Where are you planning on going carolev - anywhere nice?

We finally managed to go for a walk after the lovely morning turned to rain again, and I got a load of washing dried, so that was good. After lunch I got all energetic and vacuumed the big rug in the bedroom and then washed the floor in the en suite and the bedroom, and then went to practise snooker. In the end Mr K came down and joined in and we played one frame. Needless to say he beat me (even with a broken neck - doesn't do much for my confidence!) 78 - 9. Course neither of us have played for 18 months but he has a few more years experience than me as he started playing when he was 9 and he taught me a couple of years ago.

And I've done some knitting but I had planned to bake a cake and didn't get that done, but I guess it's not essential and it's fattening so not important - just wanted to use up some over ripe bananas.

Throw them ion a bag in the freezer Kuaka, skin and all. They will be fine for a banana cake when you need one.

Went to go get take aways for tea and the Blardy battery was flat again. Why when things are just starting to run smoothly does this happen. Oh well will have to pay one off at the mechanics. It went flat last week but charged so we thought it might be ok. Hence my wool order... Now its too late. My wool will be on its way.
Hope they aren't hundreds of dollars. As in multiples.

I might have to chuck them in the freezer (they can join their mates in there - already have some from a while ago - I have done it before, but they give me the heeby jeebies when I get them out and peel them, they're like huge slimey slugs - yuk!)

Popeye have you checked the battery has water and the terminals are clean and tight? Hope it's only the battery and not the alternator (or is it the generator? - forget which) as I suspect that could be more expensive - oh and check that the fan belt is tight, 'cos the battery won't charge if the fan belt is loose.

kuaka - 2014-04-21 20:23:00
4405

I agree about the slimy slugs *kuaka*

I haven't had a flat battery for years except when I left the interior light on once. I am not sure that you put water in batteries these days :) I always pay the extra $20 when I take the car for a wof at Vehicle Testing and they seem to look after all of those things. I never lift my bonnet (can't) although son did before we went to Palmerston last Wednesday and checked oil and water and it was fine. Next wof is next week and so is rego due. Not bad for an 19 year old car.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-21 20:44:00
4406

true grandmasue, most new batteries don't have water in these days, but if the battery is on it's last legs, it might be a few years old and just might be one that does need water, and if it's dry it won't charge. If your car is 19 years old, it's young compared to mine - it's a 1989 model - so a quarter of a century old.

arrrgg popeye, I had a flat battery not long ago and the cheapest battery I could find was $250!! I hope it is something cheap and simple to fix!

4408

morning all. not much more to do on the jumper. I paid $400 for a battery for my car but that's coss it's a continental car not jap crap. looking like a nice day might do some washing

carolev - 2014-04-22 07:10:00
4409

morning :) yep carole, batteries aren't cheap. I was so surprised at how much they cost compared to around 7 year ago when I needed one.

Lawns! Lawns! lawns! sigh... I have no choice, the sun is out and they need mowing. I can procrastinate no longer. Will get all the edges done as soon as I've had my coffee, then when the fog lifts (which wasn't there five minutes ago!) I'll mow. Hopefully I can be done by mid morning.

Daughter asked if I could knit our wee grandy something in red so I'll find something wintery to knit, maybe cables seeing as red is a bold colour. That can be my afternoon lol, trawling through patterns :)

Happy knitting :)

morning
At this stage another nice day but can't say if it will last.
Wont discuss batteries as don't want to jinx mine lol!

love red on little ones - it always looks so warm and cuddly, I have a pattern of a little jacket which I have done many times and usually in red as it just looks right in that colour.

Waiting for workmen to arrive with new fireplace

jayemtoo - 2014-04-22 07:59:00
4411

I don't think the batteries themselves distinguish between beamers and nissans personally, and $400 sounds a bit excessive, maybe they just thought "she's got a flash car, must have money, up the price!"

Waiting for a friend to deliver a trailer load of firewood, which will be great as we only have enough wood for about 3 or 4 fires and our usual source is no longer doing it as his truck died.

Did you end up going out carolev?

Might squeeze some knitting in between going for a walk and then going out this afternoon.

Have fun everyone.

kuaka - 2014-04-22 08:35:00
4412

I love red too jayemtoo :) and wear it a lot. I'm sure I have a pattern for a wee jumper all cabled. A new fire will be fabulous, bet you can't wait :)

Lawn edges are all done, washing is on, dishes are done. Now to mow the lawn, will do the roadside first as it is drier than the back lawn. Nice to see the sun, will let the rain soak away, then a couple more days rain please!

