I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post

morning ladies :) Yep carole, some can't let things go! Enjoy your class, it's great to be out and about with like minded people.

I've knitted four squares now for Wrap NZ, only seem to find time for one a day. It amazes me how much knitting everyone gets done during the day!

Scrubbing kitchen walls today as it seems the worst of the flies is over, then some craft work. A real pea souper of fog so it's a good day to get those bigger indoor chores done.

Happy knitting :)

Can anyone tell me if selling home crocheted items on trade me is IN TRADE?

Probably is, though I'm hoping not - they said on Fair Go the other day that "hobbyists" and something else are "in trade". I work on the theory that if you sell them cheap enough that you don't actually make a profit from the items, but sell them just so you can buy more yarn, and you do it because you enjoy it, then I don't really see that IRD are missing out. If you declared it and were running your hobby as a business you would be able to claim all sorts of things like percentage of the power, insurance, rates, depreciation on your stash of yarn. They would end up owing you money most likely.
The IRD should be more concerned about the likes of Sanitarium who make millions in profit but pay no tax because they are a registered charity. I think that stinks.

That would be good. I run my own business from home and pay enough taxes with that. I only crochet at night and weekend as a hobby but love it.
If I can't sell on trade me, that means getting up early on weekends and going to fairs to sell.

Morning everyone... Overcast here and have had rain. Dark too.

My bones are complaining this morning, they could have stayed in bed I think, but Ive never been one to laze around in bed.

Im going to sort my wool this morning... I don't have a lot of room left to put it, But Im sure Ill find room somehow.
I haven't done any squares yet, I want to get my jacket done and then Ill be able to knit some. I have two arrived so far.
And wouldn't you know it , today U geta $5 voucher from Spotlight lol.. Mind you I wouldn't be able to print it out anyway lol. No ink.

Out of all the printing Ive been doing at the library and I still haven't done the mittens pattern, unless its in the wrong folder.

Have a good day everyone...

Well this morning I woke at 7.15 and thought "I'll just have five more minutes". Next time I woke it was 8.30. Nice and sunny here but a wee bit cool so I've put the heat pump on. 16 degrees in the lounge so not really really cold, just a bit cool for Mr K to sit around in.

I've started another baby blanket to pick up and put down when I don't feel like doing any of the other projects I'm working on. I've done five crocheted squares and two knitted ones and will do three more knitted ones before I send them. Have to see if anyone is sewing up both the knitted and the crocheted ones, or it will be two packages to send. Mine are all acrylic and I must admit some of it isn't very soft to touch once it's crocheted up. Bit disappointing really as it felt okay when I bought it.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning
Another beautiful blue and gold day here but with a nip in the air. Ideal for getting out and doing the lawns and garden so will do that this am so I can have the afternoon with the needles in my hands.

Chris5060 they were discussing this on Tv the other evening - think it was fair-go and they said that yes people selling as part of a hobby was also included as "in Trade" which I think is rather unfair for those who just want to cover cost of supplies, that's partly why I won't bother selling on trade me.

Took 2 big bags of knitting into the local health centre yesterday - mainly baby cardies and beanies but also a few vests and toddlers jerseys. I like to try out patterns and then not know who to give them to so the health centre benefits from these. Have been making quite a few crocheted beanies as they are quick and use up left over wool so getting through my pile of bits of wool, which annoy me as they just sit and "look" at me challenging me to find something to do with them lol. When I get enough beanies for the centre and Tonga and catch up on a few of the other UFOs I could make squares too.

Have a good day all

what stitches do you use for the squares eg 40 st to 40 rows

carolev - 2014-05-09 09:47:00
4610

I've been knitting mine as a triangle then decreasing to make a square carole. That way I can measure the 8 x 8 inches easily.

