Good one Kiwimade - enjoy your day.

Carole hope the "bug" goes quickly not fun having them stick around :)
Fortunately my green house has plastic sides or they would have been broken by now with all the putting together and taking apart the sides have had, have to tackle the top today. Its a bit cold still to go and play in the garage so will do it later.

Well the socks I was going to start has turned into a baby's top as I found some other wool I had forgotten about - it's still knitting and all good.

Worsted wool ... have Googled but interested to know if I would any success using DK. Otherwise I'll have to go into Mascos in the city and ask them. :o)

Also...I see someone has mentioned "Wrap New Zealand" ... googled that as well but no luck. Am interested to hear what it's about. I have masses of smaller balls of wool.

Morning everyone.

Carole do you drink plenty? and I always keep ural in the house to help flush kidneys and bladder

Matug, theres is a group I started on fb called Lets Wrap up NZ. I belong to a couple of other knitting.yarn related groups and at the time I started the wrap group we had nearly 600 members. I thought if everyone could knit or crochet one 8 inch square, we could make blankets and donate them to places that need them. If you go there either I or Sarah will add you. We have sewer uppers at various points around the country (always looking for more sewers). Its a great way to use up bits of wool. the first blankets are going to Womans refuge. We have a vote and will do so every 3 months, and the one who gets the highest votes gets the blankets.

Have a good day Kiwimade.

Jayemtoo Id love to help with the greenhouse I love putting things together.

Hope everyone has a good day.. Im going to start getting some kitten food today.

Just had another quote for lawnmowing, $35 but I said I would do the little patch just outside the main living area - it's too much hassle for him to bring his lawnmower up the steps and I don't think it would be good enough if done with a weedeater. It only takes me a few minutes, and then he would do the rest which is the bits I find difficult.

Mr K is going to see the doctor today. I will take my knitting with me and hopefully won't make any mistakes today.

Cold again this morning but looks like being a lovely day. We will go for a walk after the doctors and enjoy the good weather while we can. It's awesome for this time of year.

Happy knitting everyone.

Helloooo--I have been busy doing things--then had a few unwell days--still managed to knit tho--the beanies are so easy to do I don't even really have to think what I'm doing--it's a cold day here--perfect for being indoors knitting--I picked up a lovely dark blue jersey yesterday to unpick--nice colour--big garment--lots of wool--I really must have a couple of days unpulling some woollies.
I try to have some sort of theme going each month when I knit the beanies--this month I'm knitting cream wool as a base colour and doing all sorts of different striped patterns--I picked up this huge cream jersey in soft cream--it will make lots of little beanies--with other colours in it.
II reckon I'll make a coffee and read back in here.
Happy knitting.

A much better quote Kuaka.... Hope all goes well at the drs.

Jarjar, a lot of people don't have the patience to undo jumpers etc. I do and get some occasionally. Not as often since I found Deramores tho lol

Did the shopping and got MrPs insulin... hes not going to be happy cos he will have to see the dr this time to get a script. Must organise that in a couple of weeks.

It will probably be 2 weeks before we get Poppy, her Human Mum is due to have her own baby, 2 days over. So everyone on tenter hooks as they say.

Doohh didn't take any pain meds before we went out this morning os suffering now. but I have my feet up and will play here then back to my sleeve.

Have a good afternoon

Lunch is done--the sun is finally shining here--put the chairs out on the porch to sit in the sun--neighbours lit their fire--they burn coal and it stinks--today the breeze is dropping the smoke into our yard--so much for sitting in the sun--happens a lot in winter--I don't even bother putting washing on the line--I really hate when you get it in stinking of smoke and have to rewash it.
Sooooooo I am back in the lounge--going to knit again--watch TV.
I quite like unpulling woollies--it can be a dusty job--so I usually do it on the porch--I've been fortunate the last few months picking up some very nice colours.

Getting colder and wetter here but I finished the greenhouse - it is not very big and quite cute with an adjustable lid, now have to think where to put it and what to grow, would like to try heritage seedlings not that I need many but BIL is keen gardner with quite a large area.

I lit the fire earlier but not much smoke and didn't burn any coal, it's a new fireplace and needed a fire in it to burn off the oils etc and it certainly did smell so had the doors open and fire going which seemed sort of odd but wanted to get rid of the smell before it gets really cold.

Now onto the needles for a while.

morning all. feeling much better today. got to take Mr T to work as his car is carputted , offer him my car but he won't drive it. we went down to 1c this morning time for a second blanket on my bed, the new heating is working well. what shall I knit next?? have plenty of wool

morning ladies :) Well done on the glasshouse jayemtoo, will be lovely to grow vegies throughout the winter, especially those a tad frost tender.

Why don't you knit for yourself carole? It seems we never do that! (or hardly ever).

Busy day today, family are coming for the weekend so we get to cuddle our wee grandy. We're having a party Saturday with friends to celebrate my 50th - MrK is organising it, I don't have to do a thing! (or so he says!) So today I will put extra blankets on beds and get housework done.

Have almost finished son's blanket, a few more rounds of the border I think. Thought I had it finished last night but looking at it this morning, it needs those extras rows. I should be able to finish it for son to take it back to his flat with him on Sunday.

