Morning everyone. Sunny and very still here. Im surprised its not foggy lol.

What did you make her Carole? or cant you say until she has it, incase she reads the boards.

Finally finished the nightie, It took way longer than it should have lol. Well I haven't sewn it up yet lol. That throroughbred wool looks nice knitted but can sometimes be hard on the hands to knit.
Started a rich green jumpsuit last night. If it turns out ok Ill make another and put full length sleeves on it, but make it as a onesie pj's lol.

Have to nip up the road this morning. Will take MrP for a ride. First time we have been out since Thursday.

Have an awesome day everyone.

morning :) We have a couple of sofas to pick up today for son's flat so hopefully the rain will hold off until then. Other than that, I'll be pottering about.

Three more wee squares done for son's blanket, it's starting to look good now I think :)

Happy knitting :)

I made her 6 cushions for her dinning chairs, table cloth, 6 place mats. pot holder , pot mites. peg bag, plactic bag holder. and bought her heaps of pegs , all in a blue with black fans on it fabric . she was very pleased.

Sounds awesome Carole.. Glad she loved them. A lot of work gone into that. My friend loved her cushions too. They are on two antique chairs she has in her bedroom as she doesn't like cushions on the bed

morning all. heavy rain at 4am woke me up stated the sleeves on jumper last night. CATS yesterday lucy court a bird left it under clothes line for her daddy. Annie found it and brought it inside and Chleo and Annie had fun, we came home feathers from cat door down hall over lounge , dinning room and family room floors took Mr T 45mins to pick them all up . coss our sucky motor is broken. have a nice day

carolev - 2014-04-28 07:19:00
4458

heavy rain woke me around 3.30 and I couldn't get back to sleep. A bit cooler today but not too bad, put the heat pump on just because I can! We will have to remember to bring the cat in at lunch time as there are supposed to be bomb and firearms exercises just down the road, today and tomorrow, so could be quite frightening for her.

Wonder how long I have to wait for my Deramores order. I'm thinking I should be going through my stash and selling off some that I will never use and that would make room for the new stuff.

Getting on well with my 10 stitch zig-zag baby blanket - still can't decide whether to do mine as a zig-zag or an ordinary one. The ordinary one would be more sensible as I would just keep going till I run out of yarn, but it just looks as though it would be so boring to do. What do you ladies think?

Happy knitting everyone.

morning ladies :) The rain woke us too, gosh it was heavy! Your daughter is very lucky carole, that was an awesome birthday pressie.

I've avoided that 10 stitch blanket kuaka as so many have said how boring it is, maybe find another pattern for you?

We have MrK's carpel tunnel pre-op appointment today and taking son and his freebie sofas back to his flat so a busyish day. Will tuck my crochet into my bag so I have something to do while waiting at the hospital.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. I even heard the rain, normally I hear nothing at night. we have a rainbow at the mo. It will rain tho, then Sooky bob will come inside and stay inside. He doesn't "do" rain. Yet used to love standing in a wheelbarrow of water.
Kuaka like you Ive been thinking I should sell the two lots of chunky wool that I now know I will never used. One of them Ive attempted three different things and just don't like knitting it. but seeing that I only brought the large needles a few months ago, Ill have to sit on it for a while. Although I suppose I could keep the needles, even if I never use them.

Yep our parcels should arrive this week.. Yayayay.

Im going to attempt that pretty crochet blanket that Ann I think it was made, hexagons I think it is. Its all trebles tho. Once Ive done the dolls clothes.

I think Im getting another round of shingles. Will make a couple of drs appointments this week. I can easily cancel them if Im wrong. Its in the back of my shoulder and radiating under my arm to the side. Last time I had them it affected my breathing. this isn't quite so bad, but it is affecting how my arm/ shoulder works.

Have a good day everyone

I got my first Deramores parcel last week. Ordered on the 16th and was here on the 22nd. Quicker than parcels around NZ. 42 x 100g balls of acrylic for $111. A lot of knitting. Well will be knitting today, heavy rain and cold. Gpt the fire going.

grant151 - 2014-04-28 09:45:00
4462

The first 26 balls of mine arrived this morning. Love it all. One I don't recall ordering but Im sure Ill use it.
The 10 I got for me will be a day or two behind these ones.
36 balls for $138... And I didn't have to spend $25 in petrol, which is what it costs me to go to Manukau city to the closest spotlight.

Wonders if Kuakas arrived today, I think ordered one day after me

popeye333 - 2014-04-28 12:17:00
4463

nooooooo, mine hasn't arrived yet, but it was all back ordered and I got an email just a few days ago saying it was being processed. I'm still trying to work out the size I can do my zig-zag blanket. I need to work it out fairly precisely as I need to do enough zig-zags to cover the length of the bed and hope that I have enough yarn to do enough strips to cover the width of the bed. Now if I just did the ordinary boring 10 stitch blanket I could just keep going till it was big enough or I ran out of yarn.

