I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
4051

morning :) wow kuaka, lol, you would think so too! It's a bit like saying I don't have shoes to go wear when you have sooo many in the wardrobe lol.

I used my buttons in the classroom for maths lol... sorting colours, the amount of holes in the buttons, shape, size, grouping for multiplication, fractions, percentages and so on. Worked great and kids love hands on stuff - they can 'see' the problem, solve it, then write it down as a mathematical problem. Was especially useful as I was setting up a classroom and had to find a lot of my own equipment.

Housework today and that includes windows - damed flies. Hopefully it will be the last of the them until next summer. Garden is slowing down, I've cut back everything I can and am now waiting for a couple of plants to die down so I can split them up. I have some autum crocus bulbs looking for a new home so might advertise them here or if anyone wants some, contact me through the FB pages (Probably breaking a gazillion TM rules here... ooppppssss!)

Will get some stitching done today - made it to the bottom left corner! Will try and pick up Maddy's wee cardy again today, just can't get 'into' it. Must get it finished - my goal this year was to have no unfinished items and I can see this wee cardy is heading that way.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
I haven't looked back, what colour buttons are you after Kuaka?
I sat with mine last night trying to find 3 for the top down matinee jacket I just finished. Ill put pics on FB, cos I cant do it here. Its the wool with multi colours in the flecks, but I went through all the colours and only green looked any good.
Ive always loved playing in buttons. Mum used to have one of those little suitcases full. I loved sinking my hands into it, same with marbles in a jar too.
Ive decided its time I knitted something for boys now. Not that I have many patterns, but Ill find something that doesn't require a circular needle. Wont be as "pretty" as girlee stuff but if Im going to have a stall Ill have to have both lol And I have plenty of boy colours.

Have a good day everyone

popeye it's okay now, I wanted two small blue buttons for a top down jacket and am going to use clear ones instead. I found one perfect blue one but needed two. For the owl hot water bottle cover I wanted two and found three the perfect colour but there was one small, one medium and one large! Carolev is going to send me a couple for that. It is always the same with zips, I had bags full and never had the right one, in the end I sent most of them to the op shop.

Not feeling very lively this morning, I slept for nearly two hours in the chair last night then went to bed early (well before midnight which is early for me) then couldn't sleep, was awake nearly all night and feel rubbish this morning. I would still be in bed only his nibbs wanted the paper to read and couldn't go down the stairs and driveway to get it. He brought me a cup of tea in bed though.

Might waterblast the little front deck today, then do the edges of the owl hottie cover.

Have a great day everyone. Happy knitting.

I need to send my buttons to school with *kiwimade* actually I might get my youngest grandson 6 onto the task. He likes repetitive stuff and sorting.
Thanks to him we have 6 pink coathangers hooked around the lounge as someone told him the colour pink will protect from tornado's. This is his latest obsession....it used to be fans. There is also a pink hanger on Pasues walker to protect him as he can't get under the table :)
My Mum used to knit coathanger covers so I have a good supply. :)

I did start another babies jacket but suddenly decided the wool was too rough.

morning girls . I have about 12 inches left to go on blanket and run out of green wool you would not believe it had a bad night so sat up knitting, well busy day got to cut down our giant impassaent so the old air con can come out and new one can go in, well have had our new pussies a week today ones settled in well others still under the bed, off to hang out washing

Morning
love the tornado protectors GMS - was practicing earthquakes with niece 4 this week and must admit getting under a table isn't as easy with a wonky hip so wonder what colour coathanger I will need lol.

Miscalculated the amount of wool I needed for 2 items and brought quite a lot of pale pink wool at skeinz sale recently so am onto my 4th pink cardy and have enough for at least 2 more. Oh well have several small girls around who's mums won't complain. Will need to get a bit of blue as nephew's wife has just had a little boy. I agree with you Popeye there just does not seem to be the same interesting patterns for little boys.

Happy knitting

morning ladies :) awwww bless GMS, what a kind wee boy your grandson is. If he likes repetitive stuff, then sorting buttons is the job for him! As for earthquake drills, oh what fun lol but the kids knew exactly what to do which is awesome!

ooohhhh air con will be great for this winter carole :) And puss will come round eventually and I bet she will turn into the smoochiest of the two!

