Oh my .......!!!!!! Sue, they are so cool!!!! Can't wait to see them for real. Well done. I have done a couple of evenings on my cross-stitch but back to knitting last night. I haven't had a great start this morning as I. isn't well again. Could see it coming so why couldn't the people at his work. BECAUSE THEY DON"T WANT TO, that's why. I am so frustrated 'cos I can't fix this!

Its a shame I couldn't still do his last job, he enjoyed that and his health didn't suffer like it is now, poor man.
I'm still trying to get more things done ready for Monday, want to put a whole lot in to the patch.

Very nice Suzy. My grandchildren would love them. You have been very busy.

So sorry that hubby is not well grizzly. I have had a busy day again. My pregnant daughter was having strong contractions today so she is having bed rest. SIL is great and very supportive. She has 6 and a half weeks to go but seeing the specialist tomorrow. I have been on the phone all night with my work stuff. No knitting done today. I have a 6 am wake up so off to bed. I am feeling much better but still using tissues. Sigh.

It is a worry for you with your daughter having contractions this early. I hope things settle for another few weeks. I went with the Women's Group at work yesterday on a tour through Ballantynes. It was brilliant seeing everything that goes on behind the scenes of such a large department store and learning the history of the building etc. They also put on a complimentary morning tea in the Dilmah T House which was so beautifully presented and we learnt about the different teas and their processing. I tried a Mandarin tea. Absolutely wonderful morning and just what the doctor ordered for my own stress levels.

That sounds like a great morning grizzly. Did a typo there and called you frizzly. HA HA. My girl has settled down and is taking things easy. Now that she is officially off work, she will feel less stressed. I am packing my bag for the work in Rotorua. Now I am going to a dinner on Saturday night so that will be nice. One of the other girls and her Hubby (who is one of our most hardest working volunteers) is coming as well so our little group is growing. I have to write up the agenda for the first meeting on Saturday morning and one of the other members on the committee is driving me nuts because she is unsure of what she wants!!!! Any nonsence can go into general business. lol. Sometimes you feel like screaming. We cannot settle on mediation dates either and that is another pain in the butt. Ah well thems the breaks kid.

3058

There's nothing like finding a common date to wind you up!! These days I advocate for the people who turn down the first 2 suggestions not to go. If it's important enough to have a one-off meeting for, then it's important to juggle other commitments! Especially if people like yourself are travelling to attend. It's like when people threaten to leave committees rather than resolve conflict. My answer now is "Where shall we go for your farewell dinner?" Haha. Boy, have I toughened up over the years. But time is too precious to put up with all the drama.

Oh You make me feel so much better grizzly. I am known as the queen of the bitches or superbitch!!!! Plus most likely a number of other things. I am not deaf yet. My daughter told me she would lend me an old teeshirt if she still had it. She wore it years ago to Karate. It said" It is Miss Bitch to you a-sehole". I used to ask her why she wore it. Now I know. Lol. Well I am off until Tuesday night but will catch up while I am away. Have a nice weekend girls.

Had a lovely day yesterday! Was a lovely sunny day down here so only had a quick trip to the Mall where daughter S. bought me my first ever denim jacket. Can you believe it?! All the family was here for tea which I mis-timed and we were all fed by 4.50pm. Haha. So we took the boys for a walk in the very mild evening to the playground. Very peaceful day. (Except for Destructo-boy B2 who broke DIL's sunglasses, completely muddled all the settings on my heater, smashed an outdoor ornament and a toy helicopter!)

How are you feeling, smartgirl? I had a big run in with my doctor on Friday which I thought you and makerealbany would relate to! Only went for my prescription and he reminded me about a smear test which he thought was important due to previous high grade lesions!!!!! This was clearly showing on the computer screen in front of him. I just as clearly told him I had never had this condition and he argued that I had. HOwever in my actual file he could find no supporting evidence and I was able to point out the dates didn't fit as I knew how long ago since I had the last test. But that's not all! His computer was also telling him I had had a 'flu shot this year and had them annually prior to that. Do you think that I was able to convince him that I had never had one? In the end after tracking the form that you are supposed to sign on the day of your jab, it showed someone else's signature on a form with my details! And the dates didn't even match. Because of the cough they had always decide I wasn't well enough for the 'flu shot so I had never had one.
Am I inspired with confidence? Absolutely not!!

