I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
4251

It will still look lovely Kuaka, since grey goes with just about anything.

Yep best keep the furry one inside, poor thing might get too scared. good they gave you notice of things.
Ive checked the paper, the runners wont be going anywhere near the supermarket and the race doesn't start till 10am so ill be home before its started.
You have done well with buying wool. It must be getting close to two months since I brought any.
Im getting a pressie card soon that could easily be spent on wool. But I was going to buy my window vac with it. And then I told MrP we could use it for petrol to go see his mothers headstone... It such a waste of money tho, since we will probably only be there 10 mins max.
he may change his mind anyway, cos hes always stuffed after a 15 min car ride let alone over and hour each way.
I dusted yesterday and its nice to see nothing has fainted in fright lol... The floors need doing but they can wait lol.

Right the washing has finished so time to move a little.

Have a good day

morning ladies :) Omg GMS, hope pasue is on the mend! Pretty scary for all concerned.

Everyone has been so busy :) I sneak a few rows in here and there lol and our daughter is going well with her crochet. Our grandy has discovered this morning she can move backwards, so another milestone! So neat having them both here.

I have picked up two weeks teaching next week and the next so won't be getting much knitting/cross stitch done. But I need the work so not complaining!

Happy knitting :)

pop eye and grandmasue 1 thank you for the links to the lovely wee patterns. I now will have to get a move on and complete some projects I have on the go so I can knit these!! Once again thanks, it much appreciated.

Morning

Kuaka that wool looks great - I tried dying wool black yesterday but not very successful it was going to be pink and black but has ended up a grapey purple and I can't seem to get it to be colour fast either even soaked in salt solution over night and it is still leaking color. I used liquid food colouring from the supermarket so think I will try and get black powder which professional cake icers use.

The race sounds fun Popeye but I can imagine it could be quite disruptive for traffic.

Managed to do another trip over yesterday when out walking - uneven footpaths can be quite a hazard. i felt myself going so headed for the grass so at least my hands are not grazed but managed to do a good scrape of a knee. Still can walk and that's the main thing.

Am using up scraps of wool at the moment on beanies.

Glad to hear you have the work Kiwimade.. all helps the coffers eh. And who knows, it may turn into permanent.
Wow Maddy is doing well. Love seeing their little faces when they discover something new to do lol.
I hope you have mentioned to Daughter that she might find she ends up with a huge stash of wool, untold patterns to print out and a zillion things on her To Do list lol.

Ouchies Jayemtoo... Make sure you rest that knee a little. beanies is such a good way to use up little bits eh.
Im doing Bow Knot Scarves to use up mine. They only take about 32 grams so is good for part balls. Ive got a couple of balls which I got in a bulk lot a while back that look like they have been sliced at some stage. Ill get the wool winder out and see what I can recover from them. And any longish bits Ill use the magic knot on them to salvage as much as I can.

Have turned one side of the heal. About to do the other when Ive had my play on here

popeye333 - 2014-04-05 12:25:00
4256

jayemtoo - did you microwave the wool after you had put the dye in? I give mine five x one minute zaps on high, wrapped in glad wrap and then let it cool a bit, take the glad wrap off and rinse, with a little squirt of dish washing liquid and hardly any colour comes out. Sorry to hear about your trip, luckily you aimed at the grass or it would have been worse. Get better soon.

kuaka - 2014-04-05 13:26:00
4257

Yes Kuaka did just as you do and it worked fine for the other lot that I have done and had virtually no loss of colour with that lot so the only thing I can put it down to was the type of food colouring I used as had used the powder ones for the first batch.

Love the bow scarves Popeye so have them on my to-do list.

jayemtoo - 2014-04-05 15:40:00
4258

Phew ended up with a comfortable 2 meters of wool left.. On the pink Bow Knot scarf....Wouldn't really want to be much closer than that.
Have also turned the heal on the sock.. so just have to knit to length and do toes and Im done.
Yay.. it will be the only pair I make.. I cant say I enjoyed it enough to want to make another pair lol

popeye333 - 2014-04-05 18:15:00
4259

I don't mind knitting socks, but to get them the right size I have to knit them on very thin needles, so I don't usually knit more than about 20 rounds at a time, so it's quite a long process.

kuaka - 2014-04-05 18:23:00
4260

These are done on two needles.. Ill never learn four needles or circular I don't think...
Oneday maybe lol But theres soo much I want to make that will keep me going for years lol.
Found some really nice fingerless gloves this morning, done on two needles. Might do them next, for me