Not much happening on the "demolition" front. Kept cat in from 1.15, as it was supposed to start at 2, puss wasn't very impressed when she kept looking out at the sun on the deck, she's not bothered now as it's raining (typical, I was about to do the rubbi9sh and take it down the road - they won't pick up from our place - have to take it to the next street down) anyway we heard four "booms" just after 4 and nothing since. If I hadn't been listening for the noise I doubt I would have taken any notice, the fireworks are louder on Nov 5.

Oh, yes, hospital phoned today. Lady was quite surprised that there's been no follow-up so now we have an appointment to see the spinal surgeon on 14th May. Just over two weeks. Fingers crossed they can do something.

Happy knitting.

kuaka - 2014-04-28 16:35:00

Yeah its not going to be easy to figure out eh Kuaka. I might try a cot size zigzag at some stage. Unless you make it in pieces and then join them together. which kinda defeats the purpose of not having to sew things up. but might make it easier to judge things.

Ive got 1.5 sleeves to do for the jumpsuit. Then Ill knit and apron. Sew up the nightie and jumpsuit and send it off.
Then I have to decide what I want to do first, and I think it will be the crochet blanket that Ann had in the knitters and crocheters group. Its all trebles, I can manage that I reckon lol.
Will have to make time to find a vest pattern too so I can use one of the lots of wool I got today

Ohh great news about the Hospital. Slack at not making sure he had a follow up appointment tho eh

popeye333 - 2014-04-28 16:43:00
4465

I think I will knit the length I need and then weigh it (that's assuming it takes less than one ball) and from there I should be able to work our whether I have enough yarn to do enough strips to make it wide enough. If it looks as though I won't have enough then I will probably bite the bullet and do the boring one - that or throw myself off a bridge!

kuaka - 2014-04-28 17:19:00
4466

Im sure you will get it sorted out. No jumping off bridges, you have too much wool to knit yet lol

morning ladies :) I'm cleaning behind the fridge this morning as a mouse has been camping there according to the Furry One. He certainly sniffs them out! We also need to return the trailer we borrowed yesterday. Managed to get the sofas to son's flat just in time. Got there and the heavens opened lol but all good. Offloaded them without them getting too wet.

Will do some more crochet or stitching today, seems like a good day for crafting.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. Wow what a wild night, heaps of rain. not cold tho. Still had my fan on overnight.
Lol at the furry one Kiwimade, they do tend to know tho.
Im meant to go do my INR, but Im doing a sook and just don't want to go out in this weather lol.. Ill end up going tho lol
Ive only got to make up the jumpsuit and pick up for the neck and that's all the knitting done on the clothes. Then make up the nightie and its all done. Did an apron as well last night.

Then Ill try the blanket, but no doubt have something else on the go too. Im swapping some acrylic for some merino later in the week , Im going to make me a pair of mittens. Just want to know what its like to knit before I buy more.
Good you got the couches in Kiwimade, they're not a great thing to get wet eh.
Still not sure if Im getting shingles or not. Im keeping the pain under control, but MrP thought there could be spots there. So Ill wait and see what happens in the next 24 hours. Hope not lol

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2014-04-29 08:33:00

Omggg!! It wasn't just a little mouse campsite, it was a whole flippin' camping ground! The upside of it is a dead mouse and one you-can-eat-off-the-floor-clea-
n kitchen floor and clean fridge and walls. Dammm I hate mice inside.

having a quick cuppa then off to return the trailer. Then maybe I will be able to stitch or crochet :).

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-29 09:56:00
4472

Good on the Furry one for letting you know tho. I haven't seen any mice as yet. Bob will know doubt let us know. We have no option cos the roller door on the garage doesn't sit right to the floor so they can get in easy.

Theyre only coming in cos its cooler. Id much rather have 10 mice than 1 cockroach lol.
The little nightie is finished, Im just going to put a little bow on it. Will put the jumpsuit together when done on here.

Got a card in the mailbox that I have a parcel to pick up. So I grabbed my purse and went down. Its still on the truck, It says on the card to pick up the next working day.
When did that start? How stupid to tell you they have a parcel, when they don't.
Makes note to oneself to read things before you go out the door.

So it will either be the extra wool or I haven't got a clue. but I have entered some competitions lately, so maybe Ive won something.