Oh My gosh grizzly. What a saga. Darn idiots. It is enough to make a girl throw up. Over the brilliant GP of course. Well you know the old saying. Rubbish in, rubbish out. I have just had to do reveiws of positions because our staff said they needed another worker. I checked all the stats and like hell they did. They were not impressed but we had all the actual data so I did an analysis of the stats and things had been written to include Clients on double lists and all that garbage. I love auditing. ho ho. Then someone wanted more hours so once again I did the stats trick and no. Just bad time management. Well I did feel the daggers for a few days. Lol. It was a very productive couple of days. I had meetings all day Sat. Did all the analysis on Sun until 4. Meetings all day Monday and did some training and payroll audits this morning. Ran out of the office at 1 and was home at 5-30. Must admit I had a great dinner on Saturday night. Had dinner with Mum and Sis on Sun night. Then I had to work until 9 on Monday so dropped Mum some lunch in before I left today. I bought some fab shoes on TM. They arrived fine but I bought another pair and they sent me a huge swearshirt instead? I have emailed them but someone has my other pair of shoes. I paid $6. 50 for the courier too. I looked at it when I opened it and I thought I know I am getting old but why would I bid on this. My youngest son is a big boy. 6ft 3 . This would drown him!!!! Ah well these things happen. But why to me. Lol.

All power to you!!!! Great work over the weekend, makerealbany! THink of the money you saved the organisation or the hours doing extra funding. Good on you. Siily them trying to get away with it with you on the job. Heehee! The Women's Group at work is having their 10th Anniversary this morning. I'm a little disappointed at the response considering over a hundred women have been actively involved over the years, even the City Council rep can't find the time despite funding the group for 10 years. Mind you I'm looking forward to catching up with some of the past members who I haven't seen in years. We've certainly had some laughs.

Oh grizzly we had a reunion at the Red Cross once and it was fab seeing all the old Volunteers. Sadly of course a lot of them had passed on but the ones that were at our function had a ball. Told us about all the old bosses who were male of course. It used to be very much an old Boy's club at the top. Lol. They got up to all sorts of mischief, my darling volunteers. We laughed and laughed. They all had a sherry which is most likely the reason they were so forthcoming. I found out who did what and to whom. Ha ha. I must admit I loved my ten years in the NZ Red Cross Society. Although it was a lot of hard work I met some very real people. Not the carbon copies of humanity that seem to be around these days.
M who is 2 and a half went to preschool for the first time today. My daughter and I left her there for an hour and a half. I was a nervous wreck at the Midwive's. Mary the midwife said we were pathetic and to;d us to go and get a coffee. M was very good they said. She was also very quite. That is so unlike our M girl. She is off again tomorrow for 2 hours but her Mum can take her. I am going to clean her house for her. It is less stressful. Ha ha. I am getting my shoes tomorrow. Poor seller contacted me. I have the box ready to be picked up. Told her not to stress about it. We all have fudgy days. Lol.

The anniversary morning went really well! It was great seeing faces I hadn't seen in years and a couple started remembering the fun they had had at the group and have decided to come back again. Being the introvert I am I was shattered by the time we had cleaned up. All that socialising did me in! Haha.

I sure am looking forwards to a weekend of knitting at home. Spent the night at the beach and little K was awake at 5. T left for work at 6 so Nana was pretty tired by 5 tonight. Lol. A left M at preschool for 3 hours today with strict instructions that if M got upset to ring her. Well when she went to pick her up, a very teary M told Mummy off for leaving her. She cried and cried so they said and the idiots did not ring. I have strong suspicions that M will not be going back there. I will wait and see but A HAS LOST TRUST IN THEM NOW!!!! I do have those New Trust Deeds for our organisation to peruse and send a report by Monday. Duh. I only got them given to me on Monday so I am going to ask for a delay. Forgot to tell you Grizzly that our Non Profit O was left a house in a will. This happened a year ago and it will be signed over but there is conflict about the deal. Do we put it in another trust and get independant trustees that have nothing to do with our O, etc, what will be best for funding purposes, yahdah yahdah. Will I have had a heavy week and they can darn will wait. We waited for a year. I want to relax and knit, in that order. I will of course be shopping first thing in the morning for delicious snacks in preparation. Ha ha.

