Very Pretty Carole. Think mines a brother. If I had room Id have industrial machines in preference, especially with the overlocker

morning ladies :) Wow it is cold this morning, has that chilly autumnal feel. Am going to do a tidy up in the garden, time to cut back some plants, not hard work but satisfying all the same.

Will get some more stitching done this afternoon and maybe dig out something to knit for our grandy.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Isnt it lovely being nice and cool... I feel a bit more refreshed.

I tried last night to sit and watch tv without knitting. Just to see if I could.

Epic fail lol I managed an hour and couldn't stand it any longer lol.

Finished the back of the cardy and started the front. its soo pretty. Going to the patchwork shop this morning. To see if they have any buttons for the tunic and two cardies. I didn't have a good look when I went last week, just aimed for the red and that was it. So Im taking some time out and going to have a good nosey, on my own without MrP sitting waiting in the car which means I wont have to rush. Yay.

Might even cook a decent meal today too lol...

Gosh CHCH is copping it eh... The tornado certainly did some damage.

Have a great day everyone

Sooo nice Carole. How long is one side now?

Well Im going to change and go attack the patchwork shop

popeye333 - 2014-02-24 08:59:00
3959

popeye, I didn't know Chch had suffered a tornado. When was that?

Certainly cool here this morning, I ended up not using the water blaster yesterday as I decided the wind was too cool and today doesn't look very promising either. Never mind. There's no hurry. I did several loads of washing yesterday and got it all dry and today I might do the ironing.

I've printed off the pattern for the lovely little top down baby cardi and might do a couple for charity.

About two thirds of my beans are up - I can see them from where I'm sitting. If the others don't show up I'll have to put some more in. I wonder what happens to them. Maybe the worms eat them, or they just rot. Also need to prepare another patch and put some more in. Maybe today - maybe not. See how I feel once I'm "humanised" (which means 3 cups of tea, and I'm only on my second - Mr K brought me a cup of tea in bed this morning, I was absolutely dead to the world, I never even heard him struggle out of bed).

I suppose I should get some breakfast before we keel over from hunger (not very likely).

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning
Lovely to be home again but had a real fun weekend. The round the bays was great did it in under 50mins and only 3mins behind niece -and she is half my age but to be fair she has 2 babies to look after the youngest only 4 months old.
The blanket looks good Carole, have to get some more things into the garden too.
No knitting at all yesterday so need to do extra today -good excuse anyway. Have a nice day all

jayemtoo - 2014-02-24 10:51:00

Some time yesterday Kuaka. Its been on the news this morning , they had a hail storm too. Probably on the TVNZ website.

You did well Jayemtoo.. Well done. Ive never been a sports person, apart from I loved swimming. I used to wonder why I never kept up with everyone. But learnt when I had my heart stuff happen that that was why.

Went to the patchwork shop. Got some crimson smiley faces for the tunic, some wee daisy type buttons for the two cardies I will be making. And some red and white ones for future projects cos they were only 10 cents each. So I don't need to go to spotlight on Thursday. And if I did Id only be spending money for the sake of it.

I miss having lots of veges from the garden but neither of us can do it now. Id love raised gardens but not here. Cos I don't plan on staying here forever. We grow scarlet runners cos no bending to pick them. But if I had raised gardens id grow dwarf ones, cos no bending then either lol. Beans are my fave vege.

Have fun with the needles

popeye333 - 2014-02-24 12:27:00
3962

haha popeye - I don't have to bend to pick our scarlet runners, I have to climb a step ladder right to the top and then stretch some. We planted them at the top of a bank thinking they would grow towards the sun (ie - away from the bank) but did they? Noooooooo, the flipping things produce most of the beans (when they do produce that is) towering over the bank, so there's a stepladder up the bank to the bottom of the bean frame and then I have to stretch and balance from there. Methinks I'll change it if the gardening ever becomes my sole responsibility.

I've been sitting out on the deck knitting, now going to have a cuppa and embroider some "chocolate hail" onto my latest tea cosy.