Happy stitching everyone

My parcel of baby knitting for next great grand-daughter went down very well at the baby shower, lots of ooh's and ah's and can I share your grandma's.
Another grand-daughter left today to live and work in the Caribbean for a couple of years (she left Auckland about 2 hrs ago) . She called in and told me I can start knitting for her babies as she plans on starting a family when she gets back.
She also told me that 6 of them went to the dawn parade in Tauranga last friday wearing hats I made.
I must admit I was tickled pink as often I wonder if they wear what I knit.

carolev - 2014-04-30 06:59:00
4475

morning ladies :) Just when I think I have gotten rid of one mouse, another appears. The Furry One went into a mad scramble late last night chasing it and it shot behind the oven. Didn't touch the trap (grrr) so I have pulled all the oven trays out to be washed and set the trap in the warming draw. Now lets see how clever the little buggar is! Once I have caught it, I'll rewash the floor and warming draw... dam I hate mice!

Have lawns to mow again today then I'll be able to crochet or stitch. Must admit I've been doing more stitching lately as I want to get it finished. Almost, almost finished the third quarter.

Son's blanket is looking good, still deciding how big to make it. I suppose I will keep going until it looks 'right'.

Happy knitting :)

oh kiwimade I hate mice too, although I used to have pet ones when I was a kid. Years ago Mr K and I were away for five weeks and the cat came with us, and when we walked back into the house I could smell the mice immediately. They have a very distinctive smell, or rather their wee and poo does. The little devils had burrowed into our bed, they had chewed holes in the sheets and the pillows, and peed and pooped everywhere, they had done the same all through the kitchen cupboards, all the plates were disgusting. Yuk. Between puss and the traps that the neighbour and I set we caught 17 in a few days.

My parcel arrived from Deramores yesterday. Earlier than I expected, the yarn is quite nice, but it's a bit brighter in colour than I had expected. Possibly wouldn't have bought that particular one if I'd seen it in the flesh, and even though I promised myself I would finish the baby zig-zag blanket first, I couldn't resist and have done one complete zig-zag on my blanket. I think it will look okay when it's done.

Bit nippy here this morning, but nice and sunny. Knit and natter this morning then take Mr K for his walk. Dentist tomorrow, but I can't remember what time the appointment is. They usually text me a reminder, but if not, I'll have to phone them. I wonder what the damage to my bank account will be this time.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.
Trusty Furry one in announcing the arrival of more mice. Its the change of temp of course. I haven't seen any here yet. Mind you I think bobcat is getting a bit lazy so I haven't seen him chasing anything yet.

Finished all the dolls clothes. Ill add a picture soon. Then I sat there with very rough instructions and crochet a hexagon... Very pleased with myself. Im going to try a circle too later.

Have to go get this mysterious parcel today, pick up a book from the library, post some parcels and get petrol or I might not get home lol.

Kuaka do you think you will have enough wool to cover the top of the bed.? What did you get?

I have some merino coming from a swap So I might just tinker with the crochet hook till that arrives, then Im going to knit another pair of mittens.

Have a good day everyone

I'm not sure yet popeye, I think I'll have enough to cover the top of the bed but I'd really like some overhang too. I bought Robin paintbox in the "lagoon" shading, it's blue, green and purple, but it's a bit brighter than I expected it would be. Think it will look okay (assuming I ever finish it). It's acrylic, I would have preferred to have wool or some wool content, but cost was a determining factor. If this one gets finished and turns out okay, I might be daft enough to do a second one using better quality wool - but only if I'm daft enough.

Ill have a looky Kuaka. I got 4 balls of paintbox in two different shades. I don't think either are lagoon.. Although one sounds the same.
Have packaged everything up ready to post tomorrow.

Got my parcel from post shop. it was my wool. Wonder why it never came on the courier like normal.. Still its here and Im very pleased with it. Its a crimson purple colour with a sparkle. Brighter than I expected but that's ok, will still be wearable lol

Have been sewing this morning. opening the feet on some long johns, shortening sleeves on a shirt and taking the elastic of trackpants, all for MrP. He can nearly get his trackies on himself, but keeps snagging his feet in the bottom. So worth a try. Was nice for a change too.

Yep one of them is Lagoon Kuaka.. great taste in colour choices lol I only got 2 tho. I got a lot of others so Ill not use it till you have finished your blanket. that way if you should need any, I have some here.
I have plenty of others to keep me busy and had no plans for it.

Thats ok I have plenty of other wool to knit lol.

Just started a wee jumper and tried several times to do the first two rows of a pattern. Pattern is in the bin now. lol. Funny enough its with the same yarn I tried another pattern with a while ago and that didn't work either. Maybe it knows I brought it to do a blanket lol. And wont work on anything else.
But I figure if I can get the first two rows to work the rest will be useless too lol...

morning ladies :) omgg kuaka, those mice would have driven me nuts - in saying that over last autum we trapped 15 of the little buggars. Not quite as bad this year.

