Good morning ladies. well just about to start round 5 of this blanket, then off out today window shopping as banks run dry, have offer been asked to make a swim suit for a size 30 lady. she wants black but don't think eyes will be able too see that well. I had a few balls of pale green wool all the same batch number but was not till I started this blanket and used up the ball I first started and a new ball for second round that I found them different , have you meet that before .

morning ladies :) It's going to be another hot one I think. Am going outside to spray the weeds around the drive while there is no wind. Need to get housework done as I didn't touch it last week. MrK is coming home today, I'll either pick him up or he can catch the shuttle home. He'll text me and let me know what he wants to do.

Will try and get some stitching done, still haven't picked it up yet since last week.

happy knitting :)

I did some gardening yesterday - weeded the vege garden and then dug the empty bits and raked it over. Might plant some dwarf beans soon, it will need extra goodies like sheep pellets and general fertiliser, blood and bone too if I have any. If I haven't it's too bad as I have to go to Kerikeri for it, and I'm not prepared to leave his nibbs alone for that length of time.

We have friends coming for a visit this morning, they live on their boat. We were planning on catching up with them while we were out on ours, but they're coming to see grumps - they spend the summer here and the winter in Australia, and we haven't seen them for a couple of years so it will be good to catch up.

I plan to tidy up a bit then hopefully do some knitting while they are here, something 'no think' so I can knit and chat at the same time.

It's overcast and cool here but if the cloud burns off it will be hot.

I've never noticed a difference in wool with the same lot number, or batch number, but if its just the same colour number they can often be quite different.

Hope everyone has a good day and squeezes in some knitting or crochet

Morning everyone

Will finish joining the peggy squares this morning. Im really enjoying that. And then will start the super hero. And crochet around the blanket at night time.

Have a lovely day all

Morning all
Hope everyone (including all the "other halves") are doing ok.
Lovely day here - not too hot as yet so am going to mow the lawns once I have had a coffee.
Just back from a walk to help my round the bay training, really enjoying a bit of a challenge.
Knitted dolls clothes for the little doll to go in the cradle bag I have made for a niece's birthday they are real cute but so fiddly for a 5" doll, will enjoy getting back to knitting baby things again when I can knit and read.

Afternoon,
Had two interesting phone calls this am. The first one was from Vodafone offering me an update on my landline and internet plan - an extra 15 gigs of broadband per month at $10 less the only criteria is that I can't withdraw for a year but why would I when I have only had good service from them so far.

Then NZPost rang and a very nice lady apologised for a bit of a problem I had had with my mail hold a couple of weeks ago and she is sending me a book of stamps to make up for it. I find mail hold is just great if being away for a while as I can book it on line and if you have a gold card it's free. I have used it several times and this is the first time I've had a problem which they corrected as soon as I pointed it out to them.

Finished enough clothes to keep the little doll (and hopefully her new owner) happy so now will start something I don't have to concentrate on.

Funny thing I found this morning jayemtoo. telecom has a new plan out for mobiles.
The woman I was talking too on Friday made no mention of it.
Will have to make up my mind soon as to what we do.

Ive done one leg on the Superhero.. But Im going offline to start the border on the blanket.
Have fun with what ever is on the needles or hooks everyone

morning ladies :) MrK is home, was late in the afternoon by the time his discharge papers and prescription came through but that's OK, he's home now. he sent me a text message when he was ready to come home so there was no waiting around for me :). The Furry One is pleased to have him home and can't decide who to run to first lol, me, MrK or our son. he is so damed spoilt lol.

garden, lawn mowing and burning rubbish (fire bans permitting) for me today. Have just finished my coffee so I'm going to get outside while the day is cool and start with trimming the lawn edges.

Stitching this afternoon if I have any energy left :P

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Carole your daughter may change her mind over and over again. I wouldn't do anything that you may regret.
Lovely here, I need to weed the rose garden but have to wait for meds to kick in first. That's including the antihistamines again lol
Glad MrK is home Kiwimade. I can imagine the furry one wanting to share his love around.
Ive picked the first handful of blackberries. Nice big fat juicy ones. Noo I didn't taste them, I cant do sour in the morning lol.