Iam sitting watching tv and knitting and a lovely cool breeze is blowing through and cooling my feet,oh so nice.Did a small amount of repotting this morning.will water my front garden soon.

Just finished a hat to go with one of the toddlers jackets I had finished. Also did some other knitting but have had a real tummy problem today....sounds like a truck with its exhaust brakes on . I enjoyed my 2 days away and did no knitting, but now it is back too reality.

morning I hate sleepless night but I did do a lot of my blanket , no breakfast off for blood tests, then home to sew. well took 4 machines into shop yesterday and all 4 needed to go to the repair man. I am sending back that new over locker and going to buy a brother one, should not have bought another brand. my boys made it feel unwelcome

carolev - 2014-02-25 06:48:00
3966

morning ladies :) funny how we like our own brands, my sewing machine is a Janome and I love it. Our daughter will be having it next month as she will use it more than me.

Have a few jobs to do around town today, need to get moving before the day gets too hot.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-25 08:00:00
3967

Morning everyone.
Glad you had a nice time away GMS.

It is funny how we have our own fave brands. My machine is a Janome New Home. Ive had it wow 20 years now and I still love it.It was secondhand when I got it. My overlocker we got about 18 months ago maybe a bit less and that's a brother. My sil wont have anything but a bernina.

Have got to cut the mans hair this morning then Ill do the same to the roses lol. If it stays fine long enough.
Its lovely and cool. I feel refreshed. Now if what ever is in the air and getting into my lungs would go away Id be happy lol.

Finished the first front and up to the armhole on the second front. It has the most unorganised decreasing Ive ever seen in a pattern. I didn't think the front would end up as long as the back at all. But it got there.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-02-25 08:41:00

this over locker is janome and I hate it, going to buy a brother soon

carolev - 2014-02-25 10:49:00

This pattern just gets stranger... I had a looky at the bands.

The stitches are picked up around, not weird yet.
Then you stocking stitch some rows, do buttons holes.. getting strange.
Then you carry on and do more buttons holes.. Strange now
Then stocking stitch again. Even more strange.

Then you fold it and catch it back. And then sew the button holes together.

WEIRD.!!!!!

Ive never seen a band done in stocking stitch, never seen a double thickness band and You can bet your life I wont be doing that way and have to sew buttons holes in two layers together.

Totally off ya head.

Ill just do a ribbing band... a Normal one.

Has anyone done a band like that before?

popeye333 - 2014-02-25 12:22:00
3970

not in stocking stitch but I've seen double buttonholes (ie. ones that need to be sewn together - pita)

kuaka - 2014-02-25 13:35:00
3971

not stockingstitch, but like kuaka have done double buttonholes - a real pain to do. NEVER again lol.

Have done quite a lot of double s/s bands - personally, I think they look very neat. Must confess though, I did most of them on my knitting machine! Shame I don't have a knitting machine any longer - I do miss it.

tinybaldone - 2014-02-25 14:25:00
3973

Another thought - if you like the look of the s/s bands but don't want the trouble of buttonholes, leave them out. When you've finished the band, when you turn it over to double, pop in some backing fabric - e.g. vilene or similar, then use snaps instead of buttons. The fabric will stop the snaps from pulling through the knitting. It also makes it easier to space the snaps evenly.

tinybaldone - 2014-02-25 14:40:00
3974

It just looks strange to me lol.. The pattern that is. you cant really tell from the picture.
Ill just do a normal ribbing band. Im not going to pick up stitches etc.. Ill knit the band and sew it on.
Wish mum had kept her knitting machine. Id be having a ball with it.

popeye333 - 2014-02-25 15:53:00
3975

good idea tinybaldone :) That sounds much better than making the button holes!

morning all. well the 3 month experiment it did proved health shops know as much as GP's , The Dr at hospital said to get some things from the health shop and I took it for 3 months and it lowered my blood sugars and colstrol . so Dr said it did not work so stopped taking it and my sugars and colstrol have gone back up. so today I told the stuff again, well had a good nights sleep so not much knitting go done, sewing class today and the other teacher is not coming coss she fell and hurt herself badly so knowing my luck lots will turn up.

