| they ask to make what they would like, last time if was the circular skirts, and new pencil cases. they love applique work, and appliqued nearly the whole pencil case. look really lovely. think they asked to make nighties and slipper this time. and of course dolls clothing. They have all made their own placements etc. appliqued their towels, made tog bags, backpacks, book covers. I will get them to make some jam covers next time to go on the xmas jams and sweet jars. Love seeing them so pleased and proud when they have finished. dilligaf_dah - 2014-07-19 16:59:00 |

| Lovely work Barb - check out this lady's inspirational blog and all her patterns/tutorials. She's very clever. http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ Sending us all get well wishes. Winter bugs are a stinker, they lay you low and can knock you for six if you don't take care. Getting older and more susceptible just sucks! yduj - 2014-07-23 21:34:00 |
| Morning ladies. Thanks for that link Judy. Great reading. barbrose - 2014-07-25 08:15:00 |

| Hi ladies. Barb thats sounds fun and rewarding. My sum total of fabric creation this week was making a kit for a 4" doll with button legs I bought in 1996. I've carted it through 5 shifts but I can tick it off my bucket list lol! vivz2 - 2014-07-25 18:11:00 |
| http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/325786097.jpg Two of the sample pieces for the homeschooling class. I hope they won't be either too simple and boring, or too difficult. The children can embellish the tree if they want barbrose - 2014-07-26 16:18:00 |
| Is this a reliable brand of a machine? I am thinking about bidding on this machine. I am a novice sewer, I used to sew alot, like about 20-30 yrs ago. Some of it will come back to me, just want it for basic clothing for me. Maybe a few soft toys. I will get the auction no (#757507626). Its a toyota 2440 healthynz67 - 2014-07-27 15:21:00 |
| Twinkle my girlfriend had one and I seem to remember it was okay but you could do better than that for not alot more. There are a few Elnas on at the moment...the Contessa is a good wee basic machine as is the SU which also comes with pattern cams if you get adventurous. Have a look at this one 759354963 with a buy now of $69 Edited by vivz2 at 3:43 pm, Sun 27 Jul vivz2 - 2014-07-27 15:39:00 |
| I have emailed the sewing machine shop. The auckland one has second hand ones they can courier down to hamilton. I was talking to the hamilton branch. I just thought $40 thats a good price. Edited by healthynz67 at 3:57 pm, Sun 27 Jul healthynz67 - 2014-07-27 15:55:00 |
| Hi All...... Hope you have all had a few good days. I have been good and resting. but back to sewing for me. Twinkle I have a few second hand berninas and they are great. One foot control and one knee control (which I use for the littles to learn to sew on as their feet don't touch the floor) and have my daughters one still here as a back up also bernina. The Janame place in 5 x rds is good too. Talk to them otherwise the bernina shop in Hamilton is great. Also ring the bernina shop in Tauranga as he comes to Hamilton fortnightly to fix the machines and if they have one he could bring it down for you. Have a great evening all. dilligaf_dah - 2014-07-28 19:26:00 |
| Morning all, jugs hot, help yourselves. Well I spoilt myself last night and bought a jelly roll and quilt kit from Craftsy (70% off). My mission yesterday was to sort through a bag of what appeared to be scrunched up pieces of scrap fabric. Once ironed and flattened, turned out all those 'wee' pieces amounted to about five metres of fabric and some being very large bits at that. Amazing what fits in one bag aye! vivz2 - 2014-07-29 10:03:00 |
| Yip viv it is...... would youlike to come and help me sort my bags out tooooooo...hehehehee. Thanks for the cuppa Just what I needed. Hope to get back and sort some more of mine out this weekend. Have a great arvo all. dilligaf_dah - 2014-07-29 13:51:00 |
| Morning all jugs on. Nice day here today. Have been sorting out more fabric..... what a job and a half that is........... so not ready to throw most out yet. heheheeeeee keep thinking now this would be good for that. and back it goes in the stash. Oh well.......... Ill keep trying.... heheheee Need lot of coffeeeeeeee... Have a nice day all. dilligaf_dah - 2014-07-30 09:53:00 |
| Morning all. Had funny day yesterday, decided to try out my Virtuosa machine I recently purchased by doing blanket stitch applique around a cushion cover I found in the scrap bag. Got two thirds through it and somehow it did'nt look quite right......silly me! blanket stitch was reversed and the closed stitch side was on the inside. Just as well it wasn't something I was intending to keep! vivz2 - 2014-07-30 10:47:00 |
| Morning everyone. My mum had a mild heart attack on Tuesday night so I have been somewhat distracted the last few days. I did manage to do the fabric art class for 5-8 year olds yesterday afternoon though. The kids were very enthusiastic and I was very pleased to have 5 parent helpers. They got as far as choosing their fabrics and making a start on ironing the heat bond on ready for cutting. barbrose - 2014-07-31 09:14:00 |
| barb sending you and your mum some hugs and healing. Pleased the class went ok.Viv mistake are unique it makes the objects/projects come out great. Well mine do heheheeeeee come out unique I mean heheeee dilligaf_dah - 2014-07-31 22:05:00 |
| Yay morning tea, thanks Dili. Made a rag quilt last two days. Used up a bag of black themed 7" squares. Have washed it once and the scraggy edges have come up quite nicely. Next one I make I think i'll use a thinner batting though. Awesome easy quilt to make as sewn and quilted as you go. A perfect quilt for a gift. Will put up a photo later vivz2 - 2014-08-01 10:23:00 |
| Good morning. Mum is now home from hospital and seems bright and chirpy. I hope to get into some sewing today, probably some Christmas projects.i barbrose - 2014-08-03 09:22:00 |
| Morning All Pleased your mum is home now barb and chirpy. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-03 11:22:00 |