Have to finish the last round on the blanket then its finished. I did one leg of the superhero yesterday.

MrP had a bad day yesterday, stewing over things in his mind. Hopefully today will be better.

Have a good day everyone

I am calling in to see CaroleV later today...... I have several things to PIF in Hamilton around her area.
I also have shortbread in the oven as grand-kids youth group is fundraising to take kids to an Easter Camp.

Still working on several knitting projects...I find it quite good alternating.

I hope those who are recovering from bumps, and bruises and horrible treatments continue to do so.....

I cant show the latest finished item cos Ill be listing it. But it will be on facebook.
Back to the superhero this afternoon.
MrP is in a much better mood today than he was yesterday. It was a very hard day yesterday, but we got through it.

Mini Panic over...

Doing this superhero and it has SKPO in the instructions. the list of abbreviations are on page 92 of the magazine. I have pages 36-40 lol

Anyway from what Aunty Google told me its the same as S1 K1 PSSO...

Why don't they just have a universal list lol..

Thought I was going to have to chuck what I had done.

Phew...

Its an Alan Dart Pattern

popeye333 - 2014-02-04 15:47:00
3720

popeye - a universal list would make it too easy, we'd have nothing to pull our hair out over, same as universal knitting needle and crochet hook sizes. I can cope with most of the knitting terms, but the difference between UK and US crochet terms does my head in completely. I just can't get the hang of it. I start off thinking "right, when it says do this, I actually do that" and after a few rows or rounds I find I'm doing it all wrong.

And having just got a whiff of something burning, and thinking it was the stir fried veg, I got up to check and just caught the potatoes before they were ruined. That would have put Mr K in a right grump. He hasn't had a good day today. I put clean sheets on the bed and did the washing and had a tidy up (still a bit more to do) but I haven't done any knitting today. I did manage some yesterday while we had our visitors, but they arrived before I'd had breakfast so my breakfast yesterday was 2 chocolate biscuits, and not long after they had left another one arrived just as I was about to make lunch, and they brought carrot cake, so that was lunch. Not a very healthy diet yesterday - never mind. It doesn't happen often. In fact I can't remember ever missing breakfast and going straight to choccy bikkies.

I really must do some serious knitting soon. I'm having withdrawals.

Have a lovely evening everyone.

kuaka - 2014-02-04 18:45:00
3721

jayemtoo, they are lovely. Where did you get the doll from

raej2 - 2014-02-04 19:04:00
3722

Raej2 - had a bit of a hunt to find the dolls but got them at a discount shop in Lower Hutt mall, none of the places in Napier or Hastings seem to have them. The patterns came off ravelry.

Kuaka many years ago when I was a teenager I visited my rather strait laced grandmother and was asked what I had had for breakfast I vaguely said toast or something as I couldn't admit that in fact I had had apiece of left over chocolate cake.

I agree Popeye and Kuaka the variations in knitting terms can be so frustrating but so good to have google and youtube,

jayemtoo - 2014-02-04 20:04:00
3723

Ha, that's funny jayemtoo - I didn't feel even remotely guilty yesterday about my diet either. I was too tired to worry about it. Nor did I when I stopped at the supermarket on the way home from the hospital and bought two pies, one of which I ate in the supermarket car park (it was 4pm and I'd not eaten since breakfast) and the other one I brought home and reheated the next day for tea. We have both lost weight since Mr Ks batman impersonation.

We are basically back to normal eating but I wish Mr K would settle back to a good nights sleep routine. It's almost worse than having a baby in the house.

Right, feet up and knit for a while before having an early night.

Night everyone.

3725

morning :) have just finished my coffee so I'm going outside to mow the lawns. Neighbours are up and about and off to work soon anyway so no one to annoy. Want to get it done before the 26 degrees kicks in!

I've done two 'blocks' on the blanket I'm crocheting so will take a pic later and upload it. It gives me an idea of how many I need to do to finish it. Son is eyeing it up lol but he will change his mind when I get to all the pink peggy squares lol. I'll make him one this year - have a gorgeous vintage pattern in triple knit I can use for him. It's a bit more 'manly'. I like the idea that both kids will have some knitting and stitching made by me. Son has an American Indian Chief I stitched and daughter will (eventually lol) have the dragon I'm currently working on.

