I don't have but would like one if it is on a printed cover. Alternatively, a Philatelic Bureau FDC with the hand cancel pictorial postmark would be nice.

Hi I'd like to start collecting stamps. Will probably just start with what is being sold on the postshop website. I've found a stamp design I would like to start with for my collection. They have lots of options to choose from when ordering stamps... Sets, First day covers, Single stamps, Stamp sheets and set configurations. So which would have the most value in many years to come? I guess if I gave this a good go it would be something to pass on to my children eventually.

Good to hear that you are taking up this fun hobby. It's hard to know what will have the most value in the future, it's a bit like wanting to have a crystal ball. It's my personal opinion to collect what you like the most and not to expect a return. I would steer away from sheets as they are expensive and don't seem to be worth a lot in the future. Keep in mind that if you buy directly from NZ Post you will be paying full face value. Often stamps sell for less on Trademe a few years after issue. If you don't want to spend too much money at the start you can buy some very good stamps on Trademe. I would advise you to get an NZ catalogue like Len Jury or ACS which cost around $10 and have all the NZ issues pictured. Other wiser people than I may have other tips for you. It's good that you have found this forum as there are some very knowledgeable people willing to share advice. I hope that this is a little bit of help for you.

Hay's centennial Poster stamp album of New Zealand Railway Engines 1840-1940. I have this album complete with all the stamps stuck in. I can find no mention of it on the web. Has anyone an idea of it's worth. TIA

Hi Donaldo.
Just searching the interweb and i found a post on another message board about watermarks.

me wrote:

In the sheet margins along the long edges were the watermarked letters of "New Zealand Postage" and on the short edges "New Zealand". If the sheet was printed off centre, stamps along the edge would be printed on the "letters"

Looking at the stamp image, this may look like this has happened. What do you think? the sheet printed off centre?

Thanks for your kind thoughts. I hope that all the other stamp people in Christchurch are OK. If anyone trading with me sees this message, I will be a little behind in posting as we haven't long had power back on. I will get things sent off as soon as possible.

i think that cp has not given enogh attention to the watermarks in this issue and that the cowan inverted is fairly common as is the letters watermark

Thank you Donaldo, for your input, muchly appreciated. you mention paper differences, this one is a whiter paper than the other 2 which have a more creamy look to it.

I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me about a 1998 New Beginning miniature sheet that I have. It doesn't have 'limited edition' on it but I though it might be from one of NZ Post's collector albums? I just haven't come across one before. Thanks in advance.
