Hi smartgirl. It has been awhile alright. I agree with grizzly. Hope you are really starting to feel better. Just got back from the beach. Thought I would check my emails and then it is bed for me.

Sunny day here. I am off to visit my son. Have finished the housework and am planning to get everything done early so I can watch a movie tonight and knit. I love the sun Yippee!!!!!!!!

Sleepover was great on SAturday night. I. and I outlasted them all watching the movie. Haha. We had another movie night last night. Watched 5 DVDs!!!
Great movies they were too. Was contemplating getting up this morning to do some gardening when the eathquake hit. Thank goodness it was a bit deeper than usual.

Good on you grizzly. What stamina outlasting them all!!!! lol. I often do that with my grandchildren. We hardly even hear about the aftershocks now. I had my other son come and visit me today with my late Mother's Day present. My youngest son gave me a book yesterday when I visited him. He has had it there but we just did not catch up. The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett. My older son gave me and his wife a Lazer Steam Mop. He told me my present had not arrived before he went off to the States so we have just caught up as well. Aren't I lucky? I had just mopped the floors yesterday so will wait to try it. It cleans carpet as well so that is a bonus. Now to wait for sunny weather to try that bit. I have one sleeve to sew on K's Cardi so it has been a good knitting weekend.

makerealbany - 2011-06-06 21:43:00
3805

Grizzly Did you get any gardening done or did the earthquake put you off. I would have been put off I can assure you.!!!!!

this mornings aftershock even warented a mention on the news, one of the top 6 since September. Yeah we needed someone to tell us that ...............NOT.
The one at 5pm scared me half to death, i have never jumped so high, think i must be getting old .
The Patch had a craft stall this weekend, it was quite good despite the weather, we didnt do as well as i would have liked but it was fun and lots of people recognised who we were. so we haven't been forgoten yet. wE just need a shop now and i have two to look at tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Yes, we tackled the garden as planned for weeks. I really needed I. to be organised with the hedge trimmer and ladder etc and not make last minute plans so this weekend had been planned for a while. It waws so cold we only did the front but all the trees and shrubs are trimmed, topped and shaped. Yahoo! Took 2 loads of green waste to the refuse centre. Well worth the money. Lawns were too wet to do but once done the front will look great. Poor I. has muscles he hasn't used for awhile wielding that hedge trimmer for a few hours. Only the vege garden to tidy now and that won't be a huge job, thank goodness.
I have finished 9 prs of wee sox for an order and a prem beanie and bootees ordered to go with another outfit. So likewise, makerealbany, a very productive weekend.
Yesterday's quakes have worried my girls again, poor Flurry is dropping her fur all over the house again. Sure sign of stress. Poor love. Listening to the news this morning they mentioned the 3 shakes yesterday - excuse me there were 19 yesterday!!!!! Huge activity after only 2-3 per day for the last week or so.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-07 06:04:00
3808

Hells bells girls all those shakes. Gosh you are an excellent tenant grizzly. I can assure you when I was a Property Manager it was so hard to get the tenants to mow the lawns never mind trim the hedges and weed the gardens. You area whizz doing all that knitting for youe orders. Excellent work.

makerealbany - 2011-06-07 21:00:00
3809

Hope you get a shop soon suzy. Today I looked after little J he now has 2 teeth and was very clingy all day. Poor little tike. Managed smiles now and then. Not his usual happy self at all.

Having all sorts of problems with accountants this year. For one 0rganisation he used to do it as his service to community for a donation or petrol vouchers this year I get an invoice for $952!!!!!!! Don't jump up and down yet, suzy, 'cos i'm refusing to pay it, as he never contacted me to change our agreement. The audits for work have increased from about $800 to $3000 for each programme!!!!! Can you believe it? We are trying to find out what our audit options are in regards to our funders 'cos none of them will fund audit costs - apparently that gives them an 'interest' in our finances. (????) Trouble is that amount of money is a 6 month salary for one of part-time workers. It's daylight robbery, is what it is. I should look at the training requirements to do audits, maybe.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-08 06:11:00
3811

