I know you don't do this for the praise but doesn't it feel so good to give these away to a good cause? I know they will be greatly appreciated. Lovely work - such simple design but so effective.

I agree with Judy - franny what wonderful work. I also love the designs and colours.
Am hoping to find some inspiration for a wall hanging for a friend who was given some bad news yesterday about her health. I want to make something that will bring her joy and pleasure but nothing flowery or fluffy. I thought about flowers but it's the words I am having trouble with. Some I have found are: no beauty shines brighter than a good heart; friendship picks you up when the world lets you down; I hope you feel beautiful today or some people, like flowers, give pleasure just by being ....
I have never had a friend in this situation before so am at a bit of a loss how best to show my love and support. Any ideas?

It is very hard to know the right words to say barbrose. I had cancer some years ago and, thankfully, survived. A friend wrote the following on a card and I have never forgotten the words:

My dear friend you are in my thoughts. I wish you strength and courage and send my love to you as you deal with each new day.
Kia Kaha

Then she wrote underneath "and besides who else would I drink too much wine with and pour out my troubles to".
It was exactly right she said the right words and the light heartedness at the end took away any sadness I might have felt with the words.

Well hello strangers !!
Yes i went awol for awhile just needed a break from things..also had no computer for awhile, mine packed a crap and stopped working so i lost everything on it. Been busy doing some christmas sewing. I made a couple of table runners using quilt as you go method, its so easy to do and alot easier than trying to stuff a big quilt thru machine to quilt it. My boy is doing great and getting taller and taller. He has just turned 14 and is one inch shorter that me now !!!
I looked back over some messages and there has been some lovely work done over the past months..I see some new members too..my boy is having his usual nana nap so im off to do some sewing.
Christmas is just around the corner, where has the year gone ??
I have done my boys christmas shopping already and have all wrapped up aswell. He wants to put tree up but i said he had to wait till december .
Look at that its cuppa tea time !!

Hi franny8- I really like your first quilt. Could you please tell me what size your squares are. I have a lot of bits of fabric which would be ideal for a quilt the same as you have made. Cheers.

Up we jump again getting far to low down the line nearly of the front page.
Hope you are all having a busy time with your craft activities. Today was a lot warmer again thank goodness, we have had a few good days of it being really cold. Chicken and mash for dinna tonite come and join me. Have a great evening all.

Good morning ..... Am still in bed having coffee and toast. Feel free to join me - I can shuffle over. Just don't leave crumbs behind when you go ????
Been trying to find an idea of a fabric gift for my best friend who is also a quilter/sewer and who has tried making most things already. One year we both made each other wall hangings thinking we were doing something unique. It was funny when we exchanged gifts. At least they were not the same but it could have happened as we like the same things. I am thinking about making a fabric basket or bucket and filling it with goodies. Just need to find a good pattern now.

Oooh - forgot ...... Yesterday I made a baby quilt top using the Jenny Doan technique - no raw seams. It's great. I think I might have cut and sewn my tumblers upside down but it doesn't really matter.

Evening all. Am looking after my grandsons (just turned 11 and almost 7) this week. Actually they are really good boys - very polite and helpful. And f course they are at school during the day. I don't usually get up before 8.30am so it's a bit of a shock to the system having to be up at 7 to get them ready for school.
Today I helped a daughter make christmas bunting to hang around her walls. She got them done in about 3 hours which was good. I don't think I will get much more sewing done for me till after New Year but have plenty to keep me busy. Order for five Christmas stockings, 2 cushions for a raffle and one fabric basket for a gift. Now I just have to find the time ....

Hi ffloss, sorry just saw your post, don't seem to have much time to get on here much. The blocks were 6" squares finished (so 6½" unfinished) . Don't know if you know how to make easy half square triangles, so just in case, have a look here. You will need to cut your square 3 and 7/8 to give you a finished 3" square. This video mentioned a special tool but I just measure ¼": each side of centre line and sew down that mark. If you have a problem make another post and I will keep checking.

Oops should have said, whatever finished size you want just add 7/8. i.e. if you want 3" cut 3 and 7/8, if you want 4" cut 4 and 7/8 and so on. Hope I am making sense?

Thanks Franny8 - I make the squares like you with th line down the middle.
I have quite a few bits of batik and light fabrics so they will be ideal. Cheers.

Hi NO didnt even go to the factory outlets shops this time (I have far to much fabric) The warehouse outlets have fabric from 1.00 a metres. most are 2.00 - 2.99 metre. esp the dancing fabric like sequins etc. I have had a look at spotlighte etc over there and the fabric was the same as here. Its the fabric outlets you need to shop at.( I used to bring a pillow case fill with fabric - holds 50 metres - and the check in don't weigh ya piloows hehehehee) But I am not travelling like that anymore. too OOOOlllddd now. heheheheeee.......
