| Hi, jay. I was going to try knitting and reading simultaneously. Does it make your brain go nuts. Nice to see another knitwit. armin59 - 2013-01-25 11:41:00 |
| Most of the books on my kindle are free downloads from the pixelofink place and i have 288/3000 so lots of books to be found yet. I am collecting Nora Roberts ebooks whiskey13 - 2013-01-25 11:52:00 |

It pays to check with the particular airline you fly with as some do allow you to knit during the flight. I knitted and crocheted my way to Heathrow and back last time I went. Most websites say knitting needles are prohibited but Malaysia Airlines allowed them. kuaka - 2013-01-25 12:44:00 |
| I keep putting off buying an e- reader as I am still working my way not only through my own books, but my friends' books, and the three libraries my library card allows me to use! That should keep me a bit busy. I usually have several books on the go at once - keeping one on the coffee table, one by the bed, one in the car, one in the study, one in the sunroom etc etc. Does anyone else read that way? I do it because I am on crutches and it is too much faff to carry a bag at all times in order to be able to transport a book or anything else around. Like armin I seldom read fiction. I've got nothing against it, but there is so much to learn from "real world" reading that I begrudge the time you have to put into fiction to learn nothing much. Just as well we're not all made the same, eh? daleaway - 2013-01-25 12:55:00 |
| What a morning.. The Big upright 25 yr old freezer decided to stop over night. Not worth having it looked at. And have the jollie job of listing everything that was in there, taking photos etc for insurance. See you all later. Its gonna take a while popeye333 - 2013-01-25 13:29:00 |

| I reckon I would get a Kobo because that is what the library books systems use, isn't it? I can see me getting out more library books if I had an e-reader. Rather than buying them. That's rotten luck about the freezer, popeye. Happened to us when friends lent us a holiday home - we arrived to find that the previous occupant, their son, had turned off the electricity when leaving, and our first task was to dig a big hole in the paddock to bury the freezer contents - and air the house. The stench was amazing, as it had been locked up in Cenral Otago hot summer weather for a couple of weeks. So you are at least lucky that you discovered yours in time! daleaway - 2013-01-25 13:59:00 |
| We had to buy a new freezer last year. I lost all my frozen fruit and veges heartbreaking having to throw out ice cream containers of tomatoes, apricots, strawberries, raspberries. We just didn't have the time and space to cook everything up into jams and sauces at the time so out it all went. Freezers looking great now thou lol whiskey13 - 2013-01-25 14:20:00 |
| Have tranferred what can be saved. Am shipping out meat to friends and neighbours rather than see it be wasted. Ill just have to work hard to fill it again. popeye333 - 2013-01-25 16:12:00 |
| morning all, welcome back pats. Have a great day! nzmu - 2013-01-26 06:29:00 |
| Morning all, Yeah it was a kinda stressfull day yesterday. It didnt help that MrP was sick in the morning before we discovered the freezer. I didnt really unwind enough to knit till after tea. ( I dont normally get stressed). But I have knitted the sandcastle pole and flag so will put those on today. Then I have shells a crab ( I thought it was an octopus) a cockle in a bucket and a spade. Then he will be done. So I imagine a couple of days. popeye333 - 2013-01-26 08:35:00 |
| Ok, who did it this time?? Kindle books. Think I better get one. but if I get one then I will read too much and nothing will get done, even knitting.sigh, but its a neat idea :) Gosh, what a job popeye with that freezer. And thats why I only have the smallest freezer we can get, so I dont have to worry about a big one going off knowing my family. Its mainly for bread and milk and some frozen fruit when it all comes ready. Just thought Id mention too that the books I read, Helen McInnes and Evelyn Anthony are not the same style as Catherine Cookson, rather thay are detective style. I like them because they are fast moving and detailed reading. Must look into something like a kindle or is it kobe the other one? Cheers all. thyme49 - 2013-01-26 11:29:00 |
| Morning all (just) !! popeye hope you have a better day today. That's a shame what happened with y our freezer. I've been there a few years ago !! Up early and took the dog up to Victoria Park so she could run free. Don't feel comfortable enough to walk her on the lead yet as she pulls for about the first 5 minutes and I don't want her to do any damage to me after my operation. I think I should be right by Monday I reckon to take her on the lead. Have done some washing but apart from that have just faffed around. Must get going and do some housework :-( Have a godo day everyone. Edited by pats3 at 11:53 am, Sat 26 Jan pats3 - 2013-01-26 11:53:00 |
| Have had a super busy morning for me, but have acheived alot. Two loads of washing hung out, not good for my stuffed shoulder but its out. Recycles out, huge casserole cooked. Chicken soup base made. popeye333 - 2013-01-26 12:10:00 |
| knitted a baby's vest yesterday top down it is supposed to be on circular needle but had to use double pointed as didn't have right sized circular. Turned out well and was so quick to make and now itching to do a hooded jacket for the same little one. She is here on holiday with her parents from Italy so will be going back into winter. As you can imagine they are thoroughly enjoying having a bonus extra summer. jayemtoo - 2013-01-26 18:58:00 |
| I've never done top down but a friend gave me a pattern for something for a child that is top down - can't remember what it was now, lol. I intend trying it though. A hooded jacket will be lovely for her to take back to Italy jayemtoo. pats3 - 2013-01-26 20:40:00 |

