I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
3001

Thankfully it takes a lot to keep me awake at night.

Ive figured this pattern out. I knew I was doing something wrong and I think I miscounted a row in a not shaped section. So undid that and and now back on track. The wool is going quite a long way too. I should say acryilic, Its a cheapie but nice and soft.

Love wrapping pressies...

Pork and something cheesy for tea. Either Alfredo or a potato bake. I like cheese with pork Yumm

morning ladies :) Glad you figured out the pattern popeye, it's a lovely jacket/cardy :). I love the ruffle down the front.

Not good carole, you may need some help with this not sleeping, maybe doc or one of those health shops?

I've been outside burning the tree we cut down last week since 6.30am. Wanted to make the most of a cool, windless morning. Am going to get some baking done today, shortbread I think to start with. The only time we eat shortbread is Christmas time. Need to get to the library before it shuts down for the holidays.

Might get some stitching done this afternoon.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
Carole Id get yourself off to the drs, You need help with sleep . it affects the rest of your life. We know how bad it can be cos MrP has just been through it for 7 plus years.
Hes now sleeping like a log.

Am up the the armhole on the jacket front. The silly thing is Im using the instructions for the Left side, but knitting what will be the right lol... Im all back to front. Havent a clue how that happened but Ill make sure I don't make two the same.

We are the same with Shortbread Kiwimade. MrP loves it but it is our Christmas bikkies. I make a double choc chip peanut brownie for easter, well used to. I only make them now if family are coming. we just don't need it.
Our gardener didn't turn up yesterday. Not greatly happy about that.and by the looks of the weather it wont be any good to be spraying anything.

Our library is shut. They closed on 7th so they can remodel everything and make it much bigger. Not that I go there often now. I use my ereader heaps. Much better than having to lug 8-10 books home a month.

Not many plans today so will get some knitting done

I have started another group on fb. Yarn/Wool swappers . For those looking for a wee bit of something to complete an item. or those who want to swap wools with anyone. Feel free to join.

Have just finished the front I started on Monday before we went to MrPs clinic appointment.
Considering I totally mucked up the pattern. The increasing and decreasing is in the right places.
Ill put it down to heat exhaustion on Monday by the time we got home.

Now shall I go by the other front pattern or do the same one again and hope to get it right lol
Im not going to put the buttonholes in it. Cos I don't like things "done up". So , so long as the increasing and decreasing's are in the right place it will be fine lol.
Im doing it in a nice rich darker wine red colour. Plus a few white and ginger cat hairs lol

morning girls, are you a fast knitter popeye? got a better nights sleep been sewing for a hour now , lucky yesterday was cooler with the air con not working, sewing and shopping today, who hates time wasters I did a lot of sewing for a lady, she was suppost to pick up a week ago , sent emails no show, did not sit up knitting last night

carolev - 2013-12-19 06:36:00
3008

morning ladies, how frustrating carole, especially with her not being in touch.

One more gift to buy and I'm done with shopping. Will wrap pressies and finish baking today. Was lovely and cool yesterday - even had a cardy on in the evening. Cut down tree is all ash this morning. I took some panadol before I began dragging the branches over to the fire and that did the trick with my wrist.

I have a cross stitch I did several *cough 15 years ago, cough* years ago for one of the kid's bedrooms. Then money got tight and I never framed it. Daughter (omg where does she get her memory from!) remembered it not long ago and asked if Maddy could have it. Had it tucked away in my work basket and it still looked fine, no yellowing or anything. So washed and pressed it, laced it onto a board yesterday and am taking it into town to price a frame. probably a bit late for Christmas but that's OK.

Will get some stitching done this afternoon, am determined of it!

Happy knitting :)

Morning Ladies.
Glad to hear you had a better night Carole. And soo annoying about that lady being a no show. It costs money for fabric let alone the time you put into the work eh.
Glad the meds have helped your wrist Kiwimade. Lovely idea about having the crossstitch framed for Maddies room.
It was cooler yesterday. I didn't even have my fan on in the evening. And only on one overnight.
I think I can knit quite quickly Carole. I pick it up anytime Im in my lounge chair.
I discovered where I went wrong. the first row hahaha. It says to increase in the Last stitch of the row, Not the First lol. which is what I did.
Teach me not to concentrate, lol. But I wanted to get some done before we left for the clinic lol.
Have done about 6 inches of the left front now .. the real left front lol

Have to go and waste money on groceries this morning. Shouldn't be anything like last weeks shop tho.
Have a fab day everyone.

