| 4851 | Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions. No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again. chefman1 - 2014-11-05 19:41:00 |

| 4855 | All valid points - none of that detail is actually relevant unless "grandfather" happened to be a renowned collector and you're establishing a pedigree. Otherwise it's just padding - or applying a dose of male cow poo to disguise the truth. translateltd - 2014-11-05 21:54:00 |

For sellers who don't normally deal with coins, to me it just means that they don't know much about the item(s). They're saying "It is what it is", and I don't see a problem with that. Much better than people who know better trying to sell a polished turd as something more than what it is. I agree that these terms are unnecessary padding for people who sell coins regularly, and that "these were my grandfather's" points back in the direction of someone trying to add provenance or credibility where it may otherwise be lacking, or worse. echoriath - 2014-11-05 23:44:00 |

Yea it seems a bit odd that I can not find a picture of it online It does come in a case with the logos of both the Perth Mint and the Royal Australian Mint but I also could not find a mention to this particular item on those sites. mudeki - 2014-11-07 21:28:00 |
| 4889 | I've asked a bit further afield on this one - a contact in Oz has now forwarded it to someone at a sports museum who gave a presentation at a numismatic conference a few years ago, to see if she's familiar with it. translateltd - 2014-11-09 07:44:00 |

First is in MacMaster: MM1972/8. "Episcopus Aucklandensis" is Latin for Bishop of Auckland. The reverse was designed by John Cresswell, btw - some may still have his "orange book" on collecting coins produced in the 1970s. I'll check the second in a mo. | 4896 | Second looks to be the British War Medal 1914-20. Silver much more common than bronze (6.5 million vs. 110,000 issued), assuming full size (36 mm). Guessing yours is silver but just a bit tarnished? Not sure from the pic. Reference is no. 168 in Medal Yearbook 2010. translateltd - 2014-11-10 23:23:00 |
