sigh... forgot that Hubby has tomorrow off work, quilting list on tuesday then... Must get on to Hubby about getting the kitchen cleaned up... I have a 4kg bucket of "second" apricots i got at the markets for $6 today that have Jam written all over them... sunripened too sooo sweet and yummy (I LOVE places that still let you taste test the fruit before you buy it) and thankfully a 5kg bag of sugar i bought on special before Christmas. Wonder how many jars i will get... I LOVE home made jam, our plum tree is coming ripe too so will be doing plum jam soon as well

Franny do you mean like this - obviously nothings in right places or anything and they are just sitting on saching fabric but is this how you mean.

Hi Coalrange, no I didn't mean like that but I think it looks better that way, just not sure about the light sashing, might be a bit busy. I know you had a darker one with the cotton reels on it but that might be a bit busy too. Sorry just think you might need something plainer. Have a look at the following which is one I did ages ago and while this quilt is nothing like yours it might just give you an idea what I meant about the sashing.

Hi Chrissy, this was my first quilt, that is why it is all different blocks, its a sampler quilt.
My name is Robyn but all my friends call me Rob so please call me Rob.
Liz, You are so lucky to live where the apricots grow, they are quite expensive in Auckland, I bought some yesterday to stew and they were $6.98 a kg in the fruit shop and saw some in Foodtown this morning and they were $7.95. Apricot jam is my absolute favourite, maybe you will send me some!

Have any of you tried 'Te Horo' jam its delicious :) its made in a little town next to us and is in jars like the anathoth. Like the anathoth used to be it is made with 100 % nz fruit, each batch individually hand made using traditional methods and recipes. Its so yummy, we get it from new world, woolworths dont have it. but its worth trying. Tastes like homemade :)

The anathoth jam used to be nice when it was a family owned business but they sold it, now you have no idea where the fruit comes from. It hasnt got the flavour it used to have :(

No... why use the expensive unnecessary stuff?? I always just use what's cheapest (in this case a 5kg bag of chelsea white from my store cupboard) + fruit, little bit of water, old jam jars and the little cellophane seals with rubber bands... nothing else needed... except i had to steal my neighbours big stock pot as the fruit alone was tooo much for mine little 10L one...

liz_taylor - 2010-01-17 22:09:00
4144

Yes I wondered about that new jam as well. Thought it might have pectin already added as some fruits like strawberries don't set well when making jam and you have to add pectin. I usually only make plum as next door neighbour has the biggest plum tree in the world. Used to make marmalade a lot but no trees since we downsized when we retired. Oh, now you will all know I am an oldie but I still feel 21 on the inside, shame about the outside!
Signing off now, night, night all.

Lol, i'm holding the title for actual youngest (i think) at 22... in saying that i've been making jam and helping make jam since i was 10...
