Morning everyone
.Lol Armin re the Squirrel... One of the freezers died wow a year ago now and that was a mad panic to get another one.
Friends and neighbours all benefitted from the defrosted meat.

Kuaka I like your thinking re the paint and bait...

Raining here too. Was warm when we got up but Ive cooled by the fan now.
Started a wee tunic dress last night. Although I don't think it will be too wee. the varigations is lovely.
Have to pop up the road for our prescriptions, the last of the free stuff.. Have already had 114 prescription items this year. so this will put us up in the 130s easy.. God its a wonder we don't rattle.

Yep Holidays on your own are the best,, Can please yourself. if you want a lazy day you can do it. And for me it would mean I can go places I cant with MrP... places he cannot get into etc.

Have a good day everyone

People lost heaps of stuff that they could have really done with during the earthquakes when we had no power for a week and the shops were closed.
Mum used to bottle and she told me she was being Mrs squirrel, storing food for the winter. Jeez I miss her so much.

I love preserving and making jams and pickles etc.

When we first got married 1991 we lived in houses with Coal ranges. And not far from orchards.

I felt like I was in heaven. We could get cheap fruit and I could bottle everything I got my hands on, and heat the water. often had a roast in the oven and bread proving on the rack.
I Loved it.. we had a sleep-out That MrP lined the walls with shelves for all my preserving.
Ive stopped doing that now, cos well your lucky if you can get cheap fruit these days.
And we don't really need to eat it, being diabetic. I still make small batches of jam.
And when those blackberries start ripening Ill be freezing them or making a little Blackberry jelly.. Yummm.

I used to love it. I miss it. but I also miss the coal range.. they were sooo good.

We put in several plum trees the second year we were here. The intention was to make plum wine, and plum jam and plum pies. The reality is so far the things have between them produced about two dozen plums over five years. Mr K is threatening to kill them and dig them out!

We also put in three elderberries as they make lovely wine, and so far they haven't produced one single elderberry. Waste of money.

We had a day of working on the boat today as it was supposed to rain and get quite windy. We got the wind but no rain. Never mind, it didn't hurt us to stay home - I mowed the lawns which needed doing. No peace for the wicked. I haven't done much knitting but I have finally finished sewing up my possum tunic, and even tried it on, and it fits. Phew! So pleased with it, it feels gorgeous.

Apparently it's back to working on the boat again tomorrow, so probably won't get any knitting done again. My stash isn't dwindling very quickly. I'll have to make up for it when we finally get away.

Night all.

My bottled plums, plum jam and sauce are all stashed away in the pantry. MrK makes awesome pickles and has made 'bread and butter' pickle using cucumbers my sister grew and didn't want. He also makes divine pickled onions.

I've started on my stash! Am crocheting small(ish) peggy squares as I want something quick to make. The double bed in the spare room could use an extra blanket so I'll pick away at it. I just need a colour to combine everything together, am thinking maybe navy blue. My stash isn't that big as I only picked my needles up again 12 months ago. Am determined to keep my stash under control and use it all for something.
Now my stash of embroidery threads... now that's another story lol.

good morning girls. did a whole side on my blankie last night, well got gardening lady coming today, I have a big stash of wool, I have some thread don't know what it is but will photo it and post it on F B . I am getting use to no seeing grandkids and my purse is staying fuller, I started my borrowing book so will see how that goes , well sewing today after I have done the washing, Tony cooked me a yummy breakfast, I bought that knitting pattern of that fancy shrug . have a nice day , I plan too

morning :) I have a man coming to pick up two wrenches he bought from me today so that will be the last of my sold items gone. Lawns need mowing, it's been around two weeks since I mowed last. No rain = no mowing :P. Housework is done except for windows.... I want one of those karcher window washers - damed fly dirt!

Good idea carole to have a borrowing book, much easier to keep track and there are fewer disputes.

