Hope it all goes well popeye. carolev - hmmm, that's a lot of money for a sewing machine, but I'd be very tempted. I love my old Elna ($495 back in the early 70s and fingers crossed, still purrs like a sewing machine - oh yes, that's what it is right?)

Have had a very busy couple of days, very busy at home yesterday and then today we went out to Kuaka (remember the old bitch wouldn't start) so today the auto-electrician spent quite a long time trying to find out why she wouldn't start, and it ended up being a dud battery. It's got two 12v batteries making it a 24v system, but one of the batteries, although it showed as being over 12v, when we tried to turn the motor over, it dropped right back to zero, in other words, it was knackered (a bit like me). So we swapped the batteries around and used the one which is only for the lights and radio, and we got the motor started, so now we need to buy a new battery - but the really good news is that we may have someone interested in buying her. Better still we were given some snapper for tea and a crayfish for tomorrow nights tea.

Hoping to get the 10 stitch baby blanket finished tonight so I can send it tomorrow to bfb and then I'll get back to my tunic.

morning ladies :) That's good news kuaka about a possible buyer for your boat and I bet that snapper was delicious! Omgggg crayfish.... sigh.... I miss fresh cray. MrK used to SCUBA dive and bring home crayfish - now I'm selling all of his gear :( as his health just isn't up to scratch.

Am glad you got MrP to hospital and he's as happy as he can be popeye. Nothing worse than a grumpy patient!

Today I'm going to attempt the kitchen ceiling again, never got it done the other day. Will bring the big ladder inside to make it easier on my arms and back. My list is getting smaller and it's a great feeling to cross things out as they get done. MrK wants to water blast two old doors we have so we can use them as tables for Christmas Day. Will use his workshop saw horses and make trestles. I have a huge table cloth my nana used and some decorations and voila! lol, a pretty Christmas table setting.

Should get some stitching done this afternoon, fell asleep on the couch yesterday so didn't get any done.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies..

Wow Kuaka glad to hear the good news about Kuaka. Ill casually mention to MrP about the snapper and crayfish. He was a very keen fisherman. but cannot do it now. But he wont get rid of his gear. Well he hasn't wanted to till now.
Things will change now tho. I called him last night. he had a full team of drs yesterday. They didn't really want to do the surgery. Hes too much of a risk. His lungs are stuffed, one of them told him his body was stuffed. Like we didn't know that, but its been confirmed. he signed a waver saying he was willing to take the risk. And with a DNR (do not ressuss).
I will ring late morning and see what has happened.
So if he comes through things will happen here. He needs to stop having reminders of things he cannot do for a start. it will make his moods better.

But fingers crossed all; will go well and he will prove them all wrong.

Did a little knitting last night. But enjoyed sitting and relaxing properly for a change.

just finished the ceiling down the hallway - couldn't leave it lol so my kitchen/dining room ceiling clean has been expanded. Having a wee breather before I start the kitchen. What I have done does look so much better though so worth the effort. That janola bleach gel works a treat.

Fingers and everything crossed for you and MrP popeye, if MrK can survive a massive full body infection and growth on his aorta, then MrP can get through this. Nerve wracking though and not recomended for the stress levels!

Wonder if it is too early for a cuppa...

I spoke to MrP just after 11am. still his chipper cheeky self. Was waiting still and hungry and thirsty lol... I said it will be worth it. He says bring coke with you lol.
It takes a heck of a lot to make me stress or worry. Im fine. I wasn't even worried when I had my heart surgery.
Ive deadheaded the roses. weeded the few weeds out of that. Washed the last two windows. Washed the cupboard doors and now Im happy everything is done. Just normal housework again for a wee while.
I haven't even turned the jug on lol. Unless its the middle of winter I don't drink hot drinks. So the jug is sitting there all forlorn and unloved lol

morning ladies :) Hope MrP had a good night last night popeye.
Tree cutting day today - well that's what we planned last night lol. Want to get it done before the day gets too hot.

Should get some stitching doenthis afternoon :)

Happy knitting :)

2959

Morning all.
Ended up going to get MrP last night. He recovered extremely well.

