Great to be home again although thoroughly enjoyed y time away I'm pleased to be back in my own bed for a while.

Safe travels Kiwimade and enjoy your time with the little one.

Looking forward to seeing the jacket GMS it sounds a lovely color.

Managed a pair of socks, baby vest and 2 beanies while away but still had more wool as went well prepared but kept busy every day except Sunday which is very much a day of rest in Tonga - no outdoor work allowed.

Look after your hands Popeye - I think eyes and hands are most precious i think I would go batty if I couldn't read or knit.

Just did my first lot of dying wool in the microwave the house smells like a laundry with the hot wool smell. I'm obviously not an artist when it comes to colours but even if the end result is nothing like I envisaged I like it and can't wait to see how it looks knitted up. Trouble is despite best intentions I now have 3 UFOs again so must get them finished first, and unfortunately I suppose I had better do things like the lawns and garden and not just knitting :)

Ohh me too Jayemtoo... I would simply shrivel up and die if I couldn't read or knit.
Its still a bit tender but Im massaging and keeping it warm. Such a silly thing to do tho.
Froze more beans this morning, these self sown beans have produced more than intentionally planted ones. So Ive been throwing the ones that have gone too big to eat on the ground. Hopefully they will grow next year.

MrP picked the blackberries when I went to the shop this morning. Just a small pick today 350 grms. Will make it into a couple of jars of jelly tomorrow.
Have postponed his haircut till tomorrow since Ive been on my feet a lot this morning.

I am SOOOO tempted to try dying some yarn. I have on purposely not looked up the instructions. I see tho that people are using the microwave or crockpot.
But Im going to be strong and not look, just yet lol

A friend is coming around later, with a couple of things she has printed off for me.

I sewed 18 buttons on today so now have 5 more finished projects. Will do photo's tomorrow as am off to bed.

Pasue is much better and has his whistle back. Son-in-law took him for a drive yesterday in our old Pontiac....an this afternoon Son and family came over for afternoon tea. He has sold his small business and it becomes finalised tomorrow although he has to put in another week with the new owner. He felt that after 24 years he needed a change so is job hunting. He has decided he would rather somebody paid him a wage especially on public holidays and it will be great to have a decent holiday as hasn't had even 1 whole week off in 24 years.

Morning everyone.

Wow GMS that's a lot of fiddly sewing. I wont say I dislike sewing on buttons, but its not my fave part lol.
Wow your son wont know himself being a worker rather than Boss. Hope he find a good position.
MrP used to constantly whistle, and until you said about Pasue whistling I hadn't realised that MrP doesn't anymore. Probably hasn't for ages and I haven't noticed lol.
MrP would be green with envy if I mentioned you have a Pontiac, he loves classic cars.
I started a BowKnot scarf last night. One for a friend down the line and Ill do one for a lovely lady who often stops to chat when shes walking her dog. Im guessing she would be in her early 80's and is a lovely lady. Like the ones Kuaka sells on here. I thought they would be perfect for these two ladies.
Ill get back to the sock lol. Want to get these scarves done first. They wont take long tho. Just a couple of days, depending on how busy I get.

Hope Kiwimade is getting loads of cuddles. Has Carole gone MIA?

Thanks for the thoughts grandmasue - sadly Mr K is feeling quite poorly again today having had another fall yesterday, and we'd had such a lovely day yesterday, went to the waterfront and had a walk then sat in the sun, came home sat in the sun some more (ignoring the weeds which need pulling) next thing as I'm dishing up the tea he ends up sprawled across the floor. Ambulance guys were brilliant but he refused to go to hosp and is okay today (we've been out again) but he's feeling a bit fragile. Just as well I'm not a nervous person by nature or I'd be a blithering wreck by now, as it is I'm only feeling mildly stressed, and thank heaven for knitting is all I can say.

