301 | Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions. No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again. echoriath - 2012-10-04 18:20:00 |

At a simple minimum, it is worth it's weight in gold, less a bit for the copper with which it is alloyed. Posting a picture here would go a long way towards getting you a more useful answer since condition goes a long way towards indicating value. echoriath - 2012-10-04 18:21:00 |

There are several mint marks (CC, O or S) or other variations for the US one, not to mention technically there were two entirely different varieties. On one, there is a lady seated, on the other there is just a head. The US one could range from about NZ$70 upwards into the thousands if it's the RIGHT variety. As for the French one, mint mark (A, W, B, BB, D, I, T, H, K, L, M, MA or Q!) is also a question, and I am guessing the condition is less good, so potentially as low as bullion value up to a couple thousand NZ$. Realistically, probably less than $100, but that's just a WAG (wild-assed guess). Those are of course book/insurance replacement values. echoriath - 2012-10-04 21:15:00 |

Sounds nice, though gold tends to stay nice and shiny. That's one of it's draw cards. The real question is how worn it actually is. Google the details of the coin and the word photo and compare yours to what you find. echoriath - 2012-10-04 21:19:00 |

Very nice coin at a very nice price! Is it in AUnc or thereabout condition? I got an 1843 one recently in EF but for nowhere near as good a price as that. chrisr5 - 2012-10-05 22:39:00 |

I find it annoying, though, that questions are not searchable. That is, if I enter a unique or unusual word into an answer or in a seller comment, it won't come up in a search for that word. That was my experience, but if anyone else knows otherwise, I'd be keen to hear about it. Because of that lack of searchability, if I think that the info I want to edit or add to the description will increase the sale value significantly, and the bidding is not yet strong, I will remove bids and edit VERY quickly. Then add a comment afterwards apologising to bidders and explaining that I wanted to correct something. Erring on the side of accuracy only plays to the seller's advantage (and adds to credibility) IMHO. Edited by echoriath at 9:36 pm, Wed 10 Oct echoriath - 2012-10-10 21:36:00 |
332 | Yeah I get your point Echoriath. What I have done is spelt the word republique wrong. I have missed the P in the word lol... Bidding is going ok and there are a few watchers just dont want to miss out lol cashintheattic - 2012-10-10 22:44:00 |
333 | To correct for my own glaring oversight where I have an automatic search for "french or france" but not "francaise", it might pay to list the country name in the anglicised way as well. echoriath - 2012-10-11 03:37:00 |

336 | Can anyone shed any light on what this coin is? also this half penny? cashintheattic - 2012-10-13 07:57:00 |
337 | The first one is Moroccan (Maroc) under French control, thus the "1 Franc" and "An" is "year" in French. I'll go out on a limb and say the half-penny was electroplated with another metal as a novelty. echoriath - 2012-10-13 10:33:00 |

Hey Iamriff, unfortunately the NZCCA's rental for the site expired, and hasn't been renewed so the site has folded. As to the other question, I guess any item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and sometimes in auctions people get buying fever! I think it also helps to have a business model that doesn't involve insulting buyers/potential buyers for not bidding enough or refusing to complete auctions when they don't sell for as much as you wanted them to! chrisr5 - 2012-10-15 20:56:00 |

if you had a photo of both sides of the coin, i could tell you the condition its in for you, the 1949 crowns have 50% silver content in them,if its a bit tarnished around the edges i would say it could be in very/fine condition. chefman1 - 2012-10-17 16:13:00 |

You mean a black light? Most of the herbal high shops probably sell them if you cannot find one elsewhere. I gather there's a pisstake of CSI or similar on youtube where one of the female detectives shows up late to a crime scene where a black light is in use. She apparently has some brightly glowing dribbles around her lips..... echoriath - 2012-10-18 21:55:00 |