I just been to supermarket $248 b h I said that's a lot, legs of lamb $22 each big ones was a great deal

carolev - 2013-12-19 16:11:00
3011

Wow think of how much fabric and wool that would buy Carole.

In the last fortnight we have spent $350 on Food etc.

Mind you I do have 3 freezers full and a huge pantry in the garage Plus the cupboards in the kitchen.

Why???

I have this built in fear of running out of food, and not having enough food.

The only reason I can think of why I am like this. Is a previous life.
Its really weird. I feel most at home in the kitchen, love cooking etc. Hate the dishes.
I also feel most content reading books about the maids servants of the 1890-1910 era. I think I must have been a scullery maid in a previous life.
Give me a coal range and Im far happier than with an electric stove.
First time I cooked on MrPs fathers coal range it was like I had done it for many years.

I just like having heaps of food handy. lol

Havent done a lot of knitting today. Will sit and knit while coro is on tho

popeye333 - 2013-12-19 17:29:00
3012

I did knit and watch coro too. morning all. bit cooler today only 8.6 outside. finished sewing till next lot comes in don't know what to knit next but did get a good sleep. off to hang washing out. yes popeye I like full food cupboards too, must have been when the kids where young and their father left us we went without food

morning ladies :) Our grocery bill was rather large too this week but we are expecting our son home tomorrow (yayyy!!!!!!) so like to have his 'favourites' in the pantry lol. I can guarantee he will ask for mac 'n cheese and the choc chip biscuits I make :). Daughter and her family will be here Christmas Eve, five sleeps!

MrK is pulling the beetroot we planted a few weeks ago today so I will be bottling that today. Housework today and tomorrow back to painting sister's house.

Had the cross stitch priced for framing yesterday (the one I did around 15 years ago) and oucchhhhh.... it's going to have to wait until next year. MrK reckons he can make me a frame so I'll wait and see if that happens lol. Here's a pic of it (just noticed I need to clean the 'lip' of the draws, dammm how did I miss that when spring cleaning the kitchen... grrr...)

Morning everyone.... Nice start to the day so far. Fine but not too hot.

Im up to the armhole of the left front now. Don't have too much happening today so will be able to knit.
All my shopping baking and cleaning is done. Apart from a normal clean on sunday.
Be soo good to have your family home Kiwimade. Have to admit to cooking the shortbread cos I know MrPs brother likes it as much as MrP does. I aim to please lol...hes like a kindred spirit with me. We have a lot of fun together .
I did my first swap on my facebook group late yesterday so pleased its going well in there

Love the Cross stitch Kiwimade, a great pic for a babies room. framing is shocking eh. What about keeping an eye out on frames in the warehouse etc and doing it yourself?

3 more sleeps till our family arrives. Cant wait lol.

Have a good day everyone

Took 20x 100grm balls of wool. Approx $80 worth from Deramores.

evening ladies, haven't been here for a while 'cos while I was out on Tuesday afternoon we had a spectacular electrical storm and the house was struck by lightning and fried my wireless modem - dead as a dodo. Mr K said the bang was quite frightening. He was home with the cat and they were both just about deafened. When I got home and found I had no internet and realised it was the modem, I dug out the old modem and tried that but could only get the power button to light up, not the other three, so have been waiting for "chorus" to come and fix the problem, which they did late this morning, he said we got away lightly with just the dead modem. Hubby says when he worked at telecom he went to a house where all the pots and pans were hanging about the stove and they were all welded together when the house was struck by lightning! I've been busy all day - don't ask me what I've done, because I don't seem to have achieved much. Not having the internet meant I knitted more and nodded off more in the during the evening. The possum/merino tunic is finished all except for picking up stitches around one armhole and knitting five rows and sewing up the two side seams. Yay.

