Now you want to ban from Trademe freedom of speech as well as bad spelling .Why don't you just try to help someone in this thread instead of dribbling on about your problems? And I am getting sick and tired of fighting my spell-check just to piss you off.

But I was only trying to help you.Initially it was to help you on the difference between a hinged stamp and unhinged the keyword being "Hinge" and even tried to point out the mistake you made on your own website Put you on the right track with the NZSDA, to try and alter your prejudice against bad spellers and now you want to remove peoples freedom of speech!!!! I even gave you some encouragement on the swap listings as much as I new that it was against Trademe rules but I felt sorry for you.I have tried to help you as much as I can but perhaps that is not the sort of help you really need?
I sincerely feel sorry for you and hope that you get the right help .
Kind regards
Paul.

Just wondering if stamp catalogue books are still used. I have a big heavy Stanley Gibbons "Stamps of the World" 1972 catalogue with thousands of black and white photos. Was told to throw it away but thought I'd better ask on here first. It weighs 2.5kg!

Chuck it out. They come out annually. But Trademe and ebay have stuffed the prices in the catalogues anyway.

Only specialized Catalogues or Handbooks are always good reference books.
Simplified catalogues older than 10 Years would still have picture references but prices would be outdated if that is important to you.

www.lenjury.com --- full catalogue and prices, no illustrations

www.nzstamps.com --- (ACS), full catalogue, needs the right viewers.

www.nzstamps.co.nz --- (nzpost), complete listing without prices.

www.colnect.com --- NZ pages seem fairly complete apart from the last couple of years

www.nzstamps.org.uk --- excellent coverage up to about 1940 or so, plus excellent coverage of airmail history.

A very good list of possibilities..
So catering for one with the question "What is this stamp worth..." should be able via the net to first view the stamp he/she is looking for and of cause the value.
Best overall view is colnect but without prices.

Now if images and pricing were to be combined the search for any NZ stamps would be just a mouse away. Then specialities 'a'' numbers and varieties could be added.

All without catalogue number not to infringe on copyright. or its own numbering. Or the main stakeholdes could agree to wave copyright in favour of a visiting fee.

Would it not be wonderful to search for an oldish stamp to be shown various varieties and their values just on the net ?

??

They are interesting for articles and adverts, no question about that historic past. However I think from the 60s big business churned out catalogues because of demand.

Now the shift is towards On-Line Catalogues - the quick answer !
Whoops there go another 30% of the non PC user taking their rocking chair.

That is why collectors get less and less

On the one hand youngsters get to gribs early and the older get left behind - technology advancement

The stragglers will be fodder !

Although year books have high cat value in reality they are not worth much ,Dealers will give you around 50% of face value of the stamps. You are better to use them for postage as you will get your moneys worth out of them that way.

Here is a Quote from a well known Dealer on the same subject as this.
year books or stamp packs--market is flooded--i will gladly sell all i have at below face value

Presently I found two selling on TM, with one selling at just over 60% cat, hardly a flooded stamp market I would say. but that is now, huh !

So selling at 50% of face value for decimals sounds like a good offering even when toned, decrepit, but still good for postage.

Are there any offers to come ?

I did a search for "year pack" and seemed to get fourteen packs in ten lots. Didn't do the math, but most look to be asking over face. Not one of them has a bid.

Year books.... 1985 to 2004 (no 1998) for $800. 1985 to 2001 for $900, around $50 a book, so must be about face. Again, no bids.

If they would regularly sell over face, probably many more would come out of the woodwork. As it is, they're all sitting in drawers gathering dust, or being broken up for postage.

I don't get the market for year books?
I buy specific stamps here and there through the decimals to progressively improve my own collection's quality.
Another thing which doesn't seem to turn over are specials such as the Millenium Album.

Thats about right. By the time the would fetch double or more face, many may have toning.

Only the NZpost wiould really know how many of what was sold to get any idea what is in collectors hands and dealers would refer to the quantities stock to get some idea.

But as said, if the going price were to up, many wiill come out of the woodwork.

It would be advisable to contact all the dealers and give them your wish list. These would be highly specialised items and hard to come by.My CP catalogue doesn't list them but this doesn't mean that they don't exist.

If they are imperf, they are probably 'proofs'. They come up occasionally on the world-wide auction site.

Peace, coronation issues are pocket change. Arms type should fetch real money.

Some earlier issues with Aitutaki, Rarotonga and Penrhyn also fetch a dollar or two, although catalogue prices are sometimes less than un-overprinted!

Give it a $1 start, and it might sell (the Niue overprint is even more common than Cook Islands for these). If it's a corner block with plate number or something, you might get more, perhaps $2.

Google "Stamp Dealers in Auckland"
Any stamp dealer will give you a free 'quick' appraisal of your collection. Up to you if they then make you an offer - quick sale or do better yourself !
If you need a detailed valuation then you pay for their time.

Well firstly they will not be "First Day Covers" but rather "Commemorative Covers". Presumably they will have been issued to commemorate the opening of the Tauranga Historic Village Post Office in 1977. Of interest to those who collect such items.

These are Tongan; some early Tongan stamps were inscribed Toga (something to do with the problem of transliterating Pacific languages into European alphabets, I assume). Some of these might fetch a dollar or two.

You can get slightly out-of-date SG prices from http://www.allworldstamps.com or http://mycollection.stanleygibbons.com Getting around 30-40% of the catalogue price (I refuse to use the phrase "catalogue value") is generally an excellent result on TM.

2345678 Thanks for that, Checked out the web sight ,very good.
What I have is sheets and some blocks of the 1943 stamps (plus some others).
I assume there is more value as a full sheet and not is separating them , is this correct?
How would I go about listing these.
Thanks for your help.

Hard to say. If you sell as full sheets, your main market is dealers and investors who are looking to make money in the future, whereas selling as single stamps or small blocks, you're selling to collectors putting them in an album. In theory, you should get more from the latter.... until you factor in your time, TM fees, etc. (and it may take a long time---note how much stuff doesn't sell in the Pacific Islands category).

My own opinion would be to try selling as whole sheets first, simply because once they're broken up, there's no going back. But there's dealers here with infinitely more experience than me....