Lovely knitting GMS... Love the owls too, Ive never seen a pinecone cut in half like that.
When I was young I cut little bits of fabric, put some stuffing into them and shoved them into the gaps on a pinecone. Making a multi-coloured pin cushion. I was the only one I knew who finished one.. That's my methodical nature and patience I guess.
Kuaka not good to hear about MrK falling. Wont do your bp any good either... Hope he starts feelling better soon. How long till the specialist sees him now?

And I reckon, knitting keeps us all sane I think

Hospital appt on 14th April. Think I might try and get him to the gp tomorrow, keep wondering if maybe he had a mini stroke yesterday - he's had them before and he was quite confused when I found him on the floor. Ambo guys knew exactly how to get him back on his feet, and seeing as I have a bad back from struggling to lift him before I'm pleased I got them, otherwise I'd be in agony now.

That's true grandmasue, although being the "independent" type, we always hate to call them, which was why when he did his "batman" trip at the end of Jan and I asked if I should call the ambulance and he said "yes" I knew that he knew it was serious and he didn't move a muscle while he waited, but that was two months ago and the collar he is wearing is driving him nuts. Now he's feeling sorry for himself and wishing he wasn't "stuffing my life up" as he calls it. I just want him to get better so we can finally get away on our holiday. Just have to be patient a bit longer I guess. As I said before, thank heaven for knitting or I would go nuts.

Good Morning.
I am thinking of putting up the Cowl /Hoodie I have knitted on trademe but not sure where to put it. As it doesn't seem to fit into a category. I think I will put it under clothing. I knitted it for my daughter but she has now said she would like one but knitted in Possum Merino and will pay for the wool.
Looks like being a sunny day her and getting warm. I have a group of Bible College students coming around to wash our outside windows later today :)

SO......We will let the sunshine in and face it with a grin :)

"Kuaka" all I can send you and the mister is hugs .......Each day my Mr. faces new realisations of how dependant he is becoming.....sometimes it makes him real grumpy. Also I find myself praying for grace and mercy as I have to do things for him that I struggle to do, if roles were reversed I am sure that I would be the grumpy one chafing at the bit to regain total independence.
I gues this is why my son towed my clothesline away and has never returned it .

Kuaka I know where you at with MrK saying he is stuffing your life up. MrP has been telling me for the last 10 years since he broke his vertebrae that I should leave him and have a life. He also gets grumpy with his pain.

Maybe us Gals remember our vows better than they do. They are still themselves just not as mobile as they want to be.

GMS Im glad your son took the temptation away... That's another thing us gals have over the men too. more stubborn determination to try and do what we really know we shouldn't.

Ive done two of the Bow knot scarves now. Very pleased with both of them. pics will be on fb soon.

Ive gone back to the sock I was knitting. Touch wood I haven't made any mistakes so far. Im now doing the bit between the heel and toe now.. So hopefully it will all go well.
Hope he will be able to wear them, cos he has had several surgeries in the arch of his foot, underneath. So hopefully the seam wont bother that.

We're back - daughter and granddaughter came home with me for a week and ommggg the Furry One was more excited to see our grandy than me! Was quite miffed! Had a wonderful few days baby sitting and being a nana and even taught my daughter to crochet. She is quite chuffed with herself and can now confidently crochet squares and crooked circles! Got some crochet done, no cross stitch though - had to compete for my yarn with a three month old kitten lol. All good fun.

Sorry to hear about your MrK Kuaka, men eh! Hope everyone is well and knitting lots!

morning ladies :) Our wee grandy and daughter are still sound asleep, was a huge day for them both with play/mothers group in the morning, then a four hour drive in the afternoon.

Have started a wee shrug for our granddaughter, bought some yarn on special in Whanganui lol, has a very pretty colourway of pink, into light pink, then dark, then purple.

Welcome home Kiwimade,
I do hope Mr Kuaka is coming right again.
Blackberry jelly sounds Yum Popeye but don't envy you having to reboil it as it is such a sticky job.
I found a sweet chestnut tree in the park so brought some home and spent yesterday afternoon cooking and peeling them (now have a burnt thumb to teach me to be more careful next time!) Now I have to find out what to actually do with them, there are plenty of ideas online so will give one or two of them a go.
Have knitted one lot of my dyed wool into a small vest just need to get some buttons for it now and have started on a little jersey with the other lot. Was surprised at how much brighter the colours became once microwaved. Now want to get more wool to do some more!

