As there's only the two of us I buy them a couple of times during winter as a change and a treat - just enough for a meal cost 3.99. Capricorngir

They are pretty easy to grow.

Update" Well I googled and got a similar recipe. Microwaved the Brussels (halved) for 3 mins. Put sliced onion, red and green capsicum in pan, with olive oil and added some stale cashew nuts I had. Sauteed this and then added the Brussels cut side down to sear, tossing the other ingredients in the oil for enough to coat the cashews. Result was quite tasty and a bit different. Capricorngirl

I had them roasted recently at a restaurant so I’m roasting them with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic seasoning and smoked paprika tonight - I love them but usually simply simmer for 5 minutes with butter and nutmeg

They are easy to grow and the plants keep producing for ages if they are looked after, actually they are very light so you would get an awful lot of sprouts in a kg

Our favourite way of having them is to cook till just done, blitz in food processor with a slosh of cream and salt and pepper.....

LOL. The Belgian lady who lived next door to me many years ago used to cook them, then toss with butter and nutmeg. First time I tried it, the top came off the nutmeg...

Can’t help with a recipe but do wish to comment on the outrageous price of Brussels sprouts - currently $10/kg, the same as last year. I reckon in the last 5 years or so they have doubled in price. Such as shame as they’re delicious but once waste is factored in they’re now too expensive.

'Isn't the price of brussels sprouts outrageous?', from 'I Didn't Know You Cared'. A few years ago.

Boil sprouts until tender, then drain. Fry off bacon, remove when crisp. Add some butter to the bacon pan. When frothy, add some finely chopped onion and garlic. When onion mix is clear, add sprouts and stir to coat, then stir through chopped bacon pieces and serve. Yummy!
