Popeye -we are in Bathurst -it is a really lovely old town -my son came over here 5 years ago -he is in the timber industry and there were a lot if redundancies over home -he was offered a really good job over here so brought his family over -unfortunately my grandaughter was diagnosed with a heart condition so we came over to help out -I still have a son and his family in Napier which is tough -

Popeye I know this thread is only supposed to be about craft but I wouldn't advise anyone to take on a tailless cat -unless it was from a recognized breeder -that kitten could have Manx in it and the cross breeds very often have problems with their spines and their bowel -they often grow up to have no control over their bowel -if I was your friend I would think twice

I haven't done a single stitch today.. I was just too busy socialising and am going to be out and about most of tomorrow too.
I attended a surprise 40th birthday today and gave her my 8 inch golly :) I think she liked it . the organiser had said no gift but I though aaaaah she might like this.
Night night.

morning ladies :) lol armin, yes it will! But worth it in the end to have it finished.

One more bit of the garden to do, lawn edges to clip/wack and lawns to mow. Housework can wait until tomorrow.

Then maybe some stitching this afternoon.

Happy knitting :)

We are still here, still working on the boat, tidying it up and loading more stuff on board. Have to go and put diesel in our vehicle this morning and get petrol for the outboard motor and the last of the groceries, load them up later this morning, and some clothing and we are very close to casting off. The other day we discovered that "kuaka" had been put back on her mooring with the cockpit door locked but the keys in the ignition, so the batteries are all flat, including the new one which we installed just before Christmas ($200). So the chap who was so desperate to buy her, seems to have abandoned her, and we've only had one payment. Looks like the deal is off and she's still ours. More work to do when we come back from our holiday. Oh well, if we do the work on her we should get a better price for her when we find a genuine buyer.

Probably won't get much knitting done today, but I've started on a scarf for winter. Must say that so far this summer we haven't found it too hot to sleep at night, and so far we haven't needed to use the heat pump in "cooling mode". In fact last week I wore my bed socks to bed, and I'm still wearing my knitted slipper most evenings. I'm going to knit some more, the wool is on the boat, must remember to take the pattern.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Everyone.

Yes Gerry B1anca knows she is in for a rough ride with Boots/Squeak. Hopefully the problems are simply cos he started eating solids when he should have still been having mums milk.

Wow Kuaka, not good about Kuaka being abandoned. You really will want your holiday before getting in and sorting that out eh.

I have to agree we have had maybe 3 horrendously hot days otherwise summer hasn't been too bad. Tell me that shortly cos m going to pick beans in the full sun lol

Carole that last edge will take the longest but it will be soo worth it.

Right Im going to nip out and get these beans. I should deadhead the roses too but they can wait.

Have a good day everyone

morning ladies :) Arrggg kuaka, another hassle, bet it feels like you will never get that break!

Lawns to mow today, didn't quite get there yesterday. Oh well, I can do them now while it's cool and nice and early. No nieghbours to annoy so all good. The Furry One will 'help' me by attacking the mower... while I fill it with petrol he runs round and round and round mower barking madly at it. Almost like saying, I know you make a lot of noise, so hurry up, I want to chase you! He does the same with the vacuum cleaner lol.

I'll be stitching this afternoon - am on a roll with the border. FINALLY figured out the quickest way to stitch it lol... omg I can be slow at times, you would think I would have seen the pattern within the pattern sort of thing. Well I did, kinda lol, just thought I knew better than the designer!

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Carole when I changed the group yesterday to a closed group, everyone got an email from facebook. No one else has had any problems with it. So it must have come from something else to affect your computer.

Lol Kiwimade at the Furry one. Bobcat used to attack the Kirby when we had one. I thought he would be petrified of it, but he used to attack it too.

I know what you mean about not figuring out the easiest way to do thing till its nearly too late. Im always like that. I say I don't have a logical mind. I get there in the end but waste time in the getting there lol

Lovely and cool this morning. 18 degrees, my fave temp. So far my head is clear so that's a good start. not much wind so maybe the pollen wont be too bad today.
Picked another handfull of beans out the dining room window lol Handy that they are just out there.I froze 1.5 ice cream containers of sliced ones yesterday. not doing too bad for self sown.

Im soo tempted to have a play with the looms. But I have to be good. Im getting there with the peggy squares. Hows yours going Kiwimade?
I love my scarf but I think I might have tio change the needle size when I get to the hood. its very open and soft, but it might be too soft for the hood. Although it will fall nice. Ill see when I get there.

Argghhh Bob is out sitting looking up into the lemon tree, I glanced at him and he is sooo white with the sun on its very hard on the eyes. I have spots in front of my eyes now

Have a good day all.

popeye333 - 2014-01-25 08:50:00
3563

haha I bet Bob has spotted a bird! The squares are coming away nicely, have about 50 of them now. I'll have to go back and do two more rows with the main colour when I get it and some main coloured squares too. It's lovely to sit in the evening and just do a no-brainer square while watching TV. I can blat them out quite quickly too and my stash is dwindling!