| Unfortunately Dili didn't get pic of quilt. My daughter fell in love with it and so I presented it to her as a reward for her 10kg weight loss. She also fell in love with the pohutukawa print plastic bag holder I'd just finished , so that went to. Nice to give them away tho. Barb, pleased your Mum is home now and on the road to getting better vivz2 - 2014-08-03 15:49:00 |
| that's a pity viv but pleased your daughter loved it .... Its nice when people really like what werve made eh. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-03 21:54:00 |
| MORNING ALL looks like another nice day today. More sorting me fabric. And will have to oil all the machines today too. Getting ready for some more sewing. Jugs on for drinks. and brekkie help yourself. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-05 07:35:00 |
| Hi - managed to get into sewing room for a wee while yesterday. Made a dresden circle which will eventually be a table topper. I am heading to Hamilton with friends tomorrow - going to quilt and craft fair. So excited. I am having to keep my visit reasonably quiet because I lived in Hamilton for 16 years and should be making contact with old friends. But going with others and having a specific purpose makes that difficult so I am "not telling". Wont get there until late tomorrow evening and coming home Sunday morning and want to spend as much time as possible at the fair. I will catch up with two special friends at dinner times but no time for more. I feel a little bit guilty but I would need to stay much longer to catch up with everyone. Anyone else going to the fair? barbrose - 2014-08-06 11:09:00 |
| fran is going to the fair and coming here for a cuppa afterwards. (I live not far from the grounds)..... Im passing on going this year. Hope you have a good time barb. Jugs on for drinks. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-06 14:10:00 |
| Oh I wish I lived closer to Hamilton, though as it would most likely involve great wads of money perhaps not. I have started today my first ever machine quilted whole size quilt. I've only ever hand quilted, but I sat down last night, stiched around one hexagon and decided it was high time I learned. Just stippling it but so far so good and its only for my 14 year old so she won't be too critical I hope! vivz2 - 2014-08-07 16:54:00 |
| Cool to read of another beginning machine quilter. I also used to hand quilt because I thought I couldn't machine quilt. Stippling mostly and never anything elaborate but it's all practice and gets easier the more you do. yduj - 2014-08-07 19:52:00 |
| viv that sounds fantastic pleased you are mastering the machine quilting. Oh Ive just sold a lot of my fabric today. More room for new fabric eh... heheheeee..... no I shall be very good and not replace. Need to sew what I have first, Jugs on for drinks. Have a great day all. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-08 12:48:00 |
| Jugs on for drinks will be spending tomorrow still sorting out fabrics. any volunteers????????? Have a great nite all. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-11 19:26:00 |
| Hello again - had a great time at the craft fair and managed to part with a bit of my money. Didn't buy any fabrics though - didn't find any specials. I thought the fabrics were quite pricey. But bought two new mats- one is the biggest size you can get and I only paid $65 for it instead of more than $100 so very happy with that bargain. Got a few templates too, including the flip and something (can't remember its proper name) so I am looking forward to trying some new blocks. barbrose - 2014-08-11 23:07:00 |
| Morning all. Well two thirds through quiltingt top but need to unpick some as top side looks lovely but not happy with under side. My fault for a half assed job tacking (tacking gun playing silly buggars). Will consider it a learning curve for next time. vivz2 - 2014-08-12 10:34:00 |
| Don't you hate that when all is going well till you look underneath. Hope it's not to much reverse stitching you have to do,vivz2. skippie1 - 2014-08-12 14:05:00 |
| I had to do lots of unpicking today too - twice! Hopefully have fixed the problem now ..... Same issue as you vivz2 barbrose - 2014-08-12 19:55:00 |
| Very quite in here all week Hope ya have all been busy sewing....... I will be back to sewing next week. Been spring cleaning early this year. dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-16 14:58:00 |
| Just popped in to help keep this thread going. Have planned and now cut out the fabric for two more quilts. My niece let me undo (quilters call it reverse stitching) a duvet cover made of canteen bandannas and black calico and I think there will be enough for two lap size quilts. All pieces now cut and a small amount of sewing achieved today. yduj - 2014-08-16 20:21:00 |
| MORING ALL dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-17 08:34:00 |
| Hi all. Well two sides and binding left to do on my quilt. Was getting frustrated at size of stitching but realised it was because locking stitch button on machine was on and makes for tiny stitches evry time you stop and start. Will definitely take more time with pinning for the next one but apart from two very small wrinkles, overall it's better than I deserve :) vivz2 - 2014-08-18 12:31:00 |
| Sounds like there will be a lot of happy reading for you Viv. jugs on drinks all round dilligaf_dah - 2014-08-19 14:30:00 |
| Hi Viv can we have a photo of your quilt please? ffloss - 2014-08-19 15:46:00 |
| Was meant to be sewing today bt got stuck not a book instead .... Oh well, there's another day tomorrow. Am needing to make a good start on my Christmas crafts now. Anyone else giving handmade gifts? barbrose - 2014-08-19 19:22:00 |
| Floss will put the binding on and post a pic then :) vivz2 - 2014-08-19 22:05:00 |
| http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/329390330.jpg Quilt finished yesterday....not good photo for colour but overall I'm happy with it vivz2 - 2014-08-21 08:23:00 |
