I think she said she was away for ten whole days! I need some of her potions... jumbobon - 2013-08-05 02:51:00
morning all. shall I send healing to your leg jumbo . jugs boiled and rice bubbles on the counter, getting my new glasses today carolev - 2013-08-05 08:05:00
Thank you for breakfast and for healing...it better had work! Still miserable weather here. Going to feed my friend's cats soon. They make me smile...they seem to take turns at demanding cuddles. There has been no more evidence of kills since the headless rabbit episode, but paw prints point to guilty parties on the bench top while no one is at home! The lid is still on the wine though... jumbobon - 2013-08-05 08:53:00
Goodmorning :) coalrange1 - 2013-08-05 09:06:00
Ooh nice coalie. Is it wool or acrylic? Is it heaps cheaper to buy through them? How long did it take for the package to arrive? Noooo...not twenty questions...only three! jumbobon - 2013-08-05 09:28:00
I've never heard of Deramores before. Is i good stuff? I managed to pick up another Bernina sewing machine and Horn cabinet yesterday. I warned partner I sew like I cook (very messy) so I think hes looking forward to my being banished to the rumpus room. Time for coffee methinks...jugs on :) vivz2 - 2013-08-05 09:45:00
thanks for cuppa Viv :) coalrange1 - 2013-08-05 12:03:00
A new machine eh? What model is it? I got into my shed this morning and made a skirt for a little girl...well, a boy wouldn't wear it would he? It has turned out to be sunny here...might go and enjoy it I think. jumbobon - 2013-08-05 12:59:00
The saying that has stuck in my head for many years is... Quilting of the dresdens is going well but I've just reached a little speed bump... what to put in the blank setting triangles... it will fall in to place shortly, I'm sure! Now its only a month until the Hamilton Craft and Quilt Fair... anybody going this year, apart from me? Jumbo... your prickly leg is telling you you're not resting enough! Grrrrr at you! lviolets - 2013-08-05 13:57:00
Its a 930 model. Not quite as good as the 1130 I had but its faster and a heavier machine and all up only $200 for table and machine, so will do for now until I get something else. I eventually want something that has a few more embroidery stitches and maybe with computer connectivity. I will not however be buying a new Bernina at $17k lol! vivz2 - 2013-08-05 14:36:00
I have too many machines 4 strait sewing 3 over-locker and my embroidery machine plus 2 hand machine for the grandkids. but my cusion says you can never have too many, nice sunny day here carolev - 2013-08-05 14:44:00
He he I also have an Elna 7000 sitting in Auckland at my sons flat which was secretly purchased a few weeks ago. I owned one of these new in the 80's and loved it, so I'm thinking this should do for the meantime. MHim indoors thinks i have a problem but hes seen nothing yet and anyway I don't think he needs three motor bikes either ner ner ner lol! vivz2 - 2013-08-05 14:52:00
I'm going to be hand-sewing once I've got the layers together... anyone got tips on what handsewing noobs should avoid attempting? seagull33 - 2013-08-05 15:11:00
Seagull...don't aim for tiny stitches straight off because it won't happen! I actually like using perle 8 with a big needle and big stitches. There are awesome colours that can either match or clash with the fabric and I like the texture that big stitch quilting gives. Ask mr google...he seems to know most things! You know to start fron the middle and work out? Not work out as in moving lots...that just sucks...but stitching from the centre out... jumbobon - 2013-08-05 15:48:00
Yeah, My Friend Google already told me that... Getting a hoop is far more affordable than a decent sewing machine! seagull33 - 2013-08-05 16:19:00
However...should you want to try quilting by machine you can! You don't need anything fancy shmancy...coalie does all of hers on an old singer featherweight. A walking foot is a must if you are not confident with free motion yet...it gently lifts all three layers together onto the next stitch so that there is no puckering on the back when you have finished. Whatever you choose it is all good fun! jumbobon - 2013-08-05 16:43:00
Google Sarah Fielke...hand quilting with perle cotton. A very good video on you tube! jumbobon - 2013-08-05 17:02:00

The hand quilting with pearl cotton sounds great and I must look it up. In the past II always hand quilted but that was back when I could thread a needle, not wear glasses and sew 10-12 stitches an inch. I suspect this time round is going to be somewhat different. Hope everyone is well, we have had staff shortages all week at work and I think at the moment there are residents that could move quicker than I can vivz2 - 2013-08-07 15:59:00
