Morning all. Me too, kind of got used to the old names, can't think of who is who with our real names.
Haven't done any more of the binding, just too hot last night to have the quilt over my knee watching TV. Don't think I will get any done today, have a few things to do. Could put the quilt on the table I suppose but can't see TV then not that there is anything but rubbish and repeats on at the moment.
Keep meaning to ask you all has anyone read the Elm Creek Quilt novels? They are what started me quilting in the first place. They are wonderful, you feel like you are there.

Good morning ladies. Haven't been on the thread since Friday and its all your fault!!!!! lol The Twilight Express trip to Northern Ireland has had me on the computer almost nonstop since. You see after all these years of not finding much info on family etc, now found a fabulous site on Belfast. Gotten photos of places I used to visit, people that shared my interests when young. Boy I've had a ball, gotten enthused enough to put together a historical scrapbook for the Grandkids. Love the shortened names, I don't mind being Beryl or bhs just don't call me too early in the morning. Must dash appointment in 15 minutes.

Those fat 1/8's are really good buying but I have promised myself not to buy anymore fabric. Honestly, and I am not joking, I probably have enought fabric to make about 10 quilts. Plus I have 2 quilt tops finished ready to quilt but have to get them sandwiched first, one is a lovely Grandmothers Garden 30's quilt, took me most of last year as all made by hand and want to quilt it by hand so think I will leave it as my winter project and the other have made for friend in the UK as she has just retired to a cottage in Norfolk. Has been hard hard as don't know what her colour scheme is and want it be a surprise. Camera needs batteries so will post some pics as soon as I have remembered to get some.

Sorry Liz, meant to comment you being the baby of the group (I think). I didn't start quilting until two years ago so think what you will achieve by the time you are my age. How did you jam turn out, did it set OK as you didn't cook the fruit properly first, should be OK as apricot is usually trouble free jam. Might make some myself, Foodtown have them for $4.95 kg this week.

Honest answers please as to what i should move or take off or just throw the lot back in the stash pile ;)

That looks good Coalie, I really like the blend of colours which look really good together. But what happened to those other lovely panels you had? Aren't you going to use them now? Are they the same size as what 4 of the smaller squares are would make? If so why not put one in each corner.
Grief will be sorry you asked I always make a comment.

franny8 - 2010-01-18 16:10:00
4177

Sorry, just had another look, I wouldn't make the outside white border that wide, the same size as the square blocks are I think would look better and the darker fabric with the cottonreels on looks better on the border than the light one - now you are sorry you asked aren't you.

sorry coalie i would agree with fran, take the white away, and use another colour, and put one small pic in each corner

My lovely husband has just been up and got me some batteries for the camera as I kept forgetting to get some. Got some rechareable so no excuse now.
The first pic is the 30's quilt which I am making for our bed, and am going to make some cushions as well both for the bed and the cane chair in the corner. The second pic is the one for my friend in the UK, have tried to incorporate lots of colours which go together so hopefully it will fit in with her colour scheme. Also I feel quite pleased with myself as it was made entirely from my stash and leftover fabrics from other projects but have bought the backing fabric. It was really easy too and fast once I had the blocks cut.

is this better ? Twilight i cant loose the white border part, it breaks the space between squares and binding, have made it smaller like Franny told me ( she also told me that yesterday and finally i have listened ooops )
:)

coalrange1 - 2010-01-18 17:36:00
4184

sorry me again do you think the white around the center pic should be narrower ?

coalrange1 - 2010-01-18 17:44:00
4185

yes thats great, yes make the border around the picture narrower too

twilight23 - 2010-01-18 18:04:00
4186

Yes looks really good now Coalie, really like those panels in the corners. I think you've got it but yes I do think the white centre sashing does need to be narrower, only problem is if you do this it is going to throw out the other square blocks fitting around the sides. Let me have a little think about, husband shouting dinner is ready so will have a think and come back after dinner but don't move anything in the meantime.

wat about make the white smaller then add a narrow sashing around that then it will fit in,or
take away the white and replace it with that litte fawn colour you have there,

twilight23 - 2010-01-18 18:34:00
4189

That is exactly what I was going to say Twilight. I would make it white 1/3 white and 2/3 the cotton reel fabric, that would tie it in better as you have a narrower white and a wider cotton reel on the outside. Sorry Twi I wouldn't use the fawn as I think it might pull the whole thing down, if you know what I mean, and I think the white just gives it a lift. Or if it looks too busy with the cotton reels next to the outer squares you could divide it into 3 - white, cotton reel, white.

yeah it's come out ok, i'm not raving over it as it's not a thick as i normally like it, but it still tastes great. I know where i went wrong too, i added too much water because i put the sugar in with the fruit. Usually only add 1/2c to stop the fruit sticking while i cook it down to mush. Got 14.5 jars from our 4.5kg apricots (3.8kg of fruit went in the pot... not bad for stone fruit). Have plum jam coming up in a month or 2. I find it easier as i dont bother stoning the plums first and only use 1/2 sugar to fruit as i like it tart!! Dropped 2 jars across to my lovely neighbour along with her big stockpot i had to borrow...