I have just turned on tv and have seen the news about the earthquake in Christchurch. Grizzly I hope you and all your family are safe, and that you have not been too badly affected. I have text makereal to let her know. We cant wait to hear from you that all is ok. My son in law was there last week as it is part of his area for his job. He came home last night thank goodness. Take care everyone.

3074

Hi ya grizzly. Smartgirl has been in contact with me as she said. I had no idea and then rang my grandson who is ok. He said there was no damage near him but I woke him up so he most likely had not even gone outside.!!!!!! Hope everything is okay for you all.

really big quake, we stood under the doorway for what seemed like ages, i work in a rest home and i am in charge this weekend so went in early at 5.30am, what a mess, celings down, walls cracked, floor uneven , only one injured resident, she has a broken elbow, got her seen quickly, no water though so 60 residents are using 6 porta potties at the moment we have a big hole out the back to empty them in to , nothing else we can do. At least everyone is ok and the building can be repaired or rebuilt, everyone is just soooooooo lucky. Heard from Grizzly, she is fine so are her family. Just cant believe the roads, big cracks like you see on movies, just crazy and so unreal.

Oh thanks for the update suzy. How horrible for you all. My grandson slept through it all. Only comment I have so far from him is that uni is off until the 13th. Duh!!!!!! Young people live in a world of their own. No doubt more news will be forthcoming from him.

makerealbany - 2010-09-04 20:58:00

Hi there, thank you for thinking about us. We definitely moved to the right house. No damage as yet, a few things fell over but didn't break and the motorbike fell and hit my freezer in the garage leaving a huge dent. But what the hell, it still works now we have power again so who cares? I. and I made it to the door of the bedroom but were both thrown out into the hall way, him landing on his bad knee which is badly bruised and me landing on him (poor man). We were then thrown the other way and I hit the door jam. I have a black, swollen leg from the first fall and and a dark purple patch on my lower back from the door jam.
Both my kids and their families were here by 5.30am yesterday morning although we were all huddled under blankets in candlelight until the sun rose but safe at least. By 10 hubby and son had to go hunting and gathering to find food that didn't need heating so we could feed the we ones. They had honey sandwiches about 7 but that used up all the bread. Remember we gave our bbq away to daughter when we moved? But her house was trashed with broken glass so couldn't go there. These things always happen just before our grocery day! Same thing happened in the Big Snow of '92!!Haha. Storing canned food is fine only if you have a means to heat it. But we managed and had power back by 11am.
It's the aftershocks which are really scary, I have to say. My son's house is on the banks of the river so it's his street they show on tv with the multi levels in the road. He has those same levels in his drive.
It could have been so much worse for us all when you look at the buildings in town. So very sad.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-05 10:13:00
3078

I spent 3 hours this afternoon going with I. to check on his properties. It was very therapeutic just doing something to help someone and I was too nervous to stay home alone with the after shocks! My 3 girls are so terrified, Flurry was away the whole day on Saturday and came back more black than white so had found a dark hole somewhere to hide outside. She and Mac haven't eaten since Friday night. Jinx is a bit more settled as long as I. is around. There is nothing I can do to help them, it's so awful.
We saw a lot of the problems in some of the suburbs shown on tv while we were out. Apart from the CBD the worst affected areas are near the rivers. Two of the houses we saw will be demolished I think, both lovely places. I can't believe the mess from burst water pipes. You drive past a crack in the tarseal to realise that there is nothing under the tarseal in places, just a crust. Very scary. Some of the after shocks this afternoon were still up to level 5 and of course just loved hearing on the news we could get ones up to 6 yet. That news is just what we want to hear as it gets dark again. The rest home on the news tonight is where suzy59nz is working. Must be really hard for those residents.
With the schools closed for the next 2 days I can bring some work home to do and it gives our Manager to get back to Christchurch to make the hard decisions from Wednesday, thank goodness. I have to figure out a way to work that finds a safe bridge to cross the river as I can't drive through the inner city. All very stressful.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-05 20:01:00
3079

