Muzza you are nearly right with no #2 but you have the date wrong.

Full points however for #1. The 1938 Airmail Society Postmark with wings on the circle is the first ever pictorial one. Award yourself a chocolate biscuit for that one!

2.What town/city in New Zealand was the first to celebrate its centennial with a special postmark?

Spot on. You are too clever to be fooled by a simple question like that. You have won yourself an orange juice.

Okay so nobody knows of any NZ Post stamp to feature Whangarei? There is a 1999 Art deco building from Hastings so perhaps Whangarei is the largest place (only city?) never To have appeared on a New Zealand post stamp. We aren't talking about alternative company stamps as many of these have featured Whangarei and especially the yachting basin.

lets give it another day and see if anyone can come up with a NZ Post stamp which shows Whangarei. Nobody has yet answered which NZ stamp is the first to show a duchess?

Is #5 1937? The photo of the royal couple would have been taken prior to the coronation so Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) would still have been Duchess of York

How about TIKI TOUR 2009 issue-middle stamp top row- names Whangarei- does that count,or does it need to be picture and also TIKI TOUR 2 2012

I think if a name on a tiki tour is all we can come up with then we can crown Whangarei as the least featured city on New Zealand post stamps.

It must be a boring place with no redeeming or interesting aspects to be so ignored by NZ Post. I wonder what the Whangarei City council and PR department think of this newly discovered fame?

It seems that nobody knows their New Zealand stamps well enough to tell me which one was the first to feature a duchess. If there are no answers before then i'll reveal the answer on Tuesday.

Okay to put everyone out of their misery here is the Duchess answer. the first Duchess to appear on a New Zealand Postage stamp appeared on the Ist January 1901 on the Id universal Postage stamp issued to celebrate the introduction of 1d postage on the first day of the century. The "Duchess" was the name of the Steam Harbour ferry built in the 1890's and at first operated on the Waitemata and then later in Wellington Harbour. The ship is shown prominently and directly behind "Zealandia" on the stamp.

Is it not high time that TM makes buyers also compliant to provide their postal address.

The TM option for a Seller to provide his payment or shipping makes things run smoothly.

Some Buyers are keen to make the payment on provided detail via TM but neglect to provide their postal address.

Some email reminders are even ignored or not received.
Addresses stored can get lost on a PC and a request is simple confirmation.

Were it compulsary to supply a postal address (even when transacted by hand) a lot of time could be spent elsewhere.

Surely other Sellers have had similar problems and such an additional feature can only enhance communication.

praps Trade Me should make it mandatory that buyers also advise Sellers when they have paid & the date they paid too ? ;-)

It was a very carefully worded quizz question with no mention of Royalty so those people who went down that track misled themselves. don't you love those questions which are so simple after you hear the answer!

Advising the seller of payment instills surety of intention which is helpful. A misappropriation of a payment advice can be embarrassing to the buyer.
That is why the norm delivery after payment should apply and the seller is tasked with payment confirmation which is shoddy at best on Bank accounts, though not necessarily their doing nor a TM task.

As said, providing a mandatory Buyer's address by TM could save a lot of time.

I have mentioned this to the trademe people several times. Its on the top of my agenda always and seems a no brainer to me. After all its only the postal address and its going to have to be given anyway so why not have it done automatically. It would save me heaps of time every week!

Yes indeed Steven, I too have nudged TM several times with this problem.

Perhaps a suitable disclaimer prompt in the payment instructions may help. Will give it some thought as to the legal aspect.

It must be the first Saturday in the month then. I'd better get my skates on and be there as i don't want to miss any bargains. I picked up a great New Zealand collection last time and saw an Australian one which somebody had bought at such a low price i nearly offered the person twice the amount he had paid for it.Its amazing sometimes what bargains can be had.

Anyone at Mowbrays auction today? A lot of people were there. Not many NZ collection stamps were sold. There seems to be interest in the African states. A lot of interesting bidding.

The best I saw was the NZ post cards. It gone way above the estimated price.