Dining walls and windows all scrubbed, pictures taken down and wiped, skirting boards and the floor done. Next to do is the kitchen. Dishes done, washing on, so now I can do the walls, cupboards and windows. Will just have a cuppa first :P

Am glad it's not just me doing one square a day, I have other crafts I work on too.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-05-09 09:56:00
4611

That's the way I do my knitted squares too kiwimade. You just have to remember to measure along the side edge from the point where you cast on to the stitches on the needle to get the 8 inches, if you measure across the stitches on the needle (like I did at first) it's not big enough, as the stitches on the needle are the diagonal. I think I increased to about 52 stitches, but it depends on the thickness of the wool and your tension. Mine was dk and 4mm needles.

kuaka - 2014-05-09 10:40:00
4612

I used to do my squares the same way. Increasing at the start of every row.

I just up at 7-30, said to MrP Ill just go stretch my back for 10 mins. Woke up 20 mins later lol... Must have just needed those few extras zzzs lol.

I will start a square tonight to do while I watch coro in bed.

Went up to post a sale and get tatties. Stopped at the oppy and got a hand full of crucci and other pattern books, 50 cents each. and a thicker hard back book. I remember mum having. The kids on the front are in red knitted pants with matching knitted waste coats. Its got a good mix of patterns in.
Have put away my shhh 28 balls of wool lol. I do not have room for any more, other than I could fit a few white balls in lol.

Cant shake my pain today so Im going to sit and knit and hope it goes away

morning ladies :) *waves back to GMS*

Kitchen and dining room all sparkly so today I will tackle the living room. Shouldn't take too long if I just get stuck in. Then this afternoon I'll have a needles(s) of some sort in my hands.

Gorgeous day here, happy knitting :)

Morning, Waves back to GMS.

I watched all of Coro lol... Knitted a square while I watched.. I got to 54 stitches. But my cast off point looks a bit squiff, but it will sew in ok.

We have the fog this morning. Havent heard a single gun shot this morning. Soo good for the ducks.

Going to do my sunday top up at the supermarket today. Cos tomorrow most of the main shopping area is shut off for the steel and Wheels thing they have. Its hot rods, classic cars etc etc. Why they have it on mothers day Ill never know, but it always is. apparently a drag car is going to start up in the middle of town. Probably hear it down here.

Went to chose a ball of wool to do my square and I couldnt decide lol so went with a ball that I have started for several other things and it always got unwound lol. Probably cos I got it to make a blanket, and it hasn't got that far lol

Have a good day all

just having a cuppa, living room half done, furniture all pulled out, pictures off walls, one leather couch cleaned and drying, half of the walls have been scrubbed (and look good too, no fly dirt!). Will vacuum this first half next then I can do the whole thing over on the other half!

Then this afternoon I can sit and bask in the cleanliness lmao :P

Have a good one, it's a stunning day out there!

Today I decided I was going to knit a sock, I only got it half done, as had too many interruptions.
I am a drop off point for blankets for the homeless and womens refuge. We are also looking for beanies and mittens and socks. Luckily today was nice and sunny as I was able to air some outside as they were a little musty.
I am off to bed now though. I have pyt the heater on and have a book to read so night night.

Morning, Happy mothers day to all the Mothers. Hope you have glorious days.
Im In Waiuku Marree if that helps.
Kiwimade good that your daughter reminds her brother, some males just don't do dates even if advertising has been on tv for a few weeks lol.

Lovely here, tad on the chilly side. I have a top on with sleeves, rolled up of course lol. But will no doubt change it once it warms up a bit. 13.9 in our lounge.

Mr grumpy went to bed early last night, So I did too and read for a good while. Im creaky again this morning tho. Wish they could do something for my stupid back. My brother reminded me as I had forgotten that they fused my sisters back after her accident too. And she never liked it. So I know four that have had it done a four that don't/didn't consider it a success.
Oh well gotta take the bad days with the good to know that when its good its really good.
Lovely lady from down the road came to see us yesterday. she got a lovely box of chocolates and insisted that I help her eat them. They are bennets chocolates fro Mangiwhai. I haven't touched them yet. They are too beautiful to eat lol I have a suspicion that she's not that fond of chocolate but has never told the family lol

Have an awesome day today.

