I reckon you can never have too much wool either

lmaoooo jayemtoo, my laptop doesn't like me using the letter S so I have to go back and retype. It is wonderful news about your friend carole :).

It's not yarn or knitting but I have been stitching. It's an unfinished project going back to 2007 and I am determined to get it finished for our daughter. Anyhoo, am now three quarters of the way. I picked it up again last November and have been plodding away in between knitting, crochet, family and work.

morning all happy birthday popeye, well my friend came too yesterday for a short time asked for a drink and to sit up. things are looking good hopefully she pulls back she was unconsise for 2 days . she did driffed back to being unconisise again and she only said a few words, I am praying she stays with us for longer, I started the front of jumper last night, looks nice, no fog today,

Sometimes it is better to let folks go......does she want to be brought back and if her family is no longer able to be with her who will be looking after her.? These kind of questions often arise in my mind, possibly because I have cared for too many sick and old and lonely old people. It is hard to let them go though :(

Kiwimade its looking good eh.. A fantastic family heirloom, and your daughter gets to share it with Maddy till she leaves home.

Pleased for your friend Carole. Its amazing how people can rally eh.

I cannot type Morning without having to correct the spelling... It usually ends up morning lol... Fingers go to fast for my brain I think lol.

A friend came around and gave me the biggest card in the biggest gift bag Ive ever seen. And a spotlight card... Yippeeeee. she also brought her "Game of Life" board game from when we were kids. So we went tripping down memory lane and had a game. have to admit it was fun.. I won too lol...

Then I was just making lunch and my brother called, so we yakked for an hour. So I got lunch at 2pm lol. We are learning more about each other, everytime we talk.. And its sooo neat.

Feel likes its been non stop with calls and my friend visiting. I will remember this birthday lol

I agree GMS. We all want everyone to live forever. But when its their time its hard to let go, but its better for them to let them have their big sleep and no more suffering. Neither my sister, stepfather or mother were ever going to pull through so we let them go, told them it was ok for them to go.
I wouldn't want to be kept going once Id passed my use by date. And its much kinder to let people go.

I think that is my problem too lol, I used that compresed air in a can to clean under the keys and a crumb is stuck under the S. I'm hoping if I keep pressing hard enough it will break the crumb :P

Can anyone tell me the rough price for a 50 gram merino wool... say pure merino and the price of a merino mix please... Ive never brought any before and a lady from the supermarket asked me how much a merino pair of mittens would be. she will only be paying the cost cos , shes a breast cancer Survivor and I wont charge for making them.

Well I ended up having a rubbish day (I'm being polite here!!!) the internet has been playing up for days, kept dropping off every few minutes, I've tried switching off the modem then switching it back on, I've kept restarting the computer. Nothing seemed to work. Yesterday when we went for our walk the "chorus" guy was sitting beside the "cross-connecting cabinet" in the next street so Mr K had a chat with him. He said it's most likely the filter which you need on the phone for the broadband. Have to have one on each jack point. Tick. He said they tend to blow like a fuse when there's any sort of power surge, even though they're not supposed to. He said to put new ones on. Well course I only had one spare. So I tried it, made no difference, tried putting it on the phone in the bedroom. No difference. Then I found I had no dial tone. Unplugged the modem and removed the filters, so just the phone plugged in. No dial tone. Grrrr. Spent over an hour on the cellphone to vodafone, thoroughly cheesed off 'cos it's hard to knit and hold the cellphone at the same time. Double grrrrrr. Picked up the ordinary phone, and we've got dial tone again. Plugged the modem back in, and the filters back in. Internet is working. Add to this when I sat down to watch TV there was no flipping signal.

I'm looking forward to my afternoon out tomorrow.

I have been having the same problem with the internet just dropping off every now and then. Have heard others have been having trouble too.

4563

which company are you with grant? Just left the computer alone long enough to go and make a cup of tea, come back and internet has gone "poof" again. It's back now but I had to restart the computer to get the modem to jump back to life. It's getting a bit tedious.

