For NZ stamps try http://www.lenjury.com/ or http://stampsnz.com/ but you will get nowhere near these prices on Trade Me. Search expired listings to get a better idea.

hi , i was just wanting to know what the term ( with V R or without VR means please .

The first life insurance stamps were issued in 1891 and had 'V R' on them (for Victoria Regina - Queen Victoria).
Similar stamps were issued in 1905 without 'V R' on them as Queen Victoria had died by then (in 1901).

Does anyone know a fool proof way of telling if a stamp has postal ink mark or a fiscal one? Is there an easy way to distinguish them apart - especially if only a partial ink mark? Also is there any value in postal fiscals - fiscally used?

Thanks. It does seem a little complexed!! I guess easy if the wording "Stamp duties" is clear!! So bluish ink means fiscally used - yes?
Excuse my ignorance - but what does "bump" mean - I've seen it a lot on this thread??

Bump just means bumping the thread back up to the top so it doesn't disappear down the list if there isn't recent postings.

donaldo: Military Camp NZ (in little circle) and stamp is green half penny stamp. Avondale Military Camp and May 1912 postmark over stamp.
Can you upload it and save as a separate thing?

That is quite interesting donaldo, it is hard to know what will be of value in years to come apart from the earlier ones that are high value now.

i've found an old NZ stamp, i believe it usually has some value, but this copy has been hand cancelled and also has what looks like a very small hole punched in it, does anyone know what this could be from?

It has been used on a legal or business document where stamp duty had to be paid (it's called a "postal fiscal" stamp). A postally used copy in fine condition would be worth about $150. A fiscal like this one would probably be worth a maximum of $20.

Hi there ive started a thread which has a typo .. its 'Wooden black (block) with metal like stamp on back' i was told i might get more informative help here .. ------>ask in the stamp thread to see if they were used on envelopes by the PO around the dates mentioned in the dates mentioned - 1969 for the CORSO one & I think it was 1953 that the young queen & Prince Phillip came on a tour of NZ.. if so they might also have an idea of cost

If anyone can help me out please do.

Thank you

Hi All, I have a cover with some 1935 stamps on it including the 1d kiwi. This kiwi stamp is discoloured to a dark red/brown. I know that the 2d from this set is prone to changing colour to a dark brown. Is it also the case with the 1d kiwi? Or could it have been printed the different colour. Thanks in advance.

oxidation and sulphur produce some great shades- i suggest you dip a cloth in a little peroxide and then give the stamp/stamps a light quick wipe and hopefuuly you will be back to the correct colour

Thanks donaldo, I thought that it would likely be due to sulphur and not in the printing. It's interesting to see these stamps that are ' changelings'

There doesn't seem to be many buying the first day covers. Late last year I decided to collect earthquake material and it wasn't easy to find a pair of the Hawkes Bay Earthquake FDCs with the Wanganui pictorial postmark from 2006.

Availability-
at Post Offices in NZ annoys me. Posting parcels/letters from around the world, I always ask for and select attractive stamps. When I try the same in NZ, very few Post Offices carry a range of stamps, or are able to make up the values in 'special issues'. It's most disappointing when you are sending to a collector overseas and your only option is a pile of everyday 45c stamps.
I got a flat rate box from USA and the sender had covered the whole box in all types of stamps to the value of $47 ,it is so cool to see all the different stamps they make , ill keep all the stamps i get but am not a collector just a hoarder ,

If you list on TM @ $1 then for sure if you list a couple /3 photos as well you will get far more than a single bid !!
nothing to loose and you could be surprised !