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-22 09:11:00
4413

Well that's the firewood stacked - nowhere near enough to see us through winter, but it was free and it's all nicely cut to length, and came with a box full of kindling all nicely stacked and two snapper on a frisbee for a plate! It's so good to have nice friends. Most folk would have sold the firewood that they didn't want but our friends' father came from miles away with it all for nothing. Makes one feel happy with the world. I thanked him very much and said we really appreciate it and he gave me a hug and said "that's what friends are for".

kuaka - 2014-04-22 09:30:00
4414

Morning all. this is about the 5th time of typing a message. the comp keeps freezing on me.
Arranging to get a battery. It doesn't help that I feel horrible, and would rather just bury my head in the sand today.

Nice to have a real fire. We don't. and I miss it.

Ill come back later when we are sorted out

popeye333 - 2014-04-22 09:35:00
4415

Are you an Ostrich *popeye*? lol the day will continue on whether or not you pull your head out of the sand :)
Good friends like that are worth bottling *kuaka* I must admit we do get offered firewood but we no longer use the open fire or coal range. I prefer the heater these days. Less work, because I am basically lazy.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-22 12:38:00
4416

Yes I know grandmasue, we have a heat pump and it's less work than the wood fire, but I don't think anything beats the woodfire really - and it heats the hot water up absolutely piping hot. So nice to stand for ages in a lovely hot shower kidding yourself that "it's not costing me anything for the hot water" (which of course it is 'cos even if you haven't bought the firewood, you've lugged it up the steps and carried it indoors).

Global warming can't come quick enough for me - I hate winter. At least it doesn't get cold enough here for the sea to freeze, I remember that happening when I was a kid in the UK.

that's not being lazy GMS, that's being sensible! When our paddock sells and we do our extensions/alterations, heat pumps are going in.

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-22 19:09:00
4418

we just put in a heat pump now waiting for cold weather still keeping our night store heaters too and our little fanny heater for our rooms. 4 rows to go till I finish this jumper

carolev - 2014-04-22 19:58:00
4419

Fire place in and looking lovely and shiny, probably stay like that for a while. Don't use it very much only on very cold days but the old one no longer met council requirements and I didn't feel it was altogether safe, it certainly was a rather old one. Had it put in originally as father had emphysema and required warmed air all the time, having an electric only house could have been a real problem if power cuts in winter. A couple of times I have been able to invite neighbour over to keep warm whilst the power was off,

Crocheted a couple of beanies while the workmen were here and now back to the knitting.
looking forward to seeing your latest creation Carole

had a bad night again so sat up in bed and finished knitting jumper and started sewing it up. Going for a wof today so will take knitting too. spent some money yesterday on a second new over locker as I am fed up with the other one braking cotton, got to list my old over locker on TM just had it serviced so don't know what to ask for her. 4.4 temp outside and the windows fogged up so winters coming

carolev - 2014-04-23 07:11:00
4421

Much cooler here today too, although it is sunny so hopefully a good day today. Have the heat pump on as it was only 15% in the lounge this morning. Yes, winter's on it's way.

The snapper was delicious last night and there is enough for tonight and tomorrow night too.

Have someone from ACC coming today to assess our needs. Be interesting to see what they say. They asked Mr K yesterday on the phone how long will it be before he gets better and he told them that he doesn't think he will.

Knit and natter this morning but I won't stay too long as I want to come back home and then take Mr K for his walk before this ACC lady comes. Again I will have to find something "no think" to take with me and seeing as I didn't get to sleep till after 4.30 the "no think" will have to be something really simple. Might take some yarn to crochet a baby beanie for charity. I can just about do them with my eyes shut.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-04-23 08:30:00
4422

Morning everyone.
Feeling a lot better today. Yesterday was a flat battery day. I slept for two hours solid in the afternoon. With a blanket on cos I couldn't warm up.

No heating in this house. so we brought one of those fake fires last year. MrP wanted it. Ive never liked them. But its not a bad one really and it keeps Bob entertained for ages watching the "flames" lol

Ive got a couple of rows to do on the glow in the dark green hat, then Ill sew the jacket and that up. Dolly will be well dressed by the time Im finished.

