I think you need a new trolley Dilli...things always seem to drop in the one you've got...surely it is faulty?
I hid in my shed again this morning and did a page on my altered book. Muttley told me how far ahead we were so I went inside only to find time had run out! Another stressful day tomorrow. At least I should get some stuff done though! Have mowed the lawns this morning and it feels good to have beaten the rain. What have the rest of you been up to?

oooh Jumbo an altered book, I started a board sortof book the other day and have done a few pages but have an old book next to it waiting to be altered. Tis fun :)
It was stressful watching the race and knowing they were running out of time, I think maybe I may hide while its on tomorrow ;)

Hello everyone .... Finally on line .... Been gardening and meeting with friends today and have a grandie staying overnight so no computer time for me today. Just popped in to say hello. Want to do some button craft with grandie before she goes home in the morning ... Was too tired to do it tonight. Haven't been near the sewing machine for nearly a week but hopefully will get a chance tomorrow afternoon. One older grandie has asked for some scrunchies .... She is 14 so I think I will teach her how to make her own ....... If only I could remember how. I am sure it will all come back to me once I start.

Help Please. I am going well with my classes - have just finished my 6th 12 inch block. The class sample is for 9 blocks - 3 by 3 but we can do more if we want. Trouble is I'm not sure where I will put the quilt so not sure of size to make. 3 by 3 looks a bit small so would I be better to do 4 by 3 or even 4 by 4? Both my daughters are studying away from home, with the older one finishing at the end of the year. She is hoping to head to Aus so I will have her room free to put it in. Being my first I don't really want to give it away. Any ideas? Other thing is I have to have the blocks completed by 3 weeks time. I work 4 nightshifts a week so only really have Sundays to do any. Not sure if I could do 10 in 3 weeks. Thanks

juju40 - 2013-09-22 18:54:00
45619

Hi Juju, as time is going to be tight I would just do the blocks for the class and put a wide border on the quilt. The border can use the same fabrics as are in the blocks or plain. Or you could join the blocks, add a small border and hang it on the wall.

coalrange1 - 2013-09-22 19:39:00
45620

Thanks coalrange1. Wasn't sure if with a border it would fit a single bed though. Hanging on the wall could be worth a go, although might be too big for that. Decisions, decisions.

juju40 - 2013-09-22 20:05:00
45621

Why not use it as a tablecloth? They wash really well and if you just used it decoratively you wouldn't have to wash it too often. You could put sashing between the blocks to stretch it out a bit...and it would also showcase each block.
I have worked on my altered book today. Gosh it is slow going! Good fun though. What has everyone else been up to?
Hands up if you think tomorrow will be the day we win the cup...
See you in the morning...

Good morning. Breakfast will be up in a mo...help yourselves. Guess what? Last night was the first time this year that the door was left open all night. I slept so well with the fresh air. Mmmmmmm...long may it last.
I have heard that there might be a whale on the course today to stop racing. Whatever next?!
Have a great day...

jumbobon - 2013-09-23 06:41:00
45625

Good morning. Do you need a hand with breakfast Jumbo?
Not going to watch the racing ... I will just catch up with it later.
Might have to take my machine in for servicing .... Started quilting a Christmas quilt yesterday and I noticed that a lot of the stitches were skipping and I spent quite a bt of time unpicking. I was able to do ordinary sewing though so prepared all the binding for three quilts plus made a start on another crumb. Not sure why it would skip.... Any suggestions?

45628

Healing thoughts headed your way carolev.
Dilli I did think about the needle yesterday but I had only just changed it so decided it wasnt the problem. Ha ha ... took it in for servicing this morning and the first thing I was asked was "did you try changing the needle?" It needs a service anyway - its done so much work over the last few months. Poor thing is tired.

45629

Goodmorning :)
hugs for you Carole, thoughts are with you all.
Jumbo ....question ... do you use glaze in your book ?

coalrange1 - 2013-09-23 11:51:00
45630

Oh no Carole...fairy good wishes heading your way.

No coalie. I gesso over some of the pages and finger paint on others. Today I am going to try ink splats and have them running over the pages. I can still see the text on some pages when they are painted but I just go ahead and use the page anyway. I don't even know what glaze is! What do you use it for?

jumbobon - 2013-09-23 12:20:00
45631

Jumbo do you have this book ?
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OaaF70PjslA/TjevOw7VSPI/AAAAAAAACK
Q/T_rSr0A81_I/s1600/altered%2Bbooks.jpg

you use the glaze in layers which dries really fast so easy to layer it up. it comes in colours or not and you can mix acrylic paint with it if its not already coloured. It is see through but depends how thick and how many layers....
scanned a pic, it shows how the page has more depth using the glaze ...

Just got a txt from the Janome shop to say my machine was ready for collection. He must have noticed the anxious twitching start as I walked out the door without it this morning. He said the biggest problem was the thread I was using - it was un-named but he called it rubblish and showed me the difference in the stitches using that thread and a good quality thread. I had wondered about that - how can you tell what is good and what isn't? I find once I remove the outer cellophane and the little top bit (where the hole is), there is no identifying marks on the reel. Maybe there is on the good quality stuff??

barbrose - 2013-09-23 15:19:00
45633

Oh...yes...I have used it once mixed with paint! And I have some in the shed right now...so I do know what it is. Duh me... Are you using it on your book? Mine is taking a long long time to finish each page...like days. Is yours?
Bar I don't get the thread either. I use whatever I have...and some of it is quite old.

jumbobon - 2013-09-23 15:55:00
45634

Bar I use any thread too, have used good thread on a couple of quilts but was so expensive :(
Nope Jumbo haven't used the glaze I don't have any but may get some. Yes the pages take forever ! tis quite incredible how long each one takes and coming up with the ideas whew ! Tonight im going to blob and rip out pages in the real book so it will be ready to start when ive finished this one.
How did the ink splats go ?

coalrange1 - 2013-09-23 17:38:00
45635

Haven't done them yet coalie. I ended up putting more coats of paint on some cats I had drawn in the book...and I had visitors as well. I'm going back to the op shop to work every Tuesday morning starting from tomorrow but I will do some tomorrow afternoon.

jumbobon - 2013-09-23 21:31:00

Where is everyone? It is too too quiet...are you all sheltering from the storm? I only spent $2 at the op shop today. Two books to alter and a small book to cut up...the pictures are delicious of cherubs and flowers and old fashioned romance. The cats are unhappy tonight. They don't like the rain...especially Brooke who hides and has big wide frightened eyes.
I did some more work on a page in my altered book and might even finish that one tonight. Any photos of your one coalie?

Breakfast is ready...toast with cottage cheese, cereal and yoghurt and tea and coffee galore. Come on in and help yourself.