I've done that before jayemtoo lol, when I made the camel coloured throw for our living room I had waaayyy too much left over but there was enough to knit two more lol.

Boy's patterns do seem to be pretty plain compared to the pretty girly things - maybe we need to be adventurous and make our own :P

Will get a bit of knitting done today, working on the corner of my stitching - kinda obsessed with getting it finished as I know if I stop, it will be a very long time before I pick it up again lol.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. Ohh Carole not good re running out of the green.... Gosh the week has gone fast re Cats. Im sure the other one will come around in time.
Love the idea of the tornadoes GMS. What a lovely boy.
Years ago I was baby sitting a friends granddaughter and the ground started rolling. We looked out the window to see if it was the trucks at the bakery, noo, so I took her to stand in the doorway and told her about earthquakes. She wasn't scared at all. I happened to glance at the mantelpiece and there was some cut glass ornaments that I knew had been passed down. I decided the granddaughter was far more important. Thankfully they didn't fall either.
Got home later to find that my grandmothers clock which used to sit on a cover over the motor in our motor home had fallen over onto the gear lever. smashed. MrP said the bus was fair rolling cos it was facing the way the roll was going. And he didn't have time to grab the clock. I was just glad we were all safe. Was a big gentle roll. Good learning point for Bonnie tho.
Am to the armhole of the back of a wee jumper. Its what I call double moss stitch or double mucked up ribbing. A nice wee pattern. I managed to find two. Im enjoying this one tho. And I will probably make more, just in different colours.
Have a good day everyone

morning :) awesome you found enough wool to finish carole, it looks lovely. Poor Annie, hope she perks up.

It is so dry outside, the paddocks and hills are brown. MrK is threatening to put the hose on a patch of grass in the paddock so the sheep can have something green. They aren't our sheep but we just feel so sorry for them - thank goodness they have been shorn now. The shearer takes the fleece as payment and I don't know what he does with the fleeces.

Should get the main bit of this wee cardy done today, have really lost interest in it and need to motivate myself to get it finished.

Happy knitting :)

The blanket is really great Carole.
Know how you feel Kiwimade re having an item that just doesn't inspire you, have a boy's vest on the go which I'm just not enjoying just have the armholes and neck to do so must finish it soon but have a little cardy on the go as well.

Cooler overcast day but doesn't really look like rain which we also need badly will have to get some water on the veg today.

The birds have eaten nearly all the grapes they find the smallest gap in the net and go for it - oh well I guess their need is as great as ours lol!

Morning everyone.
Blanket looks great Carole... Hope Annie improves. Too much of the good life eh.
Kiwimade I know what you mean about putting a hose in the paddock. We wanted to do the same when we lived at Orere.
Yesterday wasn't a good day for someones moods. He even said himself hes turning into his father, I laughed and said Ive thought that for ages, but never said it cos he would roar like a bull.
When not well he would rather pick a fight and storm off to bed, than admit he isn't well and needs to go to bed.
Im halfway to the armhole on the front. I don't knit well when he is moody

Hmm Bob has just come in licking his chops, wonder if he is eating somewhere else. It wouldn't surprise me.

off to the shop this morning, then Ill put a roast of beef in the crockpot.. YUMMM Ive waited soo long to have it. I wait till I cant stand the waiting any longer, then I enjoy it more. lol

Gloomy and dark here, not sure if we are in for rain or not.

Best check the news see if they have found that plane or not

Have a good day

the birds are eating our tomatoes jayemtoo, I suspect it's because it has been so dry here and the tomatoes have some moisture... and they are yummy lol. Must remember to put some water out for them but the Furry One chases the birds off. If I keep the sheep's water topped up, the sparrows line up around the rim of the tub and drink. Should try and get a pic of them doing that. Even the flies line up around the Furry One's water bowl and drink. Suppose even flies need water.

Been stitching this morning.. I know.... I should be knitting lol. Just want to get the border done for this bit then I can start filling in the picture.

Right-o... got washing to hang out and beans to give to our nieghbour.