Happy knitting :)

We had a third chap coming to quote on the lawns yesterday, he said he would be here at 6pm, I said to Mr K it will be dark then, and I'm not showing him round the garden in the dark - that's just plain stupid. At 6.15 I called him and told him not to bother, he needs to see it before dusk. It would be asking for trouble going up the steep rocky steps even with a torch. So he apologised but didn't say when he would come. He just might miss out on the job.

Lovely day here if you ignore the cold and the wind. At least it's sunny (not that we get any here - but the heat pump is working - just have to be prepared for a bigger than normal power bill - can't afford to be cold).

I have one more square to do then I will send a package away, and then I will get back to my blanket. I've done one strip and started the second, I figure I need to do close to 40 so it's going to take a while.

Make the most of your weekend kiwimade, I bet you notice a difference in your little grandy. Pleased you're feeling better carolev. 1 degree overnight and you've just put a second blanket on. I've slept all summer with a feather/down duvet and a polyester bed cover, now I've added a flannelette sheet doubled over (as Mr K doesn't like them) and a hot water bottle. If it gets really cold I'll throw on a crocheted blanket too. When I think about it I don't know how I survived the winters in the UK as a kid. We would wake in the morning and the condensation on the windows would be frozen and we would say that 'Jack frost has been' and we would snatch our clothes up off the floor and cuddle them under the covers for a few minutes to warm them up, then wriggle out of our pjs and get dressed under the covers. Mum had double glazing put in a few years ago so that was the end of Jack frost visiting.

Have a great day.

Morning everyone.. Finally got the silly comp working. Too cold lol

We are 13 degrees so tropical compared to others.

I will be putting another blanket on the bed later too. Ive slept all summer with a wool blanket on. Cos I have a fan on so I always cover my kidneys. I have a hospital blanket thrown on top at the mo but that needs to go to the foot of the bed for Bobcat.

Glorious day here. Washing should just about be done.

Hope you have an awesome weekend Kiwimade.

Gee Kuaka I don't blame you, does this guy think he can see in the dark.

Plodding away on my sleeve. Should get it done today tho.

Yesterday I got an email to say Id won a $100 Prezzy card. So that's awesome. Should be here next week some time. Havent decided what to do with it yet... if all else fails tho it will end up in the freezer again lol.

Have a wonderful day, take care everyone

Good morning--it's only 9 degrees here--the sun is out--still warming the day up--it got down to 1 degree overnight--and this morning I put the heat-pump on for the first time--I think it will be going overnight from now on--I have been using my hottie for a couple of weeks now--and I put a small fleecy blanket on the bottom sheet for me to get into bed on--not so cold on my body--I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia so I can't afford to be cold--I'm not so keen on electric blankets--preferring the good old hot water bottle--one for my feet and one to cuddle up to.
Kuaka--I remember doing the same as you with the clothes in the winter time--winters were so much colder when I was a littl'un--didn't have the heat-pumps etc--got the clothes warm--got dressed in bed--down to the kitchen where Ma would have the chip-heater going--and hot porridge on the stove--hot toast and milo to follow--Mum and Dad still live in the same house--it's always been a cold hole--made a bit better with 2 heat-pumps.
I am going to crochet today instead of knitting--might put a chair in the sun yet.

Just got home from our walk and then I did a big grocery shop to take advantage of the "spend $200 and get 40c a litre off fuel" and as our big old truck is very thirsty, that 40c a litre is very helpful. I couldn't get over the price of butter. $7.99 for a 500gm block. Even on special it was $4.40. I must ask my sister how much she pays in the UK, I'm sure she gets it cheaper than we do. Really bugs me when she says she buys NZ legs of lamb for 3.99 (pounds) a kg when today it's on special at $18.99. Grrrr.

Having a cup of coffee, then a late lunch, then I'll put a casserole in the oven and sit and make another square.

Happy knitting.

oohh nice win there popeye :) I rarely win anything lol. Ouchhh kuaka that is expensive, I'm sure I paid $3.99 for butter at Pak n save not long ago - it was budget brand but I don't care, butter is butter.

Crock pot is on for dinner (sausage casserole) and an apple crumble in the oven. Housework done, another dead mouse disposed off and three loads of washing hung out, dry and brought back in. Kettles on for a cuppa so I think I have earned some crochet/knitting time. The living room is lovely and toasty from all the afternoon sun, might just put my feet up for a bit.

Happy knitting :)

Ouchies Id go without the butter at that price. Is $3-99 for mainland at NW this week. I would say without a doubt your sister will be getting Our meat cheaper than we do Kuaka.
Been a glorious day.. Ive got three loads of washing in and folded. And Im cooking some tatties. I probably should never have introduced MrP into having fried mashed tatty with bacon in it lol.. This is the best time of year for our lounge. You don't mind the sun streaming in, when its 10 degrees lower than in the summer.
Just another 5 or so rows and Ive finished the increasing on the sleeve. Just about finished the 3rd ball. Then if I remember rightly its only a few rows to the length. Ill do a square tonight while coro is on.