Hiya Popeye x - way out in Waiuku (lovely place, not been there for a while and believe it's getting quite built up now if you understand). Clarks Beach I think (?) collected scallops from there (I guess those days are over?) Where do you source your knitting yarn / habby from?

Morning everyone..

Im only a couple of rows off the armholes now..phew... Have
done both fronts at the biggest part of the back on two balls. Just joined the third on. its going a long way.

Had a panic attack yesterday with those stupid planes. They totally freaked me out. Have only had two and don't like them that's for sure

Any work for you this term Kiwimade?

Have a good day all.

I'm working again on Wednesday :) Have applied for two more positions, not holding out much hope though. Looks like I may have to give up and look elsewhere for work. :(

Just having lunch then I'll get the crochet hook out.

Wow not good Kiwimade.. Hope you find something tho.

Yay Im past the armhole and finished the decreasing, not 53 more rows and the back is done, finally.

Just talked to my bestest Brother in law for his Birthday. Hes 74 today and has the grandies around for tea.
My SIL and MrP dread it when we get together in the supermarket, we are like kids in a lolly shop and go totally silly lol. But we know how to have fun. Probably the reason why when they visit she says we'll leave the boys home to talk while we are gone... shes not letting us have fun. lol

morning ladies :)

Not good carole, get well soon :)

Well I applied for four positions yesterday, let's see how many a) acknowledge my application and b) send a rejection reply. Am over it, 18 months and countless applications and nothing. I may have to try some of those employment agencies.

We have a really thick fog today, I can't see it lifting before morning tea but on the bright side, it's not cold. So after all the usual morning chores, I'll pick up my crochet hook. Only seven squares to go before I do the border and finish son's blanket. It is lovely and toasty so far!

Happy knitting :)

Fingers crossed for you Kiwimade.

Short message but Ill be back later.

Ill report back later

popeye333 - 2014-05-13 08:39:00

It's cold here this morning, no fog, but I'm over the "crying windows" already this winter. I'm on my fourth beanie of the five beanie and scarf sets I was asked for recently, have already done four scarves, and I'm now waiting for the yarn to arrive so that I can do the fifth set, meantime I've done 10 squares for the Letz wrap up NZ over on fb. I plan to make two more - I really want to do some with bobbles - and then I will send them away. Great idea Su.

Got a quote yesterday to get the lawns mowed and some gardening done. Blimey, I think I should have gone into business a few years ago doing lawn mowing. $65 to do the lawns once a fortnight, $90 for two hours of gardening once a month, and $80 to clean the outside of the windows once every 3 months. Actually I don't think the price for the window cleaning is too bad, not because it takes so long but because the height of the windows means I can't clean a lot of them, but $65 to mow the lawns seems a bit over the top. I can do them myself in less than an hour, but one can only be done with the weedeater and I can't start it, normally Mr K does that bit of the lawn or starts the weedeater so I can do it but he can't risk starting it and jarring his neck. And $45 an hour to pull a few weeds seems a bit much. I guess I'll just have to get another quote.

Off to the hospital tomorrow to see the spinal surgeon so I will have to sort out something to take with me to knit while we're waiting - as you always have to wait. Let's hope he can offer us some hope.

Get better soon carolev.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-05-13 08:46:00
4637

Well that was a flop... Only had four Boy kittens left. Thistle4 told me it would be better to get a girl kitten as Bobcat wouldn't be quite soo mean.
The only one that tweaked my "want" factor was the one My friend wants , and being a boy it wouldn't have come here anyway.

So Im putting feelers out everywhere for a girl kitten. I admit to being a little choosey cos I don't do black cats, or those black ones with ginger in them. I like bold markings.
Im sure the right one will turn up eventually. I went to the supermarket but never thought of the message board lol. So will look on Thursday.