Ouchies Jayemtoo, Ive never eaten chestnut's, MrP used to when a boy.

The jelly wasn't too bad to re boil. But I could actually turn the jar upside down and shake it and it didn't come out lol...But I gave it 10 mins boiling and added a wee bit of lemon juice. It tastes devine. Lost half a jar in the boiling. So there was just a smidgeon left to try at lunchtime.

Have finished the first sock. I thought it looked huge, but it fits him well.. now have to do the second one lol.. Hope its not like when I first started doing booties and one would end up bigger than the other. lol... I did use my head tho and wrote down how many rows for the length etc. So they should be the same.
No muck ups on the shaping Yayay lol

I want to try dying wool, oneday but not at the mo lol

Mr K is in a much better mood today thank goodness. I started the morning by going to see the vampire nurse, even though I didn't sleep well and was still awake at 3.30am. At least when I did get to sleep I slept till just after 9. Came home and had breakfast then went to the knit and natter session. Sold a pair of gloves to one of the ladies there, so that made it worthwhile. Then I came home and got Mr K and we went down to the waterfront for a walk, didn't sit on the bench as it was a bit windy, but we sat in the truck and watched for quite a while.

Going to do some pruning this afternoon then knit before tea.

Not good you had a crappy sleep. But you have managed to do plenty on little sleep.
That's good re selling the gloves. I sold a hat and scarf set in hospital while waiting for my heart surgery lol.

Have just covered the jelly. Its very Yummy. I like to add a little lemon juice to help set it but also cos I like the kick tang at the end.

I will get around to dyeing some wool, just not right now. I haven't even tried my looms yet. I have some white and or cream pure wool Ill dye eventually. Which way do you people prefer? the microwave or crockpot?

Still overcast but no rain yet.

I have done some knitting today but this afternoon has just been so busy with our grandy. The Furry One is amazing with her and brings her his toys to play with - have never seen him do that before. He is just smitten with this new family addition lol. Will get some more knitting done later but for now I'm just enjoying the squeals as the Furry One 'pushes' her on her swing. (Under complete supervision of course!)

popeye, I've only done one lot so far and I used the microwave. It's a fascinating process and I really enjoyed it.

I hadn't intended to sell the gloves (well not there anyway - was going to list them on here) but a friend asked if I had a pattern for fingerless gloves and I tried to explain how easy they are to make, so today I took the pattern along (and gave it to her) and showed her a pair of gloves and the lady sitting the other side of me asked if I sell them, and of course I said yes, she asked how much - $20 so she immediately got her purse out and gave me the money. I said "oh you can't have them yet, I haven't finished sewing the seam". So I did that (luckily I had a needle with me) and she sat there with them on for the rest of the session. She was thrilled to bits. Apparently she goes swimming and wanted them to warm her hands up when she gets out of the sea.

Kiwimade, make the most of your time with the family, the cross stitch and knitting will still be there when they've gone home. I bet the camera is working overtime.

Went to skeinz this am and they have naked sock wool so was naughty and brought a couple of lots to dye. I use the microwave and food colorings that way you can make varigated and multi coloured wools.
but must be strong and not do any dying until I have finished at least 2 UFOs!

I try to keep up but usually have 2 or 3 things on the go at a time, this is partly so I have something easy to take out with me and something which just needs final finishing off when I have a few spare minutes and then the main one that I am working on at the time.

I brought a large box of ripe banana's yesterday for $5. I have given away or eaten about 20 banana's and so far made 6 banana cakes and still have enough for about 6 more cakes but have run out of butter and sugar.
Just iced some of todays and will freeze some and give some away. I prefer not to Ice those destined for the freezer.
Just abandoned some knitting for now as the wool was making a blister on my thumb and they were big needles so have started a baby hoodie.
Softer wool and smaller needles.
I think I am about to have a power snooze :)

Ouchies re the blister. Ive decided I don't like knitting thick wool. Not that id tell MrP that since I just got a set of big needles lol..

