Hi kiwileprechaun. Is there any way you can make this thread a sticky, like the one you already have? I use both threads often. There is always some other useful information in either of them for budding searchers. :)

I've found newspaper articles relating to long gone ancestors back in England. Very exciting searching the site.

Ok to use (not as straight forward as Paperspast though) and is a Pay-as-you-go site.

There are a number of websites that provide digitised US newspapers but quite a few require pay-as-you-go or subscriptions. However the Library of Congress has made a significant number of newspapers available free online on the Chronicling America website:

Other collections of US digitised newspapers:

California:

Utah:

If you are trying to find newspapers, this website has a collection of links to different sites:

A couple of other search engines you might like to try:

https://duckduckgo.com/

https://millionshort.com/

Be warned - millionshort can be a bit buggy, but when it works it is great. You can opt to exclude the first 100, 1000, 10000 or even 1,000,000 results so it gets you to the harder to find sites quicker.

A unique pictorial record of over 30,000 people who lived on Jersey during the Nazi occupation has gone online.

The collection of German Occupation registration cards, recognised by UNESCO for its importance, has been digitised and added to the Jersey Heritage website by Jersey Archive. The collection includes 90,000 images that can be searched for free, although there is a fee of £5 to download a card. Researchers with Jersey family may wish to take out an annual subscription for £30 to make the most of other resources, including thousands of historic photographs, many with named individuals.

They had a census in Dundee which you will find here. If you know the name of the head of the household you might find their address. It worked for me!

From marymc:

Have to register, but free.

HHARP provides access to 120,000 admission records to four children’s hospitals: three in London, the Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Evelina and the Alexandra Hip Hospital for Children, and one from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow. Between them the databases cover a period from 1852 to 1913. Medical historians and demographers will find HHARP an invaluable tool in the study of the early development of paediatric medicine. Family historians and local historians will find a treasure trove of information on Victorian families and healthcare in Victorian and Edwardian London and Glasgow.