Time I had an early night anyway I'm thinking seeing as I didn't get much sleep last night,

kuaka - 2014-05-05 21:24:00
4564

I have my phone on speaker phone when I am making/receiving those kind of calls so I can continue to knit.
We never seem to have connection problems but we are with Telecom.
Currently Ultrafast Broadband is meant to be coming too our street so will wait and see.
I hope your friend enjoy a good quality of life for however long it is *carolev* and that she will always be treated with dignity and compassion. That is my wish for myself and everyone else.

Kuaka - I'm on Vodafone wireless - Shirley. I'm in the South Island - Waimate. Grant151 is my user name - is my sons name couldn't think of anything else when I first joined up. He helped me with it.

grant151 - 2014-05-05 21:48:00
4566

I'm with vodafone wireless too - I think they must have had some major problems today. Didn't help that I sent my son a text and asked him to phone Telecom and report the fault, and being a good son he did as I asked only to be told by Telecom that I don't have an account with them (I'm putting that down to lack of sleep), and he phoned and suggested I phone them on my cell phone, which I did, just hadn't thought of it (lack of sleep again).

Seems okay now - fingers crossed.

Night all.

morning ladies :) I hope all the internet problems are sorted today. Caught another mouse last night, The Furry One is really good at sniffing them out.

I've knitted my first square and also crocheted one. The yarn I used was a mohair-type yarn which I had bought it on a whim. Looks better knitted I think. I'll try to post pics sometime today.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-05-06 08:10:00
4569

morning all - thick pea souper here today, it's like living with the house wrapped in cotton wool. Well first thing I did when I got up was check to see if we had dial tone on the phone - tick - internet - tick. Yippee. Made a cup of tea, put the computer on, no dial tone, no internet. Went to the bathroom, came back, dial tone again and internet again. So I don't think the problem is fixed, but while it's working I'll use it.

We will go for a walk if the fog clears, and then this afternoon is "my" time, my afternoon out at mah jong. I really look forward to getting out and playing and taking my mind off things, and the ladies I play with have been really supportive throughout these last 3 months. It's probably the only time I sit for any length of time without knitting and don't feel guilty.

I'd better carry on and do a few other things on here in case I lose the connection again.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.

Oh Kuaka and Mrs Grant its horrible having net problems. We only tend to have them when the idiots dig too deep. They are doing the super fast cables here now.

Wow the furry one is keeping up with those pesky mice.

Glad your friend is brighter Carole.

I left a sarci message on my twins fb last night. Couldn't even remember to wish me a happy birthday the rat.. I don't know if he has replied yet lol.

I got a reply to an email about getting 10% discount on your birthday at spotlight.. Sadly it came in over night so no use to me now lol... They don't have my birthdate which is weird cos Im pretty sure I gave it to them. So have remedied that.
My friend gave me a $30 card so we will have a day out on Thursday and go have a wee spend.

Have a good day everyone.

Off to do my bloods again this morning and hopefully be back to monthly testing

I think technology will be the undoing of me - switched on tv to watch the news, and "no signal" - grrrr. Maybe rotten weather somewhere??? Who knows. It's taken over an hour of pressing buttons, switching off and on, fingers crossed and eventually, just after the news and weather finished, the signal came back.

Time for some trifle I think, then feet up and knit.

oh yes, Mr K had a parcel from his daughter in Australia today. She had crocheted him a lovely blanket and sent it, and also a wallet for me. I said to him that I didn't realise she could crochet and he said he didn't know either. She enclosed a note saying that his mum had taught her. It's lovely, but quite ironic that I make blankets and give them to charity and she's made one for him, not to mention the one I've just started knitting for us.

Enjoy your evening.

Hello--it's been a very busy day--I worked at The Red Cross this morning--and it was so hectic--no wool unfortunately--or woollies to unpick--plenty of everything else--I'm only just about to pick up my knitting now--gosh I miss it when I don't get to it--making slippers for my niece.
Have a good night.