He can touch his face, his hair etc and no pain. Quite a big numb patch but that's way better than a big painfull patch.
Soo good to have him home, I keep tearing up with happiness that hes not suffering soo much now.
not good for you Carole, Im surprised they don't put a PIC line in then you can have long term antibiotics to knock that bug on the head.
Going grocery shopping this morning. hes going to tell everyone I gave him the black eye he has. Ill tell people he was getting a bit lippy so I let him have it lol.
Glad I got all my jobs done. Now its just a smooth ride into Christmas.
Have a wonderfull day everyone

Hope you are feeling better Carol and Mr P is doing ok with his stay in hospital.
Managing to get a bit done in the garden in between end-of-year busyness. Also just finished a knitting a small "granny;s favourite cardy and on to another puerperium as just heard that friend is having baby in Feb so like to have a few things on hand for new babies.
The new sewing machine sounds fantastic Carole - your Christmas present to yourself eh?

jayemtoo - 2013-12-12 08:28:00
2961

Yay MrPs cardiology appointment is on Monday. Talk about keeping him on his toes.
We will find out then if he needs a valve replacement.
Just hoping they wont do it before Christmas. Cos he hasn't seen his brother in a year. but we have to do what they want.

Cross all fingers lol

popeye333 - 2013-12-12 15:51:00
2962

morning girls. well I bet the birds up this morning, had to finish some orders, sat up it bed at 3am knitting coss I was coughing to much to sleep. hope Mr P is ok today.

2963

morning ladies :) We're going to finish that tree off today - got too hot for us in the end and only managed to get three quarters of it down.

Good news about MrP popeye, he's certainly on a roll hospital wise! has he had a valve replacement before?

Should (hopefully!) get some stitching done this afternoon :)

Happy knitting :)

2964

Morning.... Few grey clouds here and warm. but I don't think it will rain.

MrP is super-duper fantastic lol... Well his bruising is spreading and swelling a little under the eye. but I assume that is natural. Will keep an eye on it and if it gets worse Ill ring drs.
Wow Carole I couldn't survive on a muddled up sleeping pattern like you. you must be one tough cooky.
Glad the tree is nearly done Kiwimade. You will be pleased when its all done eh. Can it be used as firewood?
Noo MrP hasn't had a valve replaced before. I have. so we know what he will go through if he has to. Hes had several heart attacks but thankfully it hasn't damaged his heart too much.
I just hope they can do it in the new year. his brother isn't a well man either so its important they see each other.
Im going to knit today, Ive only got general housework now so its nice to be back to normal.
Have a good day everyone.

popeye I don't like waking up at night and feeling RS but that's life so when I do wake and can't get back to sleep I make the most of it, why wasit time

carolev - 2013-12-13 08:47:00
2966

exactly carole, I agree, why not knit and be productive :).

Sounds like MrP is doing well, that's awesome popeye.

Tree is down and a pittisporum is trimmed back hard (will probably kill it) so that is five and a half trees cut down. Will wait a few days before I burn the garden waste. The bigger branches and trunks have been cut into manageable logs for a friend's fire. Have them all stacked neatly against the fence so will back the car in and load up the boot in a few days time all ready to be delivered.

Time for an early lunch and then some stitching :).

happy knitting.

2967

Oh I agree, you might as well be doing something usefull. I used to knit till 1-2am in the morning when I was younger and single. id start listening to talk back radio and forget to stop listening lol.
Well done Kiwimade. Must feel like you have achieve heaps this year.
Im just under the 200 ridge mark on the last strip. So the end is getting closer.

Ive decided the best way to sew it together is to lay it all out and sew the edges. Then pin and work on interior rows. I will have to keep reminding myself it will be worth it in the end lol

popeye333 - 2013-12-13 12:25:00
2968

Tis getting a tad too warm to be knitting... . Ill be happy when this strip is done. And I can knit the jacket which wont be hanging all over my legs lol

morning ladies :) Yep, getting far too warm for knitting now soI've switched to sewing.

Suspect I'll be helping my sister paint her house today so bugger all stitching will get done. Oh well, have to make the most of fine weather and her annual leave.

