Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

Mr Clarke would say Fine: http://www.translatelimited.com/clarkeoz_nz_grading.pdf. I'd go somewhere between F & VF.

I've got one that "sold" a couple of weeks ago that I'll probably be relisting in a day or two ...

The perils of seeing only one side!
Yep - now I see the obverse image the rim is starting to wear into the "teeth" at the top in particular, apart from the obvious wear to the King's features. Nothing wrong with using a split grade: VG/F, with obverse first.

This 1936 florin, which the ding-dongs at Mowbray's graded as gVF

http://www.mowbrays.co.nz/auction/images/international_numis
matic/39.jpg

was sold for $420 (not to me).

This delectable looking 1940 florin

http://www.mowbrays.co.nz/auction/images/international_numis
matic/40.jpg

sold for $625 (not to me either!)

Dumbasses should have put them up on trademe, I'd have bid more for both!!!

Well, according to Toto (or was it Foreigner?), love isn't always on time. And, then, according to Nazareth, love hurts, but I gather the doctor has something to sort that out.

It's all just sunshine and lollipops around here.

useful honest advice

comment from another trader

"This is not true, I have sold many things (not always coins) to people for far more than they are worth, it all comes down to percieved value by the buyer. If people bid more than something is supposedly worth, I will gladly take their money."

I say

THis i what we are up against people admitting that they are happy to rip naive traders off, and basically be dishonest

Agreed. It's always hard to separate the wheat from the chaff, whether amongst buyers or sellers, and unfortunately all sellers get tarred with the same brush when a buyer realises they've been duped. Caveat emptor does enter the equation, but I think it's also worth saying caveat venditor as well, since eventually, either individually or collectively, we all take a hit for bad sales practices.

(Apologies if I screwed up the Latin. It's not a language I actively studied.)

Apologies, no offence intended, as there is plenty of wheat about, but more and more chaff showing up about the place.

I should mention that those two 3d's have been thru my ultrasonic cleaner, and are a lot more sparkly than the photos show! I sat them on a micro fiber cloth to protect them during the cleaning, but suspect there may have been some friction between coin and cloth, although it does not seem too noticeable.

hence forth I will use this thing-a-ma-jig to protect my coins during the cleaning process!!

With everyone looking at 1935 3ds has anyone got one with a die crack on the kings shoulder similar to this one on the 1936 3d

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/343742833.jpg

I have seen similar on the 1933 and 1934 3d's and have always assumed it could also appear on the 1935 but I do not own one with this error

Disappointing, but not a lot we can do about it, unfortunately. I believe TM is looking into some options.
