1 | Evening all, I am trying to find details of an Edward Moore Wheeler dob 1916? He died 1917 and was buried 30.8.1917 in Nelson, I can see his death on BDM but no birth details. I have tried Papers Past etc but he is alluding me. I have found a photo of his burial plot, unnamed in Nelson Cemetery, Any extra eyes on this one would be appreciated, especially parents. rover48 - 2019-03-18 22:49:00 |

3 | I wonder if the child might be related to this Nelson-born Percy Moore Wheeler, who was only 44 when he died in Feb 1916? https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/TC19160216.2.59 ed65 - 2019-03-19 06:49:00 |
4 | The cemetery records state age at death of 1 year and 10 months, so born 1915. koru67 - 2019-03-19 07:23:00 |

If it turns out they're related, Percy Moore Wheeler's death notice names his widow as Ada. https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/DOM19160120.2.2 The 1914 electoral roll has Percy Moore Wheeler and Ada Mary Wheeler living at 23 Roy St in Newtown, Wellington. Percy was a clerk. OP, on the premise that Percy and Ada might (might!) be the parents of your Edward Moore Wheeler, perhaps Ada and her baby son Edward were visiting her late husband's family in Nelson when Edward passed away? Papers Past shows Percy and Ada's eldest son was named James Edward Ames Wheeler, and he got engaged in 1941. James was born in 1903, but NZBDM shows he had younger siblings Percy Ronald (b.1904), Arthur George (b.1906) and Jack (b.1911). Edward Moore Wheeler would've been born before Percy Moore Wheeler died. This mention of Percy's death in the Evening Post tells us that Ada's maiden name was Ames, but I can't find a marriage for the couple on NZBDM https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/EP19160128.2.87 Edit: Just wanted to add that if Edward Moore Wheeler does turn out to be the grandson of Capt. Wheeler from Nelson, there's a lovely photo of Capt. Wheeler in the Nelson Museum's photographic collection https://collection.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/objects/81649 There are several other Wheeler photos - possibly one is of Capt. Wheeler's youngest son Percy Moore Wheeler? Edited by ed65 at 9:49 am, Tue 19 Mar ed65 - 2019-03-19 09:37:00 |

11 | I suspect that, if the baby was sickly, parents didn't register the birth promptly then overlooked it. Have found a few instances where this seems the most plausible reason. amasser - 2019-03-19 12:05:00 |