My son has just spent a few days in hospital with an infected elbow so he's been on iv antibiotics but he went home today - his cat and dog will be pleased to see him home.

Mr K was summonsed back to the doc yesterday to discuss the results of his blood tests which he had last week. His cholesterol is high and he is "pre-diabetic" so has to watch his sugar intake and his fat intake and I have to watch my salt intake so between us we're a right pair.

Right, better go and check my emails, I've had heaps come through while I've been "away".

kuaka - 2013-12-20 22:14:00

that should be "hanging above the stove"

kuaka - 2013-12-20 23:51:00

morning! Omg kuaka, I feel justified now in unplugging the TV and internet when we have an electrical storm now! MrK always laughs when I do it and says what's the chances... Our nieghbour's (MrK has conveniently forgotten this lol) house was struck by lightening when we lived in town and she lost her fridge and everything plugged in! So yes, you did get off lightly. But very frightening all the same.

Painting my sister's house again today and picking son up from the bus stop this evening so not much stitching will get done. Oh well, all in a good cause.

Happy knitting :)

morning girls. nice warm sunny day. kuaka we got hit by lighting a last year but Tony had made lighting protectors and all that happen was the fuse blow. I am so lucky he is so clever, I took the day off yesterday and went and saw friends of mine that tony dislikes as he is now off for a month luck me not. will be going back to my blanket now. and also I have found a hearbel thing that has fixed my sugars and colresto , olive leaf extraed from the health shop my sugar and that has come down heaps 1 teaspoon full 3 times a day with meals. it's fantastic. enjoy your family home kiwi,

carolev - 2013-12-21 07:50:00

Morning everyone,.

Kuaka you are the second one that I know to have lost stuff from an electrical strike. My friend lost her modem, tv, dvd player and cordless phone... And they were all plugged into a surge protector. Glad everything is up and running now tho.
Amazing what you can get done with theres no internet eh.

Oh Kiwimade it doesn't matter about any stitching while your family is home. They are far more important... I bet you will be cooking favourites as well as keeping the pantry full of their fave things.

Carole Your lucky to have a man that will do the electrical stuff. we cant really in this rented house. but its one time I wpouldnt mind if we were talking to MrPs little brother who is a sparky. he could put plugs etc but alas that will never happen.
Kuaka watch the carbs too for diabetes, they are the worst thing and increase protein. Have protein with every meal.

I totally forgot to get MrPs insulin yesterday. So he hasn't had any this morning. Have to wait till the chemist is open. not happy with myself about that either.

The gardeners did an awesome job last night. They have cleared the garden and foot path so MrP is able to walk down there now if he wants. Have left the self sewn scarlet runners on the fence so we will have a few fresh beans.

Finished the second front of my jacket last night. So will start the back later.

Have an awesome day everyone..

Ive had an awesome Day..

Kicked off with one of "my Boys" calling me from Perth. admittedly he was rigning to find out the correct number to ring his mum on. Cos he had it wrong. But its been 16ish since I saw him last. He used to board with us.
And just spoke to a friend who used to live here but moved to Paeroa mid year.
Have started the back of my jacket.
Only housework left for the weekend is the floors.. and then we are fit enough for visitors lol.

Hope everyone elses day has been awesome

popeye333 - 2013-12-21 17:54:00
3024

Paeroa ?? That's where my Mr K grew up - born near Westport, but spent all his childhood and youth in Paeroa. Probably a slightly worse place than where I grew up, at least we were a seaside town, even if the sea did freeze in winter!

What a job we've had today, emptied Kuaka out of 10 years of accumulated junk, rubbish, spare clothing, spare bedding (just in case) etc etc. Several dinghy loads later and she looks quite tidy and we are both exhausted, as in absolutely exhausted. Going to have an early night, a sleep in and a lazy day (although I might mow the little lawn) but apart from unload a van-load of "stuff" and find somewhere to put it all, I don't plan much for tomorrow.

Night all.

kuaka - 2013-12-21 21:19:00
3025

morning :) Our son made it home safely and we have a very excited Furry One lol. He just loves our boy. Got lots of painting done yesterday in between watching the cricket :P.