Happy knitting :)

Morning all,
Good to hear that Mr P is doing ok.
What an effort Kiwimade in getting so much done in the garden - hope the end results will be great.
No never too hot to knit - years ago I thought that living in the tropics would be too hot for knitting so didn't take any with me and went into severe knitting withdrawal lol - luckily found some old needles and wool so able to keep on knitting so now make sure I have something on the go wherever I travel - must admit it wouldn't be a big blanket like you are doing Popeye. I tend to do small light things which are easily washed when finished to get rid of any sweat.
Happy house painting Kiwimade - that will be hotter than knitting!
have a good day everyone

2972

Morning all. Another hot day ahead.. and this silly woman is baking this morning lol... Ill sit the big fan on the bench behind me tho which will help.
A sponge, shortbread and a pav today. So none are high temps. Trouble is you stand right beside the oven when working.

yeah I don't think I could stop knitting all together in the summer, but having the blanket on my legs isn't great. Sitting on the bed to knit is easier cos the knitting can sit on the bed rather than me. Another couple of days and it should be done anyway.. fingers crossed.

Kiwimade I hope you have good sunscreen. Its the santa parade here today so there will be burnt kids around too.
Our lawn men still haven't turned up to do the gardening,,, but they are due to mow on Monday so maybe they will do it then.

How many shrugs have you made now Carole, the numbers must be getting up there now?

Right Im going to get into the kitchen before it gets too much hotter.
'
Might put Susan Boyles new CD on to inspire me

Have fun everyone

no painting for me today, but will be bright and early tomorrow. So, I'm swapping the kids bedrooms around so our daughter and her wee family can have the bigger room. OMG lol, I knew furniture was heavy but wow! Especially all this antique stuff... they certainly made furniture to last way back when! MrK has been helping but sometimes it is easier to do it with just one. When he hears me swearing he comes in to help lol. been meaning to do this for ages now but kept putting it off. Have done all the windows and washed the net curtains while I had the space to get in and do the job properly. The Furry One has been protecting me from the vacum as I work lol so makes for a good laugh.

I hope the effort in the garden is worth it too jayemtoo lol but it is certainly looking better than it did a month ago. Happy baking popeye, I'll be doing that next week now that all the 'heavier' work has been done around the house.

Might be too pooped to stitch this afternoon, will see how I go!

happy knitting :)

Lol Kiwimade at the heavy furniture. That's why Ive been getting rid of ours.
Fuuny enough was talking to a friend last night about tv cabinets etc. she has been told she can have ours if we pop off before her. but she best have a couple of young fir friends to move it cos its blardy heavy, even when empty.
It is often easier alone, but I only ask MrP if I really cant do it myself too.
Lol at the furry one trying to save you. bobcat used to love the Kirby vac, but doesn't like the new one lol
50 shortbread bikkies, a sponge and the pav is due to be turned off at 12-30. Its huge lol... Will be sending some home with my friend tomorrow cos we don't need to eat it all
Im pooped but not in pain cos I took pills before I started lol.
Washing looks dry.
Will sit and knit this afternoon.

Deramores have sent me the "We Miss You" email with 15% off lol. Wont be buying anything at the mo tho. Too many trips to make with hospitals etc.
MrP's eye has settled down a lot overnight night. not so much swelling and the bruising is getting lighter.
Hes like a new man.

Have a good afternoon

Hi Ladies, havn't posted for a while.
If anyone is a friend on facebook then you would have seen my post about having my wallet uplifted from my handbag at the mall 2 thursday ago.
Have been spending all this time sorting out the cancelation of bank cards and having them reissued. Then because all our bills are direct debited on our visa cards, when the new ones finally arrived i had to ring all the businesses that we deal with and give them the new card numbers, until then i had NO MONEY AT ALL, to do any christmas shoppong or buy groceries, or petrol for the car. mrwhiskey gave me cash from his personal account to tie me over (but no wallet to put it in lol)
re doing my drivers licence was a hassel too. They wouldnt accept my birth certificate. Too old and tattered. (the certificate not me lol) so had to spend $26 getting new one then go back to AA and spend $38 for the licence.
Am worn out and grumpy. The only thing in the wallet i want back is the only photo i had of mum. But my sister read the facebook post and told Dad, when i got to his place for my weekly visit, he had an identical one to replace it.
I've asked santa for a new wallet. And i wanna be driving the Karma bus.

