tuii2 - If you knit 2 strands of 4ply together that will make 8ply - otherwise known as DK - then just follow the pattern. Good luck

My four kids are back from their Nelson camping trip. Two days early as the tent blew down last night. At least I know they are safe and Yay! my car is back. I bet it has no petrol in it.

I double the 4 ply as well to make doubleknit (8 ply) tuii2. Hopefully you have enough 4 ply to do that. I found this though on Google, might be useful :)

Haven't really done much today, just moped about, dam I need a job. I did get some buttons on Maddy's cardy though, I'll take a pic and post it on FB. Got a bit of stitching done and the pot painted.

happy knitting :)

I have had a great day......but no knitting but did take a photo of my brother having a trial of the 10 st blanket he doesn't know I am knitting for his 65th birthday :) he wanted a jersey. I am compromising :)

Your blankie is looking good Sue. I'm thinking of finishing the natural one I started for Rae's 60th. I find when I knit two 4plys together that it comes out a bit thicker than double knit.

Always good to do a tension swatch...then you can check how it compares size wise :-) (ie check it with a DK or 8ply patterns tension for the size you want. You can compare using either another DK pattern you have or an online one :-)
It would be a shame to do all the knitting and then find the pattern versus yarn weight does not work out. Far better to do a 10cms square first.

morning :) An outdoorsy morning for me today, have a pot to plant up now it is all painted and another plant to plant and more weeding. Roses need deheading and the bears paw needs pruning back. Slowly filling in the big gaps in the garden. The BBQ/raised vegie garden area is slowly coming along. One part of the garden has been built and I can visualise it better now. We want to get the vegie garden done first so we can start planting winter vegies soon.

Will get some stitching/knitting done this afternoon.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Yeah I wasn't sure about the wool etc cos often 2 strands of 4ply end up slightly thicker.
The blanket is coming on nicely Sue. Cant wait to see yours Carole.
Had a washout of a day yesterday, but did manage to get the second sleeve done and one square of the blanket.
This morning we have to take MrP to the drs, to try and sort out his diabetes. Will be great to see the dr who has been in England for the past few weeks.
Kiwimade what about looking at a job to do with the outside or gardening, maybe in a nursery or something? you obviously love it.

Found a new website last night via a tip on fb. Lots of craft things. Buttons is what I was looking for and ohhhhh so many to choose from and cheap too. I don't understand why they are so dear here.
Ill put the link in shortly.. Have to find it again lol

Dr enjoyed his trip home to England to see his parents.

Took my knitting.. The band of the wee cardy. Im blowed if I could get the button holes to work so since it only needs wee buttons Ive just done it over one stitch. Will get back to that later

Ohh they are pretty... Another one downloaded lol.. Ive run out of ink so it will have to stay on the comp for a while.

Need to sew up the wee cardy tonight. cos Im getting close to the length the band needs to be I think.

I found a cute tunic pattern yesterday so am going to start that next for Addy Next door.

good morning girls, just about to start round 12 on blankie , b cat just when you think you have her trained to keep her birds outside, she brings one it, 3 times this morning , luck for me her daddy was home and in the house. well out early as he is taking his car to get a oil leak fixed . made 2 nice new friends off the net this week, I am enjoying having friends, keeps my mind off the missing grandkids. well second daughter moves this coming weekend, so I have to tow trailer and I can't back to save myself.

carolev - 2014-01-16 06:53:00
3426

morning :) I can't back a trailer either carole and MrK has tried to teach me. I remember one time we had such a row over it, I stormed off, slammed the car door and the window shattered! MrK said later there must have been something wrong with the glass (it was rattling in the car, was an old car) as no car window should have shattered after having the door slammed. Was quite impressive though lol.

Have some sales I made here to sort out then maybe a quiet day stitching. Have decided to do the border first as this is the trickiest part then move into the picture.

happy knitting.

I can back a trailer (sort of) but I remember years ago my next door neighbour when we lived in Hamilton went to the tip with a trailer load of rubbish and couldn't back it. She was so embarrassed she came home and spent the next two hours driving up and down the road, backing into her driveway and then out again, and backing into the side street. She reckons she could put a trailer anywhere after that session. I saw her and thought she'd lost the plot until I caught up with her later and she explained what had happened.

No knitting for me lately, so I haven't posted in here. We're still working on boat repairs and coming home late each afternoon/evening completely knackered, but we can see light at the end of the tunnel and hope to be away by this time next week. We will probably spend the rest of the summer out on the boat, with visits back home to check things, pick the beans and collect any mail from the post office. (Now watch the summer disappear!)

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.

Getting close to the end Carole. Saw the pics on FB

My stepfather was teaching me how to back the trailer , when I used to mow lawns. Sadly he got sick and I never finished learning. We don't have a tow bar now so Im happy with that lol

Husbands should never teach wives how to drive or back trailers...

Oh Kuaka you have well and truly earnt your holiday.

I finished the wee cardy last night. Im not greatly happy with it. It looks short and fat. The sleeves are short but I actually knitted them longer than the pattern said.
Will put pics up later. Cos I don't know what colour buttons to put on it. So will go with the consensus.

