#Post

Looking to buy some Gluten free pastry. I have looked and asked at CD and NW but no luck. CD have it on line but not going there at this stage.
Is there anywhere else I could possibly look.

Horowhenua/Manawatu/Kapiti area.

Many thanks.

I don't buy mine but I have made this recipe quite a few times now and is quite easy and cooks well, I have copied it from another of my posts:
This is a recipe I found on the internet. I have never been much into making my own pastry but this recipe has turned out great since I started using it. And you don't need to par-pre bake it. Also it doesn't have a SOGGY bottom - Paul Hollywood would be so proud...lol. I did bacon, egg and vegetables last night, and have also done ham and egg, fish, and savoury mince. I make them in a muffin tin and get between 7 and 8 out of one recipe depending if they have "lids" or not. Also I used 2.5 tsps of Guar Gum instead of xanthan gum as it is cheaper.

Crispy gluten free pastry
120g cream cheese, cut into small pieces
70g unsalted butter, chopped
Pinch salt
1 cup GF plain flour
½ teaspoon xanthan gum

Preheat the oven to 200℃.
In a food processor pulse the cream cheese with the butter, scraping down the sides if necessary. When combined add the flour, salt and xanthan gum. Continue to pulse until the mixture comes together in a ball. Add a dessert spoon of cold water if needed.

Turn pastry out onto a piece of plastic wrap, and bring together with hands, dusting with a small amount of GF flour if the mixture is a little wet. Work into a disc, cover with the plastic wrap and chill. (The gluten free pastry doesn’t need to be rested, but it is easier to roll and shape when chilled).

When required, cut the pastry disc in half and roll between two pieces of baking paper to 0.5cm thick and using a template, cut out four pie bases. Repeat this step, to cut out the four pie ‘lids’. Place bases in pie tins and add filling of choice. Cover with pastry lids and using the back of a fork or fingers gently press the edges down to seal. Cook for 25 minutes until pastry is golden and crisp.
This recipe makes 4 small pies, double recipe to make 8.

Is it possible to make pastry that is dairy AND gluten free?

I'm sure it is, may just take some research on google. There are lots of sites there now that cater for both dairy and gluten free recipes.

New world have a gluten free flaky pastry by Pavilion for about $6.50 I bought some haven’t used it yet still in my freezer. Thought it would be nice as either a pie top or sausage rolls.

There is also a sour cream gluten free pastry pre rolled made by I love Pies company. Very easy to use and tastes good too.

You can use cauliflower to make a pastry base for pizza not sure about pies though. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds fiddly.