Oh GMS I love coal ranges... If I was ever in the position to have a house built, that's the first thing that would go in.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-04-23 08:31:00
4423

morning ladies :) My nana had a coal range and I loved it. She would hang her tea towels over it and air her washing. Soup has never tasted so good!

Good to see ACC is paying you a visit kuaka, tell them everything you need, including home help and rails in the bath and loo (you probably have all those anyway). Also, make a point of asking if you have everything you are entitled too. They may not offer everything but have to tell you if you ask.

I don't know what price to put on an overlocker either carole, maybe half the new price?

Groceries and picking up son who is coming home to visit today. He has a business idea he wants to run by us and has begun a plan for the bank. Very exciting to see your kids planning their future.

I've pulled a muscle in my back - I suspect I lifted a 40 litre bag of potting mix wrong yesterday - so am a tad stiff this morning. Antiflamme is amazing stuff, will give it a few minutes to kick in.

MrK has wrenched the two plants I want to move so we can move them next week - I was quite happy to just dig them out and replant lol but apparently that is not what you do :P.

Didn't get any stitching or crochet done yesterday, was just too busy. Hopefully this afternoon I will.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-23 08:43:00
4424

Ouch Kiwimade, not good re the back. Ive heard that antiflamme is good stuff. Im not allowed to use it, yet I think it would be a great help in my back.

Be nice to have your son home briefly. Macc cheese for lunch or tea? lol

popeye333 - 2014-04-23 08:48:00
4425

hehehehe lunch tomorrow :P

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-23 13:22:00

Well my "no think" beanie turned into more of a "no progress" beanie, as I got so far and realised I'd gone wrong, so unpicked, carried on and realised I hadn't unpicked far enough so by the time I came home I only had 4 wee rounds. What a waste of time and effort, but I enjoyed the chat.

The ACC lady was quite good, but is adamant I can't get any help with the housework as I did most of that before, and can't get any help with the outside gardening either as ACC don't cover that, but she is trying to arrange some financial assistance to compensate me for the time I spend helping Mr K with his personal hygiene, so I'm not holding my breath. Probably get an extra $1.50 a week or something. She is putting us in touch with some other organisation which assists with over 65s who need help in and around the home, so might get some help there, and she's ordering a special stool for the shower, non-slip mat for the shower etc. Has suggested Mr K needs to get his eyes tested as his eyesight has deteriorated very suddenly since his accident.

Right, the sun is shining in my armchair, so I'm off to enjoy it. Might even get that beanie finished.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-04-23 15:34:00
4427

Lol Kiwimade

Kuaka get your dr to get homehelp for you. I think that's how you do it. And get it on disability. Keep asking cos basically if you didn't do things for MrK ACC or Winz would have to pay someone to do it anyway.

Battery is brought. Going to get one of the young ones either next door or over the back to help MrP put it in the car. Heavy suckers aren't they. but they have a handy handle on them now.

Got me 3 tops which I might use for summer nighties, down from $20 to $3. In the right place at the right time. I Got the bargain lol

Right better go do MrPs sugar etc and get some tea sorted.

morning ladies :) Lovely and bright jumper carole.... ohh the choices lol. Why not something for yourself this time?

Son is home along with his washing. The flat washing machine has died - must be a family thing at the moment lol.

A bit of gardening today then some crochet or stitching.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. Love the colours Carol and the best bit is no one else will have one like it.
Lol Kiwimade. not good re the washing machines...

Had the nice neighbour from over the back come and fit the new battery in the car. My god they are heavy. My arm is still complaining. But he told us anything we need doing that we cant handle we are to holler so we did.

Still waiting for my pressie card to arrive so we can go stock up on meat. I hate the freezer being low. Not as bad as my friend tho she only have hogget roasts and sausages in hers. But I have more than that just not as much as I like.

Have now done a Pinafore, Long jacket, 2 hats and 2 scarves. Started just the nightie. Apparently Hannah has like a large toiletbag which she is going to keep dollys clothes in at nanas. I think that's so sweet.

Shopping today so bet rattle me daggs I suppose.

Have a good day all. Its gloomy up here and only 16 degrees.

Oh My job for later is to clean the filter on the dehumidifier. Starting to get a wee bit of condensation on the bottom of the windows. I blame Bobcat cos I always get far more in my room than any other. Cos he sleeps on my bed lol.