No knitting today, we're off to the beach. Sister-in-law has found a piece of driftwood she want for her garden but needs four of us to lug it back to the car. Not my idea of fun on the beach lol. I'm off to pack the picnic basket.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. Is decidedly chilly this morning. ut alas not cold enough for my jacket yet.
Your getting through the knitting Carole.
I started my second jacket last night. Its knitting up nicely. We had a late night so I got a fair bit done.

Off to town today YAYAY finally get to stock the freezer up a bit. And Im going to have a wander around the new Binn inn. And we will go to our fave bakery which we haven't been to in ages.

Which beach from where you are Kiwimade? Not my idea of fun either lol... But will be nice to have a picnic while there.

Have a good day everyone

Hi - I have been having a look/sort of all the bags of balls/part balls of wool I have in my cupboard! Last year I knitted up quite a bit of the baby wool into small baby items and took them into the local maternity home - well received.
Now what to do with the rest, lol. Would the local op shop be receptive - do I need to sort into ply/colour/whatever (what a mission) or just take in the bags? TIA

bodieblue - 2014-05-01 12:05:00

have you got facebook there is a wool swap site there, they can help you, been shopping spent lots of $$$$$$

carolev - 2014-05-01 12:43:00
4491

Hi Bodieblue. NZ Yarn/wool swappers might be a good way to swap what you have for something you need. We are a friendly group

Theres a lot of blanket making happening so odd bits are always welcome

Otherwise the opps shops will take it. I would sort it, but that's just me. they might prefer to do it themselves.

Ok - thanks, have spent the afternoon having a huge sort out into different bags - the acrylics (inherited) off to the op shop - will look at it a bit longer and decide what to do with the rest! Can't imagine how this wool accumulates :-P

bodieblue - it breeds!

What an expensive day I've had. Start off with $35 diesel into the old wagon so I can go to the dentist - well he filled the tooth that I went for originally and which he didn't do last time, and he was a bit embarrassed and said "I won't charge you for this one" so I said "okay, I'll have two please". But boy did he charge for the other two fillings he did. One tooth was cracked and when he started drilling a big chunk broke off. The one I had originally gone to get filled, he said once he started drilling it was like Waitomo Caves. Charming. No pain though 'cos it's already been root filled and so no nerve. So that little session set me back $480, then I went to the supermarket and spent just over $200, and when I checked the maiI I've got the water rates bill which is $170. Ouch. What a waste of money that could be spent on wool, eh?

Hope everyone has had a good day.

kuaka - 2014-05-01 15:59:00
4494

Ohh Kuaka, now that's just horrible... Gotta be something good said for falsies lol.
We spent about $180 on meat and groceries today. pleased the freezer is looking healthy again tho.
No lamb or mutton tho.. dammm.

Havent done any knitting as yet. Ive been putting patterns on a usb so I can print them off at the library.

Now have to check they worked on there ok. And Ill go and splash out tomorrow and get a heap printed. Yay.

Had a brilliant idea about all of us in the yarn swappers and knitters group about us all knitting a square and those who want to can stitch up and then donate around the country. Im scared to look now cos it was very popular.
Think Ill have tea before I look lol

popeye333 - 2014-05-01 17:05:00
4495

kuaka did you know if you show your gold card at the dentist you only pay $35 a visit govt pay the rest I found that out so like dentist a bit better now.

carolev - 2014-05-01 18:52:00
4496

yes I saw that popeye, great idea but sorry I'm not going to volunteer to sew the squares together, though I'd happily make some. Sorry, did you want them all knitted or would crochet be okay?

Meant to say in my earlier post, I dropped some stuff in at one of the op shops and had a quick squizz round. I always think this particular one is expensive for anything in the craft line. They had a bag of 19 x 25gm balls of acrylic (I actually put my glasses on because the labels looked so old I thought they might be 1oz balls) and they wanted - wait for it - $57 !!!!! Why on earth would they think it's worth that much? Also 3 squitty little balls of mohair/acrylic for $27 and they had two of those big 400gm balls of Elle from the Warehouse which retail at $22 or $24 and they were $20 each, and considering there is a woolshop in town and a Warehouse only a few km away I think they've got a flipping cheek - it's not like anyone wanting yarn "has" to travel hours or "has" to buy online as there's no alternative.

My blankie is on hold as I've just got a nice order, so will do that first.

well back from the beach - we started off at Whakatane beach, managed to get the driftwood into the car, then off to Waiotahi Beach for lunch and a wander. Such a gorgeous day, perfect for a day out and the Furry One was in 7th heaven! He just loved the beach, put him on a 20 metre long rope and he was fine.

Popeye, I love your idea and am happy to knit a square. What size?

Dinner is done, now I can sit and crochet for a bit :)

Morning everyone...
Lovely looking beaches Kiwimade. 8 inch squares please.. Ill add you to the group I just rattled off a few to be able to start the group, will get more organised today. When I went offline last night there was 39 joined.