Right-o... coffee is finished, time to dig out my old gardening shoes and start mowing.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
The oddest thing I eat for breakfast is left over hot chips or potato fritters, cold with lots of salt. Doesn't happen often tho. Its taken years to get MrP eating breakfast instead of a smoke and coffee. So its peaches and weetbix now.
Have finished the body bit of the super hero. He reminds me of the Mr Muscle cleaning man. Did a couple of squares on the next peggy square a friend asked me to do for her, after seeing the finished red one. I have a bid already yay.
This one is pale green and a hard to describe colour. its white but lemon but kinda a green tinge. lol.. But against the green it looks lemon. Its for a girl , but she was thinking if they have another baby and its a boy the blanket will cover both.
MrP's skin is now peeling off, on his legs where the rash thing is. A month now. Still waiting for the biopsy results. but its like hes sunburning from the inside out.
Have a good day everyone... I want to get as much of this toy done as I can today.

popeye333 - 2014-02-05 08:51:00
3727

carolev - anything before midnight is an early night for me, I'm a real night owl! I didn't have an early night in the end, but I was asleep just minutes after I got into bed and I slept right through till just after 8, so I'm not feeling too bad today.

Not sure what I will do. Might try and do some gardening then some knitting. I've got a couple of things I want to do while his nibbs is laid up, one is to tidy up the little front deck, get rid of the old barbecue and put all the paint pots down in the workshop, and then I want to move my industrial sewing machine from the workshop to the little room off the billiard room, but before I can do that I have to clear a space for it. The room is just basically full of junk, so some of that will have to go. I will have to pick my moments to do it, as he will want to help or supervise. We've been wanting to do it for ages, but have been too busy working on the boat. Now's my chance. I will probably have to do it while he's having a nap in the chair.

I'm going to do a few rows of knitting before I start on breakfast.

Have a great day everyone.

popeye, our daughter peeled every layer of skin (over a few weeks) when she had severe allergies to her epilepsy meds. She was taking 60mg (yep, 60!) of prednisone to help combat it - took just under a year to wean her off it.

The dermatologist from Waikato Hosp told us to use Aveeno lotion on her skin as it was what they used in the burns wards. This was when you could only buy it at the chemist and it was super expensive! Now you can get it from the supermarket at a much better price. It was lovely on her 'new' skin and seven years later, I still use it. Might be worth a try on MrP's skin and if it doesn't work for him, it will for you lol.

Lawns mowed, mrK has been weedwacking some thistles out in the paddock so it's time for a cuppa. Then I need to post off a parcel to our daughter. Maybe then I'll get some stitching done!

happy knitting :)

Thanks for that Kiwimade.. We are still waiting on the dermatologist results. Ill ring later today.. its certainly confusing to say the least.
What caused your daughter to peel that way?

Oh disappointing re the one showing up Carole.. Hope it improves for you. but one willing student is good eh.

Havent done a lot of knitting today, 1 1/2 shoes. but Ill be knitting this afternoon. I want the superhero done so I can concentrate on the blanket.

popeye333 - 2014-02-05 12:35:00
3731

Just thinking *popeye* while pasue is snoring.......could MrP be having a reaction to Aqueous Cream? I do have a lot of faith in AQ but every so often we take a break for about a month. Especially at this time of the year as often some-one has given us moisturizers for Christmas.

grandmasue1 - 2014-02-05 14:25:00
3732

No I don't think so Sue we stopped using it a while back. Have been using the fatty e-cream from the hospital. Wonder if it could be that.
But first we tried prednisone and antibiotics, no good. Then we have cut his Amitrip back cos that was increased late last year. It has eased a little. I still reckon its the amount of insulin tho.
More than the rash , as if that's not hard enough to cope with is his attitude and moaning about things taking time. He has less patience that that of a gnat.
Expects to come first. And doesn't help that our dr is away again. But if there was anything the Hospital would have called anyway.
Have finished the feet and the head of the Super hero now. And started on the arm. but that needs concentration and no interuptions so will do later.

popeye333 - 2014-02-05 15:47:00
3733

our daughter had a severe allergic reaction to epilepsy meds popeye - to the point where her kidneys were beginning to fail and she had to be hospitalised. Had MrK in hospital at the same time with his cancer and trying to do a second semester at uni.... fun times lol.... NOT! She tried six different epilepsy meds and had reactions to them all so decided not to take any. She was a very very sick girl for a while there.

