Gutter Pairs With the Year of The Rat items due out soon...Does anyone know if the gutter pairs are available pre done in packets at the local Post Office ?

Or do we need to ask staff to carefully tear some for us.

I was was just trying to remember if last years Gutter Pairs were in Hang-Sell format or not.
I'll have to wait and find out on Feb 7th. *dreads the queue* cheers from willy.

The Vandals knew what they wanted in the 5th C I would say it would be better to keep them in identifiable positional blocks. Especially for errors, but it is your sheet.

Were stamps used as payment for phone calls? I guess that is what I have, lots of stamps on telephone exchange cards. Does this mean they are 'postal fiscal' (I think that is the term). Also I have 2 1882 2nd sideface stamps that are joined. They have advertising on the back but have been postmarked. The back of the stamps are not damaged at all so why would they be stamped?

Limited Edition Hi all... just looking for a bit of direction please... What would you suggest is the best way to approach selling my Limited Edition collection? Would I be better to list the full series as one auction, or individual books/years ... or go through a dealer or stamp auction? Thanks :)

And... could someone pls tell me what this is? I'm not sure what to put on the auction as I don't know what it is. Thanks for your help :)

thanks donaldo Yeah I figured as much... I have been collecting since I was a wee girl... cancelled my standing order this month, after having an active account for over 20 years with the philatelic bureau... nothing... nobody asked why?... anyway I digress... my collection fills a large chunk of the spare room and it's time to move it on. Thanks for your reply :)

Descriptions Once we always used to laugh at the colourful descriptions that some real estate agents used when selling houses. Traders on TM and other sites are getting to be just as colourful. I guess one of the most obvious is with Chalons. The margin is either complete or it is not. My definition of 'touching' is obviously very different to many traders. Just when does an off centre stamp become a desirable misplaced perf - it can be a fine line. It may be interesting to hear what you have noticed.

now theseare some cals that i could consider collecting, they look suspiciously like gummed ones to me, and if that the case, they could be the beginnings of a side collection.....

Hi zeph Some great Cal's you have found there. Yes Cal's do come as both self adhesive and gummed like the Tarapex ones you directed us to.
As long as they have that NZ Post logo in the colour strip down the right hand side they are a Label that is customized to advertise. (CAL ). They can be used in the NZ Postal system yet can not be bought at the Post Office, hence the controversy over them not really being a true philatelic item.

#357 Re 1893 Avertisement stamps In 1893 the Govt entered into a contract with Messers Miller,Truebridge & Reich giving them the right to utilize the backs of the 2nd sideface stamps for advertising purposes. These were done in 3 different settings and Different colours red, purple, brown, green ,black and variations of the above mentioned. Also in different Perfs. They are very collectible and some collectors try to reconstruct the Panes.60 stamps(adds)per pane 4 panes to the sheet.Regards Paul

CTO Just having a thought on CTO ( Cancelled to Order) versus postally used. I personally like stamps actually used in the postal service ( despite the odd blobby inked ones)but is there a difference in value as to how they have been franked ? Comments anyone...on what type you collect....

2004 John Walker 45c Has anyone studied the 2004 45c John Walker issue & noticed the huge variations in the picture section upwards and sideways ? There are also a narrow & a wider sizing in the picture section

388 nztrade Just had a look at my 45c sheet.
While static,John Walkers back shoe can show as..up or down on the stamps at random positions on the flat sheet.
It does not show 'uniformity of movement' in all the stamps
Is that what you mean ?
Although the other values are like that too,so maybe you are describing something else.
Mine all measure 32mm x30mm in the picture part. What are yours ?
wow, very nice item there tiadapal.

Fiscally used stamps Does anyone know if there is a general average % to go by when working out the CV of fiscally used stamps.

Items such as auction 139177804 would the CV, be say 10% of postally used ?

Or is that generalizing too much.

willy_hunt - 2008-02-07 22:40:00

Fiscally used The price he has given is obviously for postally used so not a very good guide.I have the Kiwi-Tasman 1999-2000 catalogue that has a good Fiscal section in it but sadly it is years out of date.I believe that the Dunedin Stamp Center has a Free? catalogue and may be of help.Fiscall Stamps are fascinating and can be very collectible eg papers ,perfs, printings, watermarks etc.Regards Paul.

Fiscal Prices. Using the Stirling cat these have a cat Value of $7.50 thats including the 5/- @.30c that is damaged and only to be used as toilet paper for Pygmies.(My opinion only). The guideline in the Stirling Cat (Kiwi-Tasman)is Quote!Unpunched Fiscally used 20% of Postally and Punched Fiscals are 10%.But beauty and collect ability are in the eyes of the beholder and until someone comes up with a new updated Catalogue you will and collectors like you will set the price.Regards Paul.

On the 2004 John Walker 45c The photo strip on most of these seems to be about 32mm wide. There are some around with a 30 mm strip and the D in New Zealand right over towards right perfs. There's also up to about a 2-4mm variation in where the New Zealand is vertically placed on some from near the bottom upwards & part of the design of the one under coming up into the bottom some examples

396 2004 Olympic stamps I had a look at some of my used stamps and do see a variation in the placement of the year 2004 and fern logo. Is this what you refer to nztrade? Could just be a different print run ?