Not jumping up and down but................. you have to be kidding, what does he think we are .

suzy59nz - 2011-06-08 19:56:00
3812

All my orders are finished now. I can get back to finishing the bolero for the flower girl at my sons wedding. I just have the lace edging to do now and theheir big day is still 4 weeks away. They are struggling to find somewhere nice for photos, I think as the historic buildings they wanted to use as background are all gone now and the parks they had chosen if it's a fine day are still pretty messed up with liquifaction and maintaining them isn't a priority yet, it seems.
There is a lovely stone wall with 2 fireplaces at the venue they are using which I think would be a lovely back drop but I don't think they see it in the same way.
I am going to have to brave the hairdressers before then. So far I can't stay in the mall too long, especially not to sit still for any period of time but I haven't been since before last September! Thank goodness I had grown it long before then anyway so I've just been trimming to keep it reasonably tidy. Will have to do more than that for the wedding but no idea what even if I do find the courage.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-09 06:16:00
3813

Heavens grizzly. We are always moaning but our auditor charges about 3000 for the annual accounts. It has steadily gone up and we cannot find anyone cheaper. You seem to be paying a hell of a lot more. For each programme? You are right the funders will not pay for the fees!!!!! It is a never ending battle really. Maybe you do need to see about training.

makerealbany - 2011-06-09 23:24:00
3814

Is there anyone who could do your hair at home for you grizzly? Maybe a friend who would understand your relunctance to go to the darn Mall. Or just buy some of those soft rollers and do it yourself. Shame about the photos. Never thought of that aspect.

makerealbany - 2011-06-09 23:27:00
3815

now that I've actually started to think about what I'm going to do with my hair, I've noticed a couple of local hair salons that aren't part of malls, so I feel I have options, especially with the wedding being on a Friday, I can go in the morning.
Speaking of going into malls, what about The Warehouse at Eastgate having a 'REBUILD' sale!!!! You should see the queues of people trying to get a bargain and going into a building that has to be rebuilt to get them. Height of insanity if you ask me. When the 3.3 hit yesterday lunchtime it was pretty hard on our building at work which is less than a kilometre away from the Warehouse. I can imagine what it felt like being in there then!

grizzly4 - 2011-06-10 06:40:00
3816

Oh grizzly, those darn quakes just keep on going, I am amazed at your strength. You should be really proud of yourself. They must breed them tough in the south. You wouldnt get me near the warehouse, some people must be crazy, imagine having to work there. I have just been reading the last few posts, I hope your daughter is feeling much better now. How did she get on going back to work. Its really great having all the wedding things to help take your mind off other things.

smartgirl - 2011-06-10 07:15:00
3817

Makereal have you used your mop yet. How wonderful. How is your knitting going. I dont know how you find the time or energy to do it. I am feeling so much better now thank god. I have miss B next week for a couple of days, the first time in weeks. I am so looking forward to that.

smartgirl - 2011-06-10 07:18:00
3818

It is great that you now have options Grizzly. I would not go into that Warehouse either. To blazes with that.

makerealbany - 2011-06-10 23:47:00
3819

Hiya smartgirl. Yes I used my mop. Pretty good. Just finished sewing up two jackets I had knitted for the boys tonight. Have an early morning start so have to be up at 5. Nitey nite.

makerealbany - 2011-06-10 23:50:00
3820

Got home awhile ago and I am really had it. Had a nice day with K and J though. Off to bed now to catch up.

makerealbany - 2011-06-11 20:41:00
3821

Yesterday we had brunch at McDonald's in Merivale for B2's birthday. He will be 3 on Wednesday. Had a good time despite McD's double booking the birthday room and the stafff being completely inept dealing with a full restaurant. I ordered a coffee and scone before the othersordered Happy meals etc and it arrived after they had finished eating! Mind you haven't had great McCafe experience at Linwood recently either. There is nothing worse than cheese in toasted sandwiches that just will not melt no matter how many times you send it back. No wonder they call it plastic cheese but even that should have a melting point! Haha. B6 and L4 stayed over last night were asleep very early so nice easy evening.
My daughter seems much better now. Medication seems to be helping and she is eating sensibly so she can find out what is going to react without a gall bladder. Just takes time. Her in-laws are giving her a dreadful time about stressing her partner out all the time by continually having things wrong with her and I saw him having a go at her at their son's birthday yesterday as well. They truly don't deserve her!!!!!

