THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
4551

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

Looking at the other diagnostics (2014 Bertrand, p. 16), the right-hand vertical of the U seems to point to a dot rather than slightly to the right, and the dots look squared off. Thicker rim, narrow gap between letters and dots ... all point to a "with strap" type. Added to the fact that it looks like there is a strap on the shoulder still ...

It's a rare version that was struck upside down, hence the price. It's a 6/2 from 0491.

this joker must be working on the same principle as monkeys typing the complete works of Shakespeare. If he waits long enough, keeps relisting it, eventually, someone will buy it for a silly price. But I suspect he'll have to wait a long time ~ 50,000 years at least!

Suspect that's a given. If it was a brockage, the other side would have the royal effigy the right way round, and no date.

I could be wrong Peter but I thought all florins from 1947 on did have a flat back.

Hi Martin I have an unusual large medalet I can not find anywhere
Te Kaha Sportfishing Club Inc. Fairly large at 60mm across and 4mm thick.
Any ideas of scarcity value etc.

Looks like a prize medal - no idea really but you could contact the club to see how many were issued, when they were made, etc.:

A nicer Pub and better fishing is further round the Coast at Waihau Bay.

While we're on the subject of boating and fishing, one I haven't managed to track (or even find a date for) is the medal referenced W/2 in the new "MacMaster II" - the Waikawa Boating Club Inc. 50th Anniversary. Even dear old Mr Google wasn't much help last time I looked. Any bells ring for anyone?

They do indeed, My fishing mate and I received our $2 coin back from the manager of hotel for remaining unbeaten at pool in the public bar for 6 hrs until closing. Everybody tried to topple the jaffas but failed. Believe it was the best turnover that table had had in about 7 years.
