Thanks for the cake Dilli. Yum!
Finished the quilt top today. It looks okay here but for some reason it's a bit out of shape when just hanging. I have had to pull and manipulate to get it to lie flat so will have to do lots of quilting to keep it looking good. I hate the quilting part. Don't know what went wrong - everything was measured and fitted so well during construction. I was so disappointed but I think it can be saved.

I have family staying at present and not on line much but happy to help. You might just have to try me a few times before I respond as we are out and about a bit.

morning ladies well done 25 squares for next quilt got a bit carried away. do you ever get the feeling your being used. a lady called me up yesterday afternoon said would I turn up a hem on her dress for her as the shop was going to charge her $29 and she wanted it done for free. I did it but got her to pick something up for me on her way here

That's a hard one Carole. I would happily do it for family or close friends but not just someone I knew. I might do it once because it is hard to say no. If it is reciprocated it's not so bad. Sounds like you were able to negotiate something which helped you so that is good.

I'm good Dili thank you. Had a wee break from sewing but just made this hold-all to take quilts to work when I'm sewing them. I used a handbag pattern and made the squares bigger.

Started another quilt today - this time for grandson who will be 12 in October. Doing the skateboard design from Missouri Star Quilt. Managing to use up lots of my scraps which is great.

Hi dna, is this the same sister that came over before?? How is the quilting going?? Welcome back to the thread. Someone may know about the machines I know some have Berninas, But not sure if there are other machines that do the blanket stitch.

Ok sounds great I do a lot of applique and have a Bernina 830 on of the best machines ive ever had. The 930 is good also. esp for applique work.
Hope you have a fun time with your sister, can not believe its been 3 yrs since we met. wow time does fly. Time I cam again for lunch eh.

Hi dna .... I have a janome machine which does blanket stitch. But it also has lots of fancy stitches and was quite expensive so not sure that it would meet your requirements. Mum also has a Janome which has the breast cancer logo on it which does blanket stitch. Can't find what model it is but it was well priced and I would describe it as basic and reliable.
Have finished the skateboard quilt top and today I put together another quilt for my bed. Photos tomorrow

Haven't been in since the end of January (on the page before this). I stated I was about to start on a new quilt made out of men's shirts. Well, I started with lots of cutting and sewing 9-patches and then I got distracted because Spotlight had a special offer of 10 Fat ¼s for $20 (that was 60% off) so I made this tone-on-tone neutral quilt for a friend of mine. I looooooove it! I think she will too!

Thanks all. Ffloss the squares were cut at 4½" (I used a rotary cutter and board and my coffee table is rather large so that task is carried out while watching TV) and it was all put together fairly quickly. It's the sandwiching, quilting and binding that takes the time. My shirt one has a much longer deadline of August so yes, Dilli, back to that one now . . . . unless I get distracted again, haha!

It's good to see that Carole has become a quiltmaker too. Well done Carole.

It is probably Chinese cotton which is quite thin. I wouldn't use it in a quilt that you are putting a lot of work into. It is cheap and you get what you pay for. Good luck.

dna - I agree with ffloss - that quilt I just made was washed on Sunday on a gentle setting in my machine. I always want to make quilts that the recipient doesn't have to be too precious about it. You want the quilt to be well used and able to be washed I reckon. I buy calico (when I find it in opshops) and also polarfleece blankets (also opshops) for the batting so that the quilt can easily get washed.