grizzly4 - 2011-06-12 10:01:00
3822

OMG like it's her fault that things keep going wrong with her, do they think she gets ill on purpose just to stress him out, she so could do better. matbe he needs to go home to mommy so he isn't stressed.
Catch you tomorrow Grizzly

suzy59nz - 2011-06-12 19:34:00
3823

I agree with Suzy. My daughter's inLaws are the darn same. "Oh he works so hard and he needs a break when he gets home" Duh he lives away half of the year. When she is sick she only has Me for support and she has to share me with her sister if her hubby is away as well. Day after day up at 5 and sometimes half the night with little K. When my girl is sick they never ask if they can help.etc. When he is sick the world is going to end. Mummy rings him every day. When his sister or Mother or Father are ill his world stops and he cannot focus on a darn thing. That is when he is in the country of course. Don't know how he copes when he isn't. I do not believe our girls are really appreciated grizzly.

makerealbany - 2011-06-12 21:49:00
3824

Anyway today I did the washing, baked some bread, did my shopping to fill the vacant spots in the fridge and pantry and generally cruised about. Need to go and see the doc tomorrow to see if they can drill a hole in my toenail to ease the pressure. My toenail is dark red. Get this and you will laugh girls. The toe has been throbbing since my last fall. I really looked at it and I thought "Why did I leave the nail polish on my big toe? I actually got out the nail polish remover and rubbed the stupid thing before I realized it was the bleeding under the nail that was dark red. Duh!!!!! Old age is advancing rapidly. Have to do something as I can only wear one pair of shoes. alsoI need a new keyboard the letters are worn off and I keep making spelling mistakes.

makerealbany - 2011-06-12 21:57:00
3825

So what does everyone talk about in here??

dinglemouse - 2011-06-12 22:00:00
3826

Dinglemouse, You have 77 pages to read to answer that one! Happy reading.
Makerealbany, I remember the hospital burning a hole in my toenail years ago (my kids were still at primary school) to relieve the pressure. I was in agony for 2 days and thought I had broken it but I don't remember how I did it. It felt much better after ward but I do remember being terrified at what they were doing at the time. I'm such a wuss!
Cleared out the vege garden yesterday except for the siverbeet and a few cabbages that are still going. That included the glasshouse as well. Could hardly move afterwards, heehee. We have huge trees down the centre island on our road and they have finally lost all their leaves so I. sucked all them up while I was in the garden. Great team work.
All thiose knitting orders I've done are paying off with really lovely feedback and emails as well. Makes it very worthwhile, doesn't it?

grizzly4 - 2011-06-13 06:02:00
3827

I love your knitting!!!!

dinglemouse - 2011-06-13 11:56:00
3828

It sure does grizzly. I went off to the doc and yep it is broken. Ho ho. So the nail is dying anyway and the pressure seems a bit less today so I was not willing to have it strapped. They wanted to because that is the foot where my Plantar Facitis hurts the most. The heel is swollen because I am putting my weight back rather than putting my toes down. Lol. It has been broken for over a month so it is setting anyway. Plus I cannot mind little J with a darn cast oof any type. I am feeling sure it will settle in time. Ho ho positive thinking.

makerealbany - 2011-06-13 20:22:00
3829

Hi dinglemouse, We talk about anything and everything lol.

makerealbany - 2011-06-13 20:23:00
3830

Grizzly and suzy I hope you girls are not stressed too much. My grandson and I have been on the phone quite a bit today. He is feeling homesick. My daughter was talking to him when the first one hit. He seemed okay but he texted me straight after the 6 and I rang him. He said it was really scary which is unlike him to admit that. Therefore I know it must have been awful for you girls. He was going to the mall.