Ive just got everything ready to make two pies for tea. Bacon and egg for MrP and Im having a potato and sausage pie and ill spread vegemite on the pastry too. First time for making it. but I figure Ill like it. lol.

About halfway down the second sock. I weighed the first one and it took 52 grams, and I only have 49 left for the second one. so Im doing four rows less on the leg. And maybe 2 short on the foot if I think Ill need it. As MrP said no one will see it, once its in his slippers and under his jeans lol.

Why Oh Why did I sign up to get news letters full of knitting patterns lol... I have soo much I want to do lol

morning ladies - where is everyone?

I agree that the bananas were a really good buy - also agree that I don't like knitting with wool any thicker than 8ply, but I'm about to start making myself a pair of slippers which are done using two strands of 8ply but I shall only do about 10 or 12 rows at a time, otherwise my wrists get too sore.

When I came up the stairs this morning after getting the Herald off the driveway I noticed the perfect place to wind wool into big hanks for dyeing. At the top of the stairs are two posts that I can wind the wool around and it will give lovely big hanks so that I can dye the wool with bigger pieces of colour (if you follow me, probably not explaining it very well) because the first lot I dyed I loved the colouring but thought that when I started to knit it, the result was more mottled when I wanted more gradual colour changes. I have one ball of wool to experiment with before attacking another batch. Might not do it today but I'll do it soon.

Meantime I've started a 10 stitch zig zag blanket for myself. The first strip consists of two rows. Increase on the first stitch, decrease on the last stitch, and then knit one row. Repeat 9 times, then do the knit row first followed by the shaping row. To start with I went wrong and unpicked the first two rows 3 times. Got to 8 completed zig-zags and realised that back at zig-zag 3 I had managed to only do 8 repeats, so had to pull it all back. Grrrr. I suppose it can only get better.

Great job with the bananas GMS - love banana cake.
Yes 8 ply is quite thick enough to knit with but like you Kuaka I have to do thicker for slippers as I felt them and the best wearing ones have been double 10ply or 3 strands of 8 ply done on very big needles.

Know what you mean about needing long hanks for dying as did my first batch last week and the final effect is definitely mottled. I've got some sock wool and 8ply to dye now and want to do black and red socks so need to find black food colouring it will be interesting to see how that works.

I think I will avoid signing up for patterns as I spend far too much time on line as it is just browsing what is available and getting too many ideas which would probably keep me going for at least 50 years!

Ive finished sewing one section of my blanket. And have pinned up the top row. I figure if I get them done I can ease the three other strips in where needed.
Unfortunatly Bobcat likes to sit with me while I sit at the table and sew. Today he got cheeky and grabbed my little finger as I reached down to pat his head. Cheeky b*gger, had to stop till the bleeding had stopped lol.

Picked some more beans this morning.. should be one more pick I think, no more flowers and the vines are dying off. Much the same with the blackberries. They are drying up too quickly.
Must make some more jelly and Jam too, MrP loves it although is good at not having it too often. And My brother wants some so Ill get a stash made before I tell him to visit.
Havent knitted this morning. Was finally looking at three cookbooks I got at the school gala last month. Ohh lots of yummy things lol.

Hi kuaka Came across to say hi. Good hear Mr k and you have been on outings to waterfront.Sounds like he on the mend. All the best to you both with his next apointment at the hospital.
Blanket sounds great! Just hope it for you to use.
Re skeining wool....you can wind it around two dinning room chairs. This way you can make skeins any size. Only thing to remember is you have to have a flat surface to lay the skein on while you paint the sections.
What dyes are using?

sunflowers - thanks for your kind thoughts, just over a week till his hospital appointment. I'm just using food colouring - the sort you would use to colour icing on cakes. Yes, I've used the dining chairs before but I just spied the two posts at the top of the stairs and thought they would be perfect, which they are, except after a few turns the ball of wool rolled down the stairs, onto the landing, turned the corner and went down the next lot of stairs, so I had to flip the hank over because the wool was under the hank and I needed it over the hank so I could wind, and then I ended up doing it the opposite way to how I'd started. Never mind, only one ball so it didn't take long. I can't decide whether to dye it now, or just sit and knit. Decisions. Last time I did it out on the deck and it looks a bit like rain. I hope it rains, the garden certainly needs it.

