Have just had a lovely few days off work . . . doing nothing and feeling a little like I was achieving nothing.

Got to catch up with my older sister and my niece to help plan a wedding dress and select fabric. My sis is making the dress with me as assistant. This will happen long distance with her coming up for a full on effort for a week in September.

My man and I have been trying to select carpet for our house and that has been very testing. Went from being so far apart on what we each wanted and with me trying to get him to understand 'dark' 'medium' and 'light' and are now nearly there . . . whew!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, we didn't have anything planned but spent the day checking out carpets in open homes. That was funny cos we will never be buying a house but they didn't seem too worried that all we'd come to do was view certain carpets in situ.

We've had some rather cool days here in Hamilton but they have been stunningly sunny and we have a sheltered courtyard where it is lovely to just relax. Also had my partner's sister stay overnight - always lovely to see her. She's got hospital visits here as she has cancers on her skin that need major dealing too.

Happy belated birthday to Dilli and Coalie - must be a good month eh?

Vi...that quilt is spectacular! ESS would be impossible so why not outline the appliqué? You could do Every Stinking Seam on the Dresden pieces though. She reckons it makes a huge difference...bit man oh man you would need the patience of Job!
Judy...I don't think I wished you a happy birthday...so here's a big wish tied up with pretty ribbons just for you.
I have been sewing a binding tonight. Someone I know does all the corners first so I have done that. Tomorrow might see a finish...except for some embellishment that needs finishing.

Oh Dilli, thank goodness for crystal balls!!! Thanks all for your lovely comments... am really quite excited about this one and so nice to be able to share it! Ok Jumbo, will make a start on outlining the applique... might as well put a sleepless night to good use! I have done every stinking seam on the one other dresden block I have done... and by golly Cindy is right... it does make a difference! (damn her LOL!) Will worry about that later tho... the outlining is going to take me a month of Sundays for starters!

Ooooh its tomorrow now... have you finished yet Jumbo LOL? Do you machine finish your bindings or hand sew?

Will try not to make too much noise so you lot can get your beauty sleep ;-) You sleepy yet Dilli?

I have finished it! DD is holding it up for me...look at the beautiful blue sky! Rather a contrast to the sight this morning. GS has a job at the kennels behind us this week and he came inside puffing and panting at ten o'clock this morning asking for my ipad so he could take a photo...isn't it wonderful? There was a leak in an irrigation pipe and coupled with a heavy frost...well, it speaks for itself.

Thank you for being so kind about the quilt. Yes...my hand dyed fabrics with a few commercial prints as well. Melody Johnson has a wonderful array of free pieced quilts and she put this on her website last week. Fun to make...if it clashes put it together!

Hi all. Just had a quick read and looked at photos of quilts. Some beautiful work there. I am sitting in lazy boy chair beside dad in hospital. My brother on other side. We are not leaving him alone at present. He is peaceful right now. Has been on comfort cares for last week but doctors are amazed he still with us so they are reassessing tomorrow. This is one exhausting emotional roller coaster ride. Poor Mum

I got a "sistema" brand microwave noodle bowl - has a clip on lid to keep the smell in.
