Hi Everyone.. hope your weekends are going well.. one of our local bookfair's was this weekend - I spent an hour or so browsing and finding some treasures.. my Mount TBR pile has grown higher!

Welcome back Pam - glad you had a lovely time while away..

Hi Calista.. thinking of you.. hope you're feeling better very quickly..

How is everything for you all there in Canterbury.. are the shakes easing at all.. sure hope so..

Hello Rae.. wow.. the quilt is gorgeous.. must have been a fabulous surprise to receive it.. made with love I'm thinking..
I clicked reply to your email and sent one to you the same day.. as I've not had a reply back, maybe mine aren't reaching you for some reason.. I'm concerned that something I sent you several weeks ago hasn't been received as I've not heard back from you, hope it reached you! I've just emailed again now and hopefully this will reach you.

Have a lovely weekend Everyone..

Thank God for the people who invented ventolin - I'm breathing much more easily - but bed is still going to be the best place to be tomorrow.

Thanks for the reminder on hydration 2halls - I had forgotten the v8 juice I usually get when I have a cold, but I have lots of soup.

Glad to hear you are feeling better Calista, I would settle for not feeling continually shattered lol.
Dinner last night was a bit of a disapointment, wouldn't reccomend the restaurant to anyone, and advertising they were at the Hilton was a bit of an exageration, it was ok for cheap and cheerful, but not somewhere I would go back to. I booked weeks ago and asked for a window table and they tried to put as at the back on a long shared table... anyhoo... remember I am an event manager from way back... so after a to do.. we sat by the window lol.... think I buggered up the rest of the nights bookings. Anyhoo the company was great as usual, we laughed lots about the place... and stopped off at Mission Bay for an Ice cream... so I suppose all in allm not what we expected but a good night.

Off to a car run with DH, and aim to do about 4-5 loads of washing before we go.... and I have an 8kg machine!!... last weekend I said i must do a load mid week... but never did grrrrr, so will turn the house into a chinese laundry today.....

Have a great relaxing Sunday everyone,

Take care
JB

Did anyone hear Nicky Wicks on Radio Live yesterday morning with Tony Murrell in the kitchen and garden show? She very truthfully offered up that there is nothing better than leftover pudding for breakfast the next morning, especially pavlova heh heh.

No trip to Tauranga today for me! Still snowing hard here and getting thicker but its really weird - 30 cm in some eastern suburbs but none at Hororata at the base of the hills - I can't ever remember that before. My 22 year old sons are like 9 year olds this morning. The one who has just moved into a flat was lamenting their very small lawn but has just realised his aunt's lawn is a few houses away and unguarded while she's away(she is fanatical about leaving it pristine in the snow so the aim of all the kids is to make snow angels on it before she catches them). I imagine she'll be getting the photos soon. Can't help thinking about the poor souls with portaloos and gaps in their walls, especially the elderly.

Ooops, winnie! Surprising how we don't think snow is heavy. I hear they have closed the Botanic Gardens as they are worried about branches breaking and falling on people.

Here's some of my photos, I especially like the last one all white trash (pun intended) with the snow on the rubbish bins sitting on the front courtyard...

I like your 'rubbish' sumstyle!
Pam - you don't have as much as us but I'm guessing snow in the Wairarapa is very rare.
We've been out & built a snowman of sorts ... enjoying the warmt inside now :)

It's three years since we've had snow settle like that and I don't think we've had as much as this since 92. Much prefer it this time as we had no power for four days that time, ran out of firewood, had three small children and a husband who was away coordinating snow rescue. This time we're cosy inside looking out and neither of us had to get up for our flights this morning.

Wow.. the snow photos are amazing..here and on TV.. though I'm thinking of the many people without power and other basic facilities due to the quakes and now the snow.. keep warm all..

Thanks Rae.. just saw your message above and thanks for replying.. something definitely happening with emails.. good this one came through.. thanks

I made something a bit different for dinner tonight.. a 'make again' goody..

Sauté freshly grated ginger and garlic and a sliced onion.

Simmer/steam till as tender/firm as you want: swede, carrots and yams..

When the veges are almost cooked, add sliced cabbage to the garlic & ginger mix, and saute till as crisp as you prefer.
Strain veges if needed, back on the side of the element with the lid off to let steam escape.
Toss through the garlic & ginger mix
Add the freshly squeezed juice of 1 or 2 lemons (I think limes would be nice too)
Toss through.. and serve with chopped fresh parsley sprinkled over the top..

I think kumara, parsnips, etc would be nice too - and some fresh or canned pineapple pieces.. Brussels Sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.. as well..

Goodmorning,
it's currently -5C in Chch! BRRRRR!!!
Going to be icy on the roads this morning so I'm kind of hoping classes are cancelled for another day ...
Really feeling it for all those Chch people living in munted homes on munted streets! The snow was pretty but I know for those folks it's just another chapter in their ongoing nightmare :/ The melt today is going to bring all sorts of problems ... especially on the damaged sewage system. Charlieb - hope you've got your gladwrap & bricks ready!
Take care all & stay safe.

It's very cold in Christchurch but the sun is out and looks absolutely beautiful shining on the snow and ice. Our lawn doesn't look as if there's any danger of a thaw soon. Haven't tried driving yet as work is closed until 12.00 but it shouldn't be bad on the main road. Hope everyome's keeping warm and enjoying the view while it lasts.

I stayed inside again today, and even the fat'n'fluffy creature didn't go out for long. It must be a pain being fluffy with short legs, so your tum is dragged through the snow, then having to lick yourself clean. I put a little bit of warm water into her bowl as she dips her paw in to wash herself.

At least my breathing is easier.

Gosh calista, you do not sound flash. I got very wheezy today but that was cos it took me so long to shovel the snow off my driveway and my part of the road. It took me until 3pm! If it freezes in Chc overnight, once again I won't get to work, although tomorrow maybe it'll just be that I'm late as opposed to not getting there at all. I hope at least you got to see some sun to lift your spirits a little?

Ha - good thing you were there when the grader came. When I decided to risk backing the car out onto the road, and drove down to the river to walk the dog (cos snow on grass is far less slippery than snow on footpath), there were heaps of streets that had been cleared really well. So tomorrow, all I have to do (ALL!) is negotiate the ice on my street.

Gosh, we're going to be a sore but fit lot of foodies here in Chch - I did the driveway here too so we could escape the house this afternoon!
Classes were cancelled again - the gods must be smiling on me as it meant another whole day spent with miss 14 :)
Calista - hope you feel better soon.