It looks soo cute. And I knitted the 20 pieces for the shells. once they are on, thats the top done. Then I have the bucket of sand and cockle for his right hand and the spade for his left hand and crab for the left foot. Then Im done. I hope everyone has a fab day. Three fires here yesterday, one two doors away and one about 500 meters up the road, the other near the middle of town.. so please be carefull. popeye333 - 2013-01-27 08:30:00 |

| Sock wool is so cute for little one's knits. I have used it to knit V neck vests for nieces' small boys and they turned out very well. I haven't actually used it for socks yet but want to try that this year. jayemtoo - 2013-01-27 15:46:00 |
| My sil uses it for socks and they come out lovely. I might invest in a couple of balls in my next deramores order. And have a play with it. Its a huge advance on veragated wool thats for sure. popeye333 - 2013-01-27 15:58:00 |

| Love the blankets JB. The jersey pattern is from a Debbie Bliss book. At our knit group if we really like a pattern we ask the owner to knit it for us. Which doesn't mean to actually knit it more to make availabel the instructions for the admirer to knit it themselves. Do you get what I mean? We meet in a wool shop so you can't really talk about reproducing patterns. I will knit the jersey for you and post. E-mail me if you think I'm talking Mars talk. armin59 - 2013-01-27 16:24:00 |

| Morning All... Wow there are some very cleaver people in this thread. I had a very self indulgent day yesterday and sat and knitted and sewed all day. I put the shells together then attatched them. Fiddly little things but they look good. Knitted and made up the bucket and cockle. Thats attatched now. And knitted the parts for the spade. Then I only have 13 pieces left to do. A crab in a hat for his foot and a stick of candy rock for the pocket. Taken before I put the bucket on. 389 | Wilf is looking fantastic popeye. You must have so much patience. Your knitting looks great too. Only 13 out of 72 pieces to go - lol. I'm off to take the dog for a walk and then back to mow the lawn and a bit of gardening that has gotten away on my while I was away. pats3 - 2013-01-28 09:03:00 |
| jb what sort of edging do you put on your blankets? Last night it cooled down enough for me to pick up the needles and knit one rose to go on top of a tea cosy. I don't usually buy synthetic yarn, but I fell for its lovely colour. No more! It was so hard on the hands - did not "slide" at all, had no give in it, felt like rope and put a strain on my hands. daleaway - 2013-01-28 11:43:00 |

Oh dear, jbsouthland how could you put that blog up - grrr - I love tea cosies. Have only ever knitted one and that was back in November. I want to do more. Bought a book a couple of months ago and now I've put Loani Prior's book on my Wish List at Book Depository - yikes!! I just ordered a couple of books from them yesterday so will get this one in a couple of weeks. Those knitted trumpet flowers (free pattern) of hers look great too. Have downloaded the pattern. I better go back to the garden I think. :-) Edited by pats3 at 1:17 pm, Mon 28 Jan pats3 - 2013-01-28 13:15:00 |
| Inside having a rest from being outside in scorchio heat trying to cut down a purple sage that is worse than bamboo for spreading. A patch about 5 metres wide by more than 2 metres high! I just wanted to damage it enough and make it look so ugly that my DH would take over and finish the job - so I drove into it on my mobility scooter and started hacking and clipping like a thing possessed. Made a HUGE mess in no time. He's out there having a wonderful time demolishing the rest of it. Digging the roots out will be a SOAJ - see if you can guess what that stands for... I last looked into that fun teacosy blog a couple of months ago and she has put the trumpet flower pattern up since then - excellent, I will make those for sure. They'll look the business, tucked into some tea cosy posy. Thanks for the link again. My cosies are prettier (and dare I say it, more practical) than hers, but perhaps not quite as humorous. I don't think TM allows me to put photos up here or I would do so. daleaway - 2013-01-28 16:49:00 |