Oh My gosh Grizzly and I was complaining about a bad storm the other night duh!!!! You have coped really well girl. So has Hubby. The poor cats. Animals take awhile to settle down again. Not much different from us really. My grandson said he hated the aftershocks. He still had power so they were lucky. I think it was cool that all your family came over. That says volumes about how close your family is grizzly. Hope things get easier for you all.

makerealbany - 2010-09-05 21:26:00

Just got back from the beach. Daughter worked another afternoon to 11 shift. Raining again. Had a good day. My proposals accepted at work. Yippee.

makerealbany - 2010-09-07 01:37:00
3081

Well that was a terrible night! 5 big after shocks between 11.30pm and 3.30am. Didn't sleep much. The stress is taking its toll even on people who haven't suffered much damage, everyone is exhausted and very emotional now. It's raining today which won't help the people trying to get rid of that awful sludge. My son came over for his first shower since Friday yesterday and we bathed the boys as well. Did some washing for them and sent them home with 20 litres of water. 6 and a half of it pre-boiled. I feel useless, I just don't know what else to do until they don't want to go back to their house.
It's getting to the point where there is no where to feel safe and no-one can say (Obviously) when we will get that back. Sorry guys, just tired.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-07 08:16:00
3082

know how you feel Grizzly, had the worst day ever today, my resthome has been evacuated, it was so sad, the look on the residents faces as they left, they are just so lost , thank goodness 18 all went together to the same place, the other 15 go tomorrow and then the village residents are being relocated to a hotel, once the village side is repaired and water and sewage re instated they will go back in. Looks like a lot of us will loose our jobs, i have been there almost 10 years, dam this earthquake.

suzy59nz - 2010-09-07 17:15:00
3083

My heart goes out to you girls, I cant even begin to imagine how awful it is for you and your families. I have seen heaps of tv coverage and pics but I imagine I would have to be there to know what you are going through. I imagine the worst thing is that when all the aftershocks stop then it will only begin to start going forward. Do you know how your old place fared grizzly. Suzy, I hope you dont loose your job. Those poor old things must be so confused.

smartgirl - 2010-09-07 17:58:00
3084

I keep visualizing those poor senior citizens. The darlings are frail enough without this Suzy. Bugger that earthquake. Yes you may lose your job for awhile but they have to rebuild and they will want to get things in order asap. Probelm is there will be a lot of work and not enough tradesmen to repair things. I cannot imagine what it is like going through the aftermath of an earthquake. No matter how many Emergency Preparedness courses you take and teach, theory is very different from the emotional wrenching of the real thing. I run around like a loon when the lights flicker here because of power cuts. I check my torchs and emergency stuff on a regular basis. People think I am daft at times but I don't care what they think. I have a big box of candles I have hoarded( so my kids say). I always have a pantry full of tin stuff and dried foods. I always make sure the gas cylinder for the barbi is full. Even though I do all these things would that help in an emergency? Depends what and where?

makerealbany - 2010-09-07 19:07:00
3085

Chin up grizzly. It will get better. The kids must feel okay there in their home. Yes my grandson hates the aftershocks. He is a quiet boy anyway so he does not talk that much about it. You must all be emotionally drained and very tired. Try and rest when you can or else you will end up running on empty girl. Lots of love and hugs xxxxx.