Edited to add, I never received an e mail from you :). I have had an attempt to hack my FB page though months ago but FB were onto it and e mailed me to change my password. They wouldn't let me onto my page until I had done so.

Wonder what on earth is happening with fb and the emails. I haven't sent any out.
Wonder if I should change my password on there too.

Yeah its nice not having to think too much when watching tv and crocheting. And certainly faster when there's only two ends to sew in too.

I ended up cleaning out my jewellery boxes this morning. Found a couple of pins we had been looking for so I was meant to be doing it. And bobcat came and helped me. He's sleeping now.. been a hard morning Lol Not

Yeah I just changed mine too.

Well I am just devastated, we won't be going on holiday now for quite some time. Mr K is in Whangarei hospital - he had a fall at home last night - well it was more of a "fly" than a fall, but a CT scan shows he has broken a bone in his neck and the orthopaedic (sp?) surgeon said he is lucky not to be paralysed or dead. He said if the bone he has fractured had moved slightly one way or another it most likely would have damaged the spinal cord or the brain stem. So I'm further away from my holiday than ever and looking at a long period of nursing the old bugger.

The flipping cat hadn't come in and we'd been out calling her, he went up to the higher level of the section and was calling her and looking for her and no sign of her, and on his way back down the rocky uneven "rustic" path, he sort of launched into space and flew like superman from about 10 or 12 feet above the lawn, and probably 5 feet back from the lawn, and landed with a thud. I rushed over and asked was he alright and he said "no" and I said "shall I call an ambulance?" and he said "yes", so I thought to myself that this must be serious. So I've been at the hospital all night, haven't been home long, I'm about to go and have a shower to freshen myself up, then I'll do last nights dishes, then I don't know if I'll have the energy to find something for tea, or if I'll just collapse into bed. I'll have to go back tomorrow and take him some clothes and his toileteries, glasses etc as at the moment he's in his underpants, socks and a gown which only does up at the back of the neck (and which he refers to as a "dress"). At least he hasn't broken his sense of humour. He's got a multi-coloured face, a big bruise on his elbow, another on his shoulder and one on his knee, his back and ribs are sore, but apart from that he's okay.

Oh Kuaka , these men really just know how to behave badly eh. I truly know what your going through, MrP was the same when he fell off the ladder. he was only about 2 feet off the ground, had a heart turn and fell onto the concrete footpath. broke Lumba5. He was as lucky as your MrK.

He will be sore for a while and yes it will totally change both your lives.

Please make an effort to eat and rest yourself. You have to make sure your are strong so you can support him.

I was on the way to a weekend away with the girls and to take one of them to the airport when MrP had his fall. He wouldn't talk on the phone so the nurse told me that he had said to carry on have the weekend away. There was nothing I could do for him while he was in hospital anyway.

A sense of humour is the way to get through. I found out later the reason he had his heart turn is, he wasn't that keen on me going away with the girls, cos he felt they were using me. And he had got so wound up that he had the heart turn, while on the ladder putting xmas lights in the tree.

You eat properly and rest, he aint going anywhere for now.

Take care

popeye333 - 2014-01-25 16:44:00

Sorry to hear that kuaka, as popeye said take time to look after yourself as well

raej2 - 2014-01-25 16:48:00
3572

And what is really brassing me off is we have worked so hard and spent so much time working on the boat and getting her ready to go away, loading her up with groceries so we could stay away for ages without having to come back. Last weekend when I could have saved 25c a litre on fuel by spending over $200 I was too tired to get the groceries, so got them on Monday then went again yesterday and spent over $200 and if I'd waited till today I could have saved 35c a litre. Thought we wouldn't need much fuel as the boat is full of diesel and the vehicle is half full, and now after a trip to Whangarei and back I will need to put more in so I can go again tomorrow. And all the flipping groceries are on the boat, the pantry here is almost bare. I feel a bit like old mother hubbard!

kuaka - 2014-01-25 16:52:00
3573

ohh dammmm kuaka! As popeye says, look after yourself. MrK will be well looked after in hospital. Pretty scary though!