Happy knitting :)

Afternoon ladies, I hope everyone has had a good day so far. Here's a pic of what I did yesterday:

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/307794776.jpg

and one of what I did today:

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/307794925.jpg

Guess which one I enjoyed doing most? Turning the cream wool into multi-coloured wool was much more fun than waterblasting the carport and the start of the driveway - and thinking about how much more waterblasting still needs doing is making me feel tired without actually doing it.

I was going to do more waterblasting today but I said to his nibbs that I didn't feel like doing it so he said well don't do it. I didn't need telling twice.

Happy knitting everyone.

haha kuaka, my MrK says the same thing if I say I don't want to do anything :P. I love your wool, do you have something in mind for it?

I've run out of yarn for this wee cardy just when I was on a roll... I knew I should have bought an extra ball! Arrggg.... should follow my gut instinct.

kiwimade64 - 2014-03-09 21:45:00
4071

no, kiwimade, it was just bugging me that it was pure wool, cream, and I'd had it for a long time (can't actually remember what I bought it for now) so I figured that if I stuffed it up it wouldn't really matter. Not even sure what ply it is, looks about 5ply I think. Probably not machine washable (don't think they had machine washable that long ago) so this was really just an experiment, my first attempt. Might make it up as a 10 stitch blanket or maybe crochet it as a blanket seeing as I think it's less than double knit.

I always buy more wool than I think I'll need - nothing worse than running out - probably why my stash continues to grow all the time.

I suppose tomorrow I'll be back on the end of the water blaster. I'm really looking forward to that - I can't wait. I shall go to bed soon and dream about it and tell myself I'm all excited. (I'm not a very good liar so I won't believe myself)

Night all.

morning all. love the wool kuaka , started a jumper for a grandchild yesterday, not sure on with colours yet. we had a brakethought with chleo yesterday saw her 5 times , she was sitting in the sun on the window sill. and then up on the dolls shelve . she had sent 1 of the walkie talkies flyingans moved other things. well they took out the old air con yesterday and put in glass in the window , the new glass is clean and makes the rest of the windows look dirty, they are cutting down the pole today, I listed the old aircon on TM

carolev - 2014-03-10 07:11:00
4073

morning :) I ended up washing the outside windows yesterday as with the dust and dirt blown from the onion paddocks you could hardly see through them! I disturbed an ants nest and the little buggars can bite! So today I need to find out how to get rid of them.

Good news about your puss, she just needed time to adjust carole. Hopefully today she will be a bit bolder.

I think I have temporarily solved my run-out-of-yarn problem lol.... need to unpick a sleeve as I made a mistake with the lace pattern. Sooooo obvious lol. Oh well... this cardy is just doomed to go on and on and on and on....

kiwimade64 - 2014-03-10 08:16:00

Morning ladies, just as I was about to go to bed last night I realised that I had stuffed the roast chicken that we had for tea last night but had forgotten to serve any stuffing. Then this morning I discovered that the front door had been unlocked all night as I had planned to go down and do more waterblasting then didn't. Oh dear - didn't tell his nibbs about the front door or he would have thrown a tanty.

I suppose I will have to continue with the waterblasting today but at the moment there is no wind so I might spray some weeds first. That will depend on the wind at the time I'm ready to do it and I need to have breakfast and do some washing first.

This afternoon I plan to relax and knit. Not sure what yet, might start a blanket - I'd like to do a double spiral 10 stitch one, but I think I will need to check that both yarns I want to use work to the same tension before I start it. I hate doing tension squares, but I think I will have to for this project, at least I can do the two colours together.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone...
The lawn boys are here already lol.... Argggh soo loud for first thing lol... Now I know what our customers went through lol
Love your wool Kuaka. Oneday Im going to try my hand at that. will look lovely as a blanket.
Glad Chloe is setting in, I feel she will end up the bossy one.