Will stitch, or knit.. or maybe crochet this afternoon. What on earth do people do if they don't craft? lol

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Im trying to get my stash down. But swapping wool that I wont use is fun.
I got two lots of pattern books in the mail a minute a ago.. Soooo cant wait to do some of the patterns.
MrP recons Im getting clucky, over patterns lol.
Carole I have messaged you. I know someone who will use that crochet cotton.
I finished the front of the dress Im making. Last night, Its soo pretty. Will start the back today, should only take a day or so. Cos it doesn't have the straps on it.
Im doing a peggy square blanket in crochet too Kiwimade. Once I have finished this dress Im going to have a week on that. My squares are only 6 rounds... Yep remind me when I put them together that I should have made them bigger. Im going to alternate the colour way tho. Red and white. My fave colours hahaha.
They are lifting the onions in Pukekohe now so I can imagine that MrP will want to put some pickled onions down. He peels them I bottle them.

Interesting question Kiwimade about what do people who don't craft do.... If I wasn't crafting Id be reading. And then if my hands weren't busy crafting Id probably ending up eating all the time too.

Have a good day everyone

Sit on their arse and watch TV. I have two friends like that. Amazing!
Borrowing book? Please explain.
Carol a whole side of the blanket, very impressive, then I get to the corner and think, Hell I hope I still remember how to do this.
A mans picking up two wenches from you and they are kiwimade. That's nice.

3469

lmaoo armin, Mr K can only dream they were wenches!

I took 'borrowing book' to mean carole writes in it what people borrow from her so she can keep track of what is where. I stopped lending books because I never got them back.

haha popeye, mine will be nine rounds as I don't want anything too big and heavy over summer. And it will be pretty random but with a main colour for borders so heaven knows how it will turn out. Oh well, it's only for the spare bed so not too fussy.

One third of the lawn mowed and ommg it's getting hot out there. Having a quick cuppa and then onwards and upwards!

A good idea Carole. And Id make them sign it too... then they may start not asking soo much.

Beautiful day with a good wind. So the washing will be dry by now. Im soo pleased I don't mow lawns for a job now. it would near kill me I reckon lol.

MrP reckons Im getting clucky over pattern books lol... Im going to have to ADD to my stash cos a lot are done in 6ply. And I don't have any of that.. Sooo many cute things to knit.

that's a good idea about signing it - you could have another column where you both sign it when it has been repaid too. Bet the requests become few and far between!

We used to have a blackboard outside our back door with a list on it of who had what.....lol.....and it is surprising what came back that we had long said good-bye too. It was for my husbands tools etc. He would put the date borrowed and then rub them out when they were returned. It became a bit of a joke in our 'circle' as in " Is your name still on Pasues blacklist?'

Well we are really getting down to the nitty gritty on the boat. Mr K has almost finished the repairs, well they are finished, he wants to put a couple of coats of paint on so they look finished. I decided the curtains in the main cabin looked grubby so took them down and have brought them home to wash, they are in the machine as I type this (hope they don't disintegrate or I'll be in trouble with a capital T), then I decided to reorganise the stuff in the galley, especially under the sink. We have enough glad wrap, snap lock bags and rubbish bags to last us about 3 years. Discovered a jar half full of concrete milo, another of concrete salt, and another of vintage tea bags. Brought home a heap of containers to be washed thoroughly and ice cube trays which need a good scrub. They can go back tomorrow. I cleaned all the windows and the ceiling of the main cabin and all the "fiddle rails". So we are getting close. Tomorrow we will go back and tidy up, and then apparently we have Monday and Tuesday with rubbish weather, then we can hopefully do the final loading on Wednesday, maybe cast off, or cast off Thursday. So excited now. Really looking forward to getting away.

Going to put my feet up for a while then think about cooking tea. Might have to seriously consider doing some housework before we go. As I said to Mr K today. If we had burglars they would think the place has already been ransacked, it's such a shambles at the moment, but I can't do everything and the boat has been our main focus of late, so maybe I can tidy up while the weather is lousy.

Enjoy your knitting ladies.

Sounds like a productive day tho Kuaka.
Fingers crossed for the curtains....

Ive had a cruzy day knitting around a little housework..

Downloaded 21 patterns from spotlight... Imagine if we had to pay for every single pattern...