makerealbany - 2011-06-13 20:27:00
3831

Grizzly and suzy, you have been to hell and back and it still goes on. I hope you and you families are all ok. Yesterday was dreadful, and I see today you have had heap of quakes as well. I hope you got a few hours sleep at least. My heart goes out to you both for keeping so positive. Take care girls.

smartgirl - 2011-06-14 06:58:00
3832

Makereal. I know how you feel with pf, I think I would have done the same as you, no plaster. I hope your grandson is coping ok too. It is so unfair, I hate seeing it on tv, its hard to believe it is going on in our country and we cant stop it. Grizzly is usually on by now so I hope she is ok.

smartgirl - 2011-06-14 07:00:00
3833

WE were first on the list this morning when I logged in. Heehee, you bet me to it, smartgirl. Yes, I am ok but Suzy only got her power back on later in the evening. My son, DIL, B6 and L4 stayed over as they had no power either and they are worried about the front of the house the moved in a few weeks ago. Because I had people in the house with me, I didn't worry about getting up so early and I couldn't use the computer too early as they all slept in the lounge to be together. My daughters house was ok this time.
At work the playground is full of liquifaction again, as is the carpark and the wee park beside us. The creek that runs through the park rose 2 feet in half an hour and everything stinks. Not sure what is happening today yet, have to check which schools are closed, I guess. Thanks for thinking of us again.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-14 08:02:00
3834

Just great to hear you are all ok. Keep you chin up as usual. I am thinking of you all. The smell sounds awful. I could not believe the dreadful noise on tv. It must have been worse for you. Take care

smartgirl - 2011-06-14 08:27:00
3835

Grizzly and i were together when the 5.7 hit ( upgraded from 5.5) we were at a meeting for Purplepatch, i have to admit she handled it better than i did :-)
I am totaly over the earth moving under my feet (isn't that a song ). Was in my car trying to rescue my poor little dog from the groomers when the 6.3 hit( upgraded from 6.0) my car was bouncing all over the road, so so scary took me 90 mins to do a 15 min trip as all the roads were bumper to bumper and all the bridges over the river were closed, only one was open so everyone used it and the road was flooded with about 35cm water i was sure i was going to float off and every now and then the car in front of me would go down an unseen hole i would try to avoid it only to find another hole, i was so glad to get home. My daughter had got home to find no one home and burst in to tears so the neighbours took her in ( she is 21) what a day for my cell phone battery to die.
But we are all safe and sound have power but no water .

suzy59nz - 2011-06-14 19:20:00
3836

omg suzy. You poor bugger. Driving in that. I shudder just thinking about it. Yes it is a song. Cannot remember who sings it. Murphys Law with the phone girl. My grandson was so pleased he had his charged. After the last episode we are always asking him to charge his phone in case the power goes out. He told me tonight when I rang he has stocked up on food today. Ran out yesterday. He does have financial limitations of course. I can imagine how your girl felt when she got home. No darn water again!!!! I told my grandson to fill things up last night in case they lost their water.

makerealbany - 2011-06-14 20:55:00
3837

Gee grizzly. Your kids only moved into that place not long ago. We are seeing a lot of pictures showing all that darn mess but the stench must be awful. I minded J today and he cried everytime I put him down so I was a wreck when his Mum and sister got home this afternoon. They are all fast asleep. SIL left at 5 this morning and woke them all up!!!!!!!!!

makerealbany - 2011-06-14 20:59:00
3838

Good morning girls, I see you have had a very busy night once again. Did you manage to get some sleep. I bet when its time to get up that when you could sleep the best. Suzy I can o nly imagine how awful your car trip was, we can see some of it on tv and that is bad enough. You are both very brave and positive when you post on here. Grizzly must have sleeping visitors in the lounge again this morning. I hope their house is ok this time, they wont want another shift. Houses must be getting scarce.

smartgirl - 2011-06-15 08:01:00
3839

Grizzly, I keep meaning to ask how your friend was that was injured in the Feb quake.

