I am really upset. I bought some ginger chai tea which I have been drinking 4 or 5 times a day and I ended up at the doctor's for 2 hrs yesterday. I didn't know that ginger was a blood thinner and shouldn't be taken in such large amounts by anyone taking prescribed thinners. According to a website I visited it's best avoided by people taking diabetic meds too.

Thank goodness the bleeding stopped with meds otherwise I would have had to have the balloon thing shoved up my nose again - which is really unpleasant.

Ah well, back to Twinings Earl Grey.

Sounds terrible Ali, I heard looked up on the net after getting a text from sis to see if we were okay. Good to hear you're all okay.

Calista, sounds as if you went to the doctors at the right time. I am always surprised what 'properties' our food has besides the nutritional ones.

the phones are overloaded - our wee bit of nature drama to contend with, a lot of damage as the placemakers was in the process of being demolished so it was only the tin of the roof when we were there on sunday - so that just flew at anything that was in the area which was the carpark and the shops, the weather was evil driving through it it was some of the heavist rain I have ever driven in, poor son thought harbour bridge was closed so is driving right around auckland to get to work, will probably take him over an hour to get to work!! I can hear the helicopters going over now so there will be some footage soon. I recon I was driving at the same time and was probably 1/2 km away lol - Im getting good at that!!

calista that sounds dreadful, I wonder how many other foods can do that for you - bet you were getting worried if you were bleeding all that time.

Just popped in and have now turned on the radio because of the post on here. Thinking of everyone in Auckland. 2011 is turning out to be a hell of a year (not forgetting the east coast of the nth Island too.)

We are all ok here. We live near Birkenhead and trees were ripped out. Our house is fine and I have spent most of the afternoon inside with AUT. I had no umbrella though and my friend offered me his. I said it is ok, what about your hair haha! I just went and got one anyway on way home. I am off to have some nice rice and vegies for dinner. Nice for a cold night like this. and unpack my groceries.

I tell you charlie where theres danger we are there and not far away - I said the most stupid thing to son the other day about me having a protective sheild on me - but to be truthful think I have one, not silly thinking one has either, its in the half empty half full - because we were there on the last earthquake and not in coverage we really gave our family a scare, to be truthfull, seeing the river change course over fresh green grass we did not click to what was happening duh we had no coverage thought it was strange but as we were on a 4 wd adventure any moving of the earth was covered due to the nature of our adventure holiday - it wasnt till we got the phones ringing off the hook that we realized we had caused real terror in our family as they couldnt get thru to us.....heres the photo we took at he time and didnt realize tha that bad thimgs were happeing in chch

Morning All
Well in East Auckland I was completely oblivious to the weather.. I work in a modern airconditioned office and my outlook is a block wall.... so nothing to see moving. It was a dull day but the weather bomb seemed to hit North.

Off for my bike ride this morning a wee bit apprehensive as a close friend got knocked off her bike this time last week.... she was riding behind me and a man on the roundabout didn't see her... we can't work it out as she was in bright fluoro and highly visable. He has written her bike off and given her a few aches and pains but she is fine... but its made me apprehensive... again.

Parent Teacher Interviews are tonight.. I just love them, they all queue up to tell me how wonderful my children are.. I call it my yearly ego stroking as both my girls are really cool... not boring and studious and not class toppers,.. but lively engaged bright students who the teachers always wish they could clone.. there words not mine.... a common phrase is they wish they had a class of "J's"

Not sure whats for Tea.. possible easy steak on the BBQ and salad... and Miss Vego... well I am afraid I am making her do it herself... testing her commitment... so it will be interesting to see what she comes up with.

Have a great day one and all... JB

Goodness Toadie dinner plans this early. I'm still trying to shove myself out of bed to go and make a cup of tea and hoping I can persuade the dog (elderly) to go down and get the paper. I'm not a morning person so one step at a time is quite enough.. Have a pleasant day everyone - free of all shaking type events.

Waves to early birds Toady & Greerg, I am off to go to pool early for water walking. Grabaseat tickets that I am giving to a friend for her 60th birthday (Feb). The site says try again later this morning, darn!!! She doesn't have a computer, which means I have to do it , I have found it more difficult than I originally thought, as she is doing weekend courses thru out the year. Fingers crossed that I can get tickets later.