Internet has been on and off all night, no dial tone on the phone. Finally got through to vodafone after waiting an hour on the cellphone (can't seem to work out how to put it on speakerphone, so plonked my sunhat on my head and tucked the phone into that to hold it against my ear! - must have looked daft but who cares). Anyway the chap on vodafone had me pulling filters out and plugging things into the jackpoint, trying to find the fault, disconnect the modem etc no internet, no dial tone. Give up, logged it for a techo to sort out. Half an hour later, I've got internet again, then my sister phones from the UK. She said she had phoned several times, and the phone was engaged each time. Weird. I now have a very crackly dial tone.

If I'm absent for a while, you'll all know my connection is down, and I'll be knitting instead of wasting time on the mb.

Happy knitting - I'm off to bed. Night all.

Kuaka do you have sky tv and is it plugged into a phone socket. I had the same problems a couple of years ago replaced modem and filters and it still was doing same. Found the problem was no-one had noticed sky was plugged into an unknown phone socket filter on that and no more problems like that.

morning ladies :) ohh buggar kuaka, what a pain in the proverbial. Hopefully Vodaphone can sort it.

I had to visit Vodaphone yesterday as my new mobile wouldn't send photos via text. A couple of minutes later they had it sorted. Must admit, I can see how people can be joined at the hip with these smart phones.

Foggy here, a real pea souper but not cold. Still in summery(ish) clothes! Need to weed the garden and mow lawns - almost like spring with the lawns and clean the kitchen wall. The flies have just been awful! But I suspect I'll knit, crochet or stitch lol.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-05-07 08:18:00
4579

morning ladies, well this morning I have internet at the moment (fingers crossed) but no phone. No we don't have sky. It's enough to drive a person bonkers.

Off to knit and natter this morning - hope the fog clears before then. It's not overly cold but I put the heat pump on anyway - Mr K really feels the cold these days and I'm not having him sitting freezing to death for the sake of a few dollars (even if the money would be better spent on wool - lol).

My gardens need weeding and the lawns need mowing. I did the little lawn last week and it was so long I had to cut it on 3 and a few days later I did it again with the blades set on 2, normally I do it on 1. It needs doing again, but I'm waiting for it to dry out a bit. Our plum trees need pruning, one of them had blossom on the other day! Down in the town I see the little spring bulbs are in flower - not sure what they're called, paperwhites or earlicheer or something. Not daffs anyway. Think it's a bit early for them isn't it?

Right, get a into g.

Happy knititng everyone.

Morning everyone, No fog here. it might be up the heads tho.

The boys did our lawns on Monday they got heaps off it.

What a pain re the internet phone and tv Kuaka. MrP would have been ballistic by now. He hates it when things don't work. Ours usually only goes down if the fools dig the cables.

Awesome re MrKs daughter sending him a blanket eh

Im going to sit and knit today, a lot of running around yesterday. Im only to the armhole on the second front.

Do you find it impossible to sit and watch tv without having something in your hands? I cant stand it lol.

Off to spotlight tomorrow, Yay... see what damage I can do with merino lol

They have some jonquils in a pot at NW here, way early. Our bulbs are coming up tho. Just no t cold enough here lol

Have a good day everyone

Morning all
Not sure which way the day is going weather-wise here - meant to be sunny but I can't see it! Have put out the clothes so being hopeful.
Hope you get internet sorted soon Kuaka.
Isn't real wool lovely these days Popeye - nothing like the scratchy stuff we had as children and there seems to be a lot less people who react to the new wool also.

I have jonquils in the garden but they seem to be an earlyish variety but it always make me think winter is over although it hasn't even started here yet. Still in summer clothes as over 20 most days still. the nights are getting colder but it gets dark far too soon - was dark at 5.30 yesterday which really makes me feel a bit down, I'm definately not a winter person.

