#Post

This is listed as my great grandfathers occupation 1914. What did that entail?

Possibly abbreviation of Tailor (out of employment) ?

Could it be a Tailor Outworker who worked at home for a shop or larger tailoring establishment.

A "tailer out" works in a sawmill, standing at the back of a saw bench pulling timber through to stop it (the tail) fouling the blade.

Note it is 'er' not 'or'

A tailer out is the job my Dad and also my Grandfather did at the sawmill. Wouldn't be allowed these days but remember going to the mill with my sister as quite small children and standing beside them as they worked.