I always buy extra wool too. But cos of the toys I don't mind if the stash grows.
I finished the front last night with its gaping big square gap in the front lol. Im really enjoying it.
Have decided after this jumper Ill do some of Miss Ugly, then back to the baby stuff.
I was looking at patterns for little boys stuff last night, found some nice things including a top down like the other matinee jackets.
Gosh why these guys don't lower the revs on the lawn mower I don't know. Theres no need to have them roaring their heads off. They still mow on lower revs lol... Noisy lol

Lol re the front door and tanty Kuaka, it would be the same here. Its ok for him if he leaves the keys in the car, but if I did it, id never hear the end of it. It has happened once, and I never mentioned it lol

Have a good day everyone...

carolev - 2014-03-11 06:47:00

morning all, I had a good night, just not long enough, been awake since just after 5 and up since just before 6 - haven't done anything constructive yet though.

carolev if you google "dye wool using food colour" there's a very good video on youtube. Basically you soak the wool in water and white vinegar, then squeeze most of the water out, then put some gladwrap down and put the wool on that, sprinkle, or pour the liquid food dye onto the wool, wrap it in the gladwrap and zap it in the microwave for a few minutes, then rinse it out in water with a bit of dish washing liquid. It's easy and good fun.

Going to do some more waterblasting this morning, and this afternoon I'm out for a while - going to my mah jong session but only for the first half of it.

Last night I managed to make contact with my very best friend who went to Germany to live a few years ago and we had lost contact, but recently a third party (a German lady) managed to track my friend down, and so last night I phoned her and we had a really long chat. It was lovely. I'm so pleased to be back in touch with her. The internet is an amazing thing. Couldn't have done it without help though as I had tried and tried and failed.

Right, another cup of tea and then I'm going to do some knitting before I tackle anything else.

Happy knitting everyone.

morning ladies :) Oooohhhh lovely kuaka! That is just so neat! Amazing isn't it what can be done online - I saw the internet celebrated it's 25th birthday yesterday too. My kids have grown up with it!

Windows to do... I've procrastinated long enough and I can't stand them any longer. The outsides are done, just the inside to do. Will start them after my coffee and before the sun hits them.

Will get some more stitching done today and more navy onto my blanket squares. Need to get it finished now as daughter will be staying for a week soon and April will be a bit chillier.

Good to hear the pusses are doing fine carole, not good you aren't feeling too well.

Happy knitting :)

Morning all..
Foggy here I love it,... Mad I know but it makes it feel like home.

My windows are terrible, but Im waiting till I can get my Karcher window vac thingee. I do home scanning for AC Neilsen and earn points , these points can be used for vouchers or a $100 pressie card. That's what Im 90 points away from the pressie card, plus I have $30 coming from smile city. so that basically pays for the bulk of the karcher. And to be honest my eyes are sensitive to the light so in the summer I don't mind if the windows have a natural "filter" of dirt on them lol.

Hope you feel better soon Carol.

Dying the wool sounds like fun Kuaka... Im going to Try and get MrP to set up the waterblaster for me. We have a narrow footpath from the front door to car that needs doing before winter. I enjoy doing it, love playing in water lol
HAve to go pay for the warrant today.... and post a pattern if I can get it all printed out ok... Otherwise Ill have to put it on a usb stick thingee and go to the library and hope I can print it there. So cross all ya fingers ladies lol

Did 1 1/2 sleeves yesterday. so have to finish the second one and then the collars to knit on this little jumper.

Have a good day everyone

Afternoon all,
the wool looks great Kuaka, that is on my to do list as well, I have some cream 4ply ready to use but the list of other knitting needs to be reduced first. Am knitting a side buttoning vest for a new baby boy, seem to have a lot of girls things in my stash but not boys and then have to do a couple of bigger vests and jerseys for nephews before winter sets in.

I ignore windows if I can but the lower afternoon sun is starting to show them up lately, well they can stay that way until I get back from next trip in a couple of weeks.

tried a crochet beanie yesterday but just reinforced why I prefer knitting, it turned out prem. size, will give crochet another go at some stage as would like to develop that skill a bit more but don't think it will ever take over from knitting for me.

morning ladies :) Wonder where Lucy is? Hopefully she will turn up hungry and wanting a cuddle. She may have been locked in someone's garage by mistake.

Lawns to mow today, haven't mowed them for three weeks but now they look really scruffy. MrK has his follow up appointment from when he was in hospital a few weeks ago. He's a box of fluffys now but always good to have it all confirmed.

Right, I'm off to buy some petrol for the mower then outside before the day gets too hot.