I'm sorry to say that the man who died in the Albany tornado was the husband of a coworker. The staff were told this morning, but she is resisting pressure from the police on having his name in the press to protect her young son. Counselors and legal teams from our firm and his are working with her. Our hearts are broken for her.

lennyb1, so tragic,& sad. Not only does the poor lady have to deal with the unexpected sudden death of her young husband, but she also has to deal with the public interest & intrusion surrounding his death.. Life is very unfair at times.

and he will be remembered as well as being the one in the tornado. very sad, and so unexpected mind you a lot like a earthquake in chch who would have thought. - just come back from the mall half is closed off apparently they opened at 12 midday - lights still out on that corner were the tornado hit, sis birthday tomorrow she has no idea whats coming for her birthday I made a album of her photos and because she knows nothing about it I had to look at every 1800+ photos as though I had never seen them before lol - so over them have spent hours and hours as you can imagine. am pleased with how its turned out and the card as well, just love my crafts, I am doing a workshop mon and tues so hoping to learn a couple of tricks with that.
anyway hope everyone has had a reasonably good day, am sure the toadiesschool report will be the normal high accolades..

Happy Birthday to Ali's sis, Sounds as if you are making it a very happy and enjoyable one for her Ali.
Morning every one, waves to sumstyle, foggy damp morning here. We now live on the inner edge of the Manukau Harbour so fogs are the norm here at times. Off out later to meet up with a friend for lunch.

sumstyle, thanks for the links to the pics ... I'm going to have a look. Sorry I've been so 'quiet' on here, I have been keeping up to date with all your stories, I'm just really physically unwell at the moment ... lots of hospital stuff coming up. At least it's a lovely sunny day here in Chch this morning :-)

Ooo not good your unwell - and you're right - the sun can make a big difference.

I walk along Hackthorne Road usually twice a week, and the same over St Martins way so it's interesting comparing the two hills. Around Rapaki Road and Ansley hill it is very sad to see such damage - these photos are of houses probably normally hidden from our view.

sobering photos, heartbreaking thing is some of those homes must be years old and would probably been protected from being demolished - the earthquake kinda stuffed that protection idea huh!! hope you are feeling o.k. 2halls, just rest up, dont think that all the aftershocks and what you are living through is good for any of you.
I was back up at the mall today cleaned up really fast one end is still closed (farmers end) but cant believe how much they have tidied up, sister has been taken to thai for lunch, received her magic scroll which told her to look in a certain cupboard (32" lcd telly - bro and I went 1/2's) we are off to a very special restuarant for dinner 10 of us which bro and I are paying for - I think she is doing really well for her 50th !!
we would have fit a movie in but they were still closed, not sure of the damage to the picture theatres, fun times lol

Have been rather quiet myself with being back at uni but I have been feeling a little better about things, just money or lack or it sucks. Lucky I have angels around me and I have transport taken care of for next couple of months and had lunch brought for me this week.

a bit dismal today in the weather department, cooks thats more than annoying, one wonders if you can bill the bank for your time lol!! - you dont expect a bank manager to act like a tradesmen!! hayfever back to its worse have to take the tablets to keep it under control and the puffer comes into its own as I have this horrible weeze at night and it wakes me up revolting stuff - one has to wonder if its payback for being a smoker? I am six years this june 1 - so hardly every "want"a fag now, it does take a long time to get to that point, but must admit I was quite determined that I would be - when I gave up I never said I gave up as it implies I am missing out on something, I choose to be smoke free and I said to people I am free of smoking rather than I quit or given up - its like you are telling yourself that you are missing out - interesting stuff for the brain but I do think they are quite powerful messages, so earthangel that little message is for you - I know how difficult it can be but with your asthma you are not being kind to yourself if you are throwing smokes down into there as well!! lol said with love

For a piece of useless info I just heard on the radio that the luckiest people are born in May. I have now got one less tooth in my mouth, I am biting on gauze while I type this post. Yesterday I had a wonderful day at one of my favourite west coast beaches, sun, good company & yummy food made it a 'purrfect' day, Have a lovely weekend everyone.