carolev - 2014-02-26 07:13:00
3977

morning ladies :) Some doctors just aren't open to alternative ideas carole :(

Need to get some horse poo today to repot a large pot I have neglected over summer.... will try to resurrect the plant. And while I'm out and about, I'll pick up MrK's script from the chemist. We are halfway to our 20 'scripts all ready! Missed out on renewing his 'scripts just before the cut off date in spite of me reminding everyone here lol... but he was in hospital so guess I had other priorities.

Got some more navy wool yesterday - not the same brand as what I have been using as it had all been sold out but it's close enough in shade for a blanket. I also bought some 4ply bamboo yarn to knit our grandy a cardy, have never knitted bamboo before so this should be interesting. Will also get some stitching done today.

happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, the cool wind seems to have dropped so maybe today will be hot for a change. Yesterday I did a stack of ironing while I watched the chimney sweep do his thing on the wood fire, then I decided it was time to continue the waterblasting of the deck so that I can finish staining it before the weather turns to rubbish. Today I've got to zap to town to check the mail and do a few little errands and will also call in for a coffee at the knit and natter. I didn't go last week 'cos the weather was awful. I'm so looking forward to Mr K being back to normal so that we can carry on and do the things we usually do. I'm missing my weekly "mah jong" sessions. Maybe next week I'll go along for the first half and come home at afternoon tea time. We'll see.

But I'd better get cracking as I want to get to town reasonably early, I believe the Queen Mary is in today so there will be a market and town will be busy.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone. Loving this cooler weather.
Our new DR is always open to any suggestions, and without sounding smug (yes Im skiting Lol) Im pretty sure I solved the dermatitis mess. Im sure it was the over load of the amitriptyline. Its back to normal now, so will see what the skin team say tomorrow.
Lol Kiwimade at the prescriptions.

Not that Im complaining but I think MrP read my mind the other day. The last two mornings he has got up and got breakfast stuff out, made his own coffee . Which gives me time to get myself sorted when Im at my creakiest.
Its been lovely.

Tomorrow will be a very early start. Have to be at the clinic at 8-30. That's a normal 35 min drive. But it will be peak hour traffic so Ill allow an hour.

Am to the armhole on one of the sleeves so I should be able to get that and maybe the other one day today.
Sorted my wool out a bit yesterday.. Much better now..

Ohh wow have you seen some of the stashes the ladies have on FB.. I thought I was pretty bad lol

Have a good day everyone

Morning all
Back to normal again I think after the very busy weekend I had. Although I thoroughly enjoyed round the bays I don't think my knees and hip were quite so keen and have been telling me so for the past 48 hours. Should have started 20 years ago.

Kiwimade you remind me that when we were young if a horse went past our place mum would make us kids go out with a bucket to get the dung - terribly embarrassing then but now I would be first in line lol.

Finished a little top yesterday and have started another this morning while reading the papers on line.

Have a happy knitting day all

lol jayemtoo, with all the horse studs around here we are really lucky to get the horse poo. I suppose it solves a problem for everyone, we get great manure and saves the studs having to worry about it. It also gets rid of their feed bags (which are useful around the garden too for us).

I have seen all the stashes popeye and mine pales in comparison lol. Mind you, I have been going flat tack to reduce my wool stash. It's all my school stuff that takes up space!

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-26 10:03:00
3982

Morning everyone. Im first for the day.. That's odd lol

Up early cos we go to the clinic this morning. he didn't want to go last night, but is ok this morning .
Half a sleeve to go on the cardy. I wont take it with me tho. Might take my scarf that has been sitting in the office for weeks lol.