makerealbany - 2010-09-07 19:12:00
3086

No way will I stay in the house on my own after dark so was out in the car with I. again as he had tenants finding damage when they came home from work. Some of them are quite young and just need to be told their house is ok. Other houses that are empty are having their alarms going off and not resetting. He is the one running on empty.
That big shock a wee while ago was a hell of a way to start the day.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-08 08:33:00
3087

i was at work serving bacon and eggs to the remaining residents when the big after shock came this morning, i just put my arms around a couple of the residents and told them it was ok and to just hold on to the table, then had to carry on as normal, with my hands shaking. The rest home is now empty, just the studio and apartments to empty and they go tomorrow, they are being put in to an apartment block and i am going with them to help care for them so my job is safe, but after my boss told me this she said it was a conversation thet we NEVER had, as she has not spoken to any other staff, she just wanted to let me know, so i am feeling a lot better now. When i left tonight i said to her onwards and up she said no onwards and down lol. down to ground level and rebuild.

suzy59nz - 2010-09-08 16:08:00
3088

I cried when I read more message, suzy59nz.... It's the time of the day I dread the most now. Getting dark and having to face another night. I am usually the first to close the drapes to close out the world but now I keep putting it off. It's a really bad sign for an introvert to need to know there other people close by.
The Service Station across the road had a split in the forecourt yesterday, today there was fuel mixed with the water leaking out of it. Lots of experts turned up and there was a risk we would be evacuated just in case but a couple of hours later it seemed to be all sorted and cleaned up and the place is open again, thank goodness. They have shortened hours these days but it's great to have their lights on just across the road for awhile in the evenings.
My boss is back now and we are all meeting tomorrow for a plan of action. Not much we can do with the schools still shut and I have all my work here anyway. Just wasn't up to doing any today though.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-08 18:39:00

Oh grizzly that aftershock this morning must have scared the wits out of you. My grandson was shaken. We wanted to fly him home but he has exams coming up so he said he will stay. He cannot sleep at night and said he dozes off during the day. He is so far away that we are worried for him but he says not to. The news pics are dreadful and it is obvious that people are nervous wrecks. Thank heavens the Prime minister is getting Local Government to shortcut red tape crap in order to get renovations, etc on the way. I must admit I am not sleeping well at night because of my grandson and I am dozing a bit during the day as well. I have him on best mate and if I ring and he doesn't answer I check online to see if he is on. What a stalker Nana!!!!!!

That is great about your job suzy. Not so great about the rest of your news. I just had a call from a friend and her elderly Dad just passed away in Rotorua. I cannot go to the funeral because A is pregnant. Due Oct 9. M is too much of a handful for her as she has just finished work and she is worn out. Plus her hubby is away overseas and so is my other SIL. I am really needed here at this time.I will send some flowers. One cannot be in half a dozen places at once can we girls?

makerealbany - 2010-09-08 20:31:00
3091

You poor girls. I have watched the videos of the quake and seen the pictures but I cant imagine what it is like for you to live down there.
You must wonder when it will all end. No wonder you cant get into your work grizzly. Suzy, a friend of mine had a dad who has been shifted from his retirement home too. They are very worried about him. My friend has just started cancer treatment so is in no position to go down to him.

smartgirl - 2010-09-08 20:35:00

It was good to hear this morning that our water was ok to drink now and waiting to hear if my son has water at all again. I think I will keep boiling for a wee while yet. THoughT I had was coming down with something nasty last night but it's just nerves, I think. You are right it would be great to have all the repair work started for people but it would be much better to have the after shocks stop! I never expected them to be just as big as the earthquakes we normally get. Those ones in the 5's are causing as much damage 'cos everything is weakened. My girls are going to need pet counselling soon. Jinx has put on so much weight as she eats everything when the other 2 aren't interested. Flurry needs some sedatives, I think.

grizzly4 - 2010-09-09 07:58:00
3093

A wole me early this morning with bad contractions. My eldest daughter called in on her way to work and stayed 3 hours checking her sis. They stopped again at 11 but we sent her to bed to rest. She has been doing far too much and this little begger will come early. I just feel it in my bones if you know what I mean. It was no good sending her to the hospital as they will only send her home again when contractions stop as she is too early. I am up at 5 tomorrow to go and mind the other kids. If she starts again I will bring little K back home because the teenagers are at school. Bloody SILS are both away. I sometimes think I am married to my daughters. HA HA. We will cope though. At lest we have power and good water. Yes I would boil it for awhile grizzly. Who knows what the hell is happening with the water supply. OMG those people who have lost their homes or whose homes are so damaged they cannot live in them. How awful. I watched the children on TV and there will have to be a lot of patient parents for awhile. Poor kids. Those parents who bunk in with the kids are really sensible. Everything takes time and this trauma those kids have and are still experiencing will take a long time to heal. My grandson says he feels safe but I think that is just his way of trying not to worry me. It is not working.