Have decided I need to get some larger needles so I can knit the two lots of chunky wool I have . One will end up a hat/cowl that I found on the net. Not sure with the other as yet.
Yep weather meant to be a bit nasty for a couple of days... Im up to date with the washing , other than a candlewick bedspread. I need to repair it first. The area that is in the sun is very thin and split.Nnot sure if it will be repairable. Fingers crossed tho

The curtains survived the washing machine and have been hung out to dry, brought in and ironed, and are ready to go out again tomorrow and be re-hung. They are quite faded and I have new fabric to replace them, just didn't want to do it yet - if we waited while I made new curtains we'd still be waiting at Easter.

Now I shall try to sit and knit this evening, and hope to not fall asleep in the chair.

Morning everyone.

Oh Kiwimade I prescribe a day of stitching.. Its sure to help. I was suffering a little yesterday with my sinus, and had the glowing cheeks to go with it.
I will say tho that its heaps better than the past 9 years cos the cabbage tree isn't there to make it worse.

Carole she is soo pretty. Love the colours. Also love the candlewick bedspread too. don't think Ive seen a green one before.

Jayemtoo the rain will be here tomorrow and the next day. So the grass will enjoy.

Made a decision, we are going to spotlight to get some bigger needles. I know Id never be totally happy with bamboo ones. And I just brought a loom set from here, so I can have a learning session before making a bigger investment. I will find out how much I saved when we get to spotlight cos its a set Ive seen in there many times. And I got the set for $13 all up, $5 for the set and $8 for postage lol.

I just hope Im not tempted to buy wool lol.

Finished knitting the dress last night. will sew it up later when we get home.

Have a good day everyone...

Pretty frillys Carole

They only have the plastic looms in spotlight Manukau, from what I saw. The set I got off here for $5 was $25 at spotlight. so a good deal even with $8 postage.
I did buy a loom hook while we were there, incase there isn't one in the kit Im getting.
Got a little bit of wool. For a couple of sets in the pattern books I got yesterday.

BUTTONS. OMG they are blardy expensive there. I ended up getting a card with two big buttons on. $3-20 after my gold card discount.
I will be buying them from overseas in future. They are pretty tho, sort of pearly. MrP spotted them actually. And it was he that reminded me to look.

Got some big knitting needles so now I can do this thick hat / scarf/ cowl thingee.

Oh they have a magazine on the counter. Costs 99 cents , but there is a $10 off voucher on the back if you spend over $50

Will have a wee play on here. Then its dishes and sewing up the dress. And attaching the costly button lol. I have wool left I might knit a hat to go with it and put the other button on it lol

Help Ladies ...

5 ply and 6 ply are getting hard to find.... when in spotlight the only 5ply I could find was Moda vera and horrible colours.

If I was to knit a 5 ply pattern a size larger than what I want, but in 4ply would it end up the size I actually want it to be?

And If I was the knit a 6ply pattern, in a smaller size than I want, but in 8ply would it end up too much bigger than planned?

I do have a set of three looms from spotlight but seldom use them and the hook I got with them was faulty.

A relative of mine had his house in the path of the Sydney fires some years back.....they were watering things down as it got nearer....then at the last moment the wind changed and it went down another valley.

morning ladies :) omgg Gerry, how bloody scary for you and your family! I've been watching the fires on the news - both the Aussie and California wild fires and couldn't think of anything scarier. Hope you are all safe and the river is wide enough to protect you.

Roll on the rain, it is so dry here. The south-westerly wind has just sucked all the moisture out of the ground, the soil just crumbles in my hands.

Have some trades to sort out today and then I'll stitch I think. I'm still working on the border, am all the way across the top now and stitching the 'fancy' corner block. Should finish that today and begin the right hand border down to the half way mark. Am very pleased with it and glad I've picked it up again.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone
Stay safe Gerry. Hate those fires.. A friends mum lives in California too so thinking of everyone. Id take the wool patterns and needles. But good idea having the animals in already too.
It had been raining lightly here. We need heaps more the hills are brown.

Half knitted a wee hat to go with the tunic. Using a basic pattern but putting blocks of stocking stitch and garter stitch in it like the dress.

Then Im going to knit my hooded scarf cowl thingee. I had enough ink to print it off yay lol

Have to ring the landlord today. The dam toilet is leaking again. don't know why. It would really help if it leaked a lot worse tho and we might manage to get new carpet lol.

A nice quiet day here/ so have a good one everyone