Going to Pukekohe this morning.. we haven't been to our fave bakery for ages so going for a treat.

Will start the tunic/dress for Addy later. Using a variegated soft wool we got from Spotlight a while back.

Have a good day everyone

I just drive my car with the trailer on, next to the poshest car at the dump. I always get offers to help back it.

armin59 - 2014-01-16 10:05:00

Hmmm I probably could back our car ok....but no...there are some things that really should stay in the "mens department" of things to do...gotta leave em with something they can do that we pretend we can't! lol

Popeye....us the Library function of Ravelry....saves on ink! I just print when I need the pattern. Or read the pattern from the net :-)

Grey ole day here in Wanga Vegas this morning....a good knitting day I think!

I soooo love this idea^^^ and will remember it lol.

The last of our plums (only a small tree) need using so I'm making plum sauce. Just waiting for it to thicken so I can bottle it... smells divine too :P. I've already made plum and ginger jam and MrK has bottled some for me so sauce is next.

Came home from posting off a sale to find I had made another lol, I'm on a roll :). MrK's SCUBA gear is slowly going to new homes.

Once this sauce is bottled and I've lunch I'll stitch for a while. Popeye, baby cardy's sometimes do look a little squat as babies are short and dumpy :) so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's hard to get your head around knitting baby stuff after lots of bigger knitting.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-01-16 11:50:00

I couldn't reverse my car to save myself let alone a trailer -was a real shock to the system when we arrived over here as you have to back in when angle parking -lucky other motorists are patient while I take several attempts to get in at a decent angle
Very hot and smoky here today -might list some stuff on ebay -have some knit pro needles to sell -old boy bought me a set for Xmas as a surprise which was lovely but I already had most of the sizes

gerry64 - 2014-01-16 12:09:00
3433

I can and do back a trailer. I always use my mirrors......it might be just a knack but many years ago I got a truck & trailer license and we had to be able to reverse around a corner BUT these days I don't have a tow bar...my choice, I don't want to be everybodies dogsbody :)

grandmasue1 - 2014-01-16 12:12:00

Gerry I'm after knit pro. Did he get you the fancy one

Same with us GMS... We have a two door car and no tow bar. Suits us fine now.

Ok here is the wee cardy. its turned out a 22 inch. The sleeves are short but to me almost too short. Mind you as Kiwimade said I haven't done baby stuff for soo long.

Yeah I liked the pattern too. Never done a twist where you start knitting stitches 3 in lol. You knit the 3rd, 2nd then 1st then slide them all off together.
But it turned out nice

Pink first and second choice of the white :-)

ixcelm8 - 2014-01-16 14:47:00

jayemtoo - 2014-01-16 15:01:00

white gets my vote too as they don't detract from the pattern :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-01-16 15:06:00
3441

Thanks Ladies Will go with white. Then it can be worn with anything.

Have started a wee dress, only I don't think its going to be too wee. So am knitting it for a 3-6 month. It might be double knitting but its very thick. So it should fit wee Addy when she is 7 months old.
Apparently shes waits for Daddy to get home from work. They have a cuddle and then shes down to bed. And doesn't wake till he goes to work the next morning. Which is about 6am.
She must be a very content baby.

Have just picked and sliced the beans to freeze. Another almost a full ice cream container. Not to bad considering they just regrew, we didn't plant any this year.
And OMG we have masses of blackberries.. the biggest crop we have had since we planted them. I have very little room in the freezer sooo its going to be interesting to say the least.

We have 3 freezers Carole. And all are full.

Its a weird need I have. I have the freezers full and the pnetry in the garage as well as the cupboards in the kitchen.
Cant help myself.. I swear Ive had a previous life when I was starved. Its the only reason I have for the "need" to keep plenty of food in the house

I'm like you popeye, I always have a pantry that is absolutely chocker. I often wonder about previous lives, but in reality, when I was first married and living in the UK, hubby worked on the building sites, and used to make good money during summer, but often had long periods without work during a harsh winter, so we relied on what I had in the pantry to keep us going at times. Old habits die hard.

And I've done no knitting today, but I've mixed up two lots of epoxy glue and today I didn't even manage to get any in my hair (yesterday I had to cut a chunk out of my hair as it had set like concrete - which is good news for the boat repairs, not so good for my hairstyle!) My nails aren't looking so flash either. Won't need any nail polish for a while.

But I'm going to try and do some knitting tonight before I fall asleep in the chair. Night all.

kuaka - 2014-01-16 20:03:00

And did I mention that Mr K is talking about buying more paint and varnish to take away with us, so that we can do some "maintenance" while we are away on our well earned and well overdue holiday. I told him I'll buy and use the bait, he can buy and use the paint.

kuaka - 2014-01-16 20:12:00

That'll stink the boat out won't it? I think you should enjoy your break, sounds as though you both deserve it .

grandmasue1 - 2014-01-16 22:05:00
3448

It's for the outside of the boat grandmasue, the inside is fine, all lovely wood and varnished, but the outside is looking sadly neglected. If he wants to paint while we're out, I'm okay with that, he did nothing all winter, just sat around complaining about how he wasn't going to live much longer, so at least now he's feeling better, he may as well do something constructive!
