I heard on the radio today that the new Royal stamps had a birthdate error.
It looks like it only relates to the related printed matter - not the stamps themselves

-wrong/tabid/417/articleID/203784/Default.aspx

Looks like they're reprinting it - so best to be quick to get one :)

1952 King George V1 lowest value in the set. Mint is worth about 50 cents, used about $1.

Thanks I googled hard but couldnt find it. : )
Just managed to get to the Post shop in time there were 3 sets of the royal stamps packed up waiting for someone to pick them up as they were being recalled I managed to get one.

I went to post office too but was a fraction too late and they pulled them off the shelf and wouldn't sell me one. They all have a date with the shredder. Can't image they sold many as not many people buy them but as a philatelic product this should be quite rare. I'll be buying the first one I see.

Oh, I so nearly bought a pack for my little girl yesterday, had it in my hand even, but then I thought I'd wait until her birthday.
Not going to be very popular when she finds out.

Can anyone please tell me why these are so cheap?: 362161244. I see they are imperfect, not mint and huckery looking but they would be the second oldest stamps in my album, I would have thought that a stamp that old would have cost much more? Are they real stamps or am I missing something?

I am contemplating putting my one on the Internet. It is a very beautiful piece even if it has a misprint. Does anyone have any idea what they would be worth? I am going to wait to see how many were released first though. Someone said around $100-00 on the news, but I think that would probably be for the first page.

They have recalled the misprinted version and are reprinting a corrected version

Will NZ Post intercept any in the system at this time?

Condition,Cancellation,Die,Mar-
gins how many printed all of these have a factor in the price.

I dont know but they had the one I got packed and ready to be recalled I was lucky they are offering a free exchange on their website for those that have the misprinted packs.I am just going to hang onto mine for a while and wait it out

Well I have noticed that because no one collects that much now its the newer stamps in my collection that are worth more when the new pack comes out with the correct printing I will buy that also and then at a later date sell both together whats more interesting one corrected pack or both together? Its just a thing of interest plus its the royal family of course it has interest.Look at all the posts in here about it.

The one with the error month printed in it will be best sold by itself and i'd suggest that sooner rather than later while people are chasing about for one.

Do you really think it will be better to sell right now ?Wont the value accumulate or will the interest just wear away?

If you were going to auction something like that what would your reserve be?

What are the best sort of stamp albums to put stamps into? Where can they be brought? and what if you have several of the same stamp do you keep them in the same pouch area together?

I took your advice KiwiSteven I have put it up and will just wait and see what happens. Its going to be an interesting one anyways. Thanks for the advice

You are wise to sell it now when there has been a lot of publicity about it. because the error is only on the supporting written information rather than on the stamp itself, the error will eventually fade from memory as time goes by and other discoveries are made. It should bring perhaps $50, perhaps more. let's see. It will be fun to see what it eventually goes for! Good luck.

I have the reserve high but if it reaches that I will be happy its had 32 views and I have 4 watchers I am guessing you will be keeping an eye on it as well but I thought well it is scarce the new packs arent out and there will be someone itching to have it just as an item of curiosity because thats really what it is.I know there wont be any bidding until the last minute so its just waiting but thanks for the advice you have been very kind to me I am completely new to all this.I am just waiting for my letter to arrive to be address verified.I added a couple of mint stamps to the first day cover I am trying to sell and tried to edit the pricing options but it didnt work I am just wondering if I would be best to withdraw and relist the items?

sonns79 - 2011-03-26 09:31:00
3127

It would be all very well to put it up now, but no one knows for sure how many of the misprint ones are in circulation. At present I know of 2. Mine and sonns79. And we still don't know if NZ Post will intervene and remove any that are in the process of being sent. Will they or won't they? Do they have that right once they are in the postal system?

pugmyre - 2011-03-26 10:23:00
3128

I know that they did post some out but I would guess that any packed and ready to be posted have been withdrawn. They are offering a free exchange to anyone that wants it and the stamps will be exactly the same its just the information in the pack thats faulty.

I'm really surprised you have a standing order for 10 packs.

These were being recalled Thursday I am also quite surprised as I assume NZ post would have cancelled any packed and ready to deliver. I had a job to actually get my hands on this.I was very fortunate at the shop as the one I purchased was packed and waiting to be collected for recall and had already been taken off the shelf. It took half an hour of discussion between the staff as to whether or not to sell me this.I only regret that I didnt purchase the other 2 packs but perhaps there was someone in the queue that was listening and made a spur of the moment purchase.Who knows its a curiosity and a rather interesting one.

. There is another on TM for sale (364116321) and also I found one on eBay.

I was talking to a friend in America last night he told me to check Ebay and I did find a couple his advice was to withdrawal it and wait because no one knows how many are in circulation so I might just do what your doing pugmyre and hang on to it for a while longer I think the one on Ebay sold for around $150 USD.I think I will withdraw it and watch the other auction and see how that goes.Last time I checked Ebay there were maybe 3 up for auction.I am surprised that people can still buy them in some places because they have already been withdrawn

I wouldnt want to take someones money when they have the opportunity to buy it at the regular price its immoral and unfair to the buyer.

Hi everyone, I know someone that's making broaches with used stamps showing the Christchurch Cathedral and selling them to raise funds for restoring the cathedral after the earthquake. Does anyone have any spare 1950 1d Canterbury Centennial stamps? I'm guessing that minimal postmarks would be best. If anyone has some for free or very cheap please let me know on here, via my auctions or e-mail me with my Trademe name at the ihug place. Thanks in advance.

Sadly less than 20 cents and in that condition nobody would be interested.
