I like spicey food and have just learned how to make a Harissa paste (chillies and cayenne pepper and other herbs and spices) so have coated the drumstick with this as well. Tummy is rumbling. barbrose - 2013-11-26 16:53:00 |

Judy, do you have any helpful hints about the bookshelf quilt? I have found some lovely ones to copy but have no idea how deep to make the shelves. Any suggestions would be great :) barbrose - 2013-11-28 19:06:00 |
Bar when I made one I did the exact measurements of a bookshelf we have, I arranged books on it and just copied the whole thing. Hope that helps :) coalrange1 - 2013-11-28 20:39:00

Good morning .... Thanks for cuppa Dili. Am still in bed-just woken up. Am on some medication which the doctor warned me could keep me awake at night so until 5 am I was watching quilt in a day sessions on YouTube. Now I am all inspired again and want to make the hole in the wall quilt. barbrose - 2013-11-29 10:29:00
ah good a cuppa thanks Dilli :) coalrange1 - 2013-11-29 11:59:00
Have decided to leave the bookshelf quilt for another time .... I don't really have much time between now and grandie's birthday and I think I will be putting too much pressure on myself. Pity as it would have used up lots of scraps. Instead I have made a start on a bright hole in the wall quilt. Three blocks made this afternoon. barbrose - 2013-11-29 22:18:00

Barbrose, I hope you do make one some day. I did the same thing as Coalie said. I had a bookshelf about the size of the quilt I wanted to make and used that as my guide. Just cut lots of strips of different width and used black calico as the dark voids. I think in the end the books and with the voids sewn to them were about 10½" long (high). Once I'd done heaps, I joined them in lots of roughly the size of a block and then moved them around on a piece of blue polar fleece I had hanging on the back of a door. http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/294730688.jpg It meant I could rearrange them and see what worked best. The fabric I have listed at present as 'brown timber look' was used as the shelves and binding. To quilt, I stitched ¼" inside all the books. Hope that makes sense and I do hope it encourages you to create one with all your scraps. Edited by yduj at 1:40 pm, Sat 30 Nov yduj - 2013-11-30 13:31:00
Thanks Judy ... I will definitely make one but will be kind to myself and not try to make it too quickly. I think it is awesome and will probably end up doing it over a longer period and give it to the grandie when she goes to university in about 6 years time. barbrose - 2013-11-30 18:41:00

Barbrose - I love your "Hole in the Wall" quilt. I have looked everywhere to see the measurements for the blocks but can't find them anywhere. Could you please tell me what you did. Cheers. ffloss - 2013-12-04 12:24:00
ffloss - the centre block is 4 1/2 in wide. I sewed 2 in strips down each side of a fat quarter length and then cut them into 4 1/2 in squares. Then completed the other two sides with 2 in strips. Then I cut two 10 in by 3in pieces and two 7in by 10 in pieces. Join the 3 in pieces with a 2 1/2 x 10 in in contrast strip and cut into two 4 1/2 in squares. With the larger 7 in pieces, join them with 10 in x 2 1/2 in strip and then cut length ways to make two long 4 1/2 x 10 in pieces. I followed an online tutorial which might make it easier for you. The tutor cut from fat quarters and layered her fabrics in groups of three so she multi cut. I didnt have quite enough to do that so I had to fussy cut. barbrose - 2013-12-04 13:08:00
Hi Barbrose - Many thanks for that. I had looked at that but her voice drove me mad so I didn't go to the end. I hope to make one with the collection of batiks that I have - one day. Thanks again. ffloss - 2013-12-04 21:29:00
