Hello all am back from dentist. 4 hours in the chair and my jaw is a bit achy but apart from that am doing well. My whole mouth was so numb for several hours. I couldn't smile or talk properly and when I tried to have a drink I dribbled most of it down my front. Must have looked funny. Made me giggle even though my facial expressions didn't change. Hopefully will feel like sewing tomorrow.

Sitting by the fire. Mum went over on her ankle on Sunday evening (when I was out) and we spent all day at A&E yesterday just for an X-ray. She couldn't get a doctor appointment and we were advised to go to the hospital instead. Lesson learned: the hospital emergency dept was full of sick people who waited until Monday morning for treatment as it was $20 cheaper than going at the weekend. We waited from 11.30 till 4pm just to have sprain confirmed and have it strapped. If it happens again (God forbid) we will press her St John alarm and go via ambulance. At least she would have had a bed even if the wait was just as long. Anyway, she has to rest and is pretty immobile so I need to stay at home to help her. Thankfully I have lots of sick leave. No sewing happening though. Hope everyone is well and creative

Should be sleeping but am wide awake. Too late to sew .... Today I started a crochet blanket using all the left over wool from the fish and chip baby jerseys that Mum and I are knitting. Quite enjoying the change in craft but beginning to feel the need to get back into sewing. My problem is I have so many quilt patterns in my head and I don't know where to start.

Have any of you ever made a vegetable bake in a slow cooker? I need to take a vege dish to family dinner tomorrow and since I will be working all day, thought it might be good to make it in the slow cooker. But I am not sure of cooking times. Have asked in recipes but no response so far.

Vege bake is layers of potato, onion, pumpkin and anything else you fancy with a cheeses white sauce in between the layers. Very yummy. I made it in the crock pot and it was ok but wouldn't bother again.
Hope you all okay now that the cold has arrived. Sitting by the fire having breakfast and not looking forward to venturing outside to go to work

For no-one in particular - I had the fabrics (often found in op shops) and it has been more practise of stippling.

Clever girl Judy - I am not brave enough to stipple a big quilt. It looks great!

barbrose - 2014-07-07 15:19:00
46833

Barb, thanks - it was a baby sized quilt and I am using this experience to get good enough to eventually have a go on one I made my son. I have a couple of others that will be used as practice ones too. I'm impatient to get going but have found that as long as the part I am stippling is a busy design the stippling is sort of hidden and went I make long or short stitches it doesn't show up!!!

yduj - 2014-07-08 15:22:00
46834

I have tried stippling little quilts like wall hangings and been reasonably happy with them despite the uneven stitches and I want to do a big quilt one day. But I find it really hard on the shoulders and arms and think I don't have the technique right. One day I would love to have my own quilting machine - dreams are free

barbrose - 2014-07-09 22:04:00
46835

Well you are all far ahead of me there I started one quilt and gave up on it. still sitting ion the corner of the sewing room somewhere. I think you are all doing extremely well making quilts and stippling. Ill stick to me dolls clothes. much smaller and easier to handle./ Jugs on for snuppa. Help yourselves. Sleep well nite all.

I definitely have to remind myself to lower my shoulders while quilting. I don't keep going too long. I also have some cotton gloves that have little rubber dots on the fingertips. A lady I work with has some called "machingers" I think they are sold from Grandmothers Garden.

yduj - 2014-07-09 23:20:00
46837

Judy - a friend of mine uses gardening gloves that have those
rubber dots on them. Much cheaper.

Happy weekend stash hoarders! I'm going to continue working on more UFOs. Keen though cos the one I'm quilting this weekend is just being quilted by doing wobbly lines across and down the quilt and I'm loving how it looks - it's easy but effective - pics up at the end of the weekend maybe.

I tried the 'machinger' on and they certainly feel good as they fit nicely and felt like part of my hand whereas my cotton ones with the rubbers fingertips and palms do tend to feel a little clumsy. All good tho. Have a great weekend.

Great quilt Judy. I have my son and his family visiting (been here since Friday) plus my mum has been unwell since last Thursday so I have hardly had time to think let alone quilt or visit the board. Mum now out of bed but still not up to getting dressed or doing anything more active than sit by the fire and read. Son still here till Friday but they have all gone out for the afternoon and dinner so am catching up with myself. No sewing till they have gone though. Freezing here today brrrrrr .... Bought myself a coffee machine yesterday (one that uses pods) so help yourselves ... Plenty for all

If the weather is fine next weekend I'll go outside and take a full picture as I also like to print out a pic for my quilt folder.

Thanks yduj, look forward to seeing it. I have just finished a snowball quilt. The blocks are large, so very much a very beginners quilt. The kit was very reasonable at Spotlight so couldn't resist, will most probably be used on the sofa that the cats have claimed as theirs to sleep on. But this also gives me the opportunity to stitch and try new patterns.

Hi Judy - I love the quilt and the way you have quilted it. I am a beginner and love doing the tops . As for the quilting I am quite nervous about starting in case I make a mistake. I like the way you have done wiggly lines.
I am almost finished a queen sized quilt made with batiks which I love. The pattern is disappearing nine patch.

ffloss - 2014-07-16 20:21:00
46850

The pattern is called "Bricks and Cobblestones" - google images shows it. Thanks ffloss, I am newish to quilting my work in something other than 'in the ditch'. The curvy lines was just straight sewing on the longest stitch and twisting and turning the quilt as it fed through the machine. Gotta remember to relax your body and keep stopping to shift the bulk of the quilt. I'm very pleased with the result.