You must have a huge lawn Kuaka... Hope the surgeon can offer some help

popeye333 - 2014-05-13 12:30:00
4638

No popeye, we have hardly any lawns at all. I reckon I can do them myself in about an hour, but I prefer to do them in two stages because the little strip alongside the driveway is a bit steep. The only piece I can't do with a lawnmower (because I can't get the mower up to it) is very small, but I can't start the weedeater, and I daren't ask Mr K in case the jarring does him any further damage.

kuaka - 2014-05-13 17:23:00
4639

OH heck Kuaka that's not good. Could you get an electric weedeater? And a very long lead. No starting troubles then. I know how hard the petrol ones can be to start. My stepfather always started the one we used in the lawn mowing round we had.

My search for a girl cat has hit a speed wobble, but Im taking that as the "right" one isn't ready for me yet.

Should finish the back of my cardy Finally tonight... Yay. Then I might crochet a square for the wrap Blankets. Then back to my cardy.

popeye333 - 2014-05-13 17:40:00
4640

We've got someone else coming to give us a quote on Thursday, but I've already decided that if it's too much, we will get an electric weedeater. I begrudge paying out good money for something I can do, especially when I think that they are asking far too much.

I am not far off bed either. My husband had a tough start to his day. At the moment I am feeding 6 extra young adult males each night so have been fairly busy and not getting much knitting done. We were lucky enough to have our son come in yesterday and fix our roof, we had a leak. He also took my car down for a WOF. It passed, in the 14 years we have had it it has never failed. It is now 19 years old.

Morning everyone..
Have an easy day Carole... Have fun Kiwimade

Yep Kuaka, MrP wasn't keen on paying someone to do our lawns either, And ours is only the size of a pocket handkerchief but $20 is heaps better than the price you were given.

I have found a kitten. Waiting for photos. The daughter of one of the girls at New World has a tabby girl. Apparently she is beautiful. Will get photos then go over to see her. Shes still a couple of weeks from being ready yet.

Finished the back YAYAYAY and crochet a square for the wrap blankets. Will do another this morning, then go back to my jacket.

Have a good day everyone.

talking about lawns we have a big lawn and pay $25 a mow so cheap off back to bed now

carolev - 2014-05-14 09:58:00
4647

Phew - I'm a bit weary. We had an early start so that we would be able to get a spot in the car park (and dropped off our recyclables at the tip on the way) and we only just got there in time and got the last spot in the car park, and then waited over an hour to see the surgeon. He's very good though, we had quite a good discussion and came away feeling much better. They are going to leave it another month and then do another CT scan and reassess him then. This basically is because of the other falls he had a few weeks back which Mr K thinks might have hindered his recovery.

Came out and found some stupid person had parked in a spot which wasn't a designated parking place and basically hemmed me in. I had terrible trouble backing out. There was a vehicle close by both sides of me and not enough space behind me to be able to back right out and swing round - Mr K had to get out and direct me, and I would say I was within a whisker of damaging the vehicles parked either side of me. If I'd been on my own I would have had to go back in and ask for the owner of the vehicle parked in the wrong place to come and move it, or I would have backed into it and damaged it with the spare wheel which is mounted on my rear door. Grrrrr.

Just had a well earned cup of tea, now I'm going to put my feet up for half an hour and knit - I finished a beanie and started a scarf and then discovered I'd knitted about 20 rows of the scarf after making a mistake which I couldn't fix so I had to unravel it all. Grrrrrr again.

Happy knitting everyone.

oh what a day Kuaka - hope the cup of tea helped to settle things down and now things are going better for you.

welcome to your new little "daughter" Popeye - looking forward to seeing the photos.

Have been trying to assemble a small greenhouse that I was given at Christmas, it says to allow 30mins to put it together - well several hours later I have the sides together but have left the roof until tomorrow. It didn't help that I had it all together then found I had 2 corners in the wrong places, the instructions are just little pictures with symbols and numbers. Hopefully it will be good to raise seedlings in when I finally get it finished.

Now to do a bit of knitting to relax for the evening - going to start another pair of socks to use up some sock wool I brought a wee while ago.