Found out today my girl Poppy was born on March 29th... I don't have anything other happening around that time to make me remember. But Ive got a good head for dates.

Have a nice relax ladies. Ive had mine... The next hour is my busy time lol.. even tho I do manage to pop on and off here throughout that hour lol

*kuaka* can you get a disability allowance for your lawnmowing? We finally applied for one to cover the cost of our alarms. We got that covered + $790 per year for gardening/lawnmowing and some other for meds etc.
I should have got around to doing it years ago. I just never quite got around too it as we had our lawns mowed for about the last 15 years. At the beginning it was because we were both working long hours and wanted weekends free, then when we finally retired it had become too hard. We just continued to factor in the cost .
We pay $40 per fortnight and have a reasonably large section and a big corner road side verge but it is reasonably flat. We have had the same man all of that time and he does a fantastic job. He is from Greenacres and told us recently that they expect him to be making $65 per hour, which he himself said is not at all reasonable.
Not getting far with my knitting atm and seem to have hit a slump but that is o.k. I have had a really busy week one way or another.
xx

When we have stayed with my son in Adelaide we have bought lamb roasts there for $5:99 a kilo--and that was NZ lamb.
I spent the afternoon sitting in the sun crocheting--it was lovely--and I get more done if I'm not sitting looking up at the TV every couple of mins--now I'm back in front of the TV and the crocheting has slowed down--LOL.

Morning
Nice white frost here but no fog and looks like being a lovely day.
Have a great party Kiwimade, will be fun with all the family around.

Dislike lawn mowing but have only a small area so at this stage can't justify getting someone to do it as feel that is just being lazy and need the exercise, but will get someone as soon as can think of a good enough reason lol!

Jarjar I always have a straight forward piece of knitting on the needles for when watching TV, or reading the papers on line, can't read and crochet unfortunately.

Have a good day all

Morning everyone.

No frost or fog here but its black as out there.

Im impressed Daisygirl. What on earth will you do with all that? What kinds of wool?

Hope Kiwimade is having lots of cuddles with her grandie Maddy. And have an awesome party.

I did one knitted square and I think it was 7 rounds on a crochet one while watching Coro last night. I prefer no concentrate stuff at night too.

We were going to try and trim the ferns in our front garden today, have to wait for the hedge clippers from a friend tho. Don't know what happened to ours. And we will put the succulents out. They are not the ones I wanted and are all hanging over the footpath so dangerous for MrP to walk along.
So it depends on the weather and what time my friend wakes up. And she knows how to sleep in lol.

Have an awesome day.

I finished son's blanket yesterday and if I can get him to part with it for a second or two will take a pic. I need to get my dragon cross stitch finished, well at least this last bit of the border so might pick away at that today (after we have cleared away the branches from the tree our son-in-law trimmed back for MrK).

Carole knit something for yourself for a change.
Daisygirl can you tell us more about your wool habit?

Have got an old girl just about browned enough o go in the crockpot, so tea is sorted.
We will go trim the other half of the ferns.

Got the sleeve finished, Yay. one to go and the frill. I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel nearly lol.

Dull and overcast here, perfect for being out in the garden. not sunny and hot.

Have an awesome day everyone

I'm curious too about 5000 balls of wool! I'm trying to imagine how big it is, the 25 balls I got from Deramores recently was quite large (that was 100 gm balls), so I can't imagine how much room 5000 balls would take up - there's no chance I could smuggle that much into the house without Mr K noticing.

We've had some rain here this morning but it was finished before I got up. I managed to doze off in the chair last night and woke with a stiff neck so consequently wasn't tired and went to bed at the usual time, but I woke about 3.30 when I heard something nibbling in the ceiling - rats I suspect. I got up and banged a broom on the ceiling and it stopped for a while but then came back. I hope it's not making a mess in our new insulation.

I have to look for something to knit or crochet when we go for our walk as we stop and sit for a while in the park on the waterfront and I usually knit or crochet while we're there, and then it will be blanket tonight if I don't doze off.

Happy knitting everyone.

it's a Facebook group where we knit or crochet squares 8 x 8 inches out of our stash. We have a group of wonderful ladies we send them too who sew them into blankets and then donate the finished blankets to our voted charity. We are new, only started a few weeks ago and our first charity will be Women's Refuge.

We kinda feel (well I do anyway) we are turning yarn/wool that is just sitting there into something useful and needed. We also get to try out new knitted or crochet stitches too so it's a win win for all of us. Some ladies are beginner knitters/crocheters so they also get to practice a new skill, some of us having been knitting for yonks, so all levels are welcome.

Have a search on FB for us, it's a closed group. Popeye manages it so maybe she can share a link.

Well you could always do some squares for charity - Lets (or Letz as I thought it was originally) Wrap up NZ on fb. Make a few squares and send them to someone to be sewn together to make blankets for those less fortunate. I've got 14 squares ready to send - they have to be 8 inches square.

I am collecting warm woollies and other warm clothing for the homeless and woman's refuge. Reading todays Waikato Times I also think that The Methodist City Mission would welcome hand knits.