I'm exhausted just reading what you did yesterday kuaka, wow, what a massive job you both had.

Going to quickly weed the garden and trim the edges - won't take long. I sooo love this lol, the 'reward' for all the hard work is half an hour to weed instead of a week! Might even get some stitching done if the rain kicks in.

Happy knitting :)

morning all. looks like rain, so did not put the water on this morning,. no knitting or sewing today, slept well , are you selling the boat ?? I dislike water so won't have one, well off to do nothing catch you all later

carolev - 2013-12-22 07:06:00
3027

Morning everyone.
Wow what a big job Kuaka. Mind you when we moved out of our Bus into a house it took a couple of weeks to empty.. not that we were rushing things but I had a lot jammed into that bus.
Im Taurean I like my "stuff" lol
Ask MrK if he knew any of the Scott family in Paeroa.. My uncle George used to manage the local hardware paint shop many years ago. The rest of the clan were scattered around Turua and Hikutaia.

So pleased the Furry one is happy to have your Boy home Kiwimade. I suspect Mum is happy too.
Its lovely to have nice clean gardens eh. Bobcat came in this morning with dirt up to his knees lol.
Hard to say what our weather is going to do here. Windy tho which is good. MrP will water the passionfruit vine and the beans, they need it.
Have a good day doing nothing Carole, I bet you will end up doing something tho.
Im feeling just under par today. so other than vacuuming it will be a quiet one for me too.
Have a good day everyone.

popeye333 - 2013-12-22 08:33:00
3028

yes, sad day really - I always cry when we sell a boat, but we still have the ketch (Kuaka was our little "day fishing boat" - she has two bunks but we never overnighted in her) but with my namesake gone, I feel sort of bereft, almost "homeless" so to speak, so now we start the process in reverse and start loading the ketch so that we can go away on her. We unloaded her a while back as we were planning on selling her too, but we've decided now we just have one boat to keep her at least in the meantime, and steadily tart her up so she is in a marketable condition, because really we would like a launch rather than a sail boat. We will take several days taking "stuff" out to her (including knitting wool and needles, crochet hook, patterns, food, clothing, fuel etc) and then the final trip will be perishables, and the cat. Wonder what the cat will think of it. Our old cat used to hate the trip to the boat in the dinghy but once on board she loved it. Mr K reckons this one is daft enough to swim ashore. Hope to get away sometime between Christmas and New Year, and plan to stay away for a week or two. Take twice as much food as you need for the time you intend to be away, as the weather always turns against you and you can't get home.

It's been raining this morning so I guess I won't be mowing the lawn today, at least not till it dries out, but I might go to the supermarket and waste some more money but mainly I shall relax today.

Happy knitting everyone.

It will be sad Kuaka. I know we missed our bus big time.. But after MrP had his heart attack, while driving it we had to make that decision.
Lol at the cat being daft enough to swim out to the boat.
Our girl cat loved having baths. But Bobcat hate it, yet he would stand in the wheelbarrow when it was full of water.. the silly thing. Be 9 years tomorrow since we got him.
Im all done housework wise now. And IM on strike. Ill cook but the others can do the dishes.
No doubt my SIL will find something to keep herself amused .. she always brings knitting or crochet but likes cleaning so she can do as she pleases lol

morning ladies :) Sorry to hear about T's uncle, carole. Very sad especially close to Christmas.

When I garden, the Furry One sits at attention with his back to me a couple of metres away as if he is protecting me. It's almost like, 'I've got ya back Mum, you can carry on!' MrK always laughs when he sees it but I love it. Our old labby did something similar too. And when we had cats, they would attack anything that we moved in the garden lol... miss them.

Need to dig out the mouse trap as I suspect we have one inside. The Furry One has been 'snuffling' around the wall unit and trying to dig under the lino to get to something behind it. Dad found one inside his home drinking from the dog's water bowl so I suspect it has come in looking for water. Well it won't be looking for long!

Lawns to mow and the ham to pick up from the butcher and that's pretty much it for the day. Will get some stitching done too. Daughter and her wee family home tomorrow!

Happy knitting :)

Did a bit of knitting last night,. But Ill get more done todaty. the boys will watch the goggle box.
Sounds like the furry ones watch you guys like bob does when I sew.