Happy knitting

jayemtoo - 2014-05-07 10:39:00
4582

Im a winter person.. My birthday was a dull dark day, and raining when I went to get tea. Felt good lol

I surprised MrP today. Ive been hunting down his sisters phone number. they hadn't spoken for about 12 years. So I didn't tell him id been looking for her number, but Found it, dialled it and passed it to him. I said here wish your sister happy birthday (shes 70 today).. So he got a surprise and so did she. Shes doing well considering she has had emphysema for years.
The kids are doing a big party for her, although she had to make her Most popular food.. cream horns lol.. A Part aint a party without them.

So I have a happy chappy now. Hes had the works, haircut, toenails and feet sanded too. Spoilt dude eh.

So Ill get to my needles later

popeye333 - 2014-05-07 12:31:00
4583

internet is working but no phone. Not sure how that works. Chap from Chorus phoned this morning and he was a bit puzzled about it too, fingers crossed it's not my phones which have died, although I doubt very much that the two cordless ones and the ordinary one would all die at the same time - unless it was a murder-suicide pact!!!

kuaka - 2014-05-07 13:53:00
4584

Yay re the internet.. Fingers crossed there hasn't be a murder-suicide. I hate it when phones die. I like my contact with the outside world.. keeps me sane lol.
Have 11 rows to do on the front and that's finished yay. Will do the back next since its the biggest bit. Have only just used a bit over one ball.. its going a long way.
Whats on your needles at the mo Kuaka? other than the blanket

popeye333 - 2014-05-07 15:54:00
4585

oh popeye, you mean apart from the slippers I started for me about six weeks ago and the scarf I started about 4 months ago before deciding I don't really like the yarn, and can't decide whether to carry on and finish it, or unpick it and sell the yarn. Hmmm, well I've knitted two squares for the Lets wrap up NZ and have crocheted three, and seeing as his nibbs doesn't know I'm tackling the blankie, I'm only doing that at night after he's gone nite nites. Not that he would have a problem with it, he would just think I'm nuts for tackling something so big.

I've just given the bedroom a fright and done some cleaning in there, so am about to put my feet up and have to decide whether to have a cup of tea or crack open a bottle of red. Decisions, decisions.

kuaka - 2014-05-07 16:03:00
4586

Tough decision, I vote for the Wine.. and have a glass for me lol.

I used to be able to sneak things in and do things for MrP that he didn't know about. A blanket would be hard to hide. Although once he is in bed its rare for him to come see what Im doing.

Ive just had an idea too.. Since I don't like knitting this chunky and bulky yarn I have. Ill enquire of face book if anyone wants to swap jobs.. I could knit a toy or crochet a thinner blanket for them if they do my thick wool. I do so like it, but not working with it.. Hmmmmm

Will ponder over that.

MrP is watching Matlock and Don Knox is on it too, only need the boy ( Hobey?) and gouber and it would be Andy Griffith show lol

popeye333 - 2014-05-07 16:22:00
4587

Helloooooooo--it was another busy morning at the Red Cross (or Harrods as I call it)--I am constantly amazed at the amount and quality of the goods that come in--son and I manned it this morning--it was a constant flow of donations--sorting--pricing--i-
nto the shop--I got a couple of shirts for other son--2 woollies to unpick--and a couple of oven dishes--was so tired and sore when I got home I had a nanny nap this afternoon--I'll do tea shortly then settle down to knit.
Tomorrow I don't have to go anywhere or do anything--and I plan to knit--crochet--and knit some more.
I am a winter person too--there's something rather cosy about a cold day out--and I'm snug inside with my knitting--TV going--cos I have to have something to do while I'm TV watching--hot cup of tea.
Better go and get Mr Binks his tea.

jarjarbinks01 - 2014-05-07 17:23:00
4588

I vote the wine too!

I've knitted three squares for the wrap NZ group :), plain knitting as the yarn is mohair-type and hideous to knit. I've also crocheted three squares for son's blanket and cross stitched a bit more. So a varied day craft wise.

Great to see you in our thread jarjar :)

happy knitting!

kiwimade64 - 2014-05-07 20:42:00
4589

Well I looked at the kettle and I looked at the lonely bottle of red sitting on the bench and decided it wasn't fair to leave it there all alone and unloved, especially seeing as a friend gave it to me today at knit and natter for doing a little jewellery repair job for her recently (I told her I was quite happy to do it and didn't want anything for it but she slipped the bottle in my bag and said no arguments as she appreciated what I'd done) so I had a glass for me and another one for my friends. Very good it was too.