Sorry to hear that whiskey, glad you got a new photo. I've done nothing lately with crafts. Last week was traveling to the South Island for a funeral and this week cooking for 26, so no christmas presents made or brought may have to do that when we travel back down on Wednesday

HI Whiskey yes I read about your Wallet being stolen. Can I be a passenger in that Karma Bus.
To them its a quick payday. They don't give a dam about the work it puts people through to replace things eh.
Im glad you have a replacement picture. And I hope Santa brings you a nice wallet.
Have just had our Hogget delivered. Its a good amount of meat. So long as it tastes good we will get a whole one next year. My friend will come and get her half later today cos the freezers are jam packed.
Have about 50 ridges left to go I think so Im getting there slowly but surely

popeye333 - 2013-12-14 16:02:00

I been sewing and knitting all day plus had grand daughter then tonight Mr T and I went shopping. spent the money I have made sewing

morning ladies! ooohhhh carole, did you buy your sewing machine?

Dammmmm whiskey, I would be sooo pi**** off too. Am glad you were able to get another pic but omg what a hassle and expense you don't need at Christmas time (or anytime for that matter).

All organised to go and help my sister paint her house today. Body is a tad achy from all the heavy work I've been doing over the last few weeks but it's a 'good' ache if you know what I mean.

So that means no stitching for me today, I'll be knackered by the time I get home.

happy knitting :)

Ohhh Carole dooo tell us if you got the machine. lol

Have fun at your sisters today Kiwimade.. Plenty of sunscreen and fluids.

Have to nip up the road shortly then cooking Christmas lunch for a friend.

Will totally throw the eating pattern out having a hot big lunch. Roast chicken and tattys salad. And pav and strawberries if she remembers to get some.
Have 33 ridges to go on my blanket so will be finished tonight maybe or tomorrow while we wait for MrPs cardiology appointment.
Have a lovely day everyone

I guess it is truly nearly Christmas now that I have been able to use all my nice dishes etc. She commented on the table clothes, asked if it was new. I said no its probably 12-13yrs old but its only used at Christmas lol.

Hiya ladies.
We had John's work do last night, and we had to pre order our meals. We both had steak, medium rare. We always cut off the fat and save it for the dog. A few people noticed me wrapping up the meat and gave me their's as well.
Puppy dog got very spoilt when we got home.

Lol Whiskey, spoilt puppy but good on you

Bob very seldom asks for food at the table cos its not something I encourage. but he had a good helping of chicken.

Remember having porterhouse steak at a restaurant years ago with a friend. The waiter asked me how I wanted it.
I said tell the chef to absolutely murder it, and it will be perfect for me.. And it was. I like mine more than well done lol

morning ladies, we are off to Kerikeri today to renew Mr Ks driving licence (it's his birthday today, and he now has to renew every two years and get a medical certificate - which he got last week thankfully otherwise I'd be driving everywhere and he would be driving me round the bend, telling me how to drive all the time). I'm hoping he will drive and I can knit on the way, I've been busy working on my tunic again and almost half way up one side of the neck shaping on the front, so the end is getting closer, have also done a pair of fingerless gloves to go with it (have to sew the seams on them) and have started another pair to sell next winter (possum/merino in black).

Busy yesterday, mowed two of the lawns and then blower-vacced the driveway yet again, it's a weekly chore at the moment, I think the old totara is suffering from the continued dry spell - either that or it is actually dying - yippee if it is! Did some more deck staining the other day and used up what was left in the tin, and thought "well I can have a break now, no more staining until we go and buy some more" but yesterday I found a 5 litre tin of the stuff which we bought last summer and had forgotten about so I'll have to get cracking again with the waterblaster and then do some more staining. It's hot work but it looks great when it's done.