Pasue has had a reasonable day. I never get anxious and got the giggles talking to the Ambulance operator who stayed on the line because she was talking in her 'calming' voice' I could hear the ambulance coming as this is a smallish quiet town. I might not have called for help but I couldn't get him up and this time he couldn't get himself up...it was more of a faint than a fall.
I see *CaroleV* still hasn't been in, she hasn't phoned either which she does do from time to time. I am wondering if one of us has offended her?
I haven't seen her name on FB either now tat I come to think of it. I am currently knitting on needles she gave me.
So *kiwimade* you will be working until Easter and holidays. Some teacher must be having a bigger holiday or maybe even a baby.
I am not planning on trying wool dying but you never know.
I am planning an early night with my book. Might knit a few rows first as haven't done any today.
Son and kids came around and shared birthday cake. It is Miss I don't want to be 13's birthday.
She says she is not yet ready to go out with boys, wear make up, try drugs or get drunk. She was happy being 12.

this is what the dyed wool ended up looking like, although the difference between the blue and turquoise doesn't really show up very much:

The piece at the top is quite turquoise compared to the piece directly below it.

Morning,
Hope you all enjoyed your extra hour sleep in.

Your wool looks great Kuaka, I have a couple more lots to try dying at some stage.
Good to hear that Pasue had a better day. When working in the community we used to tell older people tot never try and lift someone off the floor, it just put 2 people at risk. Once on the floor they can't go any further so work out if injured and if so call an ambulance, if not make comfortable and in a wee while they may get up themselves or think who can help. The police will help as they work in pairs and are good and strong and more of them out there than ambulances. One elderly lady did this but told us "they were such nice young men I think I will do it again tomorrow"

I never had a 13 birthday either just a 12plus as my older brothers teased me that teenagers were awful people and got into all sorts of trouble so I adamantly refused to become one!

have a good knitting day everyone

Morning everyone.
Glad to hear Pasue had a better day.. yep they tell you not to pick people up... When my BIL collapsed here I picked him up and had him sitting on a chair , before I really realised what id done. Pure adrenaline the ambos said. But they also told me not to do it again.
Wasn't Carole going to the South island?

Love the wool Kuaka, cant wait to see it knitted.

I breezed through being a teenager. But I think that had something to do with growing up awfully fast when dad died. I didn't really feel like I had a childhood after that really. friend and I were talking about it the other day. she said she always felt I was "older" than them, and I said Im glad she told me cos that's how I did feel.

Should finish the sock today. Im going to run out of wool so it will have a different coloured toe. MrP said that's fine by him he will wear them anyway.

Beautifully fine here for the Sand to Mud.. Will get my skates on tho, town will be busy so I need to go to the supermarket before it gets too busy.

Happy Knitting and have a good day

morning :) Gorgeous dying Kuaka, one day I am going to try this!

The teacher is going into hospital GMS so has to go when her name comes up on the list. It's all good for me though, no complaints here. Will be planning for a bit today, daughter has some old school friends visiting to catch up, family over for dinner, son-in-law arrives tomorrow - so it's all go here.

There was something snuffling out in the garden in the wee hours this morning so we are going on a hedgehog hunt. I apologise to those that love hedgehogs, but they attack my ducks and ducklings and eat native birds eggs so this one has to go.

Sometime today I will sneak in a few more rows of our grandy's shrug - up to the sleeves now.

Have a good day everyone *waves to carolev* happy knitting :)

Good morning, we got up late and the sun is now streaming in.

No, I don't think carolev went south as she changed her mind for now.
*jaymento* We never thought of having a 12+ party...what a grand idea.
This GD has possibly grown up to be responsible as the eldest of four and a Mum who has health issues + the youngest brother is Autistic. She is mature in lots of ways and is off to Japan later this year, one of 4 selected from her school. We are busy fundraising.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-06 10:29:00

Well the tsunami warning alarm was a bit of a fizzer - maybe we're too far away, but if we'd had the telly on or been in the shower we never would have heard it. Would have thought it was just a neighbourhood burglar alarm. Thought it would be much louder than that. Having said that, we are high enough above sea level that I doubt we'd be in any danger in the event of a tsunami.

Went for our walk along the waterfront, trying to get him to walk a little bit further every day, but it was so hot there today we only went the same distance as yesterday, then came back and washed his hair, and changed the lining on his pesky collar (that's a very tricky procedure) then gave myself a haircut - can't decide whether to colour it again or let it just go grey and old looking. Also cleaned some windows.