Have a good day everyone

morning another rough night loo every 2 hours and I started back on that olive leaf extracted for blood sugars and still took same amount of insulin and had lows all night, mental note to myself to take less insulin at bed time. on 3rd side of 9th round of blankie, off shopping when I wake up . I am going to spotlight to buy wool and fabric, have a nice day

carolev - 2014-02-27 06:54:00
3984

morning ladies :) Was given some plants last evening so I'll plant them this morning. It's our 'turn' to have the hose on today so that will be on full bore. MrK wants to find out of water restrictions apply to us as we are on bore water, not town supply so I'll phone the council this morning - or he can do that lol.

Got some clothes for the Op shop to take in this morning and a few other bits and pieces to do.

Might get a cardy started for our grandy, will get some stitching done too. Did a bit more on the blanket. The navy is quite different when you see it against the original navy... oh well... it's only a blanket :).

happy knitting :)

water restriction only aply to town water surplys

carolev - 2014-02-27 09:03:00
3986

Morning
Just finished a little cardy - somehow I had all sorts of problems with this one - dropped stitches, misread pattern, unexpected twists in wool and knitting (don't ask I have no idea how that happened!) undid bits of it several times. It is a simple pattern but obviously I was concentrating properly glad to see the end of it. Now nearly finished another top and no problems at all.

It's incredible Kiwimade how many shades there can be of what we think is just a basic color, hope the blanket comes out ok.

So far this year we haven't had water restrictions which is good but the lawns have kept growing all summer lol

jayemtoo - 2014-02-27 10:33:00
3987

Home already.. didn't need to do big exams. Its age/heart related dermatitis. Cos hes older the heart doesn't work as good for getting the blood back up out of the legs, and cos they swell it pushes the blood to the top of the skin and it erupts. His legs will stay the tanned pinky look, which he doesn't mind cos it looks like hes been in the sun and strangley looks healthy lol.
Stopped at two oppies on the way home and got buttons. Bows, hippos and teddy bears. and some other blue and orange ones. And an old pattern for a red riding hood type jacket. Its in dk and blackberry stitch. Ill be doing it for Addy I think. Spent $5 on the buttons and its probably nearly $20 worth from a shop lol.
Was very good and didn't go to spotlight, theres a big school garage sale I want to support on sat instead.

Jayemtoo Ive kept mucking this cardy up Im doing too. The decreasing is all over the place. And last night I was dropping stitches too. Didn't take any knitting with me this morning. Half a sleeve and bands to do.

Have a good afternoon everyone

popeye333 - 2014-02-27 12:08:00
3988

OMG so it's not just me! It must be 'dropsy' time for us all as I've been dropping stitches as well! Started a wee cardy for our grandy and I've unpicked it several times. Anyone would think I couldn't read a pattern grrrrr.... the bamboo yarn I'm knitting is 'slippy' and slips off my needles easier than yarn or wool so I wonder if that is why I'm dropping stitches. So frustrating. But it is lovely when knitted so worth sticking with.

The navy isn't tooooo bad, it could be worse. If I was knitting a garment with it I would be disappointed but seeing as it's a blanket I'm not going to stress over it. It is a much better quality than the original yarn so swings and roundabouts :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-27 12:52:00
3989

I haven't tried the bamboo yarn yet, glad to hear it knits up nice. Yep re the Blue Yarn sometimes it just doesn't matter too much eh.
I was sooo pleased to get the cute buttons this morning .

This red riding hood jacket has a lined hood too, so it should sit nice.

I should get off here and get this last bit of sleeve done.. Need the motivation lol

3990

Got 3 grandkids in my lounge so the knitting is out of the way. Anyway I dished them some icecream and now my hands are sticky.
Mr 7 tells me that it is so hot that when he jumped in the school pool steam came off him :)
WE are lucky that we have quite a cool house with good airflow..

grandmasue1 - 2014-02-27 15:51:00
3991

popeye - I've been looking at the potato ricers on here, some only have holes in the bottom, some have them around the sides as well. What's yours like. I can imagine the ones with holes round the sides, you could get in quite a mess using it - or is that not so?

