Carole the link doesn't work can you do it again.
Grizz are you relaxing when you sew, are your shoulders relaxed and your hands ? I find if im not it shows in the stippling.

Remember how we used to practise writing letters in the air when we were learning to write? Well, it helps me to draw the shapes I want to stipple on the fabric with my finger before I begin the stitching...it might help. Also try to remember that the needle is the pencil and the fabric is the paper...so it's a bit arsyboo to writing. And what coalie said too! I'd better cook tea soon I think. What is everyone having? We are having good old snags.

So thats how many extra aunties I now have LOL??? Thanks Coalie, Jumbo and Holly... sure is nice to have others to share the fun with! I made my Aunty Jean cry! The look on her face was priceless... I let her have a good look at the quilt first, front and back then showed her the label... she started to read it out loud, her mouth fell open then she had a wee bubble! It was so special! Shes in her eighties, not been well... probably lucky the shock wasn't too much for her LOL!

Oh Holly size doesn't come in to it... LOVE your bargello! Love your colours! Man look at the skinny wee cuts to get the points! And all the matching of rows too! Go you!

ROFL @ Grizz... sounds familiar... yep been there, got that badge LOL... how can it look so easy and not be eh??? Have you got something to give you some grip of your fabric? Like the non slip stuff used to line cupboards or to open jars... one for each hand. Sit up higher too, I found that helped my shoulders and arms. Have fun... just don't expect progress too soon hehe :-)

Muttley purring haha yeah right Jumbo, chainsaws don't snore hahaha hmm must be love .... ;)
Call the midwife was good yet again, in the adverts time I got the quilt top ironed and the backing cut but have to sew 2 pieces together to fit.

45118

Oh you girls have done some stunning work. Love both quilts on display .... That's what I love about this thread - getting to see all the creativity and being freshly inspired, as well as your lovely and stimulating company as well :)
I spent quite a few dollars at Spotlight and came home with at least 10 new pieces of fabric. I really cannot resist Christmas fabrics ....there were more I would have liked but I had to have a stern word with myself as I will have to live till I am 150 just to use up the fabrics I already have.
Did a bit more work on the fantasy quilt and then made another cat quilt for the arm chair using crumbs. Sewing crumbs is so addictive!
Hope you all had a good day. Am back to work tomorrow.....busy day ahead of me plus a meeting that won't finish till 7, so no sewing tomorrow.

I originally posted in this thread a couple of years ago when I wanted advice about starting patchworking. I managed to buy some rulers, a cutter and a mat but thats as far as I got. Well finally I signed up to a beginners class last week and can proudly say I have completed my first block - https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/q71/1

Well done juju! Just look at that perfect matching and perfect points! It's going to be an awesome quilt. I love the colours...

45129

Wahoo juju, congrats on a beautiful first block! Yes I agree with Jumbo, look at your perfect matching and perfect points!!! Hey I'm just a beginner too... only started last year! So are you doing a sampler of different blocks or more of the same?... judging by your first, either way its going to be awesome and I can't wait to see more! So are you hooked now LOL?

lviolets - 2013-08-26 16:48:00
45130

Hells bells Coalie how do you manage to tape your quilt to the floor??? Even if I had the floor space it wouldn't be a happening thing would it Grizz LOL! I have a folding trestle table on blocks... saves the bones ;-) So when do we get to see??? No pressure... well not much hehe!

Go Jumbo... excellent news, feels better having some control eh? I'm due for the same test next week... I'm already pre stage and expecting the worst coz of meds. Already told Doc I don't want to know until after I'm back from my holiday! Did donkeyplonks enjoy their pedicure?

Shortbread Grizz? homemade? I LOVE homemade shortbread hint hint ;-) Haha knew you'd get landed with another sewing job after the little back pack... just knew it LOL!

Go Dilli... making room for more fabric... am most impressed!

and makes you wonder...what else has Coaly got taped to the floor???

grizzvk - 2013-08-26 17:06:00
45132

The sampler is 9 different blocks. The next one is the Paddle wheel. I am hooked :) I always said that I wanted to try it once my daughters were at Uni - the youngest is in her first year at Waikato. She has already put her order in for a quilt. Only problem I'm having is my machine (Globe Cub 7) is so old, 30 odd years, that it hasn't got a 1/4 inch foot. I've tried the masking tape method of marking it but the feeder is in the way so isn't that easy to get right. With the first block I took to marking with a pencil but thats quite time consuming.

Juju like everyone said, its perfect wow good on you. I made a couple like that once, they were far from perfect so im not one of the experts you speak of in here haha there sure do seem to be some tho going by the amazing quilts we are seeing lately :)
Haha Vi yes taped to the floor, daughter #1 was here while I was doing it and she commented that people pay to go to the gym for exercises like I was doing haha. Isnt it hard doing it on a table tho do you have to tape some pin it and then repeat ?

Hi juju - my sewing machine is 42yrs old- Bernina and everyone tells me not to get rid of it as they don't make them like that these days. I was able to get a 1/4inch foot for my machine recently from Tauranga Bernina. I can't find their phone number which is an 0500 number. Look it up on the web - that is where I found it and they are very helpful and friendly people.
I am also a beginner and I am hooked. Love your block and I like those sampler quilts. Good luck.

ffloss - 2013-08-26 20:58:00

there are 1/4" feet in here too, the big trader ones you can just ask them if it will fit your machine.