Now feet up time with a glass of vino and some knitting (10 stitch blanket, I unpicked the bit I'd done in the second colour, cast aside what I had done for the first strip and I'm now doing a first strip in the second colour)

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Yay I have finished the socks. And No I don't want to make another pair lol. They fit him well. Cos they are only acrylic Ill have to put some shirring elastic in the top eventually.

https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/311625254.jpg They look huge lol and you can see I was a measly 4 rows short.

https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/311625974.jpg

He thinks he's clever cos he has a left and right foot sock.

Will start some mittens or another box scarf after tea

popeye333 - 2014-04-06 16:03:00
4271

haha popeye, they are unique - and if they ever go missing off the clothesline, you'll know if you see someone else wearing them if they've got sandals on.

There might be a market for them *popeye*

Cheeky GMs... I cant see me doing any more for a long while. I have a pair knitted for me about 12 years ago by an old darling lady when we lived in mangakino. Stripey ones... And being that I seldom wear them, they are still surviving.

True Kuaka, that's what he said to me, no on will know about the light toe.

popeye333 - 2014-04-06 16:47:00
4274

They look good Popeye and "special"

They tested the emergency siren here too, I had to laugh as the neighbour's dog started howling in time with the siren and was a lot louder, so I hope he keeps up the howling if the siren goes off for real as I'm not sure I would hear it if asleep at night.

jayemtoo - 2014-04-06 17:59:00
4275

Our emergency siren goes off every time the Fire brigade is called out, at least once a day and mainly to accidents on SH1 it even wakes me at night and we are 3k's away.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-06 21:09:00
4276

This was a different siren grandmasue, it was nothing like the fire siren which calls the volunteer fireman to the station when there's a fire. This one just sounded like one of the neighbours burglar alarms had gone off.
I just hope that it is loud enough for those whose houses are just above sea level to be able to hear it if it is ever required for real.

kuaka - 2014-04-06 21:56:00
4277

morning ladies :) We had a labby who would howl with the fire siren too - every Monday at 7.00pm lol and everytime it went off for an emergency.

Off to school so no knitting for me today. One more day with our grandy and they go home tomorrow.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-04-07 07:14:00
4278

we had a german shepherd/dobermann cross who used to howl with the fire siren, and also with one particular track on a van halen record! Not sure what the day brings yet but it looks like it's going to be nice at least to start with so will take his nibbs for a walk, and then maybe if I feel energetic enough some gardening or housework before knitting. Slept like a log last night and feel a bit thick-headed this morning. I am very tempted to start knitting that last lot of wool I dyed but I have several things on the go, so I'm going to try to be good and finish some of them first, although I really really really want to see how the dyed wool knits up.

Have a great day everyone.

kuaka - 2014-04-07 08:04:00

Morning everyone... Daylight saving has everyone awake earlier.

Our siren goes off every day at 7-30 am. Wake up call. It went three times yesterday afternoon.. But it also goes for medical emergencies too.

Have fun at school Kiwimade. great day for it.

I too have a funny head this morning Kuaka. My sinus bunged up through the night. So about 5am I took an antihistamine to see if that would help, and used my saline nasal spray. it has worked to a degree. not perfect tho. My throat was sore last night too. So hopefully nothing will get any worse.

I knitted a mitten last night. I like the wrong side as much as the right. Will do the second this morning. They don't take long. 42 sts and 18cms long.

GMS will you be going up the street when the Cambridge's are in Cambridge?

Lawn boys due this morning. Bob knows the routine and wasn't even interested in going out this morning. They often bring their german shepherd with them.

That's one reason Kuaka why I wont dye wool just yet. Theres soo much I want to do and I don't want UFOS hanging around.

Have a good day everyone

That's a lovely idea to knit Thistle gloves popeye, I'm sure she will love them.

There was quite a long list of 'dos and don'ts' for meeting the Royal couple, some things I couldn't believe people would do or say!

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Yup up early since we have to go spend the morning at the med centre. MrPs first podiatry appointment. So hopefully that will go well.

Overcast here and warmish.

I did a box knot scarf yesterday as well as my second mitten. And have started another scarf which I will take with us this morning.

Hope everyone has a good day.. Happy Knitting etc

Morning ladies, dentist for me this morning at 9.30, got a reminder text from them yesterday - just as well as I had it firmly in my mind that the appointment was 9.45. I will take the hot water bottle cover I'm doing for carolev - she said her granddaughter loved the mauve one so hopefully she will also love the pink one. I hope carolev is okay, not sick or in hospital. Strange we haven't heard from her in a while.

It's warmer here this morning, with light cloud cover, I expect it will clear to another lovely day. I think the last couple of weeks have been better than summer, when we seemed to have nothing but wind.