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-05 15:49:00
3734

Oops I did read that lol..

Ohh not good eh... Hate it when meds for one thing cause some other problem. They put MrP on tegratol I think that's an Epilepsy med, turned him into Dr jeckyll and Mr Hyde. He was plain nasty.

The problem I can cope with. Its the attitude that comes with it that is pushing my buttons.
And the fact that he seems to have forgotten how to do anything for himself. So he has to learn to wait for me, or he will have to do things himself.
I wish someone else could do his insulin etc... Cos he is sure I hurt him for the sheer fun of it .
Im glad I don't have kids, I couldn't cope if they got sick. id be a terrible mother, they would be frustrated at me wanting to know what they are doing and where they are at all times. Im like that with the furrbaby let alone kids.

popeye333 - 2014-02-05 16:04:00
3735

Test results in. Dermatitis.. only what we have been saying for weeks... so will see the locum on Friday to see what he suggests.
Going to try calamine lotion, cos that's what MrP's mother used. And see what happens. At least hes willing to try that cos, its what his mum used to use so it must be correct, in his mind.
I think it will dry him out. but we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Hes peeling now so it gets even weirder.
Still his mind is at ease.. for now. And for that Im greatfull.

morning girls. well last night kuaka and I sat talking and knitting . It's nice to be able to have a friend over and knit without making coffee haha, poor lady kept yawning but would not go to bed,, any way just started round 6 on blanket,, have made more dresses yesterday just love this machine.

carolev - 2014-02-06 06:45:00
3737

morning ladies :) Housework today as the garden and lawns are all 'done' for now. Might have to give MrK a hand with weedwacking the thistles in the paddock though.

One more week with our son home so making the most of it. At least this time he will only be 40 minutes away! And he has already suggested I could make mac'n'cheese and 'drop it off mum, leave it on the doorstep if I'm not home!' lol, cheeky buggar!

I've done next to nothing with my stitching, my hand keeps getting pins and needles. But I am working on another crocheted block. It's getting hotter though so there is slow progress. At least I'm in no hurry to finish.

Coffees finished, might get cranked up with cleaning the bathroom.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-06 07:11:00
3738

Miserable day here - humid, blowing quite hard and raining, and Mr K has woken up with a sore throat. What more does he have to put up with.

Our cleaning man is supposed to be coming today.

Yesterday I finally did my pile of ironing, so that has finally been put away from the lounge, and today I shall continue the tidy up which is just an accumulation of untidiness resulting from the weeks of working on the boat and coming home too tired to do housework. Mr K is even untidier than I am but at least he isn't zapping round the house leaving a mess behind him like he normally does, so I have a chance of getting the place into some semblance of order.

Did quite a bit of knitting yesterday and plan to do some more today. I would like to start a blanket but can't decide whether to knit or crochet it. I like the 10 stitch spiral one but not sure if I have enough wool to make it big enough in the two colours I want to use. I'd hate to start it and then run out of wool before I've done enough. Something to ponder. Meantime I will carry on with my current tea cosy, which I should be able to finish today.

Happy knitting everyone. Enjoy your Waitangi Day.

Morning everyone.
Sounds like everyone is busy but content.. Kiwimade typical son lol... Is he going to Waikato uni this year? Be nice to have him close by eh.
Lol at the night owls sitting yakking while they knit.
Nice to get on top of the housework. I need to dust.. My bath gets loaded with dust in a matter of days,, its weird.
Going to get groceries this morning. Shop doesn't open till 9, and I don't see any reason to change our day, even if it is a holiday.
Tried calamine lotion last night on the leg, just one to see how it compared to the other, he reckons it feels better than the other. Hes got jeans on this morning, doesn't want to freak out any kids with white spotty legs lol.

Ive done 6 squares of a 7 square row. And will get into the arms of the toy today. theres a lot of turning so will do it when MrP is concentrating on tv... While Bonanza and Gunsmoke is on lol.