Well ladies, have a lovely day everyone. Happy knitting.

morning ladies :) Another beautiful day on the way! Got a days worth of painting in yesterday and my wrist knows I've been painting lol. Will be fine, just not used to having the paintbrush back in my hand.

baking today, maybe, will see how I go. On a roll with my stitching so want to get some done today. About two thirds of the way done on the first quarter of the picture. Considering there is lotttssss of quarter stitches, I think I'm doing OK.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-12-16 07:30:00
2989

Morning everyone... A lot of early birds today lol.
I know what you mean Kuaka re being told how to drive. MrP moans a lot but I think its cos his eyes are bad and he judges distance wrongly. but he has no option cos he's not allowed to drive now. If he has a shake he could run into someone or something. Self imposed but the Dr agreed it was a wise idea.
Ouchies re the painting wrist. Kiwimade. Im sure it will ease. Is there much to do?
I have Finished Knitting the Blanket YAYAYAYAY.. about 9-15pm last night. Im not going to look at sewing it up till near the end of summer. It will just be too hot to have a double thickness blanket on my legs.
I will start a red version of that pattern you sent me Kiwimade. And take that to MrP's cardio appointment today.
I have a filthy cat at the mo. He's been under a car, which he used to do all the time when young. So he has a black slick down his back. And four filthy paws, been in a dusty garden lol.

Have a good day everyone.. Be careful on the roads and in the sun.

morning ladies late onto net as I was sewing started at 5.30 got lots of orders to do, any one want to swap bladders. mine is stuffed leaks all the time, woke at 1.30 could not sleep so knitted till 3am . having my pc time then back to sewing, have a nice day and all keep well

carolev - 2013-12-16 07:54:00
2991

there is tons to do popeye but we will pick away at it. We're not doing the roof (will get someone in to do that) as none of us are brave enough to climb onto it. It's still a major job though.

Got some stitching done this morning, decided to heck with it, I'm going to sit and sew lol. Lawns still need mowing and the tree we cut down needs burning but it is just too hot to be outside. At least painting we could follow the shade.

I don't know how you manage on so little sleep carole, I would be a wreck by now!

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2013-12-16 11:34:00
2992

kiwimade, I'm still planning on doing the roof, but I haven't finished prepping it yet, and now of course, it's too hot. I don't mind being up on the roof where the deck is at the side and it is "normal" height, but on the other side of the house, where it is virtually three stories, then I will only get so far down from the peak/ridge line and then I'm too chicken unless I'm tied on. I won't attempt to paint the barge boards and the soffits will have to be done from a very tall ladder on the high side, and I'm not game enough to do that.

Got back from Keri before 11am, the thermometer on the waterfront as we drove back into Paihia said 29 degrees, and it was even hotter in Keri as there was no seabreeze.

Too hot to do any gardening, but this afternoon I'm making meringues and choc eclairs to take for sweets for a shared lunch tomorrow. I'd better get to it.

kuaka - 2013-12-16 13:12:00
2993

Its a scorcher out there.. And today of all days the seal on the sunroof decided to come lose. so we couldn't have that open.
So I was on and off with the aircon in the car.

Good news, while MrPs aortic valve has got mild stenosis, (crap blocking them) the cardiologist doesn't think he needs a valve op just yet.
And he also doesn't think he will have any trouble with anaesthetic , to have his hernia repaired.
MrP wasn't too happy when I agreed with the dr that I didn't think he would physically handle heart surgery. So he was a bit grumpy when we came out. Topped with a lot of walking. But hes ok now.
So next year he will have the hernia repaired and also be seen by the respiratory team.
The Tar is like puddles on the roads.
Took my knitting for a ride lol. Only time I knitted was when we were waiting to have a chest xray, I did some on their charity blanket.
Was horrible hard wool, all different thicknesses and on a size 7 and 8 needle lol. They get people to knit strips while waiting. then they are sewn together and shipped overseas. I pity the sewers lol.
I did a fair bit on the front of my jacket before we left tho.

Right am going to rest here a little then he wants pork chops for tea. Im going to have a sandwhich lol

popeye333 - 2013-12-16 15:58:00
2994

oh I never fancy pork when the weather is hot. I grew up in the UK with the old adage "never eat pork unless there is an R in the month", so May, June, July, August were always pork-free as it was too warm. So here I basically reverse that theory. When it's warm, no pork - having said that, we're having ham for tea! It's the Christmas ham but I thought we'd crack it open early so I can have an easy tea for grumps' birthday, but I've just looked and he's asleep in the chair. Oh well, maybe he started celebrating a bit too early.

I've got meringues in the oven, hopefully "drying out" rather than cooking, and then I suppose I should make the choc eclairs when the meringues are finished, but it doesn't seem such a good idea now as it did when I decided to do them. Maybe I'll just make do with the meringues and a coffee cake which I bought on Saturday (which has a best before date sometime next year - so should be okay).

kuaka - 2013-12-16 16:13:00

Ive never heard of that Kuaka. Does pork go off faster than other meats? An perhaps go back to the days before Fridges and freezers?

