| Homemade soft butter Can some one tell me - what number on this post is it?? rema - 2008-03-08 10:06:00 |
| doug 57 recipe for you SPREADABLE BUTTER: 500g soft real butter 200ml sunflower oil or olive oil The sunflower oil contains less cholesterol than olive oil. 200ml cold tap water Put the soft butter in a mixing bowl and mix till it is a soft consistency. Add slowly the oil mixing on a medium to high speed all the time. Then add the water and lower the speed otherwise it will splash around. After a while the water has emulsified with the butter and oil and you can get the speed up again. Store the spreadable butter in glass jars. kob - 2008-03-08 16:36:00 |

| I buy bags of bread rolls that are cheap cos they are 'yesterdays' & throw them in the freezer. When extras turn up to eat I turn them into garlic bread - all ways popular with teenagers & fills them up too! helen65018 - 2008-03-09 10:54:00 |
| I bought an old fashioned carpet sweeper in a garage sale the other day, and couldn't believe how well it worked on the carpet. My Nana had one, but Mum always thought them out of date. I must say that it doesn't do edges too well, but I'll look out for a better version with those little brushes at the edge. I suppose I will need to vaccum sometimes, but I'm hoping that the sweeper (cost $50) will help to cut the power bill. It does a pretty good job of the carpets, and I use a soft brush for the hard floor now. It's easier than a vaccum. Why didn't I think of it before? It's a great little gadget. cynder - 2008-03-09 12:06:00 |
| Re laundry mixture . I used to make a mixture for blankets and woollens. with meths and eucalyptus oil and lux flakes. Might try adding eucalyptus to Kob's mix as I love the smell project10 - 2008-03-10 23:42:00 |

| I have been reading this thread off and on for months now and it is fabulous. So I thought some one might help me out,I belong to simple savings but cant find the answer there. We have recently moved here to aus and they only sell baking powder in small expensive containers.Because I want to keep on baking I wondered if it was possible to make it myself and save some money. itsmineah - 2008-03-19 13:49:00 |
| I've read it before on the message board, but finally have got round to checking out other quotes to insure our house and contents. I have just halved our insurance and saved a massive $700.00 + per year. Feel so pleased with myself and gutted at the same time that we have been paying so much for so long. So to all those that put things like this off do it NOW!!!!!!! AND SAVE $$$$$$$$$$. Keep those money saving tips comming, love knobs laundry liquid. Jo jo302 - 2008-03-19 15:28:00 |

| #366.. Hi.. yes you can.. use baking soda and cream of tartar together. From the baking soda packet: To make one teaspoon of "baking powder' mix 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda, 1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar and 1/8 teaspoon of salt. Make the recipe as usual, substituting these.. juliewn - 2008-03-24 23:35:00 |
| ... and while I have the baking soda packet here .. 1) Use a Little dry baking soda on a damp cloth to clean sinks, benches, walls, tiles, etc.. in the kitchen and bathroom. 2) Rub a thick paste of equal quantities of baking soda and vinegar into bath stains to remove them. 3) To clean and deodorise your fridge, wipe it out with a solution of baking soda in warm water. 4) Mix equal amounts of baking soda, flour and vinegar to a paste. Coat stained surfaces of teapots and crockery, leave overnight and rinse off with boiling water. 5) Brighten up brass ware by soaking in a cupful of warm water containing a tablespoon of baking soda. juliewn - 2008-03-24 23:46:00 |
| ... 6) Deodorise rubbish bins, litter boxes, carpets, etc.. with dry baking soda. 7) Blackened grout between tiles can be cleaned with a paste of baking soda and water applied with a soft toothbrush. 8) For chapped hands, dissolve one teaspoon baking soda in one cup of warm water. Bathe hands and dry gently. 9) Have a refreshing bath by adding a few teaspoons of baking soda to the water. 10) Relieve minor skin irritations - eg.. insect bites, stings and sunburn, by applying a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water, to the affected area.11) Alleviate indigestion or heartburn by using 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water or fruit juice. juliewn - 2008-03-24 23:47:00 |

| for JO 302 thats great about your insurance another good tip is to look at your bank accounts as well cause so many account have huge fees and by changing the last 2 numbers on your account can sonetimes be a $30 savings, also if you have a bit of money in a savings account negotiate with your bank to give your the best deals around ....cause other banks do deals you know.........One more tip before I go get your hot water cylinder turned doen and it could save you 20-30 dollars per month, and set your power, phone etc as a direct payment into a bank account each week that way if you have a hard week on the bill paying week it has all been covered and wont be such a struggle kob - 2008-03-25 09:03:00 |
| I used to buy Hair dye similar to my own colour to cover odd greys and brighten my colour a bit. Now I just buy a shampoo for fair hair - gotta buy shampoo anyway, I just buy a cheap one and it highlights my hair really nicely, lightening some hairs and highlighting others, a very natural effect. I did try the lemon and peroxide suggested here but it didn't work on me. tumbleweeds2011 - 2008-03-25 19:00:00 |
| Gotta say ... have been using kob's laundry liquid for several months now and LOVE it -- have given 'samples' to friends along with the 'recipe' and now they're hooked too! Have used variety of essencial oils to fragrance and really like lemon - smeels fresh, clean and zesty. cnrstone - 2008-03-27 18:13:00 |

| Which insurance? Hi Jo.. are you able to tell us which insurance company was cheapest for you? kaylfrazer - 2008-03-30 11:49:00 |
| car insurance is another biggy so many of us insure our cars at a set amount say $20000 for a car but we must allow for depreciation, so what may have cost you $20000 5 years later isnt worth still paying for $20000 insuarnce so change your car insurance policy to allow for depreciation and you will save dollars kob - 2008-03-30 16:46:00 |
| Big fan of the washing liquid I have been making up the washing liquid for 3 months and I will never buy washing powder again. No more white spots in the coloured clothing, no more rashes on hubbys skin, no more worrying about running out of washing powder because now I just make more! I use Homebrand Prewash Stain Remover on stains before washing and am always rapt with the results. haydsandnena - 2008-03-31 19:07:00 |
| Kaylfrazer I went from a private broker to State insurance. I chose state as my car was already with them and by combining all the policies I get more discount. And fly buys is a bonus, even though its not a lot of points they do add up and I find it handy at christams time for a present or two. jo302 - 2008-04-03 07:39:00 |
| hi folk i understand that rice may become in short supply due to less coming into the country at present - not as much coming from china - so if on special maybe a good stock up, especially since spuds have not dropped at all this year so far. also sugar and flour are due to rise again. have gone back to making own bread so the breadmaker is getting a work out. cheaper than buying it. get those vege in for winter, prices are still riseing and it will only get tighter i am afraid. take care all and have a blessed day. timetable - 2008-04-03 07:43:00 |

| $2 shops have such great stuff in I'm constantly amazed at what you can buy for $2 nowdays. I got reading glasses there and they are better than the ones I bought at a chemist, plastic food containers (compared with $4 for similar at supermarket) and skittles for my wee grandaughter. tumbleweeds2011 - 2008-04-04 10:39:00 |

| My bathroom looks like a lab...... I've got homemade liquid soap cooling in containers in the bath and Kob's laundry liquid too! There are empty bottles, buckets, graters, spoons everywhere!! It's the safest place to mix up concoctions so my 2yr old doesn't get into them. My kitchen is not far behind either......baking coming out my ears already today and still got lots to go, yay for yucky weather! natcat2104 - 2008-04-17 08:23:00 |