3574

Thanks kiwimade and popeye, I'm okay (or at least I would be if I didn't keep bursting into tears - can't decide whether that's anger, frustration, exhaustion or relief!)

kuaka - 2014-01-25 17:21:00
3575

It will be a little of everything Kuaka. And a bit of helplessness too cos you don't know what you can do for him ,just yet.
Id be frustrated with the petrol groceries etc too even without the accident on top.
Yell and scream and get it out, we used to smash a glass jar on a brick wall to get our anger out. it was good. Wrapped in a plastic bag so you don't have to worry about the pieces flying.
But I have learnt the hard way you have to look after number one, so you have the strength to look after Hubby

You're probably right about the bit of everything and the helplessness thrown in too. I kept telling my son that he was the most important person in his life when he was going through hell when his girlfriend took off to the UK with their 3 month old son. He just came home from work one day and they had gone. And sometimes we forget that we are important too, so yes, it's time to get a grip and stop feeling sorry for myself - I think I'll be okay tomorrow if I can get a good nights sleep tomorrow. Wish someone could wave a magic wand and make it all better.

armin59 - 2014-01-25 18:13:00
3580

Thanks armin - he's been in a lot of pain but they've been giving him morphine, and when he started saying he wanted to come home with me, I reminded him that all I can give him is a couple of panadol so he quietened down and agreed he was probably in the best place. Hope he gets some sleep tonight too.

kuaka - 2014-01-25 18:16:00
3581

He can ask for a sleeping pill.
One thing that is positive with his pain. If he didn't have any pain it might mean things are a lot worse.
Its hard for us to see them in pain, but your right we cannot give them the meds they can.

I was just checking out MrPs leg rash. Its getting worse, so he will end up in hosp this week I should imagine. We see the dr late Tuesday, I will have his bag packed.

Ohh Don't forget a pen Kuaka. They cant order their food without it, and that makes them grumpy. lol..

Treat yourself to a bubble bath if you have one, and something to wind you down a little. Music on in the bedroom so you will drift off.

popeye333 - 2014-01-25 18:29:00
3582

Where were you going in your boat anyway? Don't worry it will happen eventually, it's the time that poor MrK needs you big time. I bet he feels stink, bugger the stupid cat. Hate cats, can't breath if they come near and the aholes know it and stalk me.

Always something to learn eh carole, soon that machine will be second nature!

I'm going to stitch today. Just about done the outline of the right hand border (down to the middle) and I'm on a roll now I have figured out the quickest way. Peggy squares are coming along, my stash is getting smaller and smaller! Mind you, I don't have a lot as I've only picked my needles back up again in the last twelve months.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. Kuaka I hope you have slept. And that things are better today.
Men,, ******* Men, took MrP out for some fresh air last night and to hold the bucket while I deadheaded the roses. Silly b*gger thought he should put his foot up into the garden and ended up falling. I dropped the scissors and caught him. He thankfully only had a couple of scratches, but I wont tell him I jarred my hip and spine. If I told him he would be apologising all day.
He knows hes wobbly on his feet and needs to stay balanced. Im sure he did it in sympathy for MrKuaka.
They both need a clip around the ear lol.

Bet you have lost of fun things to discover Carole.

Kiwimade how are you going to join your squares. I thought Id just use a double crochet. but I think it needs a border or something. Ill take a pic of the squares later. And seek some advice.
They take a fair bit of wool eh. And Im only making a baby one. I will have used about 800grms maybe a bit more depending on if I put a border around each square before I sew them together.
And I half pie expect to have black suggested lol.. you will see why later lol.

Have a good day everyone. And fingers crossed for MrK feeling much improved today

I'm going to crochet them together with a half treble (not sure what the US description is) or a slip stitch. I'm kinda leaning towards a chocolate brown for my main colour as it isn't a colour I have used and will go with the squares I have already done.

I'm planning to do two rows around each square in the main colour and crochet a plain main coloured square to put between the two toned squares. Then join them into groups of nine (nine rows per square lol, I like things to 'match') then do another two rows around each joined block. Then join the 9 square blocks together. Thought it would be easier to join them this way rather than lots of little squares. Ohhh and I'll alternate the blocks so there are 5 multicloured/4 plain and 5 plain/4 multicoloured. It's all in my head lol, should write it down and draw a plan.

When it is all pieced together, I'm thinking of a scalloped edging all the way round BUT that depends on how I'm feeling at the time!

Edited to add, you are so right about our men needing a clip around the ears sometimes!

Just back from visiting Palm North and Stratford lovely trip with my sister and her husband and had lovely weather while away. Managed to do quite a bit of knitting while sitting and chatting. Work in progress. And Kiwimade Im the same I like things matching. Cant do random. Although I did some blankets years ago that were just bits.

While Im leaning towards white edging, as it will be getting sold I have thought about black too. Making it popular for rugby mad people, with babys.
Its going to be 7 by 7.

Hope all going ok for Kuaka. Glad you have a good time Gerry and Jayemtoo

Your most welcome 1buzemum.

If its a storebrought wool let us know what it is and someone might just have one. hanging around. Theres a couple of lovely groups on fb too one is yarn /wool swappers and the other NewZealand knitters and crocheters. Both good places for finding that missing ball and somewhere to show off our creations.

Kiwimade it was the Crusaders that I was thinking about when I mentioned black lol

Im going to do it in white. Probably not too practical but I think it will be easier to find a closer match with the white than with the red. 2 rows/14 squares to go
