Matariki Stamps 2008 Looking at the 2008 Stamp calendar from NZ Post I see the June 5th issue is down as Matariki.
Does anyone know if this is the Maori New Year or is this based on a cluster of stars ?

Matariki Is both the Maori New Year and the star cluster known as the Pleiades another name for them is the Seven Sisters. It is celebrated when the Pleiades first appear in the morning sky. That is around June the 5th.

Bogus NZ CAL: being offered on ebay at present CAL collec tors should be aware that a bogus New Zealand CAL is currently on offer on ebay. It is described as a 2008 America's Cup 50 c CAL in MUH blocks of 4 perforated and block of 4 imperforate. The image on the lot is very poor (surprise, surprise. suspecting it was bogus I have contacted NZ Post people responsible for the CAL's and they have confirmed that NZ Post have not produced such an item. I'll be contacting ebay about the matter.
regards to all Steven

Pal or Cal To me a PAL ( personalized stamp )should have the FERN Logo and be paired to a Basic listed design......A CAL ( customized stamp ) should have a colour strip down the Right hand side with the NZPO envelope style Logo on it and be single......
I would be interested in how others distinguish a Pal from a Cal.

re forged CAL on ebay. I don't seem to be able to get any sense out of ebay about this blatent forgery being offered. The seller has a nill feedback score so far so that should be a indicator to possible foolish buyers. at least with trademe you will get a quick reply to any report of a forgery being offered and action is taken by trademe. Moral of the story....buy on trademe with confidence and buy on ebay at your own risk! regards Steven

418 mwaaaaah warm Despite the young lad at the pizza counter fumbling a bit....dropping it on the floor....scooping it up again....and handing it to me....I guess you could say it is still Mint.
.....Obviously my reply to " Do you want fries with that ? ".....being " No I want a Hells Condom" caught the wee lad off guard.

32nd America's Cup New Zealand 2 Sets Blocks of 4 Our friend is back on that other site offering what appears to be America Cup "Cals" at $US50.00 this time. I asked NZ post about it and there reply was "Dear *****

Thank you for your email.

The cal in question was not produced by us.

Customer Services"

I have also asked the seller about these "stamps" and they stated that they were an official NZ post issue. Fake or not. Buyer beware

slovakian stamps... I have made a thread regarding this and was advised to post in here as well....
...we have relatives who have moved to Slovakia for 5 years...have some stamps from there and will have ongoing that seem a shame to throw away if there is a keen stamp collector out there...they are current day used stamps...let me know if anyone would like them...they would be free... Im at the hotplace :)

stamps from envelopes I am nearing retirement and have just shifted house and discovered how many boxes of stamps torn of envelopes I have. I have been a stamp collector since about 8 so remember how to soak them off but would appreciate any "updated" tips on doing this and also what value will they have once soaked and sorted, assuming they are lightly franked, not creased or torn etc? Where is the market for them? Thanks in advance.

#448 was that reply for me? ..the stamps have been removed from the envelopes with paper backing intact. Don't have time to go to a stamp club yet. Just hoped for some quick helpful advice.