Mr K is in the wars again. He got up in the night to spend a penny, and barefoot managed to walk into his walking stick and has cracked/broken/bruised (well it's definitely bruised,it's purple) his middle toe. As if he hasn't got enough to contend with. Course I laughed only to be told "it's not funny" and so I laughed some more. Sorry, no sympathy.

I've been busy waterblasting today. I was going to mow the lawn but we had a shower this morning so the lawn was too wet. Tomorrow with a bit of luck I'll finish waterblasting the deck then I can finish staining it.

I managed to do that little top-down baby top and went wrong on the third row and had to unpick it. Wasn't wearing my glasses and repeated the buttonhole right across the flipping row thinking it was the first row of holes. I think the buttonholes should be worked on the other side, so that it does up right over left, especially seeing as I knitted a pink one. Don't suppose the baby will mind.

Right, tea is on (in the oven) so I'm going to relax and do some knitting.

Enjoy the rest of your day ladies.

morning girls. well 1/2 of last side on round 9 to go then round 10 and finish . nice looking day outside, staying home today so might gets some work done, went to spotlight and spent up large, well might be increseing our family tomorrow with 2 putty tats.

carolev - 2014-02-28 07:33:00
3994

morning ladies :) I can sympathise with your MrK kuaka, I've kicked my little toe quite a few times and it really does hurt! My Mrk just laughs too!

We were out at a BBQ last night and came home to the phone ringing. MrK's family had been trying to call us all evening (forgot my mobile!) His sister's husband is in an induced coma due to seizures. Today they are hoping to take him off the ventilator and are thinking he will pass away. Very sad for MrK as he has been friends with him since high school and he was best man at our wedding.

So it's a quiet MrK this morning.

Housework today, have some more plants to plant (shouldn't have gone to the Warehouse lol) and some knitting or stitching.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-28 08:13:00
3995

oh carolev how exciting, if you do get new putty tats I hope they settle in better than the last one did. (sorry I missed your call last night, I was fast asleep in the chair with the lappy balanced on my lap). Almost missed my call from my sister in the UK as the phone beside me rang but wouldn't answer when I picked it up so I had to drag myself out of the chair and answer the one in the office.

Very still here this morning, no wind, should spray some weeds but I bet by the time I'm organised the wind will have got up and I don't want the spray going on anything but the weeds.

Hoping to finish waterblasting the deck today and then once it's properly dry I can complete the staining which I was busy with before Christmas and do some more knitting, then I'll do a set of owl eyes ready for a project for someone special (she'll know who she is when she reads this)

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.
We had fog this morning. its lifting now. I like fog lol.

Ouchies on the kicked toes.

Hope the Cats settle in better Carole... sometimes I wish we could get a kitten but I know Bob would hate having to share me. he hates it if MrP takes my time. When his legs were peeling Id sit on the bed and peel him , and Bob would get up and complain, What about Me.

Finished the last sleeve last night. A lot of ends to sew in, should have used the magic knot but I didn't. Then Ill do the band.
Oh better ring the chemist for some insulin..

Have blackeberries to pick this morning too before it gets too hot.

Oh Kuaka the potato ricer I have does have holes on the side. And yes last night I had potato everywhere lol. But I think its cos I was tired and just not concentrating.

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2014-02-28 08:47:00
3997

mmmm that's what I was thinking popeye, might try for one with just holes in the bottom, especially seeing as I've got a serious case of "ducks disease" and the bench in the kitchen is higher than standard height, so I might struggle a bit to use it without making a mess.

kuaka - 2014-02-28 09:07:00
3998

Morning - so far pleasant heat wise but threatening to get to about 28 today. Washing done but not much else as been working on a bit of knitting.

Thoughts to Mr Kiwimade - always sad when losing a friend especially a life long one.

Off to pick up a petrol drum to use for garden rubbish, saw that the local mower shop was giving them away so couldn't let that bargain go by especially as old one is full of holes.
Also need to get to supermarket at some stage as getting rather low on things in the pantry. Not my most favourite past time so put it off until almost run out this time.

Have a good day everyone