smartgirl - 2011-06-15 08:02:00
3840

Went and cleaned up sons house yesterday afternoon which felt productive and did my grocery shop. I went to the local New World instead of the big Countdown and took my recycle shopping bags (you know what I mean), Was putting them through the check out and the woman packing asked if I wanted the last half of the groceries in plastic bags. said "No thanks, everything goes in the bags." Her reply was that they wouldn't and I must have over shopped!!!! I was very quick to say that this was my usual fortnight shopping, nothing extra, and it has always fiited in the bags up till now! Funnily enough it all did when she did it properly. I am so careful to put things on the checkout counter in order i.e fridge/freezer stuff, veges/fruit, catfood/bathroom etc and each category has its own bag. HOw dare she loudly imply that I was panic buying! I was ropable. Another incident happened before that when two os with our trolleys on either side of the isle moved over further to let an elderly through with her trolley. All very friendly and relaxed but then an asian woman coming the other way forcibly pushed the older lady and her trolly backwards so she could get through first. I told the woman she was very rude and the older lady met up with me further on and thanked me saying she thought it was just her being offended by the behaviour! Poor thing.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-15 08:15:00
3841

Sometimes shop assistants are so dumb grizzly. I do not think tactful and respectful communication is included in their induction process. lol. I would be stocking up but then who knows what will get ruined, etc. Went to Mainly Music with M and K and the girls went to the Katmandu sale with my Summit card. We met up with them for lunch. They certainly shopped until they dropped. They had a ball together. Took me back years I must admit when they were single and carefree and used to do the same thing. Ah those were the days. Ho ho. The 3 children were all very well behaved. I am resting my leg and foot now. I managed to get 1 birthday present which was good.

makerealbany - 2011-06-15 15:23:00
3842

Went to work yesterday, dropped L4 off at his pre-school which was open and kept B6 with me. He was wonderful and helped the staff clean up the liquifaction etc. Never got bored and never complained. They went back to their own house last night so it was very quiet round here and I was up again by 5am!! haha. All our programmes will be up and running again today so I guess it will be business as usual except we are back to using hand sanitiser full time and probably trips to the porta-loo with the kids. We have water and sewerage but not sure how much pressure it would put on the system with 30 children a day. People are increasingly stressed and some I know are in worsening situations with no respite in site. I offer to help when things come up that I can help with but more often there is nothing anyone can do - the problem is just so big. I feel very sad, people are aging before my eyes and I have real concerns about their health now regarding the hopelessness and stress.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-16 07:12:00
3843

It is really upsetting to hear you say that. You must feel very isolated from the rest of NZ at times. I have noticed the aging on tv of the regular people being intervied. Its very sad and after this weeks quakes it must seem hopeless to many. Grizzly you have to look after yourself as No 1 because you have so many people depending on you. You are so much stronger than I could ever imagine. Take care

smartgirl - 2011-06-16 07:40:00
3844

The organisation I work for are showing huge increases in numbers ringing and needing help grizzly. Stress is getting to everyone and people vent their anger on those who cannot defend themselves. It is really horrific but when Men in particular suffer from stress they deal with it in many different ways. Some of those ways are not good. I dread to think of what some children are enduring at this time because unfortunately some Women cannot deal with stress either. To be fair Christchurch People have been thru the mill and back to hell again and again. I know that some people cannot ask for help either so I hope neighbours are watching and helping neighbours. Even from the media analysis it seems a lot of people are at breaking point. The not knowing what is going to happen with the city, what streets will be abandoned,if there will be more quakes ,etc, etc. is just soul destroying. My grandson is finally thinking he may have to move from Christchurch, yet he really loves it there. He has been happy there. I know it takes ages for the engineers, etc to look at the buildings and the like but people need some answers to their questions sooner rather than later. I can understand what you mean about the aging process too.

makerealbany - 2011-06-16 20:10:00
3845

Hiya smartgirl. Boy are we lucky!!! My sore leg, broken toe and aching bones are nothing compared to what they are suffering down there. Mind you I have a supply of painkillers. lol. How are you keeping?. How are the girls? Did you do that programme we talked about? I have been trying to decide my next knitting project but I am procrastinating a bit. Lol. I have to clean up my cottage tonight as I am going to the beach early tomorrow. I think I will have a cuppa first.