I made a pav on Saturday and theres still some in the fridge. Im thinking I might cut the recipe in half for Christmas day cos we don't really need to be eating it. I hate wasting food but I think Ill be binning the left over in favour of the lovely fresh fruit we got today
SIL rang before shes bring some lovely home grown fresh eggs so that will be good.
Managed to get some over ripe bananas today so have put them in the freezer to make this new ice cream. Only has bananas, peanut butter and cocoa in it. Whizz if up from frozen. Eat straight away as moose or refreeze as ice cream.. no added sugar .Yay. Its an Anabel Langbine (sp) recipe

yes popeye, I think pork (and probably chicken) is more susceptible to going off than beef - although lamb can be a bit dodgy too, so probably best to stick to beef and fish - although fish goes off pretty quick - maybe there is something to be said for being vegetarian! And I suspect it goes back to the days before refrigeration, but having said that, it's a very old saying and one which isn't to be ignored if you don't like having an upset tummy.

I've not heard about the banana/peanut butter ice cream - sounds interesting. Fresh eggs are lovely but I think for pavs eggs are best to be a few days old as really fresh ones don't whisk so well apparently. Anyway not long to wait till the jolly fat man arrives.

Time for me to put my feet up, we've been celebrating Mr Ks birthday. He had a phone call from his daughter in Australia then a young friend visited and while he was here the daughter in Auckland phoned, Mr K said "hang on, my friend is leaving, I'll come back to you in a minute" and put the phone on the table, so I went to see the friend off. Came back, Mr K is stretched out in his chair, phone on the table beside him, daughter still hanging on waiting, and Mr K has forgotten all about her. Oops!

morning ladies! omg carole, lol, you poor thing.

Am about to go out and mow the lawn, yep, I know it's early but we are in the country and our nieghbours across the road will be off to work soon anyway so I know they are up. Big rain clouds coming over so I want to get it done before it gets too hot again. Besides, our lovely nieghbour has mowed our frontage on his rideon so I want to get it all done and looking the same. Anal, I know lol.

Shopping for me, only a couple more things to get and Christmas shopping is done and dusted and maybe some stitching this afternoon.

Have taken my antihistime and some panadol for my wrist (dammm it hurts!) so should be good to go shortly. Kuaka, you are much braver than me, there is no way I would climb onto the roof. I am happy to climb a ladder though, but that's as high as I go.

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. Im the slow one this morning. Bit achy from the walking on concrete too much yesterday. So a little creaky.

Lol Kuaka, I think your right vegetarian could be the safest, but Id be crying our for fresh meat in a week lol.
The eggs will be about 5 days at least by the time they get here. But Ill use up the shop ones anyway. Wont waste lovely fresh one in a pav.

Carole can you take anything to promote sleep.. Sleep easy is a natural one I think. otherwise something from the dr. Id be an absolute mess with your sleeping hours.
Kiwimade, that's not being Anal. I wish our little corner would get co-ordinated with the lawns too. Makes things look much nicer. Ours was done yesterday. Gardens will be done this morning .
Have to go get sugar... I knew Id be cutting it fine this week but I left it cos I knew it was on special this week.

Has anyone ever heard of a person sprinkling sugar on their salad? My friend made her salad on her plate then sprinkled sugar on it.Was basically lettuce cheese carrot and dressing. Ive never seen that before. I know my grandmother used to put sugar on tomatoes.

I hope Im getting this jacket right. You had to decrease on the side edge while you increased to do the curved edge on the front, but now Im increasing on the side edge. Im not sure I have that right. Time will tell.

Have a good day everyone

I have tried that Sleep Easy as well as other herbel sleep medication and nothing worked.I even bought those Tart Cherry capsules at $57 (ouch) but no luck. The doctor wont give me anything. I don't want to go on sleeping tablets forvever- just to get my body into a pattern. I guess I just have to put up with the approx. 4hrs sleep I get each night.
Finished my xmas shopping this morning. It is a good feeling. Just got to do the wrapping now.
Lovely sunny day here. Have a good day everyone.
