I see that the US Embassy have commissioned the latest New Zealand CAL stamp Issue. A booklet of 10 70c CAL's celebrating the US marines in New Zealand during WW11. The booklet will be made available to collectors in the Annual CAL pack early next year. this is an unusual and probably first for a foreign country to be commissioning NZ stamps. I wonder what next. North Korea celebrating their great leaders Mothers 120th birthday or Australia Government advertising "Come to WA and get paid heaps to work in the mines". perhaps we can help NZ Post to be proactive here and suggest topics for the various embassies to consider?

. I was privileged enough to attend the 4th of July celebrations in Wellington, and was presented the medal depicted on the stamp. Following on from this, myself and a colleague got a letter each (with the cal) saying thanks from the US ambassador. Quite a nice piece of history.

You were very lucky to get that invite and also to receive a letter. Was the letters' envelope franked with one of the CAL's? If so can you post a scan for us to see.

Sure thing, I'll try and remember tomorrow, how do I get the image on here though?

We had a good turnout today at the Christchurch fair with quite a few new faces there and the dealers always seemed to be pretty busy. Actually there was also an impressive range of material for sale with literally hundreds of albums and stockbooks for collectors to browse through.

Anyone seen any of this brown colour around? They may have been oxidised in Rotorua. (collectors in the region may know). The last one looks like it was printed in brown ink.

There must be a local that can illustrate the hydrogen peroxide technique.

Not quite sure whats been happening here. I returned from The Gold Coast on Sunday after 10 days. I left someone too look after my auctions as there we so many in progress and it seems more has gone on than than should have re: comments. I see some comments removed etc. I will be speaking to the person concerned tonight. Sorry if anyone has been offended! It seemed such a simple thing to do.....you can't rely on people.

OK, I have found out that the person I had looking after my account decided that they would make some comments on the community boards, "Not realising they were on MY account when they made the comments as they were juggling between their own account and mine" they say. They are sorry. I have to accept that. Hmmm. I also find that the person concerned has BLACKLISTED a number of people on my account, because they annoyed them! Charming!! People I have never heard of! So I am now sorting that out. If TradeMe had a policy to suspend accounts or cancel auctions without penalty, there would be no problems. But we have to finalise all sales prior to a holiday. It seems a bit draconian with today's technology. Lesson learnt.

Thanks for the info Donaldo. I will leave them as is as I think they make an unusual part of the collection. Did many of the early stamps discolour in Rotorua, or was it just this issue?
PS. I didn't know this Stamp Forum existed until I was advised about it on Tuesday. A world on local info here. Thanks all.

Hi, new to the thread and have just unearthed my stamp collection after many years. I have an album with illustrations that you hinge the stamp over but it ends at 1974. Where do I get the years between then and now? Or can you buy a blank illustrated album with all in it? Not sure where to look or where to start.... Thanks for any help :)

If this is a New Zealand album then it would be cheaper to buy a new album than to try to get all the pages from 1974 to 2012 because that is 36 years of supplements. You would need an extra binder as well because there have been more stamps issued since 1974 than before that year. If you live in Wanganui then i'm fairly sure that if you go along to the Philatelic bureau there (Stamps & collectables) they will be able to offer you a suitable album. Probably Premier Loose leaf. go and talk to them and see what they have.

It is part of the pictorial cancellation used for the 1953 Royal wedding flight to London. Quite common but looks unusual when you just see that part of it on a stamp by itself.

It looks like part of a slogan cancellation used for the coronation of the Queen in 1953.

A stamp fair will be held Saturday at the Philatelic Centre 67 Mandeville st, Riccarton . 9 am to midday .
At least four local Dealers will have tables ,the rest are stamp collectors,12 tables in all .Hundreds of years combined Stamp Collecting experience available to harvest.

Hi Jenni,

I am one of the dealers who has a table at the Saturday stamp fair and I also operate full time from temporary premises following last years earthquakes. Doing an appraisal is not so difficult if you have handled collections of all types over the years and i for one am always happy for somebody to watch while i go through a collection. It usually only takes minutes rather than hours. i do not make a charge for a verbal appraisal and I'm always happy for somebody to get a second appraisal done.

The regular stamp fair will be held tomorrow morning (Saturday) at the Philatelic Centre 67 Mandeville st, Riccarton in Christchurch. 9 am to midday .
Lots of dealer tables, lots of stamps, many bargains, a great venue, no hassle parking and free admission. what more could a collector want? (Don't answer that!)

The Rural Delivery Stickers for Tracked Parcel Post are $2.80 each and you can't use stamps. The Parcel Post portion can be paid with stamps.

Cheers for that Donald,
Pmk's are something I know very little about, err nothing about.
What do you mean by "Class" ??
Can you or someone point me to a tut or write some thing for us unknowledgeable ones. :)
I'm off to give Google a thrash and see what I can learn.
Thanks.