makerealbany - 2011-06-16 20:15:00
3846

Good grief! I put big pots of water on to boil before I sat down at the computer and just remembered about them the kitchen is completely steamed up. Stupid woman! My son and L4 came for tea last night while DIL took B6 ten pin bowling with a group from our programmes. I think over 50 went in the end. Great turn out. I gave them all the bottled, boiled water that I had stored, reclaimed more plastic bottles back out of my recycling bin just before they were picked up this morning and plan to fill them all before I see them again tomorrow. They were all having showers and bathing the boys before they went home. A bit of a mad house here again last night.
Our friend that was hurt is doing really well (too well , she says, as she is leaving the unit in 4 weeks). ACC hasn't started the alterations to her house yet so she has to go into a motel!!!! How awful is that?!
I finished the bolero with lacy edge for the flower girl and all the knitting orders including prem bootees that sold yesterday on TM. Like you, makerealbany, I am trying to decide on whats next. I have bought a few lovely patterns on TM lately. It's 'date night' tonight but too nervous to go to the mall this week. Might go to our favourite THai place, it's never too crowded, single storey and our usual table is close to the door. Haha.

grizzly4 - 2011-06-17 06:33:00
3847

You are such a fun character grizzly!!!!! I love the steamimg up of the kitchen. Good on you. Great Emergency preparedness boiling and saving the water. Yep that is ACC all over. Go slow or stop.!!!! I started a cable vest for little J tonight but just remembered my great grandson is 1 soon. I will have to knit machine washable for him. Ha ha. When his Dad has him for the weekend he has all his clothes at his place. My grandson lives with his Dad as he works in Hamilton. He picks C up with the clothes he is wearing and not another thing. He has to buy his nappies and milk formulae even. He pays a considerable amount for child support too. My family buy clothes and necessities for little C and give them to his Dad with instructions to keep them all at his place. My daughter, his Nana gives things to his Mum. She hardly even acknowledges anything though. A very weird, rude little Miss. C is a lovely boy but I do worry about him. I very much doubt that he will get a lot of mental stimulation at home. We are always advising his Dad on how to be a good parent and I must admit he is a very good Dad. Very patient as he has always loved little kids. I think that as C gets older we will have him more often. She likes going out!!!!!!!

makerealbany - 2011-06-18 00:15:00
3848

I forgot to add often to the last sentence. His Dad has looked after him for weekends from when he was a few weeks old.!!!!!!

makerealbany - 2011-06-18 00:18:00
3849

Good on your grandson! Sounds like it's a shame he doesn't have full custody, but then the Mum won't have a benefit, I guess.
I. left for work at 4.30am this morning and I lasted in bed till 5.00 before it got the better of me and I had to get up. Will wait for my shower till he gets home, brave girl that I am. Yesterday was a bit rough with 3 shakes over 4 and the one in the morning was as bad over this side of town (northeast) as the 2 later in the day felt at work (eastern suburbs). The kids at work are great at dropping into turtle position wherever they are and no matter what they are doing. I'm not much of a role model, not diving for cover till I see how long it's going to last, usually just hanging onto something for balance (or security) whether a piece of furniture or another person, eh, Suzy? My poor car is a mess, should be white but is mud to part way up the doors. A lot of the streets on the east side don't have their liquifaction piles picked up yet and there are places where it hasn't even been cleared into piles yet. If it starts to dry and the wind gets up the dust is dreadful and really starts off my coughing again. There are water trucks spraying the roads to keep the dust down but that slippery mess just splashes up all over the cars and in the frost first thing down right dangerous. My boss and her partner are incredibly stressed because of their house - not being able to leave but no water etc either and their garage fell down this time and the whole section was a foot deep in water and sludge. They are thinking of getting out if they pay out for the house and land and with the other full time worker leaving later this year anyway I would be the only one left! I don't know if we could continue and not sure if I have the energy anymore to keep it going. But how could I not after 20 years!? Part of me wants to go too, but I won't while my kids are here with my grandsons. THen I feel really selfish thinking like that when my situation is nowhere near as bad as so many others. Time to give myself a kick and get on with it.