makerealbany - 2010-09-09 22:23:00
3094

Gosh I actually slept properly last night! Still at home as the schools are still closed. It helps having my work to do here, concentrating on it helps the edge of the after shocks. It really is a waiting game, so lots of knitting being done, too. So far this week I have crocheted a blanket and knitted prem bootees and wee sox in a pile for the shop on Monday.
I was very excited for my son when he was supposed to have water on yesterday. But there is a pipe broken to his house so yes he now has water but it flooded his property while he was at work! You know the old saying: "Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink....."?

grizzly4 - 2010-09-10 08:15:00
3095

That was not so good about the water grizzly. I guess lots of people there will have the same probelm. Went up to the beach at 5.30 this morning then A rang about 10 having bad contractions 5 mins apart. Raced down with little K, picked up M and her Mum. Off to the midwifes. Met my other girl there. More blood tests etc. So darn stressful. Baby is fine. He could come at any time but A needs more rest. My 15 year old granddaughter has come to stay for the weekend to help out as we are all exhausted. Miss M knows something is up so is very clingy. I am off to a long soak in the bath.

Hi grizzly. A is 8 months. She rested today and did not have any contractions thank heavens. Baby is bigger thanM was at this stage so he is a resonable size. Hopefully she can hang on for a bit. She is on a course of antibiotics so we will see. Yes it is a worry because I am afraid to leave her alone. My teenage granddaughter has been a great help in keeping miss M occupied. I was able to dash off and get a haircut and do all the shopping for A today. I am trying to finish all the Merino singlets in case he comes early. The weather is so changable he will need them. Raining again here.

A friend of mines daughter had a baby girl last Friday, she was 29 weeks, baby weighed 1.4kg and is doing really well, so dont worry Makerealalbany i'm sure your daughter and her baby will be fine, babies seem to be born more often early these days for some reason, i think its cos we live in such a busy active world. If they knew what sort of world they were coming in too i'm sure they wouldn't be in such a rush to be born.
Aftershocks seem to be getting less down here , thank goodness. My rest home is def a rebuild, but the management had indemnity insurence so we all get paid for 12 months, i am looking after our village residents at the moment in a hotel, very flash. Just glad i can still pay my bills.

The biggest aftershocks seem to happen when I'm in the shower in the morning, thank goodness. Can't feel them in there and you don't hear the rumbling and rattling of stuff.
Had rather a cruisy day yesterday, replenishing stuff in the survival kit like butane for a wee cooker and a larger water container. Also bought strawberry and tomato plants for the green house. That is the project for today. I. even started digging over the vege garden yesterday but will have to be done in stages because of his knee. L3 came over for a visit, saw the partially dug up garden and said he was sorry the quake had messed up our garden, too. (Remember they are in Avonside.) Later that day he came to help me in the bedroom fold up the laundry and asked " Does your house wggle, Nana?" I said sometimes and only a lttle bit thinking he was a bit nervous "That's good 'cos my Mum's scared of wiggles and I have to look after my brother and can't look after her too" So cute. His brother is a staunch 5 and I'm not sure how he'd feel about being looked after by the wee squirt in the family.

Glad to hear your job is ok for a year suzy. Hotel living will be hard for the residents. I guess they will adapt after time. My Mum who is in her 80s is very set in her ways and prefers it at home now because she can remember where everything is. Yes my daughter is a worry but we are all feeling positive but worn out. Ha ha. Miss M who is 2 is being a right little madam. She senses things are not normal. We try and ignore some of her naughty antics. As long as the activities are not harmful.