MrP tells me we had rain through the night... I cant hear it so can only tell if I see it or wet ground lol. The fog came down late here today.

Definatly could do with some more rain tho.

Ive picked out some more wool for Bow neck Scarves. Im about 4 rows off the heel on the second sock and don't want to be doing that at night time while Coro is on. So will do a scarf instead. And do the heel tomorrow.
To be honest while I am pleased Ive done all the shaping for the first time and no mistakes. I don't see me doing too many more pairs. Just not my thing really.
Might change once I get to my looms lol

Tea is sorted so an easy night for me.

I had a bit of a muddly day that involved calling an ambulance after husband collapsed and they rang the fire brigade to help lift him. Luckily for us all when I redesigned our bathroom toilet area I had the doors hanging outward or we would have been in a real pickle. Once they got him resettled in his chair it was decided to let him rest and I took him to the med centre to see pur own GP. His Blood Pressure is too low so his meds have been tweeked a little. and he now needs to drink 4 litres a day...that is a huge amount of fluid. We know for a fact that his bladder has been known to hold 7 litres.

I did get about 10 rows of knitting done and will possibly do some more tonight.

Thanks grandmasue 1 found the wee pebble pattern, it was the other one with the little caplet sleeve as in your photo (trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserv-
er/full/310816613.jpg) that I was after, daughters friend is having a baby girl and want to knit one of those for her.

oh grandmasue I hope pasue is soon back to normal. I hate having to call the ambulance but sometimes it's a real relief when they arrive. I know I was absolutely beside myself waiting for them to arrive at the end of January when Mr K had his fall.

We've had some really good rain this evening, the gardens will be loving it. The rain held off long enough for me to do this:

Ohh Kuaka that wool is cool. Going to look lovely knitted up. The darker bit is it mauve or grey? either way it will look nice tho.

I knitted a scarf while watching Coro in bed.. Well nearly a scarf, Ive done too long a piece in the middle so stopped. Ill undo about 10-15 rows and then finish it off. Was pushing it for wool too so it will help.
But Ill go back to the sock this morning.

Woke up terribly sore this morning, cooler sleeping means I sleep in one spot too long. Ill hang the washing out but the floor can wait.

Must check the paper, tomorrow is the 38th Annual Sand to mud race in town. The roads are blocked up enough now with road works. But when the race hits town it will be worse. So if I have to Ill go to supermarket today instead of tomorrow.
The race is 8kms long and they run from Kariotahi which is the west coast beach here, up the huge coastal hill into town. Our dr will be running in it Im assuming. he does a lot of running.

popeye - the dark bit is grey, I tried using black food colouring, but obviously didn't use enough to make it black, but that's okay 'cos I didn't really want it black-black if you know what I mean.

I read in the free local paper yesterday that we are going to have the tsunami warning alarm testing tomorrow so it will be interesting to see if we can hear it. They reckon they do it every two years but I don't recall hearing it before. Then at the end of the month a large motel building is being demolished and we've had a letter from the police explaining that they are going to be carrying out explosives exercises and will also be running around with firearms but we're not to be alarmed as the firearms will only be using paint balls. That is supposed to take place over two days from 2pm to 10pm, so looks like I'll have to keep puss indoors. Don't think she'll like the explosives. The place is just down the road so might be quite loud.

I've just been naughty and bought 10 balls of wool on here - I did say I wouldn't buy any until after March, and it is after March, so apart from the stuff I bought at skeinz a couple of weeks ago (most of which I've used) I've been very good.

Staying home today, not decided what to do, might even frighten the house and do some cleaning. Better not do too much or grumps might go into shock.