Now I'm going to knit some of my blanket - think it will take me a while, haven't done the first strip yet.

Internet is still working, phone still isn't. Is that weird or what?

Night all.

Morning everyone...

Well done Kuaka.. Ive learnt over many years to accept what is given, in payment for doing friends a favour. Its taken a long time tho. I like helping people.
Take care Carole. Im naughty Im not testing. But my HBA1c has been fine.

It is weird how some things take longer than others in the knitting. I started the back last night, Our fave night on Tv. Discovery channel is the best on a Wednesday night.

Off to Manukau today and spotlight. And had an email this morning, 30% off bella Baby and four seasons yarn. Don't know what the four seasons one is. Ive put mrPs walker in the car, so he has a seat to rest on while I browse. He normally gets away with just using the cart.
Have promised him Maccas for lunch. We haven't had it in the 10 yrs we have been here. Or he hasn't I should say, I don't eat burgers (only my own made).
Ive taken pain meds as a preventer lol. Might stop at oppies if its not too wet.

Have an awesome day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-05-08 08:32:00
4593

Phew - the phone is back on - the same chap we spoke to down the road the other day has been and fixed it. The connections in the main junction box which is attached to the deck behind the house had rusted away and it was arcing or "hard short circuiting" he said. What a relief.

I've been up for hours, couldn't sleep, but have I done anything - no. Have had my breakfast (just about ready for another one) and did the dishes and a few rows of knitting. I've now done 10 complete zig-zags on the blanket and used less than 40gm of yarn so I think I should have enough to make it the size I want it, but it's going to take me a while. Probably have it done in time for next summer.

Going for a walk later if the rain holds off, then might try to do some more of that dreaded housework.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-05-08 09:09:00
4594

Yay Kuaka nice to have everything up and running again.. What a relief.

I had a ball in spotlight, a lot of what I wanted was 30% off to very pleased. Got just on $150 worth for $89, once the discount was taken off then the gift card my friend gave me. MrP even chose some of the colours. And he behaved, didn't get grumpy till we pulled up at home.

Went back and posted a sale and some patterns. And got some more printed off.. Im all done for printing off patterns for now.. Hopefully lol. Lady in the library was stoked when I took some patterns for hotwater bottle covers to knit. She copied all three I had, so hopefully the one who wants to knit them is pleased.
My back is complaining but Ive had a nice day. So Im going to play on here a wee while before I think about tea

Warm here too, although I have just turned the fan off..

Did you go to Spotlight Carole? the amount to chose from Manukau has Improved, and I took my time today too.

Now I just have to find room for it all lol

popeye333 - 2014-05-08 15:51:00
4598

It was warm here earlier but the temp has dropped, think I'll put the heat pump on shortly as my feet are like ice (that's quite normal for me though).

Yes, it is nice to have a phone again but since then the printer spat the dummy. I tried to print something and kept getting this stupid "E2" error message - why can't it just say "put some paper in me please and I will work" - so I did a little chuckle and said "thank you - at least you haven't died".

I'm leaving my shopping till the weekend, don't desperately need anything.

My wool still hasn't arrived from Skeinz - think NZ Post must be on a go slow at the moment, it's getting pathetic or should I say even more pathetic than it usually is. So I will just carry on with what I'm doing 'cos I can't start the new project till the new wool arrives.

Kuaka Please let the ladies know your wool not arrived. They are have problems with couriers and are asking for feedback on deliveries.in their thread on Ravelry
We have a small business and have had the same problems with couriers about the time on deliveries. Three days from Napier to Hastings.
Hope its.arrives for you in the morning so you have it for the w/end.
I am lucky I can just pop in to the store when I need wool or look at their specials Yes! I get the rolling of eyes from DH when I walk out with a skein or two.