Getting excited to see Maddy Kiwimade?

Ill be back later to keep an eye on things

ohhhh yesss we are lol. Son has asked, 'so! when is my sister delivering my niece to me to spoil?' lol.

Lawns are mowed and edges done. Garden is looking just awesome, am really chuffed with it. Was lovely and cloudy while I mowed and sun came out just as I emptied the last catcher load. Perfect timing.

MrK is going to get the ham so I don't have to go anywhere. Son has made his request for mac n cheese lol so I'll get that made shortly. Always make it from scratch.

Looks like I'll get some stitching done :)

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-12-23 10:03:00
3037

Well I had three attempts at posting on here this morning, halfway through the first time, it all just vanished - no idea what I did, then I was busy typing again and the phone rang (son to say he was coming north and would call in), again everything I had typed disappeared, then third time, Mr K was talking in my ear and I couldn't concentrate so I just gave up.

I mowed the little lawn this morning, then spent some time with son, then went shopping, got diesel, gas bottle, checked mail, home and unloaded all the groceries (what a waste of money - oh if only we didn't need to eat!) and then had a doctors appointment (just for bp check - wasn't too bad 130/85) considering I was feeling a bit like a piece of chewed string by the time I got there.

So now ladies, I have a question for you. Am I being over-sensitive ?

Mr Ks grandson sent me a message yesterday asking if we would be home at new year. I replied that I wasn't sure as we are getting ready to go away on the boat for our first holiday in over 12 years, and that his grandad has been very unwell for months, and I'm pretty exhausted from trying to do everything myself and looking after Mr K, and we both really need this holiday. So he comes back with "that's awesome if you do go away but if you are at home, can I stay at your place as all my mates are coming up. How are you both?"

I thought it was a flipping cheek. He's just turned 17 and the other day was bragging on fb about him having yet another hangover and he obviously doesn't want to come and stay with us to enjoy our company, it's just a convenient place to doss down so he can go out on the town with his mates. We never hear from him from one year to the next and he obviously didn't read what I had written or he would know his grandad hasn't been well for months. I said to Mr K I know he's your grandson but I honestly don't feel like putting our holiday on hold and then waiting up for him half the night worrying about where he is and him coming home sozzled at some ungodly hour of the night/morning. Then I think to myself "I must be getting old!" What do you think?

Right, going to do some knitting.

Night all.

kuaka - 2013-12-23 21:35:00
3038

Have your holiday and don't get used. Invite him to come and stay with you for a weekend when you are home. Good luck.

ffloss - 2013-12-23 22:37:00
3039

thanks ffloss - other times when we've suggested he comes to stay with us for a weekend or for a week during the school holidays his mother is too busy to bring him, and when I suggests she puts him on the bus she says "no, I couldn't do that, there's some real weirdos around". He's over 6 foot tall so I doubt he'd be likely to get kidnapped from the bus in broad daylight.

Yes, we are going to start loading the boat tomorrow. I hope the fish are biting when we get out there!

kuaka - 2013-12-23 23:18:00
3040

morning ladies. Kuaka I won't tell him any more plans coss if he knows your away he could brake in and stay, that's what would worry me. last day shopping just got to get Keegan a small something. drop off sewing take grandkids out, where is this rain they keep talking about my lawns brown all ready, finished off a shrug last night, now what?

carolev - 2013-12-24 06:28:00
3041

morning :) Go on your holiday and forget him kuaka. Our son is 21 and would never ever speak/email to his granddad that way. You are right, he just want's a place to doss down so he can get on the pi** with his mates. Our boy goes out with his mates but stays at his mate's place. AND he can dam well come visit you on the bus (son had to bus home for Christmas seeing his motor bike was stolen and he couldn't believe how much he enjoyed the trip lol). Tell him to man up!

Daughter and her wee family are coming home today - soooo excited! The Furry One has been ignoring us since son has been home and even sleeping with him at night. Must admit, it's nice to be able to stretch out in bed lol.

Have one or two wee things to do then maybe some stitching.