Happy knitting

carolev - 2014-04-24 13:12:00

That's the Hard part eh Carole. Thankfully my sils grand daughter asked for some more clothes for dolly so I only had one evening of What shall I do next lol
Next tho is another jacket for me. When the wool arrives from England

I am starting to knit baby clothes ahead for my great grandchildren. The ones that haven't started yet but are planned for after mothers get their degrees and have had time overseas. I have just wrapped up 6 articles for a baby shower this weekend that I can't attend. "Aunty" is calling in as she passes through. Any minute now. I did smile, she is 26 and we have lived here all of her life but she wanted my street address so she could google directions to our place :)

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-24 18:42:00
4434

She is so proud of herself...lol with the help of her partner who has been here twice she found us.
It is time I went to bed.....I did knit one bootee tonight but it looks really small but I will knit a mate for it tomorrow.

Morning
nice day here at the moment but I'm heading north later today and the forecast isn't the best, so better get going before it gets too wet.

Good that the 'Aunty' found your place ok Grandmasue how did we find anywhere before Google and GPS lol.

Was awake 6am but still in bed but see on facebook that younger relies have gone to dawn services.

Started more socks last evening, like to have something light to do when away, off to Tonga again so don't want to be taking anything.

Happy knitting everyone

morning ladies :) A quiet day here for us even though son is home. Somehow he has managed to wrangle a couple of free sofas from someone in town.... could we borrow a trailer and pick them up sometime please and when we take him home take the sofas as well lol. Gotta love your kids.

Housework today and then who knows. Have got buggar all crochet/stitching done over the last few days.

'Lest we forget'

4438

Morning everyone. would have been wet dawn parades this morning . I have to admit Ive never been to one.
Good that the google is working GMS lol Kiwimade well done on the son managing to get some couches lol...
Washing is on, we have had rain, sun and now a misty very light fog. So Ill put it out and may have to finish it in the dryer.

Nearly to the length of the summer dress for dolly but Im going to make it longer and turn it into a nightie. Will visit the patchwork shop here and see if I can get some little flowers to put on it, or maybe just put some little ribbons on it.
Still waiting for my pressie card to arrive. which Ill use to stock up the freezer, its getting terribly low. I hate it that way.

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2014-04-25 08:40:00
4439

A real pea-souper here today, it's like looking out the window into cotton wool. Cooler too. Heat pump is on. We've had it on several mornings even though I don't usually reckon to need heating until May, but what the heck, if the temp is cold, we put the heating on despite the month, I have been known to use it in January. Us old folk can't afford to be cold. Hope the fog clears later so we can go for a walk.

I'm half-way on the 10 stitch zig-zag baby blanket which is for charity and have just had an email to say that the yarn I ordered to do a blanket for our bed is being processed, I ordered it Easter weekend from Deramores but it was on back-order. I can't decide whether to do the ordinary 10 stitch (reluctant to do that one) or the zig-zag, but I want to use all the yarn, and not sure how big I would be able to make it if I do the zig-zag. I would have to do some calculations so I end up with the maximum size but not too long and skinny. I'm still undecided.

Meantime, I'm busy crocheting beanies as well, and will be sending a parcel off to B4B soon. I'm only going to do two or three this year. Last year I sent one every month.

I've also bought some merino and want to make a jersey for me, will have to look for a suitable pattern.

I watched that movie on TV1 the other night about the conscientious objectors and was horrified at the way they were treated. It never occurred to me that they would be tortured like that.

Have a peaceful Anzac Day, and as kiwimade says "Lest we forget". I don't think we will forget - ever.

kuaka - 2014-04-25 08:44:00
4440

I watched the Movie too Kuaka. Although my Dad was a Pilot Officer in WW2 and saw a lot of action that he seldom spoke about he always said that the 'Conshies" were the brave ones.
I have knitted the mate for the wee bootee this morning and have started a hat. Most of the wool I am currently using is Merino . Although I also have some Possum Merino I am knitting up for a daughter. All from Utiku, The Wool Company. I spent $140 there last week when I called in.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-25 11:08:00
4441

I missed that programme, hoping it will come back on tho. I really wanted to see it .

Had wondered how it went at Utiku GMS. Must have a look online... Must? im not sure lol but will I.. Yup lol

Now that the washing has been through the dryer, its fine here now.