Happy knitting :)

On a slow go today, Could have easily stayed in bed. which is rare for me.

Lucy is being norty, hope she simply wanders in and says Whats Up?

Think its going to be a warm one. Our lawn had b*gger all on for them to mow on Monday.
We will go out and pick the blackberries and beans soon.

Lol Daisygirl, Im always looking at wool, even on here. But I really cant get any at the mo. Will be like Christmas when it all arrives.

Right Ill check everything else and get out before the sun hits the beans

Have a good day

I woke up really tired too popeye and didn't want to get out of bed. My back (which has been sore for weeks, months even) is worse today - I could easily have turned over and gone back to sleep. His nibbs brought me a cup of tea in bed and I got up very reluctantly after I'd drunk it, and he is now sitting reading the spots off the Herald because I went downstairs and got it for him. I don't think I will be doing any waterblasting today. I've still got about a third of the driveway to do then I can call it quits for a while.

Going to knit and natter today (sounds so much nicer than stitch and bitch) but haven't decided what to take with me to do. It will have to be something "no think" or I will stuff it up, 'cos not only is my body weary, my brain seems to be having a flat battery day as well.

I hope everyone has a super day and squeezes in some knitting time.

morning :) Don't kids grow fast carole!

Finished Maddy's wee cardy and posted pics on our FB page. Am really happy with it now. Was worth unpicking the sleeve. Almost finished the crochet blanket, thought I needed another 'strip' of squares but was measuring it on our queen sized bed, not the double -duh! lol. So I just have to do an edging and it will be done. Have enough squares left over to make a blanket for the portable cot too.

Housework today and we have a group of friends coming for a pot luck type dinner tonight.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Arghh its taken 20 mins to get a page to work on here.

Will have a looky at your cardy soon Kiwimade.

Ive finished the little jumper. but not 100% sure how the back of the collar works, never done a cross over one, so Im going to take it up the road and ask a knitter I know in supermarket. If she cant help Ill go to the oppy theres bound to be a knitter there. And they will have all the ladies out the back today. also want to take a bag of blackberries to one of the ladies. Picked a kilo yesterday.

Hope your making some scones for the air con men Carole.

Will go now want to risk fb lol

So far looks like being a lovely day today I have a pile of rubbish to take to the dump so hope to get that done today before the weather changes.

Saw Maddy's cardy on FB and it is really gorgeous.

Popeye - feel for you about trying to get a page to work on here I can't understand it but at times for some reason there is no way I can post a message on here when I do the same thing every time I log on. It's ok this am so hope you have no more problems with it.

Off to mow the lawns before the weekend weather comes - won't say it out loud but actually I'm secretly looking forward to a wet weekend so can get knitting done.

I am expecting family this afternoon and want to have a go at making chocolate eclairs for my dad's birthday tea over the weekend. I've never made them before so here goes lol.

I've started the edging around the blanket but it was just so hot yesterday I put it down, even with it beside me on the couch it was hot. Will have another go today and just pick away at it.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone

Attempt number three to get the pages to work.

Yes we need the rain too. The hills are brown and dusty.

Finished the blue jumper yesterday. And started the Ugly doll which Im calling Her Majesty now... Have done one leg. Kept it in black. Only as thick as my thumb on the leg with a weird foot on the bottom lol.

MrP still blah today..Hes still in bed.

When Ive done Her Majesty Im going to start putting my blanket together. Hopefully will be cool enough. I have to do it on the table so that will make it cooler anyway.

Hope you feel better today Carole

HAve a good day all

choc eclairs are easy to make, I've done heaps of them over the years, it's scones I can't make to save myself (nor bread come to that).

Looks like it's going to be a good crafting day or so. I don't feel bad about sitting around knitting when it's chucking it down, although I do need to do a bit of a tidy up. A friend called in to see me yesterday, I hadn't been out of bed long, hadn't done the dishes, there was a pile of washing waiting to be folded, a pile of ironing waiting to be done, and a heap of knitting projects and wool sitting beside my chair. Hers is a house where there is never a speck of dust or a thing out of place. I suppose once I have the place tidy nobody will visit.

Happy knitting everyone