Just in case I don't get back in here tomorrow, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and lovely day with family and friends.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-12-24 07:36:00
3042

Thanks kiwimade and carolev. I thought about it and decided it was the sort of thing my son might have done at that age, (no email messages of course in those days) he "might" have asked to go and stay at his grandmothers bach if she was going to be there, but he used to see his grandmother several times a week as we lived in the same city, but to have no contact for a year, and then suddenly want to visit - er, I don't think so.

Looks like being another hot day (it was 28 degrees yesterday when I went to the doctor) and we plan to start taking stuff out to the boat, diesel, gas bottle, kitty litter, some tinned and packet foods, maybe some clothes (we have some clothes on board but they've been there about 15 years, so a bit unfashionable and probably no longer fit ???) Think I'll call at the vet this morning (hope they are open) and get a tranquiliser for the cat, just in case she panics when we get her aboard. I'd hate her to jump over and swim ashore.

Have to sort through my knitting stash and decide what to take. Decisions, decisions.

Morning ...Im late lol But have been busy.

Kuaka Just tell the grandson that his grandfather isn't up to a group of drunk kids. And that youll get back to him when its more convenient. And that he is welcome to come alone..
Your brave going out today Carole.

Lol Kiwmade what a turncoat the Furry one is.. But maybe he will turn his back to your son in favour of your daughter tomorrow lol

SIL and I were out yesterday and got really cheap apricots so Ive make a big batch of Jam this morning.
SIl trimmed my hair for me, BIL had adjusted the hinges on the pantries I made and MrP has floated around trying to look busy .He had a huge shake this morning, and that wears him out. I don't know if its to do with the nerves in his spine, or if its fits, but he knows its happening and is always tried after them.

Incase I get busy and before we are all off doing things with family.

Have a wonderful Christmas... Ive really enjoyed our group. will be a year on Jan 1st since I started the thread.
Eat drink and be merry. Enjoy the family and hope you get spoilt.

I didn't do a stitch of knitting yesterday so will try today.

Take care

Just home from town - only went for a couple of things but gave up on one as it's not urgent and the people there are crazy lol
Kuaka - so I'm not the only one who seems to lose typing at times - happened several times now and not sure if it's because I get side tracked and take too long but so frustrating that I usually just give up for that day.
You are the boss so tell grandson he can fit in with you rather than the other way round - come at a time convenient for everyone.

OOh apricot jam Popeye - apricots are my most favourite fruit and I feel so spoiled being in Hawkes bay at this time of year as have access to really lovely and reasonable stone fruit for several weeks. Have been out to the orchard and got in a good supply for over Christmas also made up fruit baskets for neighbours.
Kiwimade having a baby to share Christmas is so extra special.

May you all have a very happy and blessed Christmas who ever you are with and what ever you are doing

Ohhh Yumm Jayemtoo. I used to only eat dried apricots, till mum moved in with us. And she got me hooked. But Ive always made apricot jam. Im not huge jam eater but love apricot and peach jam.

SIL is seriously thinking about getting a portable dvd player for their camper. And of course the specials all finish today. if she wants one Ill take her to Pukekohe... and thankfully Noel leemings is not in the main part of town.
Time will tell tho.

Merry Christmas everyone.
CArole, I wouldn't let anyone ruin my Christmas. I would try and do things for myself to enjoy, just to prove I will enjoy it in spite of them.

In our family we have more in heaven than here. Two fathers, Mum, my sister and eldest brother, and my sisters youngest son. But Im not going to feel sad, they are all together and we gotta keep living on this side.

ITS RAINING FINALLY.. !!!!! The ground badly needed it.

Waiting for the family to come in from the Camper. Then we will have breakie and open pressies.

Have a wonderfull day everyone

Merry Christmas
Oh the problems of getting older - yes less people here and more in Heaven. My Grandfather - in his 90s used to send letters which seemed to be a list of the funerals he had attended in the previous month!
Be positive and enjoy your day it may not be as you intended but can still be a relaxed and pleasant time. We had our Christmas early as family need to be out of town so I'm having a very quiet day but looking forward to doing my own "thing" and relaxing (might even do a bit of knitting - the better the day the better the deed lol)