Have a mountain of Avon books to look through, my avon was delivered a few mins ago. I never buy much but like looking through the books. One of their body lotions was excellent for MrPs dermatitis so have just got two more bottles.

popeye333 - 2014-04-25 12:24:00
4442

Hmmm, well my Dad was stationed in Cairo during WW2 and all he ever really said about it was 'sphinx and stinks!' - his only brother was stationed in Italy and was assigned as driver to some high ranking officer (can't remember his actual title) and delivered the officer to the building where the meeting was to take place. Poor old Uncle Reggie had a weak bladder and after waiting outside the building for what he said seemed like a lifetime, he ducked around the back of the building in search of a place to relieve himself. When he returned the jeep he was in charge of, was up on blocks and had no wheels. He was court marshalled and when he came up in front of the big brass and they questioned him, they said he was a "silly bugger" - what are you? "I'm a silly bugger sir". Case dismissed. Poor old Uncle Reggie, used to take a treacle tin with him everywhere "just in case". I only thought about it recently. Must have been really hard on my Gran. Her only daughter had committed suicide and then her only sons were both sent overseas in the war. Must have been very traumatic.

Food for thought.

kuaka - 2014-04-25 18:18:00

morning all. my dad was in the royel mareins sorry about spelling and his twin was in the navey. and uncle jimmy the army . jimmy died in france ,dad never taken about it on the day he died he got a medel from the russions . finished the back of the cardie , was very tired last night so missed 1/2 the news as I fell asleep

carolev - 2014-04-26 06:48:00
4444

it is food for thought kuaka.

Morning ladies :) Managed to crochet some more squares for son's blanket last night, guess he knows what he is getting for his birthday lol.

Have a few things to do outside today - the garden is never ending but I love the creativity and physicalness (if that's a word) of it all.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-26 08:05:00
4445

hey popeye, could you stop into our FB group (yarn swappers) please as there is a question there you maybe able to sort out.

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-26 08:30:00
4446

Morning everyone... Of course its a word Kiwimade, I like words like that lol.

Yep will check fb shortly.

Had a friend come around to pick up her birthday present yesterday. MrP cant get into her house, stairs at both doors. Made her a couple of cushions from the same fabric that id made her curtains in. Only I just happened to see a remnant in spotlight ages ago. And got just enough. Put it away safely and only found it last week lol. Its her 49th birthday today, shes 9 days older than me and I never let her forget it. lol

Have finally gotten to the shaping for the armholes on this nightie. The big work over with phew. Going to make a jumpsuit next. Might do it in fleuro lime green lol.SIL sent me two 10cm zips so that will fit perfect.

Not sure if we are doing much else today. Will depend on the posty lol. I have made room in a couple of drawers to put the Christmas meercat ornaments which were temporarily put in one of my wool pantries. Will move them later, since I have my order due this week.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-04-26 08:59:00
4447

morning all, not such a nice looking day today, very overcast, and fog hanging over the hills in the distance, no wind so I hope the fog doesn't roll in to us.

Thought of you yesterday afternoon popeye, when I poked my fingers into a new ball of wool and pulled out half of it instead of just the end I was searching for, and of course it immediately looked like a birds nest. Usually it works, but just sometimes it doesn't.

I think I will have to check the mail on my own next week and somehow smuggle in my Deramore's order, Mr K already thinks I have more yarn than I can possibly use in what's left of my lifetime but if he sees another 25 x 100gm balls arrive, he will think I'm totally nuts. (He probably thinks that anyway)

Happy knitting everyone

PS, my garden needs some work kiwimade, you wouldn't like to come and get physical with it would you?

kuaka - 2014-04-26 09:17:00

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-26 10:50:00

If you came, you'd probably leave in a flash too once you saw the state of it!

kuaka - 2014-04-26 10:53:00
4450

Lol Kuaka, some balls do end up in a mess eh.

Ive had a pleasant morning pottering in my office/wool/sewing room. Making room for my new order. I need to get a small clothes basket to put all my crepe wool in. Its getting a bit messy lol. re wound a couple of small bits of wool my sil sent. Found a safer place for the Meercat that wouldn't fit in a bedside cabinet. Put the little bags of buttons into small containers, making a bit more order in the other button trays.
Put the patterns my sil sent, with Bobcats help of course. He had to sit on the folder I was putting lose pages in. but I found one in a book and went to put it in the folder and he promptly sat on the folder the ratfink he is.
