If Madam Joseph (google if unfamiliar) during her trade in the 1930 caused nice cancelled postmarks on request for payment - did she also do forged postmarks on actual mail ?

Anyone able to reply ?

Hi guys, a month or 2 ago there was a stamp fair here in Timaru, which i unfortunately missed. I am wondering if this is a regular thing? Anyone able to shed some light. Cheers.

I was one of the stand holders at the Timaru fair. it was very popular. The timaru Club intend to hold the next one in 6months time (Thats 6 months from the last one so probably in August) at the red cross hall but they will extend it from the 3 hours they did last time (9am to 12 noon) until about 3pm as lots of other folks turned up in the afternoon only to find the fair had already closed.

Her target was the philatelic market and she created hundreds of different (Mostly European) forged postmarks. Sometimes I believe items would be added to mail and then a forged postmark added.

This is what I am looking for - a postal article like an envelope that can be identified as a Madam Joseph forged postmark.on a spefic stamp.

The m.o. was as before at that time, that stamps not easily obtain in used condition was also in a way 'cto-ed'.

The practise however focussed on single stamps that were destined for collections and have yet to see such identified on an envelope.

Hi there can anyone recommend someone in Hutt or Wellington to view a book of early to late NZ and Australian stamps? I have listed one big lot already without bothering to get checked but I have one album that I would like to get an experts opinion on that I have held off on listing.

Anyone else sighted those new obnoxious multiple wavy line postmarks which Post are now using to deface stamps shot through the mail on letters ? ;-)

With all that advanced Address & Letter recognition technology onboard now, it's surprising that they havent woken up yet to the fact it could also be used to place a nice neat round cancellation on one of the corners of the stamp it sees rather than creating an abortion of an unsightly cancellation for anyone further down the track ;-)

Postmarks. Yes they are a curse. I have just posted to myself numerous envelopes bearing the v.c. stamps, three across the envelope with the right hand stamp nearly obliterated.

It looks like these NZ Post inspired multiple Curvy line obliterations are becoming a standard cancellation in many different areas -- not just in the East -- saw some out of Otago recently with the same effort

Re the new wavy line postmark - I really like this machine cancellation. Am I the only one? I like that the date is clean and readable. After a few years of frustration from blurred and unreadable machine cancellations or disgusting roller cancels, I am happy my new issue covers look fresh and clean, and the dates are readable - at last! To avoid the 'total obliteration' referred to above, the trick is to attach the stamp lower down on the cover.

I also like that its difference means it is now easier to identify used NZ stamps from mail close to their year of issue versus those that have been used anything up to 50 or so years later.

This is new Zealand post evolving and they will continue too.
Remember the obliterate and duplex cancels sometimes referred too as killer cancels in the 1800's early 1900's?(some of these cancels are worth more than the stamp and in some cases re the 5/- 1st side face can make it genuinely postally used )Then the advertising cancels? So on and so on.All of these and others are collectable today as the new ones will be tomorrow

Anyone else picked up a variation in the 09 Kiwistamp perfs - off the rolls / boxes - looking at top right corner of the stamps in the top two rows of the scan under - the third row is from booket issue -

The yellow pages and Google are your friend let your fingers do the walking.
All the Christchurch dealers are operating out of their homes as their retail premises have been destroyed by the earthquake, but they have retained their business numbers so most therefore are very approachable.

We have nine sellers including one from Dunedin. So should be a good variety of material available.

Hmmm - well the previous two posters - firstly the Auction stated " 7 Albums (not complete) but full of various stamps from around the world. " which may be deceptive and secondly to the buyer - you got into a bidding war which started from $1 start = reserve, but still continued bidding up to win the lot. No questions were asked by the buyer along the way either. So presumably you were happy to continue bidding regardless ;-)

You win some, you lose some & surely a little commonsense should prevail with a sensible question or two if in doubt / unsure ? ;-)

There really is no room to blame the seller, if in the circumstances the bidder was happy to continue bidding, knew it was $1 start & was prepared to win and no reasonable questions clarifying any doubts are asked ;-)

Hi Stamp Addicts

Have come across these pages of old used stamps. Are they worth listing or are they bin material?

hi there guys i am new to this forum/message board . I am wondering what i should do with a huge stamp collection that has been passed down to me from my nan. Many of the stamps are english and european and date back to the 1800 and 1900 war years as her father went to war as a postie for soldiers sending letters. Would my collection be worth anything? what shall i do? Thanks in advance :)

Is there any demand for empty NZ Year books ?

I would think these Year books are ideal for teachers getting their students to learn about New Zealand and even filling them with used copies.

if you cant make it to the fair ask your local bookstore about a new zealand 2013 stamp catalogue which will cost you about $12--it has every new zealand stamp priced for you--also your local bookstore may be able to point out to you a local collector who may be able to help you and discuss the various aspects of stamp collecting, and selling, etc
--the new zealand catalogues are also generally available on trademe--and please leave your comments for any more info required here

If you come along to the Christchurch Stamp fair you will be able to buy one of those stamp catalogues for only $10.