Sorry you're too tired to knit when you get home kiwimade. You'll have to make up for it when you've finished your two weeks at work.

Keep those needles busy ladies, and enjoy it.

Hello. Just reading through :)

*kauka* I saw the owl hot water bottle cover it was so well done and very special. I am certain the little girl loved it...my grandies sure did. CarolV sometimes leaves stuff at my place for her daughter to collect on her way home from work.

Yes *cleggy* that is the pattern I used.

I am thinking of going out and buying a blood pressure machine as Pasue can't really weight bear on his ankle. He must have hurt it on Friday when he fainted. Today is our 'homehelp day' so she will be here with him when I dash out It is clouding over somewhat though.

grandmasue1 - 2014-04-08 12:45:00
4292

I got my BP machine online GMS. Think it was off here. Its a wrist cuff one. The Chemist may have one to give you an idea of the size it goes too. incase Pasue has big wrists.

I went to the pantry to chose some wool to make some Mittens for Thistle. Fate intervened, there was a lovely shade of "Thistle" mauve, sitting there saying Knit Me Im the right one. And its wool too lol.

So Ive finished the multi coloured scarf I was doing and started a mitten.

Drs was a waste of time for me this morning. My BSL is 7.2 from a fasting HBA1c.. my bad cholesterol is excellent and my Good cholesterol is good but could be lower lol.. Exercise being my problem, but he did agree with me that until my head is in the right place no amount of encouragement will work.
And with all my painy bits its not easy to make things work .

What happened to Autumn? its more like a dull summers day today lol

Went to edit and it expired

Edited to say

Thistle would love bright colours, and I have the perfect one. Mauve one will go in the market storage bin for next year. if I don't keep them for myself lol

Oops nurse just rang with my INR.. 3.2 not good... That be two meals of roast hogget, one with beans and the salad I had yesterday. Test again on Friday.. Ill have to blame the lab lady, she said this morning You've been doing really well lately eh...lol

Oh dear it has rained all day - a very dull grey sort of rain too.

Hope your INR settles quickly Popeye but good re BSL.
GMS I have a good blood pressure machine that I got with my flybuy points, it's a regular upper arm one but very easy to use by yourself as all automatic.

I had to go and babysit a couple of children last evening who live out in the country with 7ks of unsealed road. It was certainly an interesting trip home again after 11pm in pitch black and slipping and sliding along the road in my little car. I probably made a record for time to get to the sealed road - the slowest time lol! The trouble is at night headlights shine straight ahead and not around the many quite tight corners. I didn't actually mind the drive as I knew I could go as slow as I liked and there would be no other traffic.
Anyway I was able to knit a beanie once the children were in bed, and no distraction of TV as they don't get it in the hills.

Still have quite a bit of sock wool to use up on beanies so looks like that's what I will be doing this week.
Have a good evening everyone

Well the dentist was very gentle (except on my bank balance!) Two x-rays and two fillings, $345 thank you very much, and when the numbness wore off this afternoon I realised that the filling which was missing, which was the reason I went, is still missing. I have an appointment next month for two more fillings so not sure if that is two AND the one I went for or two including the one I went for. Anyway I have an hour long appointment, but won't need the x-rays. Mr K nearly fainted when I told him how much it cost, and said, "cancel your next appointment, I've got some good pliers" that $15 a fortnight pay rise I just got on the pension isn't going to quite cover it.

Teas finished, time to knit.

Happy knitting.

My MrK's INR can be anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5, got a call from the docs saying it was 1.8. Since his cancer he just can't seem to stabilise it. Prior to the cancer it was a constant 2.5.

Almost finished the wee cardy for our grandy - sneaking in a few rows in the evening. Family has all gone home so house is very quiet!

Morning everyone

Great knitting Carole. Love the blue and gold.

Ouchies Kuaka re the dentist. Still worth it if you can hang onto your teeth eh.
My gums are horrendous this morning. Woke up Monday with one blocked sinus. Now its 2. Worst it has been for years. Mind you sitting in the med centre yesterday wouldn't have helped. Its soo hot in there a good breeding ground for bugs.
My INR has normally been great hovering between 2.3 and 2.8.. But greens really do it in sometimes. Does make it hard cos I enjoy salad in the summer but just cant have it too often. id eat it everyday otherwise.

Glad you had a lovely time with your Girls Kiwimade. Will be quiet now lol.

Misty rain here today. MrP is sitting in trackies and a cardy. Im in a sleeveless top and have the fan on lol.

Have a good day everyone... My needles will be flying today so I can post things tomorrow