Feel like some fresh fish so I hope the boats have been in. Gurnard is on special.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-02-06 08:44:00

nope, no more uni for him popeye, he's finished his degree :) We are so very proud of him, a degree in commerce and commercial taxation law. For now, he wants to just find any job and save to go overseas next year. He's lived on next to nothing over the last three years and with cheaper rent in Hamilton (by almost half!) he should be able to save.

Housework is done, we get dust too popeye but it's from the onions and spuds grown in our area. Now they are harvesting and the tractors are kicking up lotsss of dust. The ground is just so dry, it can't be helped.

having a cuppa then I'll get some stitching done.

happy knitting :)

morning all. on second side of 6th round, taking a lot of wool I never noteist the amount on last one as I had many colours. any one know how much wool it might take. we off out today been home using my new toy for 3 whole days so my older toy has not moved from garage hope she will start. why do we call cars shes ???

carolev - 2014-02-07 06:39:00
3742

morning ladies :) I have no idea carole lol, we call boats 'she' too. it's colder this morning, hopefully we will get some rain.

A quick tidy up around the house then I might do the windows - dammed flies! And some stitching of course!

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-02-07 07:48:00
3743

Morning everyone... I certainly hope we don't call cars and boats "she's" cos they can be temperamental at times...
Warm here I have my fan on lol.

Taking MrP to get his stitches out today. Calamine lotion is working well. His skin is peeling, and once that has eased we will moisturise again. Had made a drs appointment but Ill cancel that shortly.
Did the arms and undies of the hero yesterday. Just ears, hair a nose and the button for the front of the undies to do I think. So I should get that done today.
Will take some squares to join up while waiting for nurse. Will do my INR as well.
Finally the weeks will run properly now. No holidays to make things feel all out of place. silly cos Im home all the time but it still tends to make things feel different.
Have a good day all.

popeye333 - 2014-02-07 08:28:00
3744

Another miserable day here today. Forecast says rain until Sunday, so I am cursing that I didn't put the beans in the garden beforehand, although if the ground gets too wet that would have been no good as they may have just rotted away. Anyway it's a good excuse to sit and knit. The tidy up continues. I keep nibbling away at it. The trouble is we have a big house but very little storage, combine that with two untidy people, and the result isn't a house in show room condition!

I just have to knit the cherry for the top of my tea cosy and embroider on the "sprinkles" and then sew it together. Won't take me long. Have also crocheted the eyes for another owl tea cosy. I will put a pic up when I've finished, and although they will be listed for sale, it won't be here on trademe, so I shouldn't be breaking the rules here.

Mr K is still in bed but says he is feeling a bit better than he did yesterday but as he felt lousy yesterday that isn't necessarily much of an improvement. Let's hope he feels okay when he gets up.

Right, I'm going to knit the cherry and start the embroidery before breakfast.

Why a ship is called "SHE" -- Anon

A ship is called "she" because there is always a great deal
of "Bustle" around her and there is usually a gang of "men"
about.
She has a "waist" and stays in "shape" for a long time.
It takes a lot of "paint" to keep her looking good and it is
not the initial expense that breaks you, it is the "upkeep."
It takes an experienced man to handle her correctly and,
without a man at the helm, she is absolutely uncontrollable.
She can be all "decked out."
She shows her "top sides", hides her "bottom," and when
coming into port, always heads for the "buoys."

So now you know!

Stitches out. Legs peeled and calamined. Nurse said they are looking good... Felt like saying yeah cos we have fixed it, nothing the drs or hospital has helped.
I have always loved peeling skin off people. From when I was very young. MrP doesn't burn and peel, he just goes brown. So its a pleasure to sit and peel his legs lol.
Windy here but still sunny and warm.

Thanks Kuaka, I love the explanation re "She's" lol

Hi there grandmasue1 - love the top - do you by any chance belong to Knitting Paradise? The top has been featured lately - also the cradle bags.
To anyone who doesn't know about Knitting Paradise - it's an excellent site with answers to your queries (from members) - photos of members latest knits (or crochets). I imagine all the ladies on this thread would love it. You get an e-mail every day. Worth a look!
